**It is physiologically possible for this magic to occur over a short period of time, if it is a concern. Horses store MOUNTAINS of extra red blood cells and platelets in their spleen. When they lose large amounts of blood (or in this case, have many red blood cells burst) the spleen severely contracts and releases the stored red blood cells into the veins.
