Shadows of friends past and present - Official - 06-09-2012 Mirage April 11th, 2012 at 12:53am What a peculiar place. It makes my scales crawl. Too much death. With wonder a black figurine wanders through the misty lands. The trail she chooses is picked carefully, both her eyes and her bonded’s going over each step before the hoof meets the unstable loam. Sometimes a step would be taken and then retracted, but Mirage was a patient mare, and held a silent determination that allowed her to traverse even these difficult conditions. She did not walk meekly and shyly, but rather strode forth with her nape arched, and while he steps were only slowed by testing the ground for its stability, they were taken with a purpose. What purpose that was exactly, was unknown, even to her. Being a nomad, the mare and her dragon often adapted to the different lands they were presented with, and walked through them as if they owned the – though truly they were under no such illusions. They knew their place amongst the world, and it was with each other, under no-one’s rules or morals but their own. Being devious in nature meant that she never had to answer to anyone for her actions, though they were rarely immoral actions anyway. It was more based on principle, she should not have to answer to anyone besides her dragon anyway. Even those she called friends were given information about her because she simply deemed them trustworthy enough. But then, only Akaith knew everything about her – just as she knew everything about Akaith. The golden queen flew slowly nearby, often helping the mare carve her path through the marshes. Vaguely she remembered a similar place, though infinitely different at the same time, at Isilme. Where they had met the pale steed Gunslinger, sadly Mirage reflected upon what might have happened to him. I do not remember seeing him nor his young bronze fleeing the lands. The mare stated softly through their special link. Akaith chirped quietly her response – many had been lost at that time of turmoil, dragon and equine alike. They had both wept and felt sorry for the ones who were lost, but did not dwell on such things for longer than was reasonable. It was not healthy to remain clouded by despair. On must move on some day. Besides, it was not like Mirage would be missed by many. Indeed, it wasn’t often that she even leant her name to the ears of others. Perhaps to those who were gracious enough to earn her name would remember her if she were to disappear. Where you go I go. Akaith stoutly declared. It was a conversation they had shared before, and the mare smiled as she reassured her beloved that indeed, if either of them were to ever fall, the other would surely follow. Never could we be alone, my dear queen. Even when between, we would always have each other. Akaith needed no explanation as to what between meant. It was neither here nor there. The mare reflected on those familiar scents that now drifted through the lands of Helovia. Familiarity was something that usually took her longer than a mere season to gain, and yet, she had managed to make some acquaintances during her time here. The old smells of Isilme were fading, though it had been a number of years since Mirage had set foot upon the place, Isilme was a land she would not forget, for many reasons. It’s scent drug up many memories, and feelings of nostalgia washed over her as she recalled many great meetings with those who were bonded, many great tricks and conversations had. Though like here, when in Isilme, she was but a wanderer, she had made some friendships that she knew were long gone distant memories. Those related to the mare by blood were held in a different regard altogether. Years could pass, and did pass, between their meetings, but their feelings never changed, and it was always with joy that they would embrace each other once more. The scents of her brothers were nearby to the lands of Helovia, and the mare inwardly rejoiced at their arriving here. Certainly some fun to be had with those ruffians in town. She laughed with Akaith, the queen sharing in her delight, for they were her brothers too. Finally, Mirage found a space several strides in width and length that was solid enough to rest upon. She did not lie down, but rather stood, her golden gaze peering out across the eerie marshes, the thoughts slowly churning in their minds. Akaith settled upon the loam nearby, and there they were, two statuesque figurines, one bathed in darkness, one in gold. [ ooc : Gossamer this is for you! But I don’t mind if others want to come along too :) ] Vikram April 11th, 2012 at 9:07am There was a shadow trailing along in the wake of the black mare, but not one of the ordinary kind. Indeed, it was not even of the regular sort of unusual kind. A massive stallion tailed her, at first mistakable for a simple pegasus when viewed through the mist, but then one would notice the heavy scales on his breast or the long tail that swayed gently in the air behind him. It was Vikram, dragonson and one of the few companions Mirage had gathered to herself. Though he himself chose primarily to follow her because of her dragon. But it was no easy task, this following, between her peculiar magic and the terrain she chose to travel over. His greater size meant he had to take greater care amongst trees to not get caught up in their branches, and here. Here he was wary of the soft mud and brakish water and all they might conceal, and so walked his head bowed to chest level to keep an eye out for roots and sunken branches that might trip him up while doing his best to walk where she had. It was tempting to take to the air instead, but flight at her pace was something difficult for him to maintain, not to mention she might evoke her magic and elude him altogether for a time. No, it was easier to follow her scent and the sight of the lovely little gold who kept her company. It was in outward silence that she walked along, and so he gladly kept that silence, even when her eventual pause led to an opportunity for him to join her. Muzzle angled toward her soft flank as he moved up beside her, but he did not touch her uninvited, merely allowed his warmth breath to cross that space instead while his own golden gaze lingered for a moment on mare and dragon before roaming over the distant horizon. Absently he wondered if she waited for someone, or something, or merely stood and watched for the sake of it. Either way, he was content to keep this pair company. Gossamer the Benevolent April 12th, 2012 at 8:21pm Through the reeds and seedy stagnant waters weaves a pearlescent mare who is perceived by the mutated things which swim amongst the squelching reefs. She moves slowly, but with grace. Once, as a young mare just barely of age, she had been somewhere like here, but her mind couldn't quite place that thought for she knew it had not been this....dark. Gossamer was quite in the here and now, never getting much time to be free of the tight stays which leadership kept her in. Only on rare days like today, when another lead was in the herdland for the day could she venture freely and was not forced to stay on the path of herdland to threshold and back. On these days her mind often wandered back to times past and she contemplated what had happened to all her old friends, to her son Crane, to many others. She fully intended to merely pass through the landscape. Every few steps, something would stir within the depths of the small ponds and make unsettling splashes, setting off various worrisome thoughts from both her mind and that of her companion, Lazulli."This place stinks, I don't like it in the least.", Lazulli sent her. While her dragon stared at these waters with clear distaste from her back, Gossamer looked at what floated within them and was startled. There were horses in some, dozens and dozens, and it looked like a gruesome burial site for the masses. The place was filled with so much death and sadness that she couldn't help but be jumpy at the though of what must have occurred here in the past. That was the problem, she found, with all herds: they liked to war. Not hers, no, she was determined to build an empire of intellectuals and peacekeepers who would offer haven and innovations all in one. How to do this was another matter all together. Perhaps she could hold a herd meeting where all could vote on whether or not they wanted various things and that would be how she made her headway? She would have to tell Smoke this plan as it seemed a rather good one. Indy hadn't been around lately and she felt lonely after so many years spent wandering with just him..perhaps he had become tired of her...perhaps she would become alone? Lazulli flopped on her back like a cat laying on a branch with his head nestled into the mane on her withers, he lovingly said "I will never leave you my bonded and so you will never be alone." Guiltily she swung her head about to nuzzle his nose. No, she would never be truly alone. Just as they were about to turn about and head out of this hopeless land she caught a whiff of mental thought on the wind. It was so similar to one that she remembered from long ago that she couldn't help but walk towards it. She moved carefully and before she knew it she saw the mare, black as night and slightly blurry. Oh! That was Mirage, the nice mare who had helped her with her quest for Aarde! In her excitement, she whinnied and trotted forward to the spot of clear land where the mare stood as she happily called out in her smooth, musical voice, Mirage! Mirage! It is me, Gossamer!. Lazulli, remembering the mare, hopped off Gossamer's back and flew to Mirage where he plopped down on her back without asking(a trait he seemed to have picked up that Gossamer wasn't particularly fond of) and bowed a dragonly bow to the gold's chosen Bonded before going to greet the gold herself. He landed several paces away from her and offered a deep and humble bow to the Queen before him before rising again. Though, he did not move from his spot for he knew she would have to give him permission to get any closer. As this was going on, Gossamer reached Mirage and gave her a forwardly friendly nose nuzzle, forgetting her manners in her excitement. However, as soon as she'd done so she pulled away with a small gasp. "Gods, I'm sorry. You probably don't even remember me. haha. I'm Gossamer and I used to be a healer in Isilme when we met. You helped me with a quest." Though she was obviously no longer young and was quite a bit older, her eyes shone and she held a youthful smile on her face as she spoke, ecstatic to see an old acquaintance she knew. The mists covered the dragon-like things following Mirage and Gossamer saw him not. The mists covered the dragon-like things following Mirage and Gossamer saw him not. Vikram April 14th, 2012 at 1:25pm It was pleasant to have another's company, without any expectations involved. Merely companionship and perhaps some small bit of conversation at times. Silent conversation was all, for the moment, that passed between them. An ear tilt acknowledged and accepted his presence and respectful gestures, and that was wholy enough for him. But then the relative quiet of the marsh was disturbed by a whinny that rang with joyful recognition, and the massive stallion turned his head inquiringly toward the sound, though he knew it was not meant for him. Golden eyes watched in silence as a pale mare with a blue dragon approached with cautious speed. Their greetings were for Mirage and Akaith, and a whisper of jealousy stirred within him as he observed the energetic greetings. At the same time he was rather amused that this little pale mare didn't seem to notice him at all. It was an unusual happenstance that teased a small smile to his face. Akaith came over to him then, and Vikram lowered his head to her with attentive ears as she spoke of introductions to the small blue. A low, gentle rumble vibrated in his chest then, his own greeting offered to the other dragon. He heard his name spoken then, in Mirage's voice, and he lifted his head from Akaith and the blue to look toward Mirage and the other mare. More introductions. "It is my pleasure, Lady Gossamer." He kept his voice low, but pleasant as he greeted her. Gossamer the Benevolent April 24th, 2012 at 1:18am Mirage was kind, but mildly reserved, at the sudden outburst of friendliness and Gossamer felt mildly embarrassed at her impulsive actions. Yet, the black mare hadn't NOT welcomed it, so perhaps it was merely just surprise. The dark mare looked slightly behind her and introduced her friend, Vikram, an incredibly huge male who appeared to be both stallion and dragon at the same time. Her initial reaction was of mild surprise, followed by the beginnings of a head cocking to the side which was quickly cut off, and then a smile. If he was Mirage's companion he was good, her voice was warmly musical as she replied to his kind greeting, "Pleasure to meet you Vikram, a companion of Mirage is always a welcome acquaintance. " Lazulli, on the other hand, was instantly captivated. He flew over to the larger gold and chirruped in a friendly manner at the stallion-dragon by way if introduction and greetings before having his attention again caught by the female. She was the only one he'd seen recently, even one close to his great age...and she was so very pretty. He couldn't help but gaze, slightly besotted. Gossamer whuffled quietly at Lazulli's silly behaviour as Mirage posed a new question to her, albeit indirectly, about her place in a herd. She smiled warmly at the obsidian and spoke happily, "I am the Foothills Chieftess, along with Smoke the Wild Rose as Military Chieftess, and my mate at my side. I've only met the Dragon's Throat lead thus far, and I can't say..well...he may speak kindly but his intentions are dark." She took on a serious face then, troubled at the thought of having to navigate negotiations with somehorse like Ra. Poppy April 24th, 2012 at 2:37am She did not like the place when she got there, a small shadow for a ghost, cautiously following in the mist, darting behind clouds to stay out of sight. She had been stalking Gossamer for a while now, but cautiously; this was the first time she dared follow the mare away from the Foothills. She had no idea where her shining white idol was going, and it did not occur to her that it might be somewhere she did not like. At this point, gossamer was perfect in the little grey mare's eyes, and very little could be done to alter that perception. Still, she really did not like this place. It reeked of decay and rotten water and sweat and humidity. The energy of the trees here was foreign, almost frightening to her, and her magic recoiled away from it. Her vines were drooping, all the flowers wilted and gone from their tendrils, but still the little grey mare plodded on, determined to protect her new benefactor from whatever horrors lay beneath the surface of the murky water. Luckily, the plants outlined for her a safe path; once she let her hoof slip into the slimy waste, and nearly shrieked with alarm, frantically withdrawing herself as far from the much as she could. Of course, while doing this she completely lost track of Gossamer, the white form of the mare and her bright dragon disappearing into the mist. She did not like that. Frantic now, she sought Gossamer with bloodstained eyes, tripping over herself as she scrambled to catch up with her pale benefactress. The marsh was significantly scarier when she was alone, and she couldn't help but whimper in fear. No. She had to be strong. Slowly, at first, she set off in the direction Gossamer'd disappeared in, then faster, then she was barreling blindly through the fog, wanting to get away from the smell and find people and- Oof! Blinded by her terror, she'd run into something, chest smacking the object or individual and bringing her to an abrupt stop. She could not see anything, and it took her a moment to realize that this was because her eyes were clamped tightly shut. Cautiously, she opened them, peering at the surroundings. She could see a flickery black mare, an ENORMOUS winged scary horse thing, and two colorful and spiny little shapes. Her eyes opened comically wide, the little grey mare could only stare in shock, dark vines quivering on her condensation-covered coat. The only thing that kept her from running away in terror was the smell of something familiar and calming and- "Gossamer! Gossamer they're scary I scared why is so dark not safe and dead I followed you because I can fix things but not the dead things and scary trees!" Finally out of breath, she stopped, panting, and shoved herself against Gossamer's side, not caring what the mare thought. Quivering, the mare dared to peer around her chosen protector, staring at the two strangers. She had finally figured out that the blue thing was in fact Lazuli, which calmed her down some, and now that she was not panicking she could detect a distinct lack of desire to murder her in the other two. "Don't eat me." Mirage April 25th, 2012 at 1:36pm The mare felt like she was introducing Vikram to numerous beings lately, he always seem to tag along with her wanderings – not that she minded in the least. His presence, though large, did not intimidate her. What did she have to fear from anyone when she possessed the magic she did, along with a golden dragon capable of much more than her size suggested? Though he probably intimidated many other commoners, Mirage was no common mare, and based purely on the fact that he had shown nothing but kindness and loyalty to her, she would do the same – perhaps with a bit of Mirage-flair added to the mix. Gossamer spoke about holding the black mare’s opinion highly, and Mirage wondered what she had done in order to receive such trust from the Pale One. Their time in Isilme was a brief encounter, but one where Mirage had aided the mare to save her adopted youth – Mirage wondered if she would have behaved similarly were the roles reversed. Certainly the dragons got along fine, their ages being so similarly ancient as well as their birthplaces, they had many memories they could share. And upon sharing those memories Akaith certainly confirmed her likeness for the blue, something which undoubtedly influenced Mirage’s opinion of Gossamer. Hearing of the pale mare’s success in establishing the herd intrigued the mare, and she was genuinely happy for her success, but again wondered if she herself would ever be capable of such things. She longed for a home much like her homeland, and having not found one yet, she grew homesick for lands long since vanished into abysmal darkness. Refusing to allow her spark to life to be dampened, she continued looking for something that would soother this incessant itching – it was like an itch that couldn’t be scratched, nothing seemed to satisfy her yearning. The fact that she barely knew what she was yearning for didn’t help, though socialising seemed to help, which made her think that it was indeed herd life she missed. “How interesting.” Mirage quipped about the leader of the Throat, for she certainly agreed with the mare. Since their encounter with the strange lion creature whom Mirage had guessed could transform into an equine, she did not like the stallion, least of all for the way he treated her dear friend, Torasin. “I wonder what the World’s Edge are like, the lands seem to be awfully quiet in that part of Helovia.” And quietness certainly wasn’t a good thing. Who knew what they could possibly be planning behind their tall trees and high cliffs? Thoughts churned within the mare’s cranium over various things, but they were soon interrupted by a rather loud clashing of bodies. The grey one that had entered the scene could very well have been a ghost, her colouring being the same colour as the mist that hung about them. But the connective thump that had collided her bodice to Gossamer’s were real enough, and though the obsidian lady was surprised by the newcomer, she too smelt of the Foothills and clung to Gossamer’s side. A passing thought as to whether this was one of Gossamer’s own children fluttered through her head, though she dismissed it quite shortly after it appeared. Their likeness was only in their shared paled coats, but even those were quite different, upon longer inspection of the distraught mare’s. Amusement glittered behind Mirage’s eyes as the mare yammered on about scary places, though the mare did absorb that this one potentially held the ability to heal. It was something she could have used for when Torasin was ailed, but sheer time and patience had done the trick for him. The comment about Mirage and Vikram not eating her allowed even more amusement to roll through her. A look was cast to Vikram, and the dragons who frolicked nearby, it had been a little while since Mirage had had some fun. Though she did not want to take advantage of the mare’s distraught state, she had to do something. The mare moved towards the giant stallion, at first walking directly towards him, before altering her path to use his enormous bodice to shield her from view to the other mares. While she was there her magic stole away her appearance, leaving behind a shimmering apparition, a foggy memory of her appearance. Tendrils from her tail moved to whip against her side, likely brushing against the bay hide of the stallion. She continued walking forwards, the mists swirling about her mirage, smiling a devious smile. “I cannot speak for Vikram, little mare.” Her voice was powerful and accented. “But you do look rather tasty.” Her waltz continued, her destination aimed to be at the dappled mare’s exposed side. Once she arrived there, her illusion dropped, and now she spoke kindly. “Do not fear, there will be no eating of your pretty face today.” She stood close to them, wanting the one that was afraid to be able to feel that she was real, warm and equine – certainly not interested in eating her. [ ooc : obviously I've sort of based this time-wise to be after Tor and Mirage got out of the Throat ] Vikram April 28th, 2012 at 11:42pm Humor rose in him as the pale mare's attention finally fell upon his form, and she responded with confusion and curiosity. This was a mare he could potentially come to like, he was sure. A smile flickered across his features then, as his attention varied between mares and dragons. An ear was tilted toward the conversation while he watched the smallest of their company. Talk of herds. It was mildly interesting, even if he did not believe any of it really affected him. If any had a claim to his loyalty, it was Mirage, and she was as much of a wanderer as he. An unexpected thump had him lifting his gaze back toward the mares, only to discover a third had appeared. He hadn't heard her approach, but now that he saw her the stallion was bemused by the gray mare who was clinging so closely to Gossamer, words not quite making sense. Strange creature. His gaze flickered to Mirage, unintentionally making eye contact. An ear twitched, suspecting some mischief, which was quickly proven correct when the dark mare moved toward him, around him. Obligingly he shifted his long tail to be as little in the way as possible, head tilting slightly just in time to see her gather her magic around her while in the lee of his body. It was a bit of an effort to keep a straight face, especially when he felt the brush of Mirage's tail against his leg. His gaze tracked her barely visible form... as she sauntered right up to the newcomer with joking words meant to tease. Vikram barely managed to keep from laughing until his dark friend dropped her magic, at which point he let himself chuckle. A deep, rumbling sound. "Do not worry yourself over me. I prefer smaller game when I do supplement my diet." He offered a warm smile then, dipping his head to make himself seem smaller. A hard feat, considering he towered over all three of them to start with. Gossamer the Benevolent May 3rd, 2012 at 9:17pm (OOC: Sorry for lateness!!!) Gossamer heard the mare's reply of the quietness of the Unicorn's land as of late and agreed. Though she had not, as of yet, made the necessary diplomatic journey's to both the nearby herdlands, she was accustomed to meeting them in the Threshold or nodding to her upon her various travels within the lands. However, as of late these other horses had been suspiciously absent from the lands and she hadn't seen Ra anywhere...and sightings of the Unicorns of the Edge had been even more rare. She hoped they were all alright and no plight had befallen them. She replied to the mare's comment with a voice that flowed delicately through the air, "Ah, yes, they have all been as of late. I've only seen horses from my herd or outcasts. I am incredibly curious to know whats going on in them." She was just about to comment to Vikram when she was hit with a wall of bursting thoughts which made her cringe. Thus, she was unprepared for when Poppy hit her head on. With a loud "oof!" she swayed on her feet, then sighed and listened patiently as Poppy let out the torrent of panicked words which then emitted from her little mouth. She felt for the mare's condition of mild insanity but, Gossamer had noticed, that the mare had seemed far more coherent and able to conduct thoughts than she had when the Benevolent had first found the vine'd mare shivering in the snow. As Poppy spoke she noticed Mirage getting ready to do something and smiled as she moved behind Vikram when Poppy said the line "don't eat me". She chuckled loudly and reassuredly touched her neck, and whispered "Oh, they're not going to eat you dearie, they're horses just like me and you!" and then Mirage put on her little play and Gossamer had to chuckle for she did seem to be quite scary. Hopefully, her words would reassure the mare enough to keep her from running away. Though she enjoyed Mirage's playing, she was worried for the fun made at her little friend's expense. Her delicate mind was not prone to holding up against such assaults as seeing odd horses, and she had only just begun getting better through Gossamer's watchful eye and aid. Hopefully, she would get over the thing quickly, perhaps she'd even find humor in it. She smiled at Vikram for his kind words and Lazulli, sensing he could help, kicked out his hind leg against the sole rock on the little clearing and stubbed his claw-toe. He chirruped at Poppy loudly, asking her in his language to come and help him with his hurt toe. Gossamer smiled at her dragon. He had come to look after the little mare like one of his own eggs, for he had fathered a few clutches before and, unusually, stayed with the mother until the hatching. Therefore, whenever he could help direct her or make her feel better in any way, he did it, kind soul that he was. She was lucky to have such a good companion as Lazulli. Mirage May 31st, 2012 at 7:06pm [ OK, so to conclude this thread so that it can be transferred over when the rest of the Archives are transferred over, basically, all the ponies eventually get along, with Poppy being scared/nervous but Mirage/Vikram getting along happily with Goss? Friendships made etc. The end.] |
