Up in the air [open] - Nephele - 10-04-2015
The heavy thud of hooves rippled across the small clearing, followed by the sweep of large wings giving one last powerful beat before they nestled neatly against the pegasus' dark pelt. Too long it had been since her hooves had touched familiar soil, too long she had laid her oddly coloured eyes on what she called home. When she had left, she had no purpose than to just explore and to be free to as the wind was, the tender age of three, just a filly foal chasing the whirling winds as far north and south without a care in the world. Now she was eight and back with a purpose. All she had to do now to get her first hoof through the door, was navigate through the sprawling thickets of trees that went on for miles. Trees were a nightmare that answered to no one, her mane catching on every other low hanging branch and earning a bitter sounding snap from the large mare in response —spending more time detangling the cascade of black and orange waves than actually making headway. This would be much easier if I could find the space to fly, she thought to herself, casting a gaze up to the darkened thatch of green and brown obscuring the light; creating a canopy that any seasoned flyer would have trouble navigating, or maybe it was just her, she was far too used to open spaces. How Unicorns could be so comfortable in this was beyond her. Nephele was loathe to admit she was utterly lost, and grounded — what a great way to begin her long campaign to greatness, recognition and hopefully ascension. Crunching wood beneath her iron hard hooves, she finally pulled her mane free of the latest oak to snare her tangle prone locks, giving the trunk a rather childish kick as she turned and broke into a light trot in what she assumed was the right direction. "What a horrible place," she muttered to herself, jumping a fallen tree and winding around a particularly large rock, "I'll be glad to see the back end of it." If I manage to find the end of it first. Nephele found herself slowing when she found herself closing in on a clearing, the oaks still refusing to relinquish enough space for her to simply fly, but at least she had space to breath and maybe come up with a plan; she didn't want to become that mare who got lost and ran around in circles through the threshold. Whipping her tail in an irritated fashion, mindful to make sure it didn't end up getting tangled on a nearby bush, she turned her attention back to the numerous small pockets of pathways she could take. "Which one?" She mused to herself out loud while she turned in a semi-circle, her frustration beginning to thread through her voice — Nephele had never been one blessed with patience, especially when it came to something that appeared to be simple. "This is why I prefer the sky, less hassle..." ______________ Notes;; first post! RE: Up in the air [open] - Erthë - 10-04-2015 The underbrush was a secret world to those small and slender enough to get through it. Unseen from higher vantage points, hidden by dense greenery a labyrinth of pathways coursed back and forth, intersecting and joining only to split off again. Deer trails and rabbit paths ran alongside the stalking grounds of fox and ermines, here and there trailing off to hidden dens, nests, hollows and burrows. Wildlife was abundant if one only had the eyes - and altitude - to see it, and if you knew where to go it was a breeze to get by. She knew these forests like the back of her own wing. Erthë had spent far more time roaming about the wilderness than in the northernmost herd that was supposed to be her home, all thanks to her vagabonding mother. With an uncanny knack for knowing which direction she was headed even though sun or stars couldn't be seen, she had turned into something of a woodland expert at the ripe age of four months. Today she was moving with unusual haste along the winding tracks. She had napped a bit too long after the latest training session with her mother, and when she woke up the mare was gone. Gone! Just like that, without a word or any hint of where she might have gone. The filly was equal parts angry and worried, not for her own sake so much as for the black pegasus mare. She really didn't take well to the icky sickness that afflicted them both. Whereas she was still able to function quite normally, despite running nose and rattling coughs and a weird tendency to see colors in the dark where there should be none, her mother was worse off. Losing weight and always with a harrowed, pained look on her face, it was horrible to see the strong mare so downcast and weakened. Erthë didn't know what would happen if she collapsed somewhere. What if they didn't find one another, what if Shadow ended up too sick to move, what if the little she had learned from uncle Badger about herbs and healing wasn't enough to help her? So she hurried, because the scent of her mother had still been lingering in the air, meaning she couldn't be far off. Bursting through the thicket at breakneck speed, she thought herself able to recognize a dark figure in a clearing up ahead. Elation bloomed like wild flowers within, and with a triumphant expression the little hybrid girl burst out into the open, leaves and brambles tangled into the silky curls and every feather a ruffled, misalinged mess. "Hi mom, I found you, sorry I overslept but.... OH!" Skidding across the ground, legs splayed in an attempt to slow down, she came to an abrupt halt just before the black mare. The black, winged mare with sun-burned mane tips and brilliantly hued eyes that was decidedly not her mother. This person was too big, too old, too everything! "Who are you!?" she asked, blunt and with something accusatory in the misty green eye - the right one, at least, because the left one was mostly hidden by coils of shimmering white hair. "Where's mom?" Disappointment was a fact, rudeness the direct result of it. What was she supposed to do with this big old bag of a mare? No milk, no comfort, no familiar amethyst eyes lighting up at the sight of her... Really, if it wasn't Shadow then it wasn't good enough. e r t h ë
in every lost soul the bones of a miracle @Nephele Up in the air [open] - Nephele - 10-04-2015
For a mare as tall as she, the underbrush and it's wealth of hidden worlds and secrets were a mere after thought. She stopped being interested in the ground beneath her when her wings finally allowed her to take her first few bumbling strides in a place her feet would not carry her swift and true. Crawling through the brushes, with thistles and burrs matted and tangled in fluffy strands which stuck up in odd angles was something for foals, the smallest of her equine counterparts and other small critters. The black pegasus let out a breathy snort, blue and gold orbs focusing on one path and then another, the indecision creasing her brow in fine wrinkles. Perhaps it would be better to just pick one and stick through it, it wouldn't be the first time — or the last, that the large mare had taken a shot in the dark and hoped it worked out. It was very much a core part of her personality, through thick and thin, the good and bad situations that often followed those shot-in-the-dark actions. However, this wasn't just any other time, this was suppose to be her grand entrance back to Helovia, the first hoofstep in her path to her bright future. Her thoughts, or rather, her indecision was brought to an abrupt halt as the sound of twigs snapping and small hooves thundered through the thicket. Any question as to who, or what it was didn't have time to register, a blur of white flicked with twigs and leaves broke into her line of vision followed by the young ones elated voice reached her ears. Nephele turned rather sharply to face the small hybrid as she skidded to a rather inelegant halt — the big mares mottled wings ruffled in reaction to the sudden surprise that had turned up. Mom. She had thought she was her mother? The little filly clearly saw her own mistake in the unceremonious attempt to not knock into the larger of the two. Nephele had opened her mouth to speak to the small mass of white fur and feathers until the Hybrid opened her mouth first, and was met with rudeness. A frown now etched onto her features as she sized up the filly, her large 16.3hh frame dwarfed her in comparison. Slight and the colour of porcelain, with misty coloured emeralds for eyes, she looked just as fragile as her coat colour. "Are you always this rude to strangers?" Electing to ignore the fact she had been asked her name, Nephele turned once again to the task at hand, the swathes of black and ember coloured hair moving in the fluid motion and at a tail flick. Surely this little filly could find her way back to her mother now, turning her head so her bright blue eye could peer at the youngster before it became obscured by long tresses. Did children always so rude with irrelevant questions? "I haven't seen your mom. I've seen no one in the time I've been here in fact." There was a shortness to her tone, not bothering to try and hide it either. Nephele had never been particularly good with masking her exasperation and ill-temper when it came to socialising with other equines, her mother and her adoptive herd in her youth had believed she would grow out of it in favour of her mothers more gentle nature. She hadn't, instead she'd gotten more of her sire's personality than Urania had initially bargained for. The other was merely a distraction to her, and rather than spend another minute and face a barrage of questions from the youngster, she picked the pathway to the east of her and began walking. No doubt her mother was close by and would pick her up, leaving her alone was enough to tell Nephele the place was somewhat safe for foals to wander. Please let this be the way she silently hoped, taking caution not to let the worry work its way onto her strong features. ______________ Notes;; fiend! calling her an old bag! @Erthë RE: Up in the air [open] - Tembovu - 10-04-2015
- table by Niki - @Nephele welcome! Would you like to be tagged? :D RE: Up in the air [open] - Nephele - 10-04-2015 The trails and thickets were suffocating, to say the very least. So grand were the oaks in their branches, and so desperate were the vines and the shrubs to bask in the suns life giving glow, they left little room for movement and mishap. Should she stumble, she would quite easily be tangled by the sprawling vines and gnarled roots — no doubt she would be stuck until someone with more muscle and mass came along. Keeping her head low as to watch her step, but also keep her head raised just enough to avoid the waterfalls of mane from becoming adorned with all manner of debris, she moved slowly and decidedly. The little hybrid would not be much help, if she so chose to follow behind the much larger Pegasus, and Nephele was decidedly against relying on something so frail looking to find help in such a vast expanse of ever changing shades of green. Nephele hadn't had much chance to make headway from the clearing before another presence made itself known. Mismatched eyes lifted and followed the warm voice, and settled in a curious and somewhat wary gaze on the larger stallion. Not that she was particularly threatened by the muscled stallion draped in the very colours of primal earth itself, the rich buckskin mixing with bold markings, and a dusting of pristine pangare. It was simply because the life of a lone wanderer made you cautious and mistrusting of those that you did not know. It didn't help that he was the first equine she had to gaze up to in a long time, Nephele was very much used to being the tall one. "Yes, she certainly has a way with words." The onyx mare responded, casting her gaze once more towards the foal in question — the look on her face a watered down version of vexation. Even though she had taken her focus from the larger stallion, she kept him within her vision. "She seemed to think I was her mother at first glance." "Nephele." Giving her name in kind to Tembovu, a fitting name, it sounded powerful rolling off of the tongue. A powerful name for a powerful Stallion, no doubt. "Right now, I had only the thought to get out of here," Nephele replied, shifting in her place as to stop an offending branch poking her side, "Herdlands were the farthest thing from my mind." It was a half-truth, Herdland decisions would come once she was in a better position, not squared between the forest floor and ancient oaks. She didn't have much of an idea of which land would call to her either, or who would try and recruit her to their cause. _____________ Notes;; Please! Do go ahead and tag me in posts. @Tembovu RE: Up in the air [open] - Erthë - 10-04-2015 No, generally the girl was a very polite and well mannered foal who did proper introductions and only made people uncomfortable due to youthful ignorance and naivety. But this shock of seeing a stranger where she had expected the familiar form of her mother had pushed all thoughts of friend making out of her mind. Upon being accused of rudeness she just pressed the lips together in a sulky grimace and stepped out of the way, mind racing as she tried to figure out where the Blackbird could have gone off to. Oh, there were so many places. The stream a ways off to the east, the glade with the lush grass down south, maybe the dense thickets where they had slept a few times while traveling back to the north... Or she might have taken off again, gone on one of those desperate searches for the Gods knew what, despite being sick and tired and in the company of her, Erthë. Biting her lip in worry she was completely prepared to let the stranger leave - she didn't have the shadow mare tucked under a wing, after all - but before either of them had managed to lose the company of the other, a third figure stepped out into the clearing. And this time Erthë lit up in recognition, worry transforming into delight as she bounced over to the towering bear of a stallion. "Hi Tembu!" she greeted eagerly, unabashedly charging in to wrestle a hug from his sturdy knees. He had been kind to her before, and someone who greeted her with such uncle-like warmth was automatically included into her generous idea of friendship. "Yeah, we were going north and this is the shortest way. But I took a nap and when I woke up she was gone, and I think she's still around somewhere but I can't find her. Then this impostor called me rude!" Slipping closer to wrap herself with feline affection around the stags front legs (she easily fit beneath his barrel and giggled as she made to duck under it, fearless and not the least concerned about his big hooves) and looked back at the mare, this Ne-fe-le with a hurt look that was only a little too earnest. Poking out her tongue at the mare - well at least now she did deserve to be called out for the lacking manners - she craned her neck to gaze up at her loosely acquainted friend, curiosity overshadowing the worry for the mother. Shadow always came back, after all, sooner or later. "Does the world have an edge?" she breathed, awestruck and fearful at the same time. "What happens if you fall off? What's on the other side?" e r t h ë

If she had known that running into the little white filly would infect her, Nephele just might've turned tail and run at the very idea of becoming ill from Erthe. But she hadn't known, how could she? She had spent a great deal of time absent from the company of her kin and their counterparts, and then time beyond the borders. Inevitably she had put herself at risk and paid the price. Still, the symptoms wouldn't become apparent so quickly after contraction, and the Pegasus mare wouldn't be any the wiser unless someone informed her of the fact she was at risk, and needed to find a cure. "Indeed." Unnaturally coloured eyes watched the lithe little creature perkily bounce her way over to the large Unicorn, obviously elated that someone she knew had finally shown up — unable to keep the disgruntled look out of her visible golden eye, it was clear as the day was bright, Nephele had never had a foal of her own nor been in the company of one for a great deal of time. Erthe was a test of her patience, and she'd never had much patience to begin with. "I am not an imposter, I never claimed that I was your mother!" Snorting in exasperation, she elected to ignore the pink tongue poked out in her direction. Turning her attention back to Tembovu in the next breath as he mentioned the clearing up ahead, irritation giving way to relief at the mention of finding a way off of the rather cramped trail. "Lead the way, I'll be glad just to be able to move my head around at this point without a branch in my face." Following the boldly marked stud, making sure to be mindful of the little filly that would no doubt wind her way like a feline between the two of them. Content to listen to Tembovu entertain the youngsters questions, it was a prime opportunity to learn about herdlands and their variations. The only time herdlands had been discussed in great depth was back when she herself was young, her mother told tales about her herdland and her fathers, before they had flown off together. Neph herself had never spent too much time at the Edge in her exploration of Helovia. "Perhaps one day you can fly there Erthe." Neph commented, trying to make some effort to appease the porcelain equine in her company. Her own wings shifting at the mention of their need at the Edge while she flicked her tail to avoid a fallen branch, one or two stray strands snagging before they gave way — leaving the black and sienna strands wrapped wrapped firm around the gnarled wood. "See the edge of the world yourself, and what's on the other side." The question prompted her to fall into silence, head tipping to the side. "I've recently returned from a land far from Helovia, to the east of the borders. I'm Native to Helovia myself, I just have a wanders spirit." Entering the clearing was met with a relieved sigh, the amber and ash maned mare glad for the space, having stopped with her front hooves in the small creek. However small the clearing was, she was going to assume this was as good as it was going to get until the boughs and vines let up. "What about you?" Question coming moments after Nephele had answered Tembovu's own. "Is the Edge your homeland? Or just your Herdland?" ______________ Notes;; Notes go here! @Erthë @Tembovu @Random Event RE: Up in the air [open] - Miykael - 10-06-2015

RE: Up in the air [open] - Random Event - 10-07-2015 Pssst you can use your magic on yourself RE: Up in the air [open] - Megaera - 10-07-2015 Life. It stirred inside the Sultana yet unknown and unseen but already altering her normal patterns of behavior. She had never been the queen of serene, but they past few days had seen a new level of restlessness that not even the heat of Tallsun could drain out of her. In the wake of the Sun God’s latest appearance in the Flats patrols froth the Throat stretching east had near doubled, and Meg was not one to leave such work in the hands of her warriors, capable as they were, and so had set out for her turn. Spark, Moon, and Sun had all appeared in new lands with monsters in tow and now it seemed Helovia held its breath for Earth’s return. The threshold way always worth a visit, if anything or anyone entered Helovia it would be through these parts, so Megaera picked her way through the forested pass. As much as her body was determined to keep her on the move, Meg was in a remarkably good mood so when a cluster of voices reached her ears she perked up, ears and eyes alert and moved towards the sounds. The cluster of four that had congregated by a winding creek had three bodies she’d seen before but not well known. Always such strange fellows to be found in the Threshold she thought with an amused smile, and then moved forward overhearing a comment about wings in the Edge. “Wings would be wasted in the Edge, far too many trees (at least for my taste)” She strode forward with a confident gait and sent a general nod of greeting to all before turning eyes on the dark mare. She had a bit of the warrior’s look about her, lean and muscled and decorated in red; as per usual Meg had a twinge of envy for her height. “If you are looking for a herdland the Throat might be more to your liking. It’s a bit warm in the south, but we’ve got plenty of open sky above the dunes. Of course, I am heartily biased. I am Megaera, Sultana of Dragon’s Throat.” Her confident smile faded slightly when she looked to the paint stallion. Not so long ago he had healed her and two more of her family but by the black tar marring his face signaled that he himself had not escaped the disease’s grip. “I am sorry to see you in such a state Miykael. If The Throat’s physicians can be of help, you would be most welcome.” She glanced worriedly at the little alabaster filly. “You as well, little one, if none closer can be found.” She looked at the Healer again, well aware of the state his healing had cost him in the meadow and not wanting to demand more than he might offer for she had no power to command on of the Falls. Megaera the Sunspear RE: Up in the air [open] - Erthë - 10-08-2015 Listening wide eyed to the explanation the pearly hued filly looked between Nephele's wings and her own miniature feathers. Spreading them out she tried to compare, but the difference in both hue and apparent size was disheartening. Still. She did have wings, and Mother said she would teach Erthë how to fly someday soon. Maybe she could go the the edge of the world too then, and visit Tembu. "But you look like her and you stood where I thought she were" she muttered as the red-marked mare complained. "And I want to go to the Edge too but I have to stay here and look for her..." Encouraged by that thought, she hovered close by the elephant man as they walked, and pressed even nearer to him when the foliage parted to reveal first one, then another horse! All of them had wings, none had horns, and though they were smiling and talking the fawn felt a sudden heat rise to her cheeks. Shyness was, perhaps, not very prominent in her character, but there was a difference between being cheeky when there was one or two to hear her, and a completely different thing altogether when the meeting turned into a gathering. She kept her mouth closed and tried to just follow along with the conversation, already bored but also a bit fascinated by the complicated turns in adult language. It seemed to her that they were having a very friendly battle about the mother impostor, where the winner would get to take her home. What a lucky mare; already three herds were vying for her attention, but Erthë had almost been left to the wolves by the unicorns of the Basin. A gentle prickle of envy bled into her gut as she looked between the horses - would they have been as eager if it had been her that was new and homeless? She sniffed. Black ooze retreated back up the nostril it had tried to escape, only to start its slow descent again. They were talking about the illnesses now, and it made her prick the woolly ears in renewed interest. The last arrival, the Megaera lady, mentioned the Throat and healers too, and it instilled such confidence into her that the filly actually spoke up. "I know uncle Badger!" she said. "He told me he doesn't know what the cure is... D-do you?" Stuttering slightly and blushing harshly as she addressed the soft-spoken Miykael, she twisted in on herself in the anxious wait that followed upon her question. Maybe they would ignore her, maybe they would snap and growl and look at her with stern adult eyes until she grew quiet again... But maybe they could help her heal her mother, too. e r t h ë

Watching the alabaster filly try and compare her wings, the raven hued mare was briefly cast back to her time as a youngling. How she'd compare her small, down covered wings to her mothers seemingly never ending ones, hoping one day hers would be just as big if not entirely eclipse Urania's. The memory was enough to soothe her critical gaze and first impression of Erthë somewhat. "One day, you'll have wings as big as mine," Nephele offered, stretching her own as far as they could go, which wasn't very far as they only lifted a fraction of the way off of her sides, "and I'm sure your mother isn't far away from us, if you thought I was her." Tembovu's reply was met with a swivel of her pierced ear, a questioning look misting her cerulean and gold eyes but she didn't press any further. While she wasn't good at reading people as well as her surroundings, she knew when to move on from a line of conversation on to the next. Nodding in response, she offered him a lopsided smile. "I did, I didn't leave Helovia entirely until about nearly two years ago. My mother and I were a part of one of the small roaming herds, I grew up between the Deep Forest and the Flats." It's a bittersweet memory, considering her mother was no longer alive to welcome her back to her homeland. The bitter part didn't have time to sink in, as two more strangers made themselves known. Tembovu's jesting wink paired with his bemusing admission he was the odd one out, had earned an amused snort from the large mare. She could tell her tales later, there was more pressing matters to attend to, they had new comers in their mist. Miykael was a sorry sight to her eyes, he looked weathered beyond the years his face carried. "Nephele." She offers with a small nod of her head, taking care not to let her long forelock obscure her vision — he seemed sincere and pleasant, but she could never be too sure. The next words he spoke, however, had her insides twist in a small bout of panic. The sap like substance which stained Erthë's face as well as his own, she was at risk of it herself — if she hadn't already contracted it. She couldn't ignore the apparently injustice of Miykael's predicament, as Tembovu had voiced. "It seems almost too cruel of the gods to do such a thing, why would they bless you with the cure, but not allow you to use it on yourself?" Odd coloured eyes peer at the Dunskin and the Dark Bay mare respectively, now the small bay has appeared. It takes a few moments more before she realizes that she has three different herdlands in her presence, two of which are outwardly vying for her recruitment and the third offering to cure her and the little fawn in their presence. Indecision had never been apart of her, but she can't help but feel a small bout of uncertainty on where she would end up — it was in the end her choice, and her choice alone after all. Nephele takes the mammoth stallions greeting to Megaera as a sign she poses no threat, ears pricking forward once more as she offers her a welcoming nod and introduced herself. "Nephele." Falling silent when Meg makes a comment of the Throat being a better fit, Neph's only sound is a mirthful laugh when Meg's light hearted jibe about the throat is met with Tembovu's own humor. Neph has heard of the throat, through her old herds tales and her mothers own brand of story telling in her youth, her own travels had never taken her south to the sun touched isles, something which she regrets to a degree, and so her old herdmates and Urania's stories had been all she knew of it. It was a island mostly inhabited by Pegasus, and the homeland of her father, if anything, her heart pulled towards the desert oasis. Her thoughts are pulled from her choice by Erthë's sudden burst of speech, prompting a surprised look to invade her dark features, she had been so quiet Nephele had almost forgotten she was there. Thick neck lowering so she could glance curiously at the filly curled around Tembovu's legs, her ear turning towards Tembovu's rumbling voice. Watching the black sap weep from the foals eyes and nose for a few moments, Nephele made up her mind. "If Miykael is up to the task, I would rather he try and heal her first." She stated, turning her head towards the Dunskin stud, then to Megaera and finally Tembovu. "Then myself, but like Tembovu said, I don't want you to overtax yourself." ______________ Notes;; Notes go here! @Tembovu @Miykael @Megaera @Erthë RE: Up in the air [open] - Miykael - 10-11-2015
[no idea if any of this makes any sense but it's after 2am now and I'm exhausted! So here you go!] @Megaera @Erthë @Tembovu RE: Up in the air [open] - Megaera - 10-11-2015 Megaera’s eyes swept down to the little filly at her comment and the sultana smiled, a bit sadly. "I am sorry, little one, but I do not know what the cure is. Mikyael was able to heal me and mine, though I have set Badger and our Sun Physician to meet with the other healers to see what the can learn.” She lifted her gaze to the paint “We would hope not to leave the whole of Helovia on your shoulders alone. Ranjiri and Ilios are well, I cannot express my thanks enough for your help. You and the Falls have Friends in the Throat if ever you need them.” Despite the shade of sickness the group was amicable enough to find humor and she chuckled appreciatively at Tembovu’s repartee. Even if they were both seemed to be vying to recruit she was still appreciative of his attitude as it put her more at ease. “I’m sure none of us will hold you lack of wings against you. The gods didn’t fashion every bird and beast to live in the same places so i’m sure the Edge suites you fine, but my heart belongs to the open sands. To be fair I’ve never seen your cliffs firsthand but you’d be welcome to visit if Frostfall gets a bit nippy.” She turned her eyes to the other rare again. “Well met, Mephele. It seems a welcome back is in order. Strange, isn’t it, how our dear Helovia always seems to lure us back. I’ll extend an offer to you as well, if Tembovu here has not already tempted you away. The Throat is always ready to welcome a new face.” She paused enough to listen to the to the further exchange about healing ins and outs between the other three. Not being knowledgeable about the filed herself she had nothing much to offer in that realm and so was content to listen and learn what she could. When the unicorn mentioned that the people of the edge had been granted immunity by the Goddess of the moon, she couldn’t quite mask the flash of distaste that passed over her features. For a moment her smile fades to a grimace and dark eyes flash in Tembovu’s direction. Her recent venture with Cera and the reassurances of the Sun God had given her a grudging respect for the power and necessity of the Goddess to the balance of magic in Helovia, but that didn’t stop the bitter taste in her mouth. She could make no move against the purple mare but that didn’t mean she could stomach her cruelty or her past actions easily. ’Diplomacy is more important now than old wounds.’ The Sultana reminds herself and forces her features to relax again. Her gaze rotates from mare to filly and back to the healer, and the bay nods in agreement to the consensus that the filly’s wellbeing should be the priority. Megaera the Sunspear RE: Up in the air [open] - Erthë - 10-12-2015 Her worries were unfounded, it seemed. The filly relaxed and smiled shyly back as the adults replied to her query, one after the other. Pale orbs fixed upon Miykael when he, as the only one to offer any kind of positive response, gave her a bit of the information she had sought. "Magic, huh... What kind of magic? What does it do?" There was a longing, almost greedy tone to the young girl's voice as she eyed the paint. How she wished that she too possessed these extraordinary abilities. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to make the air crackle and sizzle with energy, to make fires and lights flare and dance across the sky? To make monsters and evil gods fall to their knees, and make the sick healthy again. Herbs were probably well and good, but in this magical world with magical maladies, they didn't count for much. On the subject of maladies, it seemed that suddenly the attention of everyone had turned to hers. Blinking back rather sheepishly as four pairs of eyes came to rest on her, Erthë thought about it for a while. It sure would be nice to get rid of the cough and the sniffling and the weird glow about things that appeared every now and then. While it was kinda neat to be able to see colors that weren't normally there, it was also beyond annoying to have that mucus rattle in the lungs. Tiring, debilitating... But then her gaze traveled to Nephele, and the filly smiled. "It's okay, I'm fine really" she said, only to have a horrible coughing fit contradict her words. "R-really though!" she insisted, once she was able to breathe again. "I'm already sick and it's not so bad, I can wait a bit longer. Heal Ne-fe-le first instead, so she can go to a herd and make a home and be happy too!" It wouldn't be fair to let a new person get sick when they just arrived, and as much as Erthë had been annoyed with the black mare for not being her mother, she appreciated the reassurance that her wings would grow. While it did feel a bit disappointing to give up a chance to be cured, it also made her feel mighty good and generous and helpful to give it to someone else. Mother would praise her if she'd heard her, for sure. e r t h ë
