Let's write our name in lightning among the stars
He had never been to a herd land that wasn't his before. Somehow the idea of it didn't appeal to him- there was so much to see where people didn't live, where there were no grown-up Sultans and Sultanas to tell him what to do and not do, so why would he willingly go somewhere with rules? Because where else was he supposed to go to find Isopia, and explain to her that everything was OK, and make sure they were still friends, and give her her new gift? He'd been working on it endlessly, for what felt like months, trying to find just the right rocks and metals and gems, to manipulate them into just the perfect shape. It had to be something that made sense for someone who liked to fly, small and light but still useful, that could move on its own but be carried too. In the days spent recovering the young engineer had focused all his excess energy on this conundrum, funneling frustration into the creation of his monster. In fact, he'd literally pulled off his own skin to do it. The result was pretty damned good. But was it good enough? Eventually the boy stopped, looking around uncertainly. Zero wasn't sure how far into the Falls he'd gotten, or even if he'd reached the Falls at all- and, he now realized, he had no idea how to find Iso even if he was in the Falls. Exasperation and aggravation filled his narrow chest, making him exhale loudly into the summer air. Why was this so hard? Why couldn't he just walk through this next little pack of trees and - bam! - stumble upon his very best friend, the same way he had that first day when they met? Because on that day there had been nothing between them, and now there were a hundred things, a thousand things, writhing and confusing and too deep for the boy to closely inspect. Because what Zero knew was that he'd chosen the comfort of his Ma over the defense of his friend, and what Zero didn't know was how much he'd hurt her in doing it. Iso'd been the one to give him the strength to jump, but Ma'd been the one to catch him when he fell, and he loved them both and hated them both at the same exact time, because couldn't they see that he was both? He was brave but also foolish, strong but also weak? Why did they have to fight to make him one or the other, and not let him be him? He sighed, and pushed this thought from his head. It was far more serious than Zero liked his thoughts to get, and today wasn't about serious and sadness. It was about proving to Iso that he was ok, and grateful, and sorry. So the boy walked on through the next patch of trees, because if she wasn't behind this one maybe she'd be behind the next, or the one after that, and he wouldn't stop looking until he'd peeked behind every tree in Helovia, sunbeam eyes and lightning heart eagerly seeking out his friend. Quickly, don't let them see you! "Ok!" Zero didn't stop to question the bird that talked in his best friend's voice. He followed her eagerly, but quietly, letting his questions bubble and fester and take hold. Where were they going? Why did they need to hide? Who were the them- did this land have sentries, or demons, or maybe it was only the birds? Zero hadn't seen anyone yet, but that didn't mean they hadn't seen him. Maybe he would get in trouble for being here after all, and Isopia was trying to save him from a dismal and desolate fate at the hooves of vengeful warlords who would seethe at seeing him, the son of a rival Gladiator, within their woods. Or maybe Iso was leading him to them, taking him to her leaders to await judgment- But this seemed very, very unlikely. Iso had never led him astray before, and Zero had no doubt that wherever they were going, it would be awesome. He stumbled as he ran, trying to keep up with his two winged guides while trapped on unfamiliar ground. A dragon! How cool was that? Zero had never seen a dragon, not a real one up close, and curiosity was clawing desperately at the underside of his brain. Was this what had been in the egg? Was it Iso's companion now? Was Iso happy to have a companion? Was the companion happy to have an Iso? And most importantly, perhaps- did the dragon have a name? His wing jostled painfully against his side as he ran, but the boy did not let himself slow. He hoped they were nearing their destination. He was beginning to think she wasn't mad at him, which was a good thing. He did not particularly want her to be mad at him, though he did still want to talk to her- talk about the fight, and the aftermath, and a lot of things he couldn't talk to Ma about but needed to say to someone. After all the questions, though, which threatened to spill from his lips like so many marbles, one after another (he knew that when he started he could not stop). adlsagh I hate this next one will be better @Isopia RE: just for a moment, let's be still - Isopia - 12-21-2015

Quickly, don't let them see you! The journey wasn't as long as he'd feared, though still a bit longer than his healing body really liked. Never the most co-ordinated of children, Zero stumbled his way behind Isopia, resolutely determined to keep pace despite his dismally short legs. He ignores the discomfort by listing the million questions and things he wants to say, running them over in his head- are you okay? Where are we going? How long have you been a bird? Can you be anything else? What's it like having a companion? What's your dragon's name? Are you mad? I'm a little mad maybe but mostly relieved? He almost didn't realize that she'd stop, and when he did he had to scramble to bring himself to a standstill without jostling his wing too hard. No luck.. For a moment little spikes of pain sent bright lights flickering in his eyes (would that ever get better?) and the boy groaned, shaking his head, trying to clear away the pain. When he opened them... well, let's just say his jaw hung slack for a minute as he struggled, amazed, to take everything in. I won't describe what he saw. You know all that. What I will tell you is that Zero's expression could only be described as a cross between stunned amazement and sheer awe, with curiosity and a little disbelief thrown in for good measure. He didn't here what Iso had to say about leads, didn't even really see as she changed from a bird back into a horse right in front of him (he was gonna have to ask her about that later). His attention was caught and held by the amazing home his friend had made herself, the craftsmanship and ingenuity of it all. "Wow!" the lightning boy Finally he turned to Isopia, sunbeam eyes filled up with delight. "Iso, is this where you live? This is so cool! What's that-" he gestured to the hut "An' tha- ouch!" In his enthusiasm he'd tried to gesture toward the tub with his wing, and the pain that ripped through him brought an ugly expression of agony streaking across his face. It also reminded him of why he was here, of what had happened, and his face fell slightly as he turned back to face his friend, just as she began to speak again. I didn't know if your Ma would let you. And there was the thing, right there, the part he didn't really want to talk about because he didn't really understand himself- because he wasn't mad at Ma for being mad, but Iso seemed to be. "No," he answered softly, brows furrowing across his small, dark face. "I mean- I didn't tell Ma I was comin'. But I- I mean she- she's not mad. Not at you. Not even at me, really..." he tapered off, struggling to compose his thoughts. This was harder than he expected, and he really just wanted to be knowing more about her magic and her companion and giving her the golem he made (where was Squishy anyway?). Why'd all this drama have to hang between them? Why'd she have to pick a fight with Ma? "I mean she was mad at me, but it was 'cus she was scared, I think, an' I mean I was scared too. It was kinda stupid-" and here he grinned sheepishly, looking up at his much larger friend with a mixture of embarrassment and angry self-deprecation. Did she understand? All he wanted was for her to forgive his Ma, and to forgive him, for taking the belief she'd placed in him and (literally) just falling on his face. And for her to know how much it meant. "Um... you believed in me, though, an', um, well, it means a lot an' you're a really good friend, Iso, an..." and he stopped, finally eloquent-ed-out, done trying to put complicated feelings into words- and stepped forward against her side, pressing himself against her and trying (fruitlessly) to wrap her up in a hug, his chin just reaching her withers, the sincere ferocity of it far more eloquent than anything else he may have said.
