In this world, there are those who strive to level the playing field - those who would combat every instantiation of evil, with some small amount of good, if only to say that they tried. There are the Gods: 4 siblings, temperately balancing each other out - maintaining the status quo for the most part. There are also the demi-gods, to balance them, and so on and so forth, down the lowliest dandelion, who really doesn't do much good either way. Even so, these checks and balances are everywhere, but every now and then, something happens. Something is beckoned forth from Gods know where, known only as The Interrupter.

And what does it do? For which side does it lend itself? Well, you're about to find out.

Come one, come allllllllllll! Step right up for a game of chance. No one in this life chooses what gifts they are born with, and so those gifts won't matter now. Just come right up, ladies and germs, and simply pick!

The Interrupter had created a crude table, out of some dead grass and a stump. Clearly the creature, who was rather androgynous, and so we shall call it an it, didn't particularly care much about the decor. It moved - nay, hovered - above the ground, with unseen feet dangling below its long black cloak. If the heat of the Tallsun sun in any way effected it, it wasn't obvious. The alabaster face stared back, shiny and smooth, without a hint of perspiration or even emotion. The face, while smiling, looked dead. A husk, hiding whatever was truly underneath the mask and robe. Only the eyes, deep and black, seemed to hold life. But...not of the sort that sustained you. No, no. Whatever kept this thing alive, was far different.

With a cackle, it bound around the table three times, and with each pass, unseen hands darted forward from the folds in the robes (more-like tentacles really), and placed fragile glass baubles onto the dead grass on the stump. Each bauble was a different color, and consistency. Some looked like they held things inside - a marble perhaps - while others were perfectly opaque. Some rolled around, as if of their own accord, while others remained firmly in place, as if quite heavy. More still, begun to hover in the air, while a few began to fade, as if winking out of existence. In total, there were easily 15 or so, in various positions on or about, the makeshift table.

"Wellllllllll?" The Interrupter hissed.
"CHOOOOOSE!"

Sore and aching from a rather nasty fall while climbing a loosely-pebbled hill, a strawberry and cream fae appears on the scene with visage pulled into a grimace and knees scraped. It's an unfamiliar place for her, the Heavenly Fields, but to her it was worth the fall that had happened not far from the flowered field, if only so she could gaze upon its beauty. Hotaru did not usually value beauty, especially after having been subjected to the vanity of her mother and sister, but it was something she could at least appreciate. And if her heart twinged and ached at the memory of her family...well, nobody was around to see it.

Or perhaps she was wrong, for there were no mists shrouding the tall peak, the dry grasses kissing and tickling her ankles as she hesitantly moved forth into the pale sun-baked greenery on snowy hooves. There is nothing to shroud her gaze in the summer heat, and so she watched in shock as something shrouded and black black black with a face of porcelain, cracked and misused in its somehow seeming perfection, drifted about on the emerald carpet like a death wish. Before the strange creature, jovial face haunting and strained, lies a rudimentary table. Hotaru cannot contain her curiosity, though her stomach feels foul, as if telling her there is something wrong wrong wrong about this...thing. Person. Creature. She does not know what to call it, but doesn't want to offend it, even if it cannot peer into her thoughts.

It goes around like a phantom, whatever it uses as supporting pillars not touching the dehydrated blades beneath it. Picking up orbs and depositing them all around, cackling like a harpy, and it sends shivers down her spine like claws raking down her skin. And when he is finished he screeches out happily, bidding them- them? Are there any others joining her today?- to come and...pick? One of the orbs?

Hotaru remembers her last encounter with these eggs, when she had not made it in time, and she still hates herself for it today. But this isn't going to hold her back, so she slowly advances over the hard sun-baked earth, eyes moving naturally to alight upon one on instinct. Hotaru often found going with her gut was best, her heart as others called in the phrase. Overthinking things never did her any good, in her experience.

Treading onward, she cannot help but flick her dual-colored eyes at the weird shadowed beckoner, curious. But she is fearful of him, in a strange sense of course because she does not fear him simultaneously? It is all a jumble in her head, as if her body recognizes some sort of power from him, but her stubborn pride scoffs and says he is nothing. Is it even a he? Shaking her crown minutely, Hotaru turned and continued striding towards her choice- it was opaque and wiggled around as if so incredibly excited to just do something. It was awfully cute, for something that was still technically an object. Standing opposite the masked creature, she halts next to the eerily altar-ish table, and looks down at her choice in interest. "I choose this one."

She was denied in the Griffin drop, but I believe it doesn't count since I posted late ^^

Also is this a common/plain/royal? ._. I couldn't find it, was just curious.

Will you still love me
When I'm no longer young and beautiful
I know you will

She's drifting on the breeze, her thoughts tangled up in the wind like the mane on her nape. She's been doing a lot of thinking lately, a dangerous act for one so accustomed to action, but she's had little choice. Her actions have not wrought the change she desired, and without Taz or Zar around to explain her faults, she was nearly blind to them. Only the bruises she wore gave her some inclination that her methods were not being well received.

The chaos of her mind spun away as she shook it off, wings slapping the air forcefully to keep her steady. The tilting of her head lent her view to the shimmering items below, causing a rigidness to fill her body, as if in the moments just after death. She knew what those glittering things were.

Lives, about to be lost!

In a morose panic Ampere dropped from the sky, angling to come in with a hasty, but calculated landing before the table. There was already another horse there, perusing over the crudely constructed shelf and its display as if he were carefully selecting the choice fruit off a tree instead of a creature's life. His arrogance stole her breath away, but her anger returned it just as swiftly as her eyes coasted over the countless lives stored for view.

Ampere had enough. Wasting no time to act - thinking hadn't gotten her anywhere faster - Ampere roared out, "NO!", seconds after her hooves had touched the ground. Her haunches coiled with strength just before she shot forward, her forehooves striking out, aiming to land upon the center of the table while her wings unfurled and billowed at her sides, hastily set to flapping in an attempt to blow the orbs and the grass creation away.
Around her the foliage began to crackle and spark, her high-running emotions causing the organic matter to manifest as pure, electrical energy. If her physical efforts failed, perhaps her magical ones would do the trick and cause this shop to burst into lightning.

It was then Ampere's gaze, as furious as the raw energy swarming around her, rose and set upon the shop keeper itself. A certain dread collected in her gut, like a snake coiled on the side of the road. A witch her thoughts whispered, her hide prickling in warning. Ampere had her share of witches in the past and she certainly wanted no more of them. Something told her she hadn't made a friend in this one. Too late now.

"YOU WILL NOT CAGE A LIFE TODAY!" she bellowed at the witch all the same, her path of destruction already set. She couldn't turn back now, but she would not stay, not with it. Abruptly Ampere broke off to her left, towards Hotaru. Her neck reached down, lips peeling back as she tried to grab a stray orb before galloping off.
If nothing else perhaps she could save just the one life.

Damnit her mind chastised amid the chaos, wishing she'd bothered to assess the situation better before overturning tables. This is why she'd reverted to thinking.

You're high as fuck and don't know where the hell you are. Way to go, champ. You think you remember walking up a winding mountain path a while back but the thought is as fleeting as clouds on a hot summer day. You grasp for it, trying to hold it in place, but it flows away. There is no containing that which is not tangible. And so you're once again left confused about why you are here at all. You try to take a deep breath but the air seems too thin to really give you a good level of oxygen. Your breathing comes quicker, a side effect of both oxygen deprivation and the drugs.

Giving up on figuring out where you are, you resign yourself to stumbling about gracelessly, looking for a way down. You're luck you're interrupted by some activity. You would surely die if you tried to take the path down now. Whether its a drug induced hallucination or reality is lost on you, though you can't imagine why you'd be hallucinating the blue pegasus. She was rather an odd being, electric at that, and you're annoyed to notice that she's busy setting all the plant life to sparking again. Last time she did this you're drug stash was rather damaged and you were not pleased.

Dancing agitatedly, throwing your head into the air and rearing up with a scream, you watch as she throws herself downwards towards the table and the unsuspecting trio that are there. The chaos that ensues is incredible. Orbs go rolling off, the grasses on the table are upturned and there is a rather melodramatic display of the girl shouting. You're still not sure what to make of her. In some ways you find her interesting, intriguing. In other ways you find her absolutely and undoubtedly insane. Not that you have much to talk about. For a moment you consider asking her to join the Asylum, but now doesn't seem the time.

Your volatile display ends and you land all four hooves back on the ground with a heavy thud. Because you're rather certain you are hallucinating, the odd creature that is floating above the ground doesn't concern you very much. After all, since when did an illusion ever cause an physical pain. Unsure of what the blue girl was talking about, you make your way towards the messy remnants of the display that the creature had set up. The little blue grabbed one of the orbs, so you will to. Instantly, you are drawn one that is a particularly enticing shade of 'your drugs' green. When you grab it in your mouth it is solid and heavy and the feeling is strange. Giving a passing glance to the odd creature, you lay your ears back and then promptly fall to your ass. At least you've still got your orb.

Figures moved ahead sending a twinge of anxiety through the white fae's veins stilling her momentum. Raising her head as her ears perked forward she could hear the sound of voices from the group, one of which sounded oddly familiar. A table seemed to be fashioned out of something before them with odd little objects resting, wait no they were floating? Surely something had to be holding them up, they couldn't be floating could they? In any other world she would be inclined to think that they could not be floating but from what she had experienced since coming to Helovia was things were not always as they appeared. Coming from a world of typical normalcy so to say things such as magic, unicorns and pegasus were never mentioned nevermind existed. Well she sure had discovered that everything she had once believed was a complete lie, why couldn't things just float around in the air? It was just such a normal occurance after all.

Curiosity tempted the mare forward towards the creature mastering the table and somehow controlling the objects before him as sure enough they floated above the table. Casting a sideways glance to the three other equine that stood around her, she wondered if they were seeing the same thing she was. A sharp jolt took her as the familiar features of the blue mare locked upon her gaze bringing back the not so pleasant memories of their rather recent encounter within the threshold. The sting of the electricity upon her flesh was still fresh in her mind as was the mild burn upon her skin. It was not anything major or nasty just a simple abrasion mottling the appearance of her shoulder slightly until it heals over. No blood came from the injury just the stinging pain as per typical but the memory would last a lot longer. Thankfully the mare seemed to be otherwise preoccupied with the objects hopefully not paying her any mind. The other horses seemed bemused with the objects as well, maybe that would mean her presence here wouldn't be a bad thing.

Refocusing her blue eyes back to the objects she watched as the others followed the instructions given to choose an orb of their choice. Should she give into her temptation for once and allow herself to take a small risk, or should she just walk away? One object in particular interested her more than the others, whether it be the shape, size or the unique colour that drew her she found herself motioning to it with a nod of her head. "I chose that one." She said softly as she tilted her head slightly to try and get a different angle of the object. Slowly she reached out and between gentle lips she picked up the delicate orb being extra careful not to break or harm it. Taking a step back she looked around before settling the orb into the lush grass between her front feet ensuring to plant her hooves carefully around the object as if protecting it from some unknown force. She would not allow the others to take her chosen orb, it was hers and no one else's.

:: THE DECISION ::
Congratulations to AMPERE
Decision Roll

Laughter erupted from the creature - and when I say erupted, I literally do mean in the sense that it seemed to spew forth from no apparent source. The air crackled with its odd hysterical laughing, as each chose an orb. The creature didn't seem particularly annoyed that Ampere had grabbed an orb and run off, nor that the largish stallion was grabbing one as well. 'Choose' ... 'Grab one with your big slobbery teeth' ...eh. Same thing.

With a clap of its tentacled limbs, a shattering sound resonated into the air, causing the majority of the orbs to break, save for 4. The orbs that Hotaru, Brisa and Oxy had claimed as their own, suddenly turned into snakes, writhing and hissing furiously. Their fangs snapped together ominously as they tried to slither away into the grasses. The snake now in Oxy's mouth wriggled furiously, it's jaws trying to bite his nose if possible, to force him to let it go.

The orb that Ampere held however, did not break, nor turn into a snake. Instead, it began to warm and glow from within. The colour began to morph into a kaleidoscope of changing hues, as it grew steadily larger, and larger. Eventually, the blue mare would be forced to put it down (and hopefully gently). The Interrupter's devilish laughter began once again, as it watched the snakes slither away and the shards of empty orbs begin to scatter off the make-shift table, but of course our attention is focused upon Ampere, and what she will do now.

The orb - now distinctly looking more like a sphere of pure energy, rather than something that could be gripped between one's teeth - began to wobble and expand faster. Much the same way a chick would try and break from an egg, there was clearly something within trying to get out.

[The RE will continue with Ampere. Others are free to continue to post, but there will be no set posting order - Ampere and RE posts will take priority]

Will you still love me
When I'm no longer young and beautiful
I know you will

As she ran her heartbeat deafened out the sound of her rumbling gait, but she still heard the massive thunderclap of noise from behind her. She spared a blue look over her shoulder, the chaos behind her only specks of insanity now, but she knew enough. Her hooves struck out harder, her limbs stretching with more gusto to consume the land and place distance between her and that devilish slave-driver.

Too late.

As her speed began to whip around her sides Ampere's wings began to unfurl and coax the wind at her sides into submission, but a warmth from within caused her to pause. With a slowness that she nearly didn't notice, the orb in her mouth changed, its colors, warmth and size bursting until it nearly gagged her. In a mild-state of panic this did not help, but Ampere could not continue with it. Jerking to a stop, her ass bumping the soil and her wings jerking at her sides, she slid to a halt. With a certain, gentle haste, Ampere's mouth lunged to the ground and deposited the orb, which she now recognized to be behaving differently. The storm in her chest continued to rage as her pulse hummed beneath her flesh.

Warily Ampere began to back away from the orb, her eyes wild with white as she eyed the thing, snorting. A trick her mind hissed, this is no companion!
Fucking witches.

She had half a mind to stomp on t as it began to wiggle and wriggle, but some rational aprt of her feared that would release whatever voodoo was conjuring inside. Instead her gaze stabbed around the landscape, searching for anything she could grab. Working furiously Ampere began to yank out weeds and stones, heaving them ontop of the orb sphere, uselessly it should be noted as most of the objects were knocked off by the sphere's movement. Meanwhile her forehooves tried to carve out the land to bury the despicable ruse. "No, no you STAY IN THERE!"

Sweat beaded on her nape, paranoid looks thrown over her back to ensure the demon was not hot on her heels.

Throughout it all, a small voice in her consciousness pleaded for her to be aware it was a companion. She had never hatched one, had never seen a hatching. She knew nothing of what to expect, or how to react. Could her soul even reject the creature, or was it a doomed connection? If she fled the area, would it help?
Evangeline's words rung true in her mind - what did she really know about companions? Not everything, certainly, but neither did she, or anyone for that matter. There had to be a way to nurse the life without enslaving it.

Torleik
A lone man loved by none:

How long can he live?

Chancing upon this event was such an impossible boon that Torleik could scarcely believe his luck. Had the gods seen fit to cease rejecting him and offer this as a consolation? Ampere, the selected creature to take care of a new companion...

How horrifically hilarious.

On his back, Irelyn sent a confused querying emotion through their bond, and Torleik snorted. That blue one with wings? She wanted to take you from me. She thought I wasn't good for you. That you would become a slave to me. The haughty indignant irritation that poured through their link was amusing to him. Irelyn was quite happy with her arrangement, with the calmness of Torleik's mind and the bond between them a constant safety net for her as she grew and discovered the world.

No.

Hearing the word surprised him, and Torleik glanced at his owl griffin, her tiny little voice feminine and touched with an accent unlike his. Interesting. How did that work? Pushing that thought aside, he grinned at her. She had spoken her first word!

She is wrong and misguided, Irelyn, he agreed. And you are growing quickly - I am proud of you for speaking, he offered gently, the abiding pleasure in her progress clearly glowing in soft pulses through their mental link. The griffin ruffled her feathers proudly and gave him an avian smile, settling comfortably into her nest and focusing on the events around the two of them curiously.

Torleik did so as well, watching Ampere with a distinct feeling of distaste. "Not so simple when it's yours, is it?" he asked coldly. "When it hatches, what will you do? Abandon it? Surely you cannot keep and care for it, as that would be enslaving it, would it not?" His words were sharp at blades, his displeasure heavily evident.

As you try to get yourself out of the mess you've made, falling to the ground and all, you miss much of the other commotion that has been going on. However, if you were struggling to rise, your troubles disappear as the thing behind you explodes with a cackling sound that might have been called laughter except for that it sounded so decrepit, you can't imagine the thing making the noise is even alive anymore. Too bad that you've got new troubles. glass shatters all around you and you buck out in fright, amplified by the fact that you've suddenly got a snake in your mouth instead of a glass ball. Instinct takes over and you clamp down viciously on the thing. Wrong choice- the snake gets a solid bite of your nose, sending blood readily down your green-stained muzzle and you open your mouth to drop it. It falls down, dead or alive you hardly notice, as you begin rubbing your nose along your leg to alleviate some of the pain. Unfortunately, you don't manage to do much except smear dirt into your cut and blood onto your dirty legs.

Its a strange flurry of blue wings, dust and grass torn from it's roots far off in the distance that finally distracts you from your foolishness. Interested, if only because you rather don't like the little blue and are eager to cause her any trouble you can, you force your oafish body into a canter and head her way, eventually slowing to a trot a little distance off, to watch. As you come even closer, you eventually choose to halt, leaving the little blue plenty of room to have her strange shouting fit. For a moment you considering going closer, shoving against the little blue or her oddly morphing orb, but in the end your decision is made for you. A brute with twin horns, though rather unlike your own, approaches, appropriately mocking the girl for you. Instead, you just sway with the rhythm of your drugs, content to watch the girl's meltdown. You're sure you'll be able to take advantage of this later.
