They say you're Irish, but your red hair isn't very bold.
There's leopards there isn't there? Or was it lions? Bears?

This is farfetched and sorta paranoid, but it is what it is.

He can summon a covering of armor from the magical collar along his neck. This could also be an egg reference.

She is a chestnut roan. Chestnut is sort of like faint red hair, and the roan spots are like freckles.

Ra, related to lions, once lead the throat. Ktulu and Eytan were once members. Pyr and Tingal are in the throat, but she has met neither of them, so no tigers as far as she knows. Could also be a reference to oz and the emerald city, which is clear in her coat color. The Emerald City also has a horse of many colors there that was always a bright color. Dorothy wandered through oz but was from kansas; an out of towner. Just as Xira was a wanderer for a while and not from the Throat.

She finds herself scared by herd-life and the idea of commitment to the Throat

The name Kiara is Irish, googling this brings this up a lot. She is also a red roan, and red hair is linked with the Irish. [name & color ref]

Googling appaloosa brings up constantly that is it is a 'leopard spot' pattern. Kiara is the name of a lion in the Lion king. Googling her name also brings this up. Leopards and lions seemed too obvious so included tigers and bears (as that one phrase goes) as fluff. [breed and name ref]
