As the meeting concluded, Ampere watched the herd disperse, lingering to answer any private things as needed. She'd finally, wearily, wandered off to bed and settled in for the first good rest she'd received in a long time, her alcohol untouched much to Kygo's approval. The little green parrot hadn't been sure how leadership would look on Ampere, not after everything they'd been through since his hatching, but he was hopeful that it was something good. It was for the night at least.

Come dawn Ampere and Kygo awoke with a yawn and routine of stretching. He flew off from her mane where he'd roosted to look for breakfast, favoring some of the little cactus fruits and prickly pears that were around this time of year. Ampere meanwhile went towards the Oasis, thirsty even in the morning hour when the heat was not extreme. Her mind was whirling with ideas for how to progress the herd, and unable to resist the itch she was intent to gather the sneaks and address some of the more immediate concerns.

Quietly the little blue mare worked to summon some sparks from the dirt around her, creating three small birds, similar enough to Kygo, that she sent out into the desert as a beacon to Volterra, Sunjata, and Ilios. It was a way she had long since summoned her warriors to her side when she'd reigned as Gladiator for seasons, but would anyone recognize it still? I am the lightning mare, she thinks rather assuredly, and settles in by the water's edge to wait.

"Volterra, Sunjata, Ilios... there's much we ought to discuss for the role of sneaks. Namely, the finding of Saoirse's lost mother and fellow herd-mate, Sabia."

he had been someone, before the fall.
Freshly promoted, Sunjata was excited to learn of what kind of things he’d be doing for the Throat. While it still was a new idea to him, calling this herd of strangers his family, he was beginning to find a purpose he never had before. Perhaps the blue bird was better off without his sister and her distractions, better off with a set goal and things to accomplish rather than waste away, waiting for the day he’d be crowned King in his home of Korofi. Things were new to him still, and growing more and more exciting.

He woke when the sun was just dawning over the horizon, cascading the sky in multiple beautiful colors. At first, he blinked against the sky, lifting a sand coated wing above his face and grumbling to himself to try and sleep once more. But suddenly, something bright and crackling had garnered his attention. His ears twitching with the sound, the light reflecting off his wings in a different manner than the sunrise had. He lowered his wing, preparing to yell at the thing waking him up, until he saw the lightning bird as it began to move away from him.

Curious, he wondered if it was a sign from Ampere. The electricity reminding him of when he had helped her clean up the beach before the realization of Kaos as he appeared. And well, if it was his lead calling, the man had better show up. After all, he had just been given this rank. He couldn’t toss it away now with a clean conscious. Quietly, he rose and shook the sand from his pelt, before following the electric bird to the Oasis. Sure enough, Ampere was there. As he approached, he dipped his head to her. “Good morning, Sultana. You look radiant today.” He grinned to her, his words laced with the thick accent of his homeland.

When Ampere mentioned what it was she had gathered them all for, his pale ears perked forward curiously. Would there be any more explanation? What did the mare look like that they needed to find? After a few more moments of silence and he cleared his throat, eyes dancing to all those around. “What does this woman look like?” He finally decided to ask.

"Talk."

HEROES ALWAYS GET REMEMBERED BUT YOU KNOW LEGENDS NEVER DIE

Of all the rank meetings, it is perhaps the Sneak one that Volterra dreads most. Warriors he adores, crafters, healers and wise ones he's ignorant of yet eager to learn, but thieves...he has spent his life abhorring them, and now he is about to consult with them. He can't deny the role that they play within the herd, but also can't help the niggling voice in his mind that tells him a warrior can do everything that a thief can and better.

All the same, he's beside Ampere the second the Mother of Companions makes clear her intentions. In the aftermath of the meeting he'd attended Victorina's birth, and there's a proud, fatherly glow about him as he marches alongside his Sultana. From the somewhat soppy, emotional side of watching a new child of his enter the world, it's now time for the cold, formal business of herd politics. Volterra accepts both parts of himself equally, and can switch between the two with relative ease. The authoritarian warlord that calls the sneak meeting is a whole different man to the one who lets his children tug on his ears and hide between his mammoth legs.

He watches Ampere's spark-creatures fly out to collect the sneaks, and grins to each as they arrive. He can't help but notice Sunjata's comment towards the Sultana, and it makes a frown dart across his muzzle because he knows those sort of comments. The titan is fond of the winged sneak, but he also can't fight off a frisson of jealousy as he wonders whether the two have dallied. It's truly none of his business if so, but still, a man can wonder....He tries to focus instead on Sunjata's question regarding Saoirse's missing mother, which is a task he's keen to throw himself bodily into. "She is a pegasus, middling height, with rose grey fur and a brown mane and tail. One of her ears is tattered, which should make her easy to spot." His frown deepens. "It is important that we find her, as her son needs his mother, and she is our sand-sister. I would advise gathering intel on whether she has moved into one of the other herds - whilst I doubt she would abandon us or her son for so long, it may help to rule it out before we search the rest of Helovia." And if she had abandoned her son by choice....he's not sure he wants her back in his herd.

Ampere looks towards Sunjata as he approaches, a broad grinning spreading across her lips as he proffers his flattery, his voice as alluring as ever. Minding her role in this meeting however Ampere doesn't honor him with a returned statement, though her gaze does linger longer than necessary before it flicks over to Volterra and quietly settles into business as he begins to speak about Sabia. She's oblivious to the Sultan's thoughts on her relationship with Sunjata, which is probably just as well. She'd already fallen for a Sultan once, she didn't need to get tangled up with another, not especially now that she had a taste for liquor.

With Ilios nowhere in sight, they focused their details on the sneak that was present. As Volterra explained, Ampere finished with a warning, "be careful." Ampere held Sunjata in her gaze, her worry earnest, if not slightly magnified due to her particular liking of him. "She's been gone so long I do fear something terrible, especially given our times. Your rank is one that often works alone, much as I hate the thought." He wouldn't have to be completely alone if Ilios would help him, but she knew theirs was very independent and secretive work, and if Sabia had gone to another herd, that would definitely require delicacy to learn such.

"Please make it your priority, whatever answer we eventually find, the boy at the very least has the right to know it." Ampere frowned, still unhappy with the situation, until a thought dawned upon her. She reached with her magic for one of the metal blades tucked away on her back, one of the few that never found someone worth being given to.

A gleaming dagger drifted forth and was laid at Sunjata's feet. "Take this blade, Issck. It will help defend you, and guide you." She smiled, but gestured towards the blade in the sand as she murmured, "speak the phrase 'the whatching shift goes ever on' and see." At the secret command (not so secret now that the WHATCH was no more, so she'd no worry with Volterra overhearing), the blade's surface shimmered and shifted, no longer reflecting the desert sky above them, but the burning of Helovia's heart. "It will show you nearby lands. Though the window is small and not always clear to see through, it's sibling blades have helped me a time or two." Ampere smirked, displaying Tuor, her own, matching blade that she would keep.

Ampere has given @Sunjata the dagger Issck if he accepts!

he had been someone, before the fall.
The blue bird hadn’t captured the frown that crossed Volterra’s face; nor would it have mattered much to the Korofi stallion if it had. Sunjata was simply playing with Ampere, through words and not actions, and even though Volterra was the Sultan, was it really his business who harmlessly flirted with who? Regardless, the man’s ears pricked forward as the warlord began to answer his question, though he felt the lingering eyes of Ampere, his feathers puffing slightly along his shoulders with the feeling.

Though, he nodded his pale head briefly as the information came through. Spotting a woman with that description should be easy enough – a torn ear and all that as well. He had to agree with the sentiments as well, knowing that if it was his mother he’d want to know what happened as well. “I will do my best.” He answered quietly before his pale head swiveled to Ampere as she began to speak. A small frown crossed his features as the words left her lips with the notable absence of Ilios.

He nodded to her as well, agreeing that he should know regardless, as he began to make his game plan. However, a gleaming item was suddenly at his feet and he peered down curiously at it, bright blue eyes admiring the precious weapon as Ampere explained what it did and how to activate it. Then, he grabbed it gingerly with his teeth, placing it comfortably within the wing band he had been gifted by the Turtle at the Giving Tree event.

His eyes soon found Ampere again as she smirked, showing the glimmering sibling blade of her own as Sunjata found a lopsided grin growing on his dark lips. “Thank you Sultana. I’m sure it will get a great amount of use.” A soft chuckle escaped his lips before a forgotten memory seemed to appear at the forefront of his mind. “Oh, and I got the key.” His voice left his lips slightly muffled as he reached into the plumes of his feathers and pulled out a Dragon’s Throat key that had belonged to Misael. Stepping forward to Ampere, he offered it to her, figuring she could find better use of the item than he could. “Misael’s key, that is.” His voice remained muffled, but he offered a proud smirk of his own.

"Talk."

Ampere's words of warning are prudent ones, he feels. By their very nature, thieves may not be versed in the art of defending themselves, leaving them as easy prey for anybody who might object to having their items stolen. Although Sunjata is only searching for a missing mare, he will need to be careful. In these times, when the threat of Kaos lurks around every corner, one cannot be too wary.

His ears perk up as the Mother of Companions offers a blade to the blue-marked stallion. It is a fine knife, with the ability to witness events in a different land. Curious despite his gut feeling that it's bordering on heresy to enchant an already magnificent blade with something not related to war, Volterra leans forward to peer at the weapon. Indeed, it displays a land that most certainly isn't the Throat, and the stallion retracts his head with his interest thoroughly piqued.

In return, Sunjata hands over the key he'd obtained from Misael. "Excellent," rumbles the beast. "I believe you and Ilios should make it a matter of high importance to reclaim the keys held by none-Throat members. We cannot take our security loosely in this day and age, and it does not sit well with me that there's people out there who can enter our home at will." If the sleuths fail to reclaim the keys then he's sure the warriors will be happy to lend their aid too, and even Volterra would be fine with taking back the keys by force himself. It's been too long since he dipped his hooves into a fight that actually meant something.

"Have you any suggestions for your role, Sunjata? Any ideas on what you think could improve the rank?" After all, this isn't just the leaders ordering the thieves around - they deserve an input too.
