PERSONALITY

Larkspur is a complex, vivacious mix between the spit fire fierceness of a warrior and a brooding, pensive soul who acts too old for her years. She is ambitious in all definitions of the word, and driven by her determination and independence. She enjoys a challenge, and despite her cynical attitude she romanticizes the valiant, heroic idea behind war and battle, because of her father. She doesn't believe she should have to rely on anyone else to take care of her, and she won’t hesitate to tell you. She is calculating and shrewd, her childhood teaching her diligence and meticulousness at an early age. She sometimes has a biting sense of humor that can come off as cold and unempathetic, not to mention sarcasm and acerbity are second nature to her, sometimes making her company undesirable. She seems not to speak too much, though amongst friends she loses some of her acidity and removes some of the walls she generally has built around herself. She is quick to judge, and very often pretentious and arrogant of herself as well as the rest of the Unicorn race. She walks a thin line between the self-inflicted guilt of her past, and her yearning to leave it behind, spending more time being miserable over it than anything else. However, despite her short comings and sometimes selfish pride, she really does have a good heart. She just chooses not to show it.

LINEAGE

Sire: Kys, a black unicorn stallion from whom Larkspur inherits her brindled, black and white horn. Aside from his horn, there was not a single marking on him. Kys was part of the royal guard of the herd Larkspur was born into, serving under the reigning king and queen. Despite his dedication to being a creature of battle, he was a kind soul with an equally benevolant heart to match it.

Dam: Shatter was a pale, sky blue mare, with a mane the color of ivory, highlighted with various streaks of pale blue to match. She had four white stockings, and a star, stripe and snip. Shatter was a quiet, meek mannered mare who devoted her time to her children and her mate. She was knowledgeable in the ways of healing and storytelling. She also has the same gold eyes as Larkspur.

HISTORY

Larkspur had a relatively normal childhood. She was born into a herd that was one of four surrounding kingdoms. Her parents were highly regarded by the reigning king and queen, as her sire served under the royal guard. From an early age Larkspur was eager to follow in her father’s footsteps, despite her mother’s gentle attempts at directing her attention in another direction. While Shatter loved her mate, she did not approve of the direction Kys gave Larkspur, encouraging her wild ideas of a grandeur life as a warrior. Shatter was also a deviant of their society’s general views; she disapproved of the common cultural practice of enslaving equines, and was against the violent tactics the four kingdoms employed against the Pegasus clans that lived in the Northern Mountains of their land. Kys loved her for her kind nature and gentle ways, but Larkspur saw only weakness and frailty. It estranged the mother-daughter pair early on, and their relationship would remain that way until Larkspur left.

When a civil war broke out amongst the equine masses, aided by Pegasus incendiaries that had snuck out of the mountains to form an alliance with the enslaved population, violence broke out in all corners of the kingdoms. Larkspur was denied a chance to fight in the worst of the battles by her father’s orders, for Kys wished to protect her from what would ultimately be the death of many, including himself. Upon finding his body, broken and bloodied amongst what seemed like an endless mass of bodies, Larkspur fled. She was unable to face her mother and the ridicule Larkspur imagined she would unleash. Her father had been the beacon of her reason and the cornerstone of her faith; with him gone a gaping hole was left in his place, leaving her uncertain of the future, the world, and her purpose for existing. Guilt consumes her at her act of cowardice, and it has turned her into a brooding, mirthless individual, to prideful to admit to any faults or flaws, afraid of what outcome such a confession might produce.

Helovia is where her new adventure begins.

Birdsong: Year Two.

Like slow-spinning redemption: Larkspur meets the arrogant and aggrivating Déodat .
Shooting the moon: Lena and Larkspur converse beneath the starry skies of the Basin; the beginnings of a friendship.
A quiet mind: After traveling to the Endless Blue, Larkspur encounters Romani, a soldier from the Foothills. Losing control of her temper, she challenges her to a spar.
Keep coming back to the scene of the crime: Larkspur happens upon the mysterious and alluring Basin solider, Chiron.
Be as great in act, as you have been in thought: Larkspur accompanies Lena, Faelene, and Déodat to the Dragon's Throat to recover stolen Basin herd mates.

Disintegrating, from all the medicine: After being swallowed by the Time God's mirror, Larkspur returns to the Aurora Basin and the land of the living.
