d'Artagnan

The frost clung to his glass horn and completely froze the stub that
was once as murderous as the other. His war hardened muscles rippled
with scars littered across a mahogany pelt, black mane laced his neck
along with a midnight flag of hair that flowed out from his hind. Not
one white marking blemished this stag; his plain appearance enhanced
his right blue eye which saw all around him. d’Artagnan was bored. He
hadn’t had something exciting or thrilling to do in a while and his
blood was beginning to ache.

The grassy pasture was pleasant on his un-worked legs as he walked to
the edge of the cliff, cloven hooves stopped just before the edge.
d’Art leaned his head over the side and allowed the sea air to caress
his face, heights never really bothered him. Only a total idiot would
manage to tumble from such a height and the stallion felt more lordly
when up this high. He liked to feel lordly. Of course Seiren would
always tell him his fantasies were delusional and belonged to those of
a colt, d’Artagnan didn’t care for Seiren. He hated her. He hated the
she, a mare, was favoured over him. Being the elder brother d’Artagnan
had always fumed at this, the red stag had made a mistake once. It
cost him his title and it lost him his herd.

d’Artagnan didn’t care. His strength surpassed most, his skill was
deadly and his thoughts crude and malicious. No, he didn’t care for
those who never had time for him. They would pay; his glass spear
would silence their insolence.

[Open. Seeking invite to herd.]

Mauja the FrostHeart

King.

He certainly liked the sound of it, he thought as he walked through
the land that now belonged to him. King Mauja. His speckled muzzle
pulled into a grin and he shook out his mane. He couldn't wait to see
Psyche again and inform her of it. The Plague would now have a place
to call home. A herd to hide themselves in rather than being an
outcast band for all of Helovia to see and plot against. They would
now be able to make their movements in the shadows and no one would
know until it was too late. But the best thing of all was that Sir
would now have to call him King.

A deep chuckle rumbled in the stallion's chest. He could already
imagine the sour look on the mare's face. He flicked his tail and
shifted into a trot. His blue eyes scanned over every inch of his land
as he patrolled it. Naturally, he would have to stumble upon someone
he didn't know. Someone that would disrupt his routine. Mauja altered
his course and headed toward the stallion that stood so precariously
on the edge.

One little push would be all it took.

"Hello there." His voice was pleasant as he spoke to the unknown
stallion. Unicorn stallion, he noted. "Welcome to the World's Edge,
brother." His tail flicked as he walked closer. "Might I assume you're
here looking for a place to call home?"

Another approached from behind and d’Art moved back from the edge,
just in case he got any ideas about testing the distance from the top
to bottom. Turning he noted a large looking stallion had appeared, his
pelt pure white with spots and a white spiral horn which was frosted.
His icy appearance made him think of Seiren for a moment, the mare
could call upon hail storms to do her bidding but she’d yet to gain
full control of it and often hurt herself in the process. Idiotic
mare, the red stallion thought, he had no magic and his warrior skills
deemed he needed none to win a fight. d’Artagnan thought the stallion
looked like the Frostfall season but in horse form and rather admired
the physical strength he seemed to possess.

The king spoke to him kindly and d’Art began to rather like the
creature before him. “Ahh hello brother, you assume right. I’ve been
travelling around for a while now and would like a place to recover
and regain my former strength” he’d lost a little condition after the
fight in the Tides. The stag was so used to constant work and training
that wandering round this new world hadn’t been the same vigorous
workout. “My name is d’Artagnan, the son of a war lord. I hope I will
be of great service to you” he raised his head applying allowing his
mismatched eyes to look at Mauja.

Mauja the Frostheart

Mauja noted how the other stallion sensed his arrival and backed away
from the edge. Smart boy. His tail flicked against his legs as he
stood there, watching the red one. When he turned his blue eyes
flickered up to the horn that sat atop the stallion's head then to the
nub of the broken one. Such a pity for a unicorn's crown to be broken.
It made Mauja's lips twitch into a frown. He certainly hoped the one
that had broken it had paid the price for such an atrocity.

"The son of a warlord." Mauja repeated the stallion, that slight frown
turning to a smile. This one could possibly be another candidate for
The Plague, but before Mauja introduced him to it he needed to know
the other's opinion on Equines and Pegasi and their place in the
world.

"I do believe we can offer you a place among our ranks." He smiled
again. "There is something I must ask you before I allow you entry
into my herd." His smile grew. "What is your position on the equine
and pegasus race living equally among unicorns?" His head tilted
slightly as he waited for d'Artagnan to answer.

d'Artagnan

d’Artagnan observed the other stallion before him. Mauja’s gaze had
glanced over d’Art’s wounded glass crown, the mahogany stag knew he
must be wondering how it happened. His own opinion towards his
battered weapon wasn’t one of pain but a memory. That day his pride
was obliterated, it had taken more than 4 years to regain his total
vigour and ability, although now d’Artagnan felt he was a lot stronger
now he was into the peak of his days. Whatever Mauja thought about it
wouldn’t matter to him, the stallion was sure he could prove his
prowess on the battlefield.

As the other spoke he noticed the joy on his face reach new levels.
Yes, he was the son of a war lord, d'Artagnan however was not fond of
that war sire and thought himself the superior now. The question he
asked was an odd one but maybe not as surprising as d’Artagnan first
thought it to be. Moving forwards, d’Art walked up to face the
stallion, his smile mirroring the frosty Mauja’s "Why would one want
to mix such filth with our pure blooded race?! Nay brother, there is
only one superior race and that title belongs to us. The unicorns”
d’Artagnan’s smile stayed where it was as something Mauja said had
d’Art’s cogs turning. "Entry in your herd? I assume I’m addressing a
leader amongst us then? If so, then apologies if my ignorance of your
rank insulted you in anyway” the red stallion didn’t think he’d said
anything disrespectful, but there was no harm in showing willingness
to keep ones place within a herd.

"Why would one want to mix such filth with our pure blooded race?! Nay
brother, there is only one superior race and that title belongs to us.
The unicorns."

Oh, it was as if the gods themselves had sent this one to him. Mauja
could not be more pleased with the other stud's answer to his
question. He was weary of the ones who would do anything for peace,
including lowering themselves to living among those of the lesser
races. Then there were the ones that bred with them. The ones that
helped bring forth mixed blooded filth that was good for little more
than good for Helovia's carnivores.

"Brother, your words are like music to my ears." Mauja said before
grinning widely. "And yes, I am Mauja the King of the World's Edge. It
would be my honor to welcome you among the ranks." His tail twitched
as he regarded the stallion again. His views would certainly make him
fit into the ranks of The Plague, as well.

"Before we leave this spot I would like to also talk to you about a
group that resides within the World's Edge. A secret society, if you
will." His ears tilted forward and he stepped closed to d'Artagnan.
"With your views you will fit in well. What say you?"

’Art watched as his reply pleased the great white stallion before him.
Ahh yes! Here is a unicorn with strength. Mauja’s apparent glee warmed
the red stag further to him and when he was welcomed to the ranks
d’Artagnan felt a ripple of relief and excitement at the prospect of
this new herd. With the right ideals and values, the unicorn would be
superior once again. He shivered in anticipation.

When the other stag confirmed his rank d’Art was a little taken aback
by the title. So I’ve managed to stumble across the King! I knew there
was something about him d’Artagnan bobbed his head in acknowledgement.
He saw strength in Mauja and d’Art knew the race was in good hands
under his lead. The stallion continued to speak and he listened as
Mauja mentioned a secret society that would support his own views.
This could only mean that this society was for the dominance of
unicorns and maybe even wiping out the others. d’Arts’ ears tweaked
with interest as the white king finished with a question. "I’m glad my
views please you, my king. This society you speak off appeals to me,
if it aids our kind to their rightful place I will gladly commit
myself to such a group” if what d’Artagnan was thinking was right then
he’d be more than happy to join.
