A "dummy foal" is a developmental condition where the foal simply has not reached the development that is normally attained by the time a foal is born. Although usually a brief issue [lasts 2 seasons] it is still serious and shouldn't be ignored. A Dummy Foal’s biggest problem is that it does not understand the nursing process; will be hungry but may substitute water or other liquids for mares’ milk causing other nutritional issues.
