FIRE TO ASHES

Galahad resembles his paternal lines. His coat is a pale gold, changing with the seasons to be near creamy white in the winter, to the richest gold in summer. Yet it is tainted, like the edges of an old coin, and around its edges is marked by darker shades of rust. They dip to their darkest around his knees, reaching a burnt umber before staining his lower legs. His hooves though remain a pure, dipped in a cream the cloven feet hold him steady. Across the gold body lies more of his father’s influence. White shoulder and hip bars cross his back, but his mother leaves her impression, and from their sharp blades, dot several tears of white. His knees bare the same treatment, with several white bars crossing around them. The largest tie to his father’s blood though, is the leafen star on his forehead. Shaped and sized like his sire, it then has from each tine several drops of white. And though he had his father’s markings (even horns as they rise in the gentle s curve, painted white), he had his mother’s eyes. Strikingly sea blue, and like the sun over the water, cut through with white in the center. The final touch is his crisp white mane, brighter than his father’s, and full tail. Though still short due to his age, it will grow long. Never enjoying its length, even young, he keeps most of it braided, to tuck it away.
The last marking the one he is most burdened by. On his shoulders, starting dark brown near his chest this flaring to the flame, are a pair of wings with three feathers. Neither a seasonal change in his coat nor every effort on his part to rid himself of them seem to hide their brilliance.

AND ASHES TO FIRE

In the form a phoenix Galahad is not much different. The proud bird stands several feet high, and has a wing span of six to eight feet as he grows. Unlike a traditional phoenix, his feathers are each dipped in gold. Only the ones on his tail, several of especial length (narrow and flared at the end like a peacock’s) seem to fade to a dark red, though their cores are still bright iridescent gold. All is gold, except for his eyes, where the white cores of his unicorn form have grown to be solid white.
