A beach... Landed on a beach again. Another... Not the same...
The hot sun stood low and the only thing that kept the air from quiver was the warm wind coming in from the sea. Gulls sailed overhead, watching as the small mare walked slowly across the wet sand close to the water. They watched how her dappled fur was rugged and patched with dried dust and sweat, her thick mane and tail tangled with twigs and leaves. The white wings being dragged in the sand. But what did that matter, when they were dirty already?

She was tired and just wanted to rest. She was tired of constantly be on the move, to always avoid shade and keep track of the sun. The sun was sinking now... But she was tired! She wanted to sleep, but she could not. The sun was going down and she had to stay awake. She should not be out alone in the open, she should be up in the air. Hiding somewhere. Not being alone. But it would not matter... They had come in the open, in the air and from every hiding place. They had come even though everyone were together. In masses, they had come and everything... Gone...

She dropped to her knees and let out a hoarse call of surprise. She snorted at the sand and tried to lift her head, but a sudden slam of dizziness tipped her over on her side instead. It was warm. So warm and yet so strangely comfortable. The Island had often been too warm for her liking but this sand and wind were soothing. But only until her eyes wandered over the sky and once again noted the sinking sun. Cannot rest now... Heart pounding in her chest, eyes staring wildly at the burning orb and a front leg flailed weakly a couple of times in the air.

But she did not get up. Water rolled softly back and forth over her hooves and the sound tried to make her fall asleep. Day was for sleep, but she had not slept. She had kept moving somewhere. Why did I not sleep? It was too late now. Night was coming, they would come and she was not moving. She would fall asleep and they would find her and the sleep would be eternal. So tired... Everything hurts. Maybe she would find the others if she slept. She would love to meet them again.

She let out a sigh and through half opened eyes, she watched the ocean and the sunset. It was so beautiful and she might look so calm, had it not been for her ragged breath and inner panic over the coming night.

The flame-kissed pelt of the burly brute that was pacing the lengths of the sands. It reminded him so much of "home", this was the place that he would often come to for guidance in his own thoughts. So many plans he needed to calculate and figure out in his crown; the Edge was not a good place. After the disturbance that had occured before in his newly found home, he had come to the conclusion it was unsafe. The blazing heat from the heavens did not trouble Ricciardo, it was part of the package where salt water and sands were concerned. It was also comforting for him, the sun glowed against his sorrel pelt, and actually transformed him into the handsome brute that he almost wished he was. Having the looks was pretty handy when it came to finding a mate. He guessed that if he was ever to have one it would come after his schemes. Ranks were the goal. And he had only ambition.

Deep in his thoughts, he continued across the beach blindly and hardly paying attention. His tan daggers were dragging slightly in the warm, soft sand. Soon he was brought back to earth by something close; his sand coloured orbs focused in on a winged creature. He noticed it was laying down on its side, and the curiosity within him immediately set the pace, his pillars only the vehicle. Moving at some pace he strutted over to the creature, to find it was a dame.

Whilst she was lying down in what seemed like simply exhaustion, he investigated. Her appearence was one of petite size, with a clouded pelt that was being bleached by aging. Her wings were, unsurprisingly, magnificent alabaster ones that in proportion to her silhouette were fairly large. The silks of the stranger also alabaster - a good contrast to her pelt. She was a pretty little thing. He began to clear his throat in order to get the dame's attention, but soon decided to talk to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked in a soft, deep tone, his pools brimming with kindness towards the stranger. He was not one to make harsh judgments about other creatures, no matter if they were not of his own kind.

After leaving the small gathering of former Isilmeans, Osiris had pulled his composure back together. Comadre noticed sadly that the wolf hybrid had put on a steel mask to cover his true feelings which reeled within his mind with intensity. The dragon was sorrowful as well, but the black had found hope in the words of the mares. After all, pretty Ophelia had survived, as did the one called Smoke. Surely, what they said about others arriving at different times was true.

You can talk to me about it, Osiris, Comadre says to the wolf, who hobbles along behind him. "Shut up, Comadre," the wolf barks, glowering up at the small dark figure in the air with violet eyes. There was no time to talk about such a thing when every step was a painful limp. Luckily, Smoke had given them the direction toward healing, and he was certain that eventually this pain would be gone. Eventually he would be able to walk normally again, run, and fight. The shades had taken a lot from him, but he refused to bow his head to the injury with which he was left.

The pair had been traveling alone for a couple of days, the slow pace chaining them to move like slugs across this unfamiliar territory. Comadre was more and more convinced each hour that they were oh so close to the ocean, but Osiris knew that the salty tang of seawater would be in the air long before they would actually see the big blue. He had not yet gotten excited. Until, of course, Comadre gave him a hopeful report: I can hear waves in the distance, the dragons trills excitedly at his comment, looking back toward the tired wolf expectantly. The hybrid gives him a jagged smile of his wolven teeth.

With pep returned to his step, Osiris begins an awkward walk that is mainly taken on three feet to avoid further stress upon his injured paw. The pair make it quickly through the last leg of their journey to the sea, passing through the last of the trees and breaking into soft sand. Osiris smiles wide at Comadre, his golden eyes looking upward with excitement as the two make their way over the hill and toward the slope to the ocean. The smile falls from his face, though, when the eyes meet with the vision of two bodies along the shore.

"Vrrrrr," Comadre purrs sadly, as the gray body looks discarded like a corpse upon the sand. However, his violet eyes zoom in to reveal the movement of her chest - breathing, a heartbeat. Alive. Virva is alive. Osiris stand frozen, wind touching his mane and fur as the sun begins to sink, his heart dropping to his stomach momentarily until his breath catches up. Then, his eyes narrow toward the chestnut unicorn standing so closely to her.

Lifting his lame leg, Osiris begins a surprisingly coordinated three legged run down the beach, closing the gap between himself, Virva and the unicorn. When he is close enough he slows, returning on four paws to approach cautiously, limping slightly on his front leg. Comadre soars behind him, frightened to get to close to the unicorn who Osiris is glaring at with feral golden eyes. "Did you harm her?" he barks out at the stallion, fur rising on his back like the hackles of a dog, tail snapping with irritation.

Steps... Moving through the sand. Shadows? No. Their steps did not make sound. And the sun was still up. Someone living. Her honey eyes moved away from the sea to look into the air until the owner of the steps came into view. A larger stallion, no wings, a horn. Weariness and common sense hold her instinctual feelings off. This was not the time. She was not completely alone and the stallion seemed friendly enough, that was all that mattered.

"Tired, but cannot sleep. The sun is going down and they come with the night..." She began to answer his question, but the sound of more steps broker her off. In a couple of breaths, she tried to pick up a scent, but the warm breeze only took the salty smell of the sea with it. The second one approached fast and stopped close, speaking in a familiar voice.

Could it? No, she must be hearing things... But maybe still... Virva moved her head slightly over the sand to see the other one. To see him. And she saw Osiris standing there, looking so much like she remembered him. He had survived too. He had to. The sun was up, so this had to be the living. Panic started to fade from her eyes and her breathing calmed down. But she did not say anything. She was too overwhelmed by happiness and relief to get any words out. Everything was going to be alright. She was not alone and she was with someone she knew.

From the distance it was what appeared to be the bulk of a wolf, but as it rounded closer to the flame-kissed brute that was standing over the stranger dame, he thought otherwise. This thing was the strangest thing he had ever seen with his two pools; it bore paws and other features resembling the body of a wolf, yet was still an equine. He had a pelt that was also similar to a wolf; the ashen and yellow tint to it, and his orbs were also yellow. With teeth that were sharpened and ready for the kill, the mammoth beast stood above Ricciardo with some height to spare.
On his side was a little black dragon, barely a height in compare to the huge stranger. It was miniscule, but he knew not to underestimate it. The brute was now confronted with the fact that he could be seriously outnumbered by the pair.

Rounding back on himself to properly face the stranger, ears pinned back and evasive action that meant business fronted the silhouette of Ricciardo; he was ready for an attack if need be. He did not like the look of the creature one bit, and nor was he willing to accept any injury from his menacing knashers. The sorrel kept one eye on the weary dame, her breathing shallow from exhaustion and she still made no effort to redeem any strength regardless of what was getting ever closer.

The dame began to speak of some of reply to him, but it was muffled and he could not understand much. It was suddenly cut short by the appearence of the creature, and this made Ricciardo feel she was still down to earth and able to make what was around her. Right now he could feel no emotion towards the winged equine, she was the least of his problems. Now to round it off, he was confronted by a wolf/horse mix that had the reflexes of someone who would not back down, even if he was being proven wrong.

The question had come as a bit of a shock the brawny brute, he wondered how he could have ever been accused of something when he had only just arrived on the scene. "No, I mean no harm to her. I was merely tending to see if she was alright." Ricciardo held his guard, his sand coloured pools aimed straight at the newest stranger with a cold and guarded expression. His daggers dug deep into the hot sands, his stature poised with a certain proudness. He was embraced for a sudden attack, his horn at the forefront and ready to pierce the creature if necessary.

He was wary, Osiris could tell this much just by the tension held in the muscles of the chestnut.

The wolf's golden eyes stayed locked on his face, however, glowering from slightly squinted eye lids. The muscles of his face contorted to form a bearing of his teeth, a guttural growl barely held back in his throat as he stood in front of Virva, looking over her body toward this stranger with distrustful eyes and suspicious presence. Still, there was no apparent cruelty in the way he watched the pegasus mare, but certainly there was a small amount handed over to the hybrid.

However, Osiris had no time to worry about this stallion's opinion of him, the mare at his feet was what mattered. The throbbing ache of his infected leg fell away in those few seconds that his feral eyes stared at the chestnut unicorn, leaving his mind clear, his body ready to angle down and pounce over the mare in one fell swoop to end this one's life, or at least cause him hell for his crimes. When the unicorn began to speak, there was no dishonesty that could be detected on the surface. The wolf was left to believe his words.

The hair on his back began to slacken, making its way peaceful downward once his fears had been quelled that this stranger meant Virva harm. Comadre kept his purple eyes upon the chestnut body of the stallion, making sure even as Osiris's attention turned to Virva on the sand that no sudden movements would escape their attention. Having two sets of eyes was always better than one. "I see," he says, calmly, golden eyes dropping downward to see that the warm honey irises he remembered were directed toward him. A smile forms on his face, revealing a row of pointed teeth, but the expression was gentle and calm.

"I have never been happier to see you, Virva," he says quite frankly, golden eyes making quick rounds of her to determine the problem. The sweat caked on her body would tell him that she was likely dehydrated. Her lack of enthusiam screamed toward exhaustion. He reached his muzzle down gently to touch her neck, giving it an encouraging nudge. "We will find you water. Rest now."

Lifting his head, the hybrid turned his attention back to the other stallion, giving him a coarse look. "You," he says, not knowing this boy's name, nor really caring for it at the moment. "Are you aware of a place to find fresh water?"

Her mind started to pull itself together and her eyes wandered back and forth between the two stallions as they exchanged words. She noticed Osiris attitude towards the unicorn and she shook her head weakly as to say that he had done her no harm, but the Unicorn answered for himself and she was glad that Osiris accepted that.

She looked back at Osiris and returned his smile, still trying to find words. Of course she was happy to see him too and she hoped it showed. If not, she would have to tell him as soon as she got herself together. And she better hurry... While Osiris talked about water, the sinking sun caught Virva's attention again and she forced her head up from the so soft and warm sand.

"We cannot stay here, Osiris." Her dry throat and unfocused mind made the words hoarse and a bit unclear. She took a deep breath and tried to calm down, touching Osiris' cheek with her muzzle as he leaned over her. "The night is soon here, do you not see? Water will wait, we have to find shelter!" One front hoof swept over the sand a couple of times before it got hold of the ground and somehow, she managed to heave herself up in a kind of sitting position. With wings against the ground, she managed to hold herself up a bit better while she looked back and forth between the stallion again. How could they appear so calm at this hour?

As Ricciardo began to know the strangers by name, Osiris and Virva, he began to feel a little more at ease with them, particularly the wolf-like creature. Osiris did not know his name, and this did not seem to matter when he was asking about water. It was relief to the flame-kissed beast that Osiris had believed the true words that he had uttered to him. Of course he had not harmed the winged dame, there was no need to do. After all, they were not in the Edge, where it would be seen as trespass.

He began to think of the places that stored water fit for drinking. Although he had not yet explored the majority of the wilds of Helovia, he knew from whispers that there were streams and rivers in certain places. To be of a help to the pair, he replied to the wolf-like brute about the places he knew of: "Is it not wise to cross the borders of the herds, but there is fresh water in the Deep Forest and Thistle Meadow." His orbs were warming to almost friendliness, and slight concern for the winged dame was apparent.

The flame-kissed beast then saw Virva attempt to move, she heaved herself up and steadied herself on her wings in an upright sitting position. At least she was a bit more with it. And then she began to utter such mad things: The night is soon here, do you not see? Was she insane? It was common knowledge that some predators lurked the lands at night, but there was no reason to be utterly terrified of them if you could protect yourself. Ricciardo wondered what it was that the vixen was scared of, he did not understand. On the shores there was nothing to run from, he scanned the area with his sandy pools and concluded it a safe place to be.

Feeling bold, he asked. Ricciardo felt he needed to know more about what it was that Virva was so scared of, and why Osiris would know. "There is nothing here to be afraid of, why are you frightened, Virva?" His tone was not menacing or indeed rude, it was out of simple curiosity and tainted with friendliness towards the pair.

The young mare, after helping Osiris and his family to the Foothills, had gone straight to the ocean to make sure that her new friend was all right. She had spent the entire journey worrying about his safety and health with his injury, but he seemed intent on her taking his family to the mountains; so she obeyed. Ophelia had aged to a full two years of age during her journey, but she found her birthday to be an event which should not burden anyone else.

Brilliantly white and crimson and with a joyful heart, she danced across the sand the moment her cloven hooves made purchase. Her two colored eyes took in the beauty of the ocean, and it reminded her of home. She could not remember feeling this happy, and she had to question why. Was it Osiris? She had dearly missed him, more than she realized until he had returned. Comadre had lightened her mood considerably, and she felt attached to Osiris.

Even though he did not recognize her at first, he seemed to find happiness with her presence too once he did. She recalled the situation perfectly and thought that she might be reading too much into her emotions, but she had never gotten the opportunity before to experience her own feelings. After a life of kidnappings, war, shades, and violence, she could, for once, be a little foolish with her own emotions.

Osiris was easy to spy on the beach, the wind ruffling his thick fur, and a unicorn she had not seen before was there was well. What were they looking at? Their backs were facing her, so she slowed to a walk and cautiously approached. There lay a grey pegasus, exactly the mare he had been speaking of earlier. "I have never been happier to see you, Virva."

The emotional high came crashing down around her ears like an earthquake would fell a mountain, and she stopped in her tracks. Her heart seemed to tear and sink into her toes, and a thick knot rose in her throat. A burning settled behind her eyes, but she did not cry. She was a fool. A complete fool. Why would she think that such a brave and unique stallion would be interested in a child like herself?

In an instant, the mare disappeared, using the magic of a sleuth become invisible to their eyes. Osiris should not have to see her like this, not when even forcing happiness for him would be impossible. Instead, she turned and walked away, the only sign of her appearance the cloven hoofprints in the sand.

Comadre’s eyes catch a glint of white as his eyes tear away from the face of Ricciardo. Scanning the horizon with violets, the little dragon can see nothing that he had thought was present in the distance. The white beacon, like a mast of a great ship in his peripherals, was lost in the short time he had taken to turn his head. However, the little black was certain he had seen something. Lifting off of the wolf’s shoulder, the dragon scans the beach from a higher vantage, small wings pushing lightly through the air as he looks in the direction he could have sworn there was something. Hoof prints in the sand were upon one knell, and the faint scent of Ophelia drifted across the salty tang of the air.

The little dragon coos sadly, but his bonded is too distracted at the moment to notice.

As the words spoken to the unicorn stallion left Osiris’s mouth, Virva’s limbs set into motion. The hybrid was automatically wary of her movement, edging back to allow her more room to maneuver, while listening to the panic in her voice. The chestnut stallion seemed ultimately confused, so the wolf assumed he had never been to the cursed land of Isilme. Golden eyes dart sharply back to the gray mare, even as she comes to sit in an awkward position, her eyes of honey wide with fright. Though the other stallion had been helpful enough to answer Osiris’s question, the immediate problem was not water - it was steeling Virva’s nerves.

Ease your mind, Virva,” Osiris says gently, falling in beside her and dropping his head so that they were eye level. “The shadows do not lurk in these lands, and the night will only bring predators of the natural kind.” He lets a gruff smile tug at his lips before looking back to the stallion, who had asked a question that the hybrid had frankly expected. It was not normal for the night to bring such terror to full grown individuals. His face is stoic, but his words have a sharp hint of foreboding in them as he speaks of the land of the night.

We are from a land overrun by the dead,” he says evenly, but the words echo with the wariness that should come with ghosts. “She fears the shadow creatures that attacked during the night, their bodies like dark blades.” Osiris places a gentle nudge on Virva’s shoulder, his attention being stolen by the gray mare once more, even as Comadre soars back down to land in the sand near the trio of equids. The dragon makes a strange chriping noise before nudging Osiris’s injured leg.

Before we can see to her, we must clean your injury. Gray lady said so. The purple eyes of the dragon glint in challenge at his much larger bonded.

The Unicorn seemed clueless and Virva stared at him until Osiris eyes caught her attention, then she stared at him instead. The panicked breathes started to slow down as his words sunk in. No shadows... No living dead to haunt the night? There was nothing else she could do but to trust him, and the sudden relief left her dizzy and reminded of her weariness. She staggered a bit to the side with her front, but managed to keep her awkward sitting position.

Everything started to calm down slowly and she kept her eyes half closed, smiling slightly at Osiris' nudge on her shoulder and half listened to the stallions. Though her head snapped up a bit by another movement, but the instant, second long scared feeling faded again when she realized it was just Comadre landing in the sand. Virva stretched out her muzzle towards him and managed a low nicker as a greeting. It was then she noticed she was not the only one in a more or less bad shape.

"Your leg?" Her head was lifted and turned towards Osiris once again. They did not have to stand around trying to watch over her; Osiris needed help too! The short mare tried to struggle to her feet so she could walk over and have a closer look at the wolf's injured leg. However, she became sitting once again after barely gotten her hind up from the sand and sighed at herself. So instead of fussing over Osiris directly, she turned to the Unicorn. "Can you help in any way?" The question was rather polite and Virva had made sure it would not come out as too rude. The unicorn could be of some use, after all. No need to be impolite.

The Sandman.

The flame-kissed brute saw something out of the corner of his eye, a sweeping, glistening bleached pelt, but before he could focus on the creature it was gone. Confused and in bewilderment at the entire situation that he was faced with, he turned back to the duo. Virva's stirring gave the Sandman some relief to his concerned-riddled body, his mass feeling soft against the slight breeze that was picking up the salt tainted land. With his shoulders cooling down from their tense posture, he listened closely to what it was that the other two had to say. The wolf/equine that was Osiris had also been distracted ever so slightly by the fleeting glimpse of the unknown creature, his companion even more so. But then he was brought back to the attention of Ricciardo.

Listening intently, his orbs grew wide at the sound of the dead walking. It was unspeakable, unnatural! Instantly he threw his lobes back against his head as instinct would make him do. With a gruff voice, he spat in confusion and even fright,
The dead? It sounds like you two had a miracle sent to you," his voice then softened, as he realised what the pair must have gone through in their previous homeland. It was something that the flame-kissed beast would never experience in his wildest dreams. At least he had the sense not to feel the need to prove the walking dead's existence by visiting this dreadful place, "I hope you can be safe here." His orbs were softening too, and they looked from the wolf-life brute to the clouded duchess. Then, he fixed his gaze onto the horizon before being brought back to attention from his nightmares by Virva.

Can you help in any way at all? Her words were fast but not rude. They were a call out of desperation for her and Osiris to be treated. Not being a medic, he felt helpless to physically heal them, but he quickly thought about what other alternatives there could be, and what help he could give to them. With hesitation, his mind struck a small idea. Thinking back to earlier in their conversation, Osiris had spoken of wanting to find water. Like any creature with common sense, Ricciardo knew that wounds had to be clean for them to have any hope of healing without secondary infections. Branching out his neck and giving it a quick shake, he then proceeded to tell the two of his not genius idea, but one that could be of help to them. "I'm afraid I do not know of any medics, but I can take you to Thistle Meadow, for fresh water, he paused, looking at each of them and then continuing, "I know I can't be much use to you, but perhaps if you have fresh water to drink and for your wounds, you may be on the mend in no time." His words were clear, apologetic, and kind. In a way he almost felt like he was warming to the strangers that were quickly becoming acquaintances.

Virva's nose pokes closely at Comadre, and the dragon chirps excitedly, stretching out his own reptilian face to touch hers, while reaching forth with clawed limbs to gently hug her face, assuring that his sharp talons keep from scratching the surface. A strange purring noise rises from his larynx as the dragon coos softly, before attempting the mare's name once more with strange, pointed lips. "Vrrrrahh," he says quietly before tugging away, his attention returned once more to the wolf with a serious glint in his normally playful violet eyes.

The wolf glares downward at his bonded for drawing attention to his oozing wound, giving the dragon all the little black needed to hear in one accusing stare. The small reptile held his ground against the massive hybrid, though, looking up with expectant eyes at the hard eyes of gold, until Virva spoke and broke the tension between them. First, Virva had been worried about the onslaught of the shades, but now her worry was directed right at the stallion, who stood awkwardly with most of his weight on his stronger limbs. His face turns toward her, trying to feign innocence, like he had no idea what she spoke of, what leg? What injury? It was no use, however, as Comadre saw straight through his bonded's plan and takes a sharp talon to poke his swollen leg, causing the hybrid to let out a sharp barking noise from his throat as he turns his face back downward.

"Comadre!" he yells, his gruff voice twisted in an angry tone. The dragon, already chirping mischeviously, flys off to hover over the waves, calling out toward his bonded. Come, Osiris. Salt water in your wound. We'll do as blue lady says. The wolf sighs, aggravated, before turning his attention to the other two who spoke to each other in what seemed like rushed tones of urgency. The hybrid does not like this, the attention being turned to him. The wolf had been traveling for months with an injured leg, there was no cause for alarm now, when Virva obviously needed water and rest. Instead, her energy was being wasted upon him. This simply would not do. "Enough," Osiris says tiredly, golden eyes looking gruffly at the chestnut unicorn.

"Guide her to the river to get fresh water," he says, his tone one of a command, but open enough to sound kind, even with the rough texture of his voice. "Comadre and I have been instructed on what to do about my wound." Osiris turns warm eyes over toward the gray pegasus and speaks to her in a quieter, softer voice. "We will find you in this meadow soon. If we do not meet, Comadre and I will be heading toward the Foothills next to see my family."

With a heavy sigh of fatigue, Virva gathered her legs and got herself into a standing position. Just by lying down a bit, she had gathered enough energy to at least stand and walk to this meadow the Unicorn talked about. It seemed to be no use arguing with Osiris about his injuries and she had to realize that there was nothing she could do anyway. "If we do not, I will find some calm place to rest for a while. Either you find me, or I find you when I am strong enough to travel around again." She replied to Osiris and gave his neck a nudge with her muzzle before turning to the Unicorn.

"Well then. Lead the way to this meadow." Carefully, she takes a few steps forward to test her legs. They felt week and unsteady, but the wings would help her keep balance. Hopefully it would not be a too long walk to the meadow, but on the other way, she had to get to the fresh water and the pony-stubbornness would probably kick in to get her over there.

"Look after him now." She said, looking at Comadre with a smile. "You both be careful." Now when she had found them again (or been found by them) it would be terrible if they all were to disappear from each other once more. Splitting up like this right away was hard enough, but they both needed to tend to their injuries and that in different locations. But they would meed again. Positive thinking now; it was important.
