Strings of friendship stretched too far - Ophelia - 01-02-2015
RE: Strings of friendship stretched too far - Gaucho - 01-02-2015 GAUCHO And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good Ophelia wouldn't have to wait long. Given the recent encounter with Thranduil lurking so far inside his borders, Gaucho had increased patrol and security as of late. If only he could have known just how long the golden trickster had remained in his borders he might have gone out and recruited more muscle himself. Then again, if he knew that much about Thranduil he might also know that he was one of the Basin's top assets. In which case the conversation that was about to follow might not be quite so pleasant.
Gaucho moved steadily towards Ophelia, steadily declining through the air. His movements were not charged by anger or a need to demonstrate his power. There was no flurry of feathers as he landed, no spray of sand. His large bulk landed with a relative grace upon the sands, disturbing them very little. Flame soaked wings hugged against his dark flanks as he moved towards Ophelia. Gaucho's stormy gaze found the place where her shadow fell, and rose a few feet up (awkwardly staring directly at her chest). Through Mara's vision he saw that her coat was no longer the colour of freshly fallen snow, but was marred by injury and old blood. She had been busy it seemed. Mara's steely face poked through Gaucho's forelock, black eyes scanning for the frost snake. Whatever truce held between the two did not concern the two serpents as far as Mara was concerned. "Ophelia." He greeted, his voice holding at bay the anger that welled up within his chest. He had been notified of the failed attempt on Tandavi almost immediately. It rang a fury within his chest, given that he had just returned from his talk with Ophelia - the pain of having carried Phaedra all the way back still aching across his spine. How Gaucho was no an idiot. For the culprit to have traveled all the way from the Basin to the Throat meant they would have left nearly at the same time as Ophelia had. The order couldn't have come from her - or at least, not after their talk unless the red-tipped queen had more tricks up her sleeve. Gaucho's eyes rose (with a prompt from Mara) to more or less were Ophelia's gaze might have been. "Truce short." He offered in jest, his voice hinting at amusement as his dark lips twitched. He couldn't see her expression, although he hoped to avoid another verbal confrontation with her by keeping things light. He could easily crush her body ... but her mind would forever be an insurmountable opponent. "Your spy try to steal my new Sultana." His voice grew more and more stern throughout the sentence. Would Ophelia's vast and brilliant mind put the pieces together? His love for Sohalia? Did Ophelia know of Soh's disappearance? Well, if she didn't perhaps she would assume it now. Either that or the two had had a falling out. Whatever assumption she drew Gaucho hoped she would not press it. He wasn't in the mood to discuss his personal life at the moment - Rasta and Tandavi had pulled on his heartstrings enough for the rest of the year. "But fail." He concluded, forcing his voice to ignore the tension he felt in his breath at thoughts of Sohalia. "Gaucho assume order not come from you...Gaucho going to come North to see you about it." I was going to come North like you said. He seemed to imply, I am trying to fulfill my end of this. Table style by Tamme! RE: Strings of friendship stretched too far - Gaucho - 01-04-2015 GAUCHO And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good Gaucho's lips almost peeled back in a hearty laugh as the first words out of Ophelia's mouth were an apology. He had thought that the mare was incapable of such things. His picture of Ophelia was now a big question mark. When they had sparred she had seemed ... formidable to a point. She didn't push up against the barriers of his strength though few did. Still she had stood her ground, and as a result the battle had come down to their companions: an arena in which he lost. Now she tells him she answered a challenge against her? Her body certainly showed the signs of it. It must have been quite the ordeal. If he knew that in fact she had fought two fights recently he would have understood the markings on her body even more, although remained just as impressed, if not a little turned on.
So who was Ophelia? Cunning? Manipulative? Kind? Generous? Clever or naive of her own faults? Strong? Or boldly stupid? Beautiful? Or deserving of death? He had no idea anymore. As she described Confutatis the Wildfire did laugh. He had met the mare before. She had been crazy yes, but also a coward. "Gaucho surprise she even fight. Gaucho spar her before. She run away after first attack." Had she drooled then? He probably would have remembered if she did but nothing was coming to him. She had thought herself so powerful, and yet she crumbled immediately. The facades of the mind do not fortify the body. "Thank you." He offered on both accounts. When was the last time information had been shared so easily between the two herds? Was he obligated to share information with Ophelia? "Gaucho speak with Sun God. Soon there will be explosion -" He advised, blind gaze glittering darkly as his minds eye pictured what he imagined would come. "-If you hear it or see it, not worry. Land bridge will be gone-" He continued, motioning to the patch of land that Ophelia had just come from. "Too many just wander in. Now we force them to wait." Unless they had wings of course, but the thought never even occurred to Gaucho. His own kind had never showed aggression to the Throat. Sometimes racism could seem so justified. However the lingering image of Thranduil so far inside of the Throat (and unknowingly for so long), but Gaucho's skin itch. It was unacceptable. This was a way to stop that from happening. "Magic bridge go there instead." He concluded, wanting to cut off the stream of questions he had already heard from his herd: What about those who can't fly? He snorted as she mentioned the Academy, wincing at the implications of why it had begun. "Soh and one of Gaucho's sons go to collect materials. Things we not have in Helovia. To educate. Tandavi want to teach too. Maybe she continue project until Soh returns." But would Soh return? If she didn't would that justify his having moved on? (Was that even what it was? What had happened between He and Ampere? That was moving on ?) "Gaucho give no orders against Basin. If we angry, Gaucho will come North. Will tell you. A small party went North few days ago - we have lots of metal here. They offer to trade with your crafters." It was actually fairly historic when you thought about it. When was the last time the leaders of the Throat and the Basin had spoken so frequently? When was the last time any trading occurred between them? Gaucho only hoped they came home without injury. Things were going so well, after all. It would be a pity to see it crumble so soon. Table style by Tamme! Image Credits RE: Strings of friendship stretched too far - Ophelia - 01-04-2015
RE: Strings of friendship stretched too far - Gaucho - 01-06-2015 GAUCHO And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good Gaucho visibly snarled as she mentioned that Confutatis had been pregnant at the time. To risk injury to unborn souls was a crime that no amount of retribution could erase. Would could have been so important to the dribbling coward of a mare as to risk what grew within her? "Fool." Gaucho agreed before falling silent on the matter.
As she mentioned their sentinals Gaucho merely nodded. A more apt creature might have made some small comment about how the Throat's strategy was defensive while the Basin's was offensive. Perhaps they might have discussed it were Gaucho's gaze not immediately take in by the sea. "Yes. Current will be very strong here. What grows and lives on Island will grow and live in abundance." Fire flared from his wings at the thought of it all. "Some will have to be moderated." He concluded with a grin, as if looking forward to using his magic to eradicate rampant growth. Then again, it was fairly desert like. A lack of water was something they were used to - so unless torrential rains began to fall and lushness fall upon them - he assumed they would stay more or less as they always had. "I will. He agreed, wondering what, if any, the relation between Tandavi and Ophelia was. "I am too." The Wildfire nodded in agreement. Good terms. All it had taken was the two speaking to dissolve the tension. It was ... nothing short of a miracle in Gaucho's mind. Then again, the dun was always under the impression that the Basin didn't want to hear anything from the Throat. Gaucho was finding himself wrong on more accounts that he cared to admit. As Ophelia mentioned that he could have those from the Basin who disobeyed their treaty, he laughed heartily. Perhaps the two were not so different. Gaucho understood that orders would not always be followed, but at least Ophelia understood that those who would disobey would be deserving of punishment." Gaucho nodded his antlered crown to the pale queen. Regardless of how this tentative alliance held between the two, the Wildfire was looking forward to seeing more of her. Perhaps it would give him the chance to figure her out. "Safe travels." He concluded, taking a step backwards and turning to walk back into the heart of the Throat. He would not watch her leave - she was not some child or trespasser who needed to be escorted out. He did not need assurances that she had indeed gone. Then again, through Mara's eyes he could still watch her even as he moved away. Table style by Tamme! Image Credits |
