One more home. She knew the routine well. Edge to Threshold, find friend, Threshold to Edge, welcome to Edge. All-in-all, it wasn't too bad. She actually like the work. It gave her something to do when she would otherwise have nothing. And it was always better for the silly girl to stay active, because otherwise she ended up wandering around the Edge and blabbering everyone's ear off about nonsense they probably didn't give one care about. Except Res. Resplendence would always listen to her, no matter what sort of craziness she wanted to talk about. That was why Resplendence was her best friend. Forever.

Of course, the same sort of thing she usually avoided doing to her herdmates, she was now doing to poor Fig. Having stopped by the river on their way by, Kahlua was now gaily chatting away about every sort of nonsense imaginable. The time she tripped over that rock, the time she met so-and-so over just past that tree, about the Qian and their search for peace, about Mirage and Lace, about Kaj (was there a little something extra behind her tone when she talked of the warrior stallion?). All this, assuming that little Fig hadn't stopped her by now, or walked away from pure frustration at the whole thing.

But, in time, and probably to the delight of Fig's ears, the glass wall came into view, and Kahlua's chattering stopped as she started to smile. “This is our border!” she offered brightly, turning to try and catch the eye of the tree-filly that she was becoming reasonably more comfortable with by the moment. “I made the wall,” she said matter-of-factly. “Do you like it?!” Perhaps she was bragging a little, but it was more like excitement at the whole thing. Every memory she had of it, even the moments when she thought her body might drop of pure exhaustion, were happy ones. She had served her herd well, and they repaid her kindnesses that she could not imagine.

All the while, she continued moving towards the little slit in the doorway that would let her in, from outside to inside, to welcome this darling little Fig into the Edge, to meet the trees they had spoken of. Not that there was any lack of trees outside the border.

@[Fig]- I tried really hard to be Australian for two seconds with my title <3 <3 <3

The sociable mare’s light-hearted banter was a welcome relief from the conflict of their previous conversation; that which had brought upon each, feelings of mass confusion and general disharmony. Fig was pleased too, that she was required to share little else besides the trivial ‘yes’, ‘no’, and other fitting phrases to keep Kahlua chatting merrily. Throughout the journey she learned many things, all seemingly helpful to the young Lignea’s assignment initially- so it was absorbed readily; every name, every landmark and maybe more so than the rest, that which was explained about the clan called the Qian. It appeared Mirage and Lace shared a common desire with Fig, to spread peace and manage the world’s equilibrium (even if some who strived beneath their leadership were still struggling to understand the laws of nature. Although her perspective was possibly skewed; her eyes oblivious to the true perils no doubt lining the path into her future, and her heart still bending with the lore of her kin, the filly found herself less and less intimidated by all that surrounded her as the minutes breezed by. She listened with quiet intrigue too about the steed named Kaj, and picked up the note of preference lingering so subtly behind the rambling tone- perhaps this alien, Helovian, would be an ally also.

They paused by a lean river whose waters were not so sweet as the crystal waters of Prim'sylvia which stemmed from the purest subterranean channels, unmarred by any force lingering by the earth’s crust. Fig drank her fill graciously though, and made sure to comment on its freshness because back home, water was the lifeblood of the land- the Lignea never grazed nor foraged because to do so would be horrid cannibalism; it was unheard of.

Soon enough their travel began to slow, and while Fig had been most appreciative of the easy pace offered by the painted mare, she was more than delighted to stop and recover some breath. Life beneath a tree, shrub or even bed of lush posies required serenity and stillness, and it was not favoured by her race to trek such vast distances because of the weight they were born to shoulder; that, and also few left the location of their Soul-Plant their entire lives. The great glass wall which rose before them was unlike anything the filly had before laid her mellow green eyes upon. She drew a breath as she forced her face to lift as high as the arc of her thick crest would allow, and saw that it was quite a beautiful and spectacular landmark.

Kahlua smiled then and explained about the wall; that it distinguished the border to the Edge of the World (Fig tried her hardest to peer behind the glary obstacle to find that point where all manner of life should simply fall away), and that she herself had constructed it. “Yes, it’s quite amazing...” she answered, unable to keep the awe from her wavering voice- but she also asked, as though she might have misinterpreted, “You made this yourself?” Eyes which had settled upon the forthcoming expression of her company, searched for some explanation which might help her better to understand what was meant. “Amazing...” She sighed again, beneath her breath though. The Lignea were naturalists, she was certain the elders had never before seen a phenomenon like this.

Passing through the small doorway- which Fig missed upon her first examination of the structure, the little filly felt a nervous tremble prickle the ebony hide canvassing her lean frame; so too did the foliage riding above ripple, though only at the stroke of wind which slipped between the glass-framed opening with them. For the briefest of moments she turned to eye the passageway, wondering with narrowing eyes if she would still fit as her Body-Plant neared maturity. She shrugged the concern away as a world of lush pasture, and woody clusters of primordial trees opened before her- blinking, Fig reminded herself that this was Helovia, no matter how much like Prim'sylvia it felt.

Resplendence
come and watch over me like the pale moonlight

Resplendence had been scavenging around the Edge for more herbs to add to her collection. It would be beneficial, after all, if she had a larger collection than just what was growing in her herb garden, and she knew that she hadn't gathered every possible herb that was within these glass walls.

So, she had gone on an adventure, and was halfway across the lands when she began to trail along the glass wall, seeing if she could find any other plants thriving near the temperate crystal. But, it wasn't an herb she found that was thriving in these lands. No. It was horse - to be more specific, a horse with a tree growing upon her back. Resplendence inched closer, though still loomed behind a few trees as she took in the creature with awe upon her face. The mare looked young, gangly - not more than two years old if even that. But, she still held the appearance that she might form into a thick and sturdy draft. Of course, if Resplendence had needed to carry a tree with her then she would need to be sturdy as well. And, upon the black mare's back is a sapling with the features of... what was it... perhaps a fig? It definitely was not a willow or pine tree, that was for sure.

Uncertainly, the claybank moved from the shadows with a smile upon her maw. The only hint that she was uncomfortable with the creations Kahlua kept managing to find and bring here was in the deepest depths of her golden orbs. "Hello, friend. Kahlua." She started, giving a light bow of her head before looking back up at the two who were just inside the wall. "I am Resplendence, certain it will be a pleasure to get to know you if you have come with Kahlua," She offers, flicking her one ear so that it was perked up, hair shifting in the wind as it blew around them.

When I'm ready to fall
You're the one always holding me up
With love

It was a curious thing, to comment so kindly on the waters, but Kahlua was not astute, not concerned enough to think that such things were odd. She never noticed that the filly did not eat, did not bother to ask her if she was hungry. But perhaps, though their rocky start, they could begin to be friends. It would only make sense. More importantly, Kahlua began to think, this filly with the tree on her back could be friends with Resplendence, whose name she had not failed to mention on their trip here. After all, it wouldn't do to forget your best friend. Not that Kahlua would ever forget Res anyway. Res had saved her life too many times.

You made this yourself? “Well, not entirely by myself,” she said sheepishly, with a laugh. “Mirage cleared the way, Destrier plowed the ground, Xanthos and Dragomir gathered and removed the brush, twigs and others were there, helping when they could.” She paused a moment, her eyes staring into the distance as she remembered the month she had spent building the monstrous creation. It had exhausting, she had collapsed at the end and slept forever, but it had all been worth it in the end. They had made something beauitful. “But by the grace of Lady Moon, I crafted the glass.” She finished, with a punctual nod.

Of course, just on time as always, Resplendence appeared from the woods, doing whatever it was she did when Kahlua wasn't pestering her or trying to spend more time with her. It was like she knew Kahlua had been thinking of her, the way she managed to appear from the mists. “Res!” she called out brilliantly, bobbing her head and bouncing her way closer to the mare. “This is my doctor friend I was telling you about,” she offered with a turn of her head to Fig, any thought of their initially awkward meeting gone from her head. The more time she spent with the tree-woman, the less she seemed like a filly and the more she seemed like a mare already.

Fig was in tune with the world around her; she felt the shifting equilibrium as easily as the turning of her own moods. The muffled tread of weight upon soil; the swish of grass around striding limbs, both would ordinarily have drawn the clever creature’s attention, but the mare who lurked behind a hedge of trees evaded the swivel of sensitive cupped satellites and the rove of watchful, moss-tinged eyes.

While Kahlua elaborated on the walls building, and all that had helped her plight to make it standing, another passed through the shadows- or rather out from the shadows, a seemingly pale mare dusted with curious lacing all the way along her sun-drenched pelt. Her legs were bathed in parched desert brown- a terrain that did not appeal overly to the filly’s young Body-Plant, and Fig shuddered as the stray thought slipped through her conscience. More curiously still (and she tried not stare), the horse held only one ear upon her poll; and as she drew nearer the young Lignea felt quite certain that it had not just been swamped by the flood of marvellously lavish mane gathered across the length of her crest.

Kahlua called out suddenly- that bold abandon reignited, and Fig was taken aback but the sudden flush of movement by her rather sedate side. The tree atop her spine rattled uncomfortably as the filly balked, but all composure was rapidly regained as the painted mare and the stranger met through a deluge of fondness- they exchanged greetings like the rainforest welcomes the pale dawn, and caught up in the pleasantness of it all, the Filly too smiled along. The one-eared mare introduced herself as Resplendence and Fig nodded appreciatively, pleased that this beginning seemed so much easier than that shared with Kahlua.

“Yes, Resplendence,” She replied after the black and white mare had revealed that this was in fact the friend she had spoken so warmly about- she wasn’t quite comfortable enough to shorten the doctor’s title the same way though. “I have come with Kahlua.” Fig was going to add from whence she had travelled, but keen not to confuse the situation like before, she held her tongue for the better. “So nice to meet you.”
