Another day of leaving Rein back home. Another day of aimless wandering. Another day of feeling like the earth was beginning to be sucked from beneath her hooves. She had thought the chains in the Meadow that Murtagh was kind enough to give to her after finding them would be a relief. Not a flashback from her past. She had hoped that they would be different. That they wouldn’t line her back in a graceful adorning fit for a queen like they had been. She felt a sour feeling ache deeply into her bones, whether from the winter’s bite or guilt, she couldn’t be sure. Yet each step she took was shakier than the last, leaving her alone in the Heavenly Fields despite her body wishing to carry her further away. Each step feeling heavier than the last. A cloud of fog snuffed out the sun from above, snow covered the earth in a blanket, and despite the chill all Rexanna could think of was her past. The cold couldn’t touch her in her thoughts, but a chill of a different kind surely would. Rexanna sunk to her knees first, her hind toppling after her. The golden chains crossing her back danced with such a movement that began to almost make her sick. She felt blinded in the sense she couldn’t remember where exactly she had ended up, but instead seemed to be repeating the steps she took before everything happened. Before Cal. Before the trials. Before the pain. Before the loss of her first child. A shiver ran deep beneath her spine. It was like she was watching it again, like he made her do with him as he watched. The Blood Prince. The future King of the North and the West. She remembered their first meeting vividly, almost as if she could reach out her nose and touch it. His orange eyes met her own blue ones, watching and waiting for her to mess up. And when she didn’t, a smile crossed his face as he laughed and walked away. A smile she used to love but learned to hate. She remembered his blood red feathers as he pulled them out before her, his wings wide and strong. Taking in her awed gaze with a chuckle. Before that day, the golden girl had never seen a Pegasus before. He simply just astounded her. And yet she disgusted him, in one of the worst ways she had ever felt since. She let the memories begin to blur together until it started over again. From the beginning to the end, blurring and beginning over and over again. Beginning at her conscription and ending at the point where he had given her those golden chains. Exactly like the ones she had been fighting to rid herself of for the fear of him finding her. But she had nothing to worry in Helovia, right? No one would recognize her here. No one had in the year that she had been here. And she had done many things! She wasn’t no longer the useless flaw, the lie. She was a Thief instead. Something she had been all along, hoping that perhaps that she would be able to make herself something one day. Back in her homeland, she never would have been anything other than a crowned slave. A glorified servant. Serving her Northern King in any way she could. Before he lied to her. Before he told her that she had been a princess and not a slave all along. Before he told her that she had killed her mother and was then shunned for it. Before he told her that she was his Before he threw her into ultimate danger like a used rag. She remembered the beginning again; being taken to the Kingdom of the West. Wide eyed and fascinated at the creatures that looked so much different than her home and yet still the same. When she reached the palace, she watched as the guards allowed her through, letting her azure gaze take in every sight in awe. She remembered him. And then it flashed forward again. A dark night, the two of them alone after she had spent a few moments longer than she should have, lingering in the halls of the Western lands. He moved from the shadows, the Blood Prince despite his height and muscular body seemed to move without a sound. He moved beside her, her golden pelt shying away from his touch, if it weren’t for the large striped wings he bore that pulled her in closer, she might have managed to escape the gift. Oh how she wished she could’ve seen it before. Now, she felt as though she should’ve known from that beginning meeting. Seen everything that had happened. But she was not gifted like that. Like them. He offered her a gift, and Rexanna was in no place as a yearling to deny a gift from a prince. So she accepted it, gracefully and thankfully. Not realizing that they would be the marking of the trade later on down the line. What she once believed to be a great gift, golden chains to adorn her already golden pelt, became her cage. She realized now that everything that he had done had been for a reason. Perhaps she hadn’t done enough to keep his rage from finding her. Perhaps she should have told him before he used his magic on her that she was carrying their child. Perhaps it would’ve made a difference. But what difference would it have made? She knew that nothing she could say would change his mind on anything. That much was sure when he told her that she had to pay for a price that she didn’t even know about. He told her how much she hurt him. How much pain she had given him. How much she had let him down. That she had upset him that badly to destroy their home. That it was all her fault, and she had to bear witness to it. Then she remembered that he had said he loved her. It struck a fiery chord within her breast. As Rexanna reached the ground, the icy tendrils dancing up to touch her legs, she felt her magic pulsing beneath her veins. Her golden horn glowing a red and orange as her blue gaze clouded by memories shut tightly, forcing back the tears that would line her exotic face like a treasure map. She tried to regulate her breathing, but solace didn’t come. Her fear of a creature she thought could be the man of her dreams was becoming more tangible with those damn golden chains that lined her frame. Rexanna pulled herself together enough to try and shake the chains away, trying to rid herself of a cage that she had willingly put herself back into. “I used to be his. "Talk." — I don’t love you, but I always will. @Calstron Preferred to be private for now :D and I'm thinking probably on her shoulder, nearer to her chest so it's visible ;D RE: Act III- A Surprise - Calstron - 03-23-2016

The slideshow continued until she heard the slight sound of hoofsteps. Her eyes opened, blue eyes swirling with a billion different emotions. Her sides heaving with surprisingly calm breaths as little clouds of air escaped through her nose into the heavy fogged atmosphere around her. Cream ears flitted to the sounds, twitching with the movement. The sound seemed heavy but graceful. Was it Tembovu? She lifted her head, then, trying to figure out if she should turn and speak with him. What did she have to say? What could she even say? She was drowning in her past just as he was with the reuniting with Kiuaji. And hadn’t that serpent told her to leave the Elephant King alone? Shouldn’t she listen? But it wouldn’t be wise to ignore the presence of a King, now was it? After all, she had spent much of her life serving her Kings to the best of her ability, whether it was home or here. She was always serving someone, learning over time that perhaps she wouldn’t be worth much more than that in itself. So she heaved a sigh, eyes closing again briefly as she tried to push the thoughts of the Bloody stallion away and instead think of the right words to even begin to speak with the Elephant King. Her lips moved into a frown briefly as her ears flattened. “Temb… I’m sorry.” She admitted, unsure of what events she had done that could get the most formal apology. Was it having a child with another? Or seemingly breaking his heart that she wasn’t who he wanted her to be? But it didn’t last long as the sound seemed to stop, Tembovu’s rough voice nowhere to be found. Instead, a slight push of wind against her pelt before she felt it. The pain ripped through her shoulder and her chest, searing a pain deep within her that seemed to ricochet against the walls of her golden cream pelt. She moved with the movement as well, rolling over her legs roughly and landing on her other side in the snow. Scarlet blood began to pour from the collision with the attackers hoof, a burning pounding sensation as the ice melted with the heat. Her eyes were shut tight, her breathing heavier, and her pulse dancing wildly against her chest. This was the last thing she expected. Tembovu would never hurt her, would he? She knew that she had done some terrible things to him, but nothing deserving of that kind of brutality. She did her best to push herself back, scrambling on her legs, trying to right herself against the pain of the blades of grass stabbing her wound as it pulsed. Rexanna felt a heavy head lower to her side, her eyes still shut unable to bear to look at the creature that had done such a thing. Especially if it was the Elephant King. However, the voice that whispered in her ear was something she hadn’t actually expected. She froze, eyes opening wide. So it wasn’t the Elephant King that had attacked her, but he was still a King nonetheless. And she knew exactly who it was. Her blood froze, her marking bleeding freely to stain her coat in her own colors. “You should have known better, my dear, than to let another mark your body. You are mine and mine alone. No matter how far you run, how long you hide, or who you fuck you will always be mine.” The words froze in her head, his breath ruffling her forelock before he kissed her head. She furrowed her brow, shock lining her mind making her incapable of understanding what exactly was going on. As he moved away from her, she scrambled to her feet again, head swinging in the direction she thought he had went in. He had grown since they had seen each other. Age wore on his pelt like a map, his wings were just as strong, powerful, and mesmerizing as they had once been to her. Yet instead of being awed by him, she was afraid. She moved on her feet, quickly, chasing after the shadow of the lost king. Blood pouring more strongly down her chest, covering her legs. Why she was chasing him, she couldn’t place. Perhaps it was a hope that this was all he wanted. That just a scar would be his only revenge? She knew better, but she couldn’t stop her legs from moving. She was angry and afraid, and still choosing to chase after a stallion who deemed her head as a trophy. “WAIT.” She called after him, pausing before the line of trees. Her chest pounding with the thick blood that stuck to her flesh now and the jagged “C” that bubbled with the blood clearly visible on her chest. “You don’t understand what you’re doing Cal. Why can’t you just let go?” Her voice came out as a desperate plea. She needed a reason, not like she didn’t have any other good ones. She wanted to hear it come from his lips. To see it for herself instead of when she heard it by word of mouth from his soldiers that chased her. She wanted to hear him tell her that he wanted her dead. That way she knew her worry would be in the right place. But then another thought struck the Thief. If he wanted her dead for so long, why didn’t he just do it then when he had the chance? He purposely missed to scar her with his name, his hooves, her blood. And then he kissed her. She shivered under the heat escaping her body from her wound, but her eyes were trained on the line of trees. Tears swimming beneath them but unable to fall, blue eyes worried and wondering all the same. “If you wanted me dead, you had your chance.” Her voice cracked to him as she shrunk away, pulling her head into her chest. Letting his chains move against her pelt with another shiver. Maybe he didn’t want her dead after all. Was it all a lie? Still the wound couldn’t be forgotten. He wanted to hurt her, show her the pain that she had given him. If only she was strong enough to return the favor. But she knew better than to pick fights with those more experienced than her. She had learned since then. She had given birth to another child since then. And she refused to birth another one of Calstron’s spawns into this godforsaken earth. So what did the Bloody Prince want with her now? "So why didn't you?" "Talk." — I don’t love you, but I always will. @Calstron HI MUSE. RE: Act III- A Surprise - Calstron - 04-08-2016

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. He wasn’t supposed to be here, and she wasn’t supposed to be feeling this way. But there wasn’t anything to help take that edge off. Her worst fears had come true, the stallion of her nightmares stood before her with a dark brooding presence – and yet when the beast turned around to face her, his orange eyes glinted with sadness and perhaps even regret. Rexanna had begun to forget about the crude “C” carved into her chest, forgetting the pulsating feeling as it bubbled and bled against her ivory pelt. Instead, her brows furrowed as she looked upon the bald faced man that she had admired once in her life. His words stung like knives – each one pushing deeper and deeper into her soul until she felt as though she would collapse. ”I loved you, Rexanna. I was good to you.” She flinched. But almost as if he knew what he had said, he covered it up. It was too much. I didn’t have any control over who my father was. You should’ve known that.” Her words rushed out, hushing to a mere whisper as she dropped her gaze from him, his endearing tone of voice even acknowledging her as “love”. As he paused, her broken blue gaze swept up from the icy undergrowth, looking for his orange flames, searching them with a curious gleam. He began to describe the setting of her miscarriage. She shivered beneath the words as he talked about the forest, how beautiful it was. How terrible it turned out to be. She breathed in a ragged breath, ears flitting backwards sharp against her exotic striped skull. She forced herself to take another step toward him, shakily and uncertain, but still she did so. “Cal, I would never kill a child. OUR child didn’t even have a chance for his first breath. All because of you.” She glared, her gaze hardening on his face until she spotted the golden strip that lined his ivory mane. Tears burned her eyes as she tore her eyes from him, recognizing the feather as the little plumes that had adorned their bloody golden son. The Thief withdrew into herself once more, enduring his harsh words without any hint of a rebounding argument. She flinched as he spoke of a new lover, remembering the trinity knot the Haruspex had painted upon her skin. She nodded to him then. “He knows.” She whispered. “But he’s not my lover” She began to hiss to him, hardening her gaze upon the icy blades of grass beneath her. She forced her head up, focusing her eyes onto him. And yet, she found nothing but the movement of bushes. She moved one step further, eyes lingering on the movement. “Regardless of what you think, I loved you and our son too.” She called out to him, anger and frustration bubbling on the brink of spilling over as her wound poured more blood and pulsated with her rapid heartbeat. He didn’t understand back then what she did. He didn’t know what it was like being absolutely nothing and being made and molded into something you weren’t. All for the pleasure of someone else. The King had done that to her, and despite how much she tried to refrain from the memory of what the new world felt like, she couldn’t help but remember the cage she was trapped in. A cage of golden jewels and silks, forced to portray a person she had never been. Forced to become someone that even the Thief couldn’t imagine being at one time. Oh, but how she could see it now. She remembered the markings of the stillborn colt, imagining how it would have been to stand beside Calstron’s side with him in tow. Would his parents have been upset? Would they have been pleased? The consistent blood pelt that his family was known for was hardly seen on the child’s pelt. Instead, it had been all her, and she had figured that perhaps once she had birthed the perfect heir for the throne, she would have been tossed aside as all the other toys Cal had. Not anymore, she didn’t want that to be her future. And she made it happen. Even still, Cal was here – In Helovia – and she began to feel whatever grasp on her life she had managed on the edge of the cliff begin to slip. She needed to pull herself together, to remember the person she had been when she was able to be faceless. It was a task, that was for sure. Especially when half of Helovia knew who she was. Rexanna only hoped that perhaps this wouldn’t be the end. As terrible as Cal was and had been, she couldn’t forget the fact that he had kissed her and told her that he had always loved her. Confusion spiked in her breast and she lowered her head like a broken animal, finally letting the tears overcome her and choke up whatever other words she could have called after the Bloody Prince. "Talk." — I don’t love you, but I always will. @Calstron |
