What used to be was no more but even if the lithe shade were afraid
there was nothing on her face to tell the tale. Change wasn’t bad. The
actions that provoked such a daunting change [the past] were
malicious. They clawed and scraped the comfort of her life, sent her
hurtling into uncertainty, and left scars that would never completely
heal. She couldn’t dwell. She couldn’t allow fear of uncertainty choke
her into submission and paralyze her. She had to embrace the newest
chapter in her life, leave the sweet dead where they rest and walk
amongst the living again.

Exhaustion lingered in her joints as she sauntered on. A light film of
sweat peppered her raven black coat. The silken strands of her mane
and tail were bedraggled though her refined beauty was present beneath
the filth. She moved with graceful prowess obscured by the pallid rays
of the moon as they lavished her dark body. Her blush eyes casually
brushed the terrain for something of interest as she found herself
yearning for something she didn’t often have desire for; company.

O' the night was chilly and bit at her sensitive flesh! She was much
more inclined to a warmer climate and by the involuntary rippling of
her skin she knew her body was too. The delicate creature had a hope
that she could become accustomed to the nip and cold over time… if she
intended to stay. That had yet to be determined. Again that rather
startling feeling of anticipation washed over her as she waited
beneath the bows of a naked tree. Creatures of life as they lived and
breathed, with blood pulsating hot and fast within their veins, would
be upon her soon. With them they would bring warmth. They would bring
fire... and she would bask in it to heat the cockles of her cold heart
if only for a while.

Seiren

A dainty shadow moved between the trees, cloven hooves so silent as
she crept across the deathly cold ground with ever alert black luster
eyes. The little arab mare had scented a newcomer in the Threshold
whilst searching for her conniving brother whose head was soldered
into the top of her hit list. She was rather annoyed at this point
that the scent she had managed to pick up in the end was not that of
her brother, although traces of him were still around but so often too
faint for even the likes of her to follow. A deep thumbing echoed
about her head as the vein that started from her red and black target
which proceeded up her coal midnight horn pulsed with thick revengeful
blood. She would get that snide pitiful demon, who so despised her...
One day. This time, Seiren wasn't going to miss her mark.

Upon nearing the new scent, Seiren immediately turned 'it' into a mare
who was of her own kind, even in darkness her eyes were like a hawks.
She lived and breathed on the edge of a knife, if her senses were
anything less she'd surely be dead by now. The grey's heart sank, but
only for a little while as the prospect of a good murder slowly
fluttered away into the dank cold along with all the hopes of finding
d'Artagnan. Sighing, she altered her path to approach the mare from
behind and to take advantage of the darkness. Seiren had no intention
of hurting her own, this was just a force of habit that pushed her
take this route. Like the silent fog that sometimes slithered in to
plague the earth, Seiren swiftly turned on her heel and faced the
mares behind. "Are you lost?" her voice rang like a haunting bell that
chimed ominously into the night, a sadistic smile accompanied it.

The stoic haunt of her eyes shifted to her right as she heard the
bushes rustling quietly but it wasn't her side she needed to worry
for. The arrival of the other unicorn didn't come as a shock though
the raven shade would have much preferred a head on greeting. Youth
made her strong and resilient like a sapling. She was able to snap
back after being knocked down quickly, efficiently, and even send back
a crippling counterattack in her defence. To put it bluntly... she
wasn't prey. However the approach had disgruntled her the slender mare
didn't advocate the emotion on her face. Instead she swung her head
around with deliberate slowness to peer at her visitor; grey with an
odd marking on her face and a black horn (much like her own). Ever
passive-aggressive the black mare decided she was nothing spectacular,
nothing she should fret over. Worrying only caused wrinkles that she
didn't fancy or need.

A slender black ear twitched in the grey's direction as she addressed
her... was she lost? She took a moment to survey her dim surroundings
before returning her attention to the mare. "I think to be lost I
would have to be trying to find a destination." The tone of her voice
was surprisingly light, airy even. It was clandestine about her morbid
fascination of death, and ruin, and normal despite her surely skewed
personality. "Hmm I'm not lost... I suppose you could say I'm
exploring, my sweet."

It was then the shadowy woman turned to face the other mare. Her head
tilted to the side thoughtfully as she drank in her petite figure with
a mixture of skepticism and appreciation. "You're rather pretty aren't
you? O' yes you are! How lucky for me! I do enjoy to look at something
nice while I converse. What is your name, my dear? Mine is Umbra."
Ever so enthused to speak it reverberated in her dainty voice. She'd
been alone for far too long hadn't she?

Seiren cocked her head to one side as the mare spoke; she truly was a
beautiful specimen with a shining black coat with a gracious horn to
go with it. A little bit like Psyche yet so different. The grey
lowered her stance to signify she meant to harm to her own kin, her
eyes still held that slippery haunted look however. She regarded the
mare now, "Exploring? Lost? Isn’t it the same? One does not have to be
going somewhere to be lost" she laughed in a spooky bliss and began to
walk forwards.

Cloven hooves echoing as they caressed the dead earth allowed the
little Arab to glide in her typical silent style. The night air had a
bite to it that Seiren found compelling, her own fantastical ability
to summon the cold hails boded well in weather like this. Too bad this
mare wasn’t an equine or a pegasus; it’d be nice to shake the dust off
the power that had been collecting for a while now.

“I’m glad my appearance pleases… it is a great ally to me” her last
words hung on the air as they held many undertones to them. Gullible
stallions were her favourite prey, so easy to seduce and easier to end
their frail life. Their blood plus many others tainted this mare, yet
she was not concerned. It was like breathing to Seiren now. Stopping
just in front of the dark mare, she looked into her odd pink coloured
eyes “Hmmm exploring? I know a land you’d love to explore, full of all
our kind. Would you like me to take you there, Umbra?" She was being
genuine now, well she had been genuine from the first time she spoke.
It was hard to know what this mare was thinking, so used to guarding
her thoughts she now didn’t know how to let that barrier go.

Looking at the mare, Seiren found her rather fascinating. She clearly
sensed there was a little more to this mare than the simple light air
that her voice portrayed. White hairs flicked up towards the moon as
Seiren shifted her head, “Seiren is my name.”

[ooc; Sorry hunnie for my lateness. Busy can't even describe it.]

The colour red would look smashing on this one. Yes, it would
compliment her pallid complexion nicely if it were slathered on in
copious amounts. Paint or blood would do. Umbra allowed a tinkling
giggle to slip smoothly, like butter, from her throat. "Our kind." The
black shade affirmed with a tilt of her head, pondering the subtle
hints of appreciation in Seiren's voice as she spoke of the unicorn
populace. Was she prejudiced, she wondered? It seemed that many Umbra
had stumbled across shared narrow-minded views of species' that were
not their own. She on the other hand, could care less. Whether they
were horned or hornless, winged or plucked chickens, they all bled red
the same when sliced.

Umbra allowed a smile to slither onto her dark lips. "I quite like our
kind." She amended, an answer without a clear meaning but an answer
all the same. ”You think them better than other kinds?” Simple
curiosity innocent in its’ right to inquire morphed the contours of
the slender mare’s face. Eagerly, Umbra leaned closer to Seiren as she
closed the distance between them – as though the black shade were a
child enthused to have precious secrets shared with her.

Her narrow ears swiveled forwards as her nostrils flared to beseech
the other’s unique aroma. Earthy. She was earthy like a dense forest
teeming with life but also death. An undeniable hint of decomposing
leaves clung to her dexterous bodice and sent a shiver of delight
creepy-crawling down her spine. ”I think I would like you to take me
there… I think I may like the benefits of companionship.” Umbra said
at last as she indulged herself in brushing her muzzle, almost
sensually, against Seiren’s right shoulder. ’I’d like to reap them.’
