What was that? You snap your head to the right as a twig snaps. All you see is thick foliage. The scenery is beautiful. Green trees offer the perfect amount of cool shade. When leaves fail to cover a spot, a golden ray of sunshine glitters down to the ground, illuminating that spot and anything standing there. Your golden eyes look to your hooves. It is a twig. Realizing you are the thing that snapped the thin brown stick, you relax and continue your day as normal.

Normal is not the correct word. Your day has been crazy, but so has every other day. You had run from Th'orqui with your guard, never actually reaching the proper corner to hide in. Basically, your nursemaid hadn't made it out of the main part of the territory. As for your guard, he made it with you past your designated hiding spot. He made it with you almost out of the border (by accident. He really meant to take you to the correct spot) He randomly died of illness and now you are alone. You've been searching for home, but can't find it. Hence why, you've stumbled upon helovia.

You're gold body glimmers in the pale moonlight that filters through the trees. You know some horses prefer the dark night-time or sunset; but you, for various reasons, enjoy the warm daytime and sunrise. You like when the cream colored sun warms your chilled back during colder days. Plus, the darkness is a great camouflage cloak for monsters and other things to hide in, before attacking you. Hence why you like the daytime.

But I'm an adult now. I do not believe in such stereotypical nightmares as nighttime monsters.

The darkness however was the time I had decided to go to the Threshold. Why I did not know. It was crazy to be on my own and somewhere so dangerous in the dark. After all there was a darkness taking over lands.. How would I know I was safe really at all at night? Well, there was the shine that still seemed to come from my coat. Not even my mane and tail tangled anymore. All the more reason for me to favor the God of the Sun. Maybe next time I would go and just seek his presence... Maybe, just maybe ask for a mark of his own upon my coat... One to truely show which God I was loyal too.

The only downside to my extra clean coat.... Everyone seemed to be able to find me, always. Specially if I tried to keep Sakura occupied with hide and seek... She wins everytime now... Ugh. Ah well. Only then did I see her. A mare, maybe close to my brother's age? Maybe my own too... Not really sure. All I knew was that she seemed lost and the Threshold was not the place to be lost. "Hello, Miss. Are you alright? You really shouldn't be wandering out here all alone. It's not safe." I paused a moment before plunging on. "I'm Azale Moniet of World's Edge, but please call me Azale.. What's your name?" Had to know her name at least didn't I? To not ask would just be, well rude... After all, she did look kind like someone in the herd, though I don't know his name.... Eh, it doesn't really matter. It's not like they could be family or anything right?

Not safe was an understatement. While Gaucho hadn't seen any wraiths in this part of the territory, that certainly didn't mean that there weren't any - nor did they need to find out. Gaucho had been flying higher than normal (again, no wraiths in the skies didn't mean that there weren't any - but he had hoped that the infection would dissipate before reaching him so high up), and had almost passed over the two mares below. It was Mara's keen sense of vision that had alerted the large dun stallion that someone - two someone's - were lingering below.

With a grunt, dark ears pinned against his antlered skull, Gaucho descended.

Large hooves slammed into the fertile soil much less gracefully than normal, leaving fiery outlines, but now was no time for delicacy. Now was a time act.

"Not safe." He grunted, folding his flame-etched wings to his side. Even his mane and tail glistened faintly with harmless flames, which lapped against his dark tangles of hair. "Sickness spreads across the lands. Must get to caves." Although he was addressing both, his sharp gaze turned to focus on Azale, who appeared to be the greeter, and not the newcomer. "You no see the wraiths?" He demanded of her, some what shortly. "You should no better, than to stand here and talk. Both of you - " taking a step back, he regarded both mares with a protectors emotionless gaze, "Both of you. To the caves. I show you - but we no wait."

No Time for Lies and Empty Fights

Still the northern forest teemed with fresh blood; ignorant faces yet to bear the terror boiling through the main-land of Helovia. The last trip had been successful. Even if only one innocent soul had been found and rescued, that was worth ever hour spent trawling through the warren of old, wind-blown trees therein. Hector swept with the fluid grace of his feathered kin; the strength and vitality of those without embellishment altogether, and the cleverness of the timeless, ethereal race who strode like willow-the-wisps in eerie mist shroud valleys. In his wake streamed a powder-white slipstream, and through the icy moisture danced the breath-like apparition on lookout.

The rolling landscape below transformed from the myriad greens of the thistle flecked meadow, at last into the earthy hues of old pine forest- ochre brown, rust red and shadowy, dull green. Hector had arrived and although previously the air of tension and foreboding had dissolved as he breached this borderline, still the Boggart was sent down first, to scout and make certain no wraiths were hunting through the trees. Meanwhile, the giant chestnut swooped and circled clear of the sparse, spindly canopy, leaning heavily on the switch of his partner’s shrewd mind.

‘Your blood still lingers, here Hector, another...’ The voice rose through his conscience with another tide of wrathful concern. Veci, had found for the taking another Pegasus wandering through the instability of these cursed times- without understanding of the perils snapping so greedily at their heels. Instantly, the warrior’s enormous wingspan had halved, folding artfully to allow his practiced plunge towards the earth. While fuzzed orange ears sought refuge reclining swiftly through the swirls of fire-engulfed ginger mane and forelock pulled from its place, vigilant eyes roved through the strips of space between the scattered trees for sign of this newcomer- if that was what presented.

He could feel the presence of his bonded grow and grow as he neared their position, and at last her pale golden pelt drew his gaze; Gaucho was there already however and Hector could feel the bellow of his choppy tone resonating doggedly through the light zephyr as it patterned wickedly through the region. For this reason the soldier did not descend completely, his enormous frame glided above them, dipping left in salute to his brother in arms, and he continued on to search for more.

I was alone for just a second before many horses joined me. Well, two.. and half. Before I could meet them, I had to find them... or they had to find me. So, I glided easily along the moist path in a smooth and graceful trot now. My long creamy locks daring to drag the ground. Like white snowflakes, each strand falls perfectly in curly patterns of delicate beauty.

I'm not just a girl that is here for looks. I can kickass if I apply myself. I always wanted to be buried in honor when I fell, but now I know, that will be hard to reach. Dying in honor is task only few can accomplish, I want to be in that small handful of horses. I don't, however, want to be the captain of a sinking boat.

My home was a sinking ship, and one that I didn't ant to lead. My family was in rule for a long time, but that ended when rebels attacked. The mongrels had stripped the land of their beloved royal family-- my family. No longer would I be 'Princess Anayis'. I'm now just 'Anayis', except for the rare occasion when I'm called 'Bitch Anayis', but I don't want to be a bitch.

Not yet, at least.

I slithered to a halt as a mare comes forth. She is friendly, maybe even to a fault. I can see a bit of hope in this one. Maybe she won't be a devil spawn like most of the imbeciles I know. "Hello, Miss. Are you alright?" She spoke like a few of the Th'roquians that lived at my old home. She continued. "You really shouldn't be wandering out here all alone. It's not safe." She paused for a moment, and I took the opportunity to speak up, allowing my voice to echo around. "No, darlin'. I'm fine, but I am looking for my old home? I think the rebellious mongrels mustn't still be there now." I shoot her a pearly white smile. My teeth are in very good condition, unlike many horses that live here.

"I'm Azale Moniet of World's Edge, but please call me Azale.. What's your name?" I look at her with a sweet gaze, but I am really analyzing her. I'm seeing if maybe she has some muscle on her bones.. or even meat! She is a beautiful horse, but I personally think if she'd let her hair grow out, she'd look amazing. I noticed she has two sets of wings, interesting, yes. "That is a fabulous name, but tell me... Why do you ask people to call you Azale? Moniet is very beautiful." I have a slight accent, and it's quite obvious, for when I say her name, there is added fanciness. My tones are thick and rich, enhancing my accent. My voice is different, strange. "I am Anayis, you may call me anything you'd like, Azale Moniet." I'm sure Azale will find me to be a very foreign horse. Not in a bad way, I hope.

In the midst of our conversation, a freight train falls from the sky.. oh, wait... It's just a stallion. He landed with a thud loud enough to be a meteor striking the ground not to far away. Maybe the ground vibrated a little. Maybe I jumped a little, but now I'm fine-- I think. I hope. Now, I flick my head around, looking at him. "Hello. This is Azale Moniet and I am Anayis." I pause and study his brown flanks, where large dark wings jut out. He's much stronger than me, and probably Azale, but I don't know. I didn't get to examine her fully.

Then the stallion starts talking a lot of mumbo jumbo, and I don't really understand it all. "Sickness spreads across the lands. Must get to caves." What does he mean by sickness? Like a little cough or something far more dangerous and deadly. "Who are you? I will not go to a cave with a stranger, sorry." Of course, I realized it might be for protection and not him initiating some kind of sexual thing, but still... for all I know, we'd get there and he'd do something.

Cocking my head, my cream mane falls off of the bridge of my nose and covers my left eye with curls. I stretch my dark grey muzzle out to him. My ears slanted backwards, but by no means flattened against my neck. Azale Moniet is free to leave, but I won't move an inch until someone tells me what is happening.

I look upwards, hoping no more pegasi will decide to fall from the sky and ask us to go to a cave with them. As I look up, I see a small form flying across the sky. Slowly, the little dot disappears.

ARE WE GOING TO GET AMBUSHED?

Panting, sweating, wild-eyed – utterly confused. Darkness chased her from the beaches and where she went from there is but a mystery. She has no clue what’s going on, or how to stop it. The darkness is in her home, outside of her home and everywhere else they could possibly be; including her mind. They’re inescapable. You just have to hope that when they come, they do not take you – pray they take your neighbor. Sounds mean, but seriously, when you’re a little paint unicorn in the middle of mystical crazy confusing chaos…you’re going to want to be a little picky about compassion.

She’s moving swiftly away from the Basin now; the Steppe’s mark no challenge for her either. She moves liquidly down the ridged cliffside, gripping the stone and ice carefully with her hairy cloven feet as she descends into the forests below. The air is heavy with rot…it smells like infection, like a festering death lingering on your flesh; waiting to drag you into the dark. She crashes through the woods, the empty, soundless woods. It isn’t normal for these dirt streets to be so barren – blank of sound and movement – the only smell being that of a metallic evil haunting the atmosphere. Her feet do not stop moving, franticly pattering in place when she comes to a fork in the path and quickly rushing to collect back into a gallop.

By now she has foam forming on her chest, between her front legs, thighs, under her ears and mane. She heaves with every breath, her nostrils as tightly flexed as they will go, their brims quivering with tension.

..caves…’ something something something burr burr brah ‘caves…

Her ears spike and her body instinctively shoves into the direction of this beautiful word she keeps hearing. Time to investigate said word – amongst the commotion of Helovia, there has already been talk of an uprising from the downfall that currently cloaks the land. Tang has paid no mind to it, really, until now..until all of the faces she met just a few months ago are turning bloody and ripping throats.

She comes upon them like this;

Chestnut swoops away, gives his bro-face a nod – bro-face looks like Tangere feels. Girl is standing there, head shaking (not literally, but the vibe is obvious), next to another silent mare… She doesn’t want to be escorted to safety. Well, no, that’s just dumb. She must not know, right? Tang doesn’t wonder for very long before she comes skidding in beside the mare, peering quickly at the departing male and then toward the other three. “Are you…” She mouth breaths deeply, needing a moment to catch her now shaky, raspy voice. “Are you guys headed to the caves?” She pants, hanging her head low as if it is going to help, her ribs swell and sink dramatically while she watches them… “They are..” Pant, pant, heave heave, “They’re building an army..” Inhale, exhale. It’s getting a little better now. “To fight these things…or something…I have no idea really..” And she doesn’t. She’s heard random things here and there – one of those things being a war effort, or rumor of, and safety in the caves. She is really hoping for there to be honesty in the latter. “But.” She isn’t sure why, but something tells her to look beside her...and there she lays those dark, delicate eyes onto the golden mare closest to her. “We have to go.” She moves her eyes to the winged stallion (Gaucho), “We should go as a group,” Her glance slides form each face to the other, addressing them all. “We’ll have a better chance that way.

You only have to be faster than the slowest…

A snarl appeared on Gaucho's rugged features at Anayis's words. There was simply not time for this. He didn't have time for this. If it wasn't the case that wraiths infected others who in turn became wraiths, thus increasing the population of those infected, he might have left her there. Both of them. They were not his kin, and didn't need to be his problem. Only, it was his problem. They could be infected, and possibly find Zeno - or Sohalia. All because this one was too stupid to listen.

His stormy gaze bore upon her golden shoulders and caramel eyes. "Yes. You are." He replied through clenched teeth - the muscles of his jaw flexing as he held his tongue. He would drag her there himself if need be, he would -

Ssssssssssss

In his antlers, Mara hissed. Slithering forward, the snake regarded the two females with beady black eyes. She wound herself around Gaucho's antlers, her forked tongue flickering out at them, gathering their scent. Tell them moreeeee She hissed mentally to Gaucho, urging him to at least try to communicate, before dragging them off to safety. Grunting, Gaucho's dark ears pinned against his head. But he did as Mara suggested

"There is evil in Helovia. Infection across the land. Caves only safe place. I start - "

He was cut off, as Tangere approached. Although he thought about silencing her, he found he was relieved as she began speaking, for she only reinforced the point he was trying to make. His antlered brow nodded as she spoke, while trials of fire burned without heat, on his wings and mane. "Gaucho start that army. " He clarified. "Caves safe, yes. But we not stay down there forever. Helovia our home - we not be forced out like rats."

We have to go

Gaucho nodded in agreement, turning an accusatory glance towards Anayis and Azale. "We go. Now."

Azale Moniet stays silent (but if she was talking, I didn't hear it.) Immediately, the bay boy speaks. His words mean nothing to me. Does he think I'm staying here? Well, if he does he must think of me as mentally ill. I've had a lifetime worth of insanes, and I know that I am not like that. I just want to know if anyone knows where Th'orqui is.

This stallion's sentances are choppy and I come to wonder if he is even capable of forming real sentances. Perhaps he is only used as a warrior. He's seems to be the perfect battle machine-- he looks the part and is probably a great defensive fighter. The many points on his antlers are a great weapon of defense. I've seen many with horns like that, and they are always excellent fighters. I'm more of a detective. Would he even understand what that means?

It means I'm a terrible fighter.

"Yes. You are." I cock an eyebrow at this stallion. Who the hell does he think he is, bossin' me around? I should kick hiss arse for demanding a lady to come to a cave. I growl out a humph, and look at everything-- but the Bay.

I would've continued to ignore him, but the thing coiled in his antlers hissed. I gaze at the lightly colored no-legged lizard pet. Does he just force everything to follow him around like loyal bitches? "No. I'm not." I shot back his words, but I said them slightly differently than he did. My comment was filled with a defiant tone.

He speaks more, and I feel obligated to listen. "There is evil in Helovia. Infection across the land. Caves only safe place. I start - " He 'start' what? A rebellion? There's no way in hell am I going to join a rebellion... no way in hell. "Gaucho start that army. " "You started infection?" I interrogate him with a stern tone. At this point, I can't decide if the stallion is really a grown, conceded stallion, or just a boy pretending to be worth something. "And who the hell is Gaucho?" The first thing that pops into my head, is the idea of such a brawny boy that is actually homosexual.

Gaucho says something about rats, but it doesn't really interest me. This conversation would've been boring, but right before the boy said he started the army, a unicorn comes and believes if she waves her magical wand, she'll convince me to travel with them, but I've got some tough news to break to her. "Have you noticed something, mare? We all have wings--" I pause for a moment. Upon continuing, I glance over her grey body. "--but you. How do you expect to keep up with not one, but three flying horses?" Now the interrogation moves to the unicorn.

Upon saying all that, I've decided to join the rebellion against the non-safety here. "Listen here, boy. I'll follow you to your underground home, but I won't be putting up with people asking me to fight." I look at him sternly once more. "Good luck trying, to fly, unicorn." I shoot her a cynical glance.

Let's see what happens when she catches the sickness.

I unfurl my wings in a delicate swoosh. My feminine features glitter in the pale light. I'm a pretty mare, that I know. I do try to show my good features, and hide the bad. How do horses here react to flirting? Let's see. "C'mon, let's go... big boy." Tossing my mane into the air, it flaps down messily on the left side of my neck.

Are we going to leave now?

@[Gaucho], @[Anayis]
Gaucho’s broken speech falls on her receptive ears quite nicely – she accepts his communication with no qualms, she knows no different. Coming from beyond the native language of Helovians, she understands quite a few languages and many aren’t what you’d call ‘easy to comprehend’. At the very least she understands exactly what he’s trying to convey…and isn’t that the point of verbal communication anyways? Tang thinks so. She takes the information given and kneads it through the many cogs and holes amongst her thoughts; she really doesn’t quite get the whole thing…but clearly she isn’t the only one a bit confused.

Attitude from the goldeny Pegasus seems to focus solely on Tangere now and instantly she becomes a little nervous. Already her adrenaline is spreading generously through her veins, pulsating in her muscles and tightening her breathing. Her pupils pin on the mare as she becomes increasingly twatty. Tangere withholds a real reaction for now – deeming this moment a testament to her teacher’s (Illynx) lack of compassion for anyone lacking a horn. They’re not all like that, she muses to herself, searching the quiet fire smoldering in the mare’s eyes.

She sneers, collecting the confidence driving by fear and drawing only a few words with her silky childish voice. “I’ll keep up, don’t fret about me.” She isn’t sure if the Pegasus is paying much attention, as she is moving away to send herself into flight. Tangere feels no need to announce she’ll be well equipped to follow them from the ground…Unicorns aren’t all that useless after all, and do not possess the typical mortal problems with stamina and speed. Sure, she’s not quite magical or able to teleport – or fly, as brat-face kindly pointed out, but they’re not pointless by any means.

The sabino moves into position to take to the highlands, she’ll need only a glimpse of them or the sound of their wings beating the wind to guide her in a general direction. Perhaps they won’t all be completely up their own asses and offer a little help if I’m picked off; she hopes this silently, but makes no attempt to voice such hopefulness… She awaits Gaucho’s flight to launch into a full run... Once they’re in the air she’ll have to navigate through the deep woods, if she stays on the shallow cliffs that look over the Meadows and once in the Meadows, stays on the hills, she should be able to keep sight of them – assuming they do not bob and weave intentionally to lose the wingless girl in the dust.

Gaucho's dark ears pinned against his skull. The idea of leaving this mare here seemed better and better all the time. She probably wouldn't infect too many if he - SSSSTOP Mara hissed angrily in his antlers, cutting off this line of thought. Bring her to ssssafety. Although Gaucho knew his companion was right, the more she flapped her lips, the less he felt inclined to comply. He would of course, but he didn't have to like it.

"Gaucho start army." He clarified with a cold scowl in her direction, purposefully drawing himself up to his full height, so as to tower above her. "I Gaucho." He continued, extending a flame-tipped wing to point at his broad and blue-striped chest, to reinforce that 'Gaucho' named him.

His flame-etched tail flicked against his dark hocks, as the golden pegasus addressed the newly arrived unicorn. She seemed....hostile, but for no reasons that Gaucho could imagine. Had the two met previously? Was this mare racist, in the way that the Basin was? If that was the case, perhaps he ought to let her fend for herself amongst the wraiths. Given the state that Helovia was in, this blatant discrimination would only cause further harm, especially if they all had to live together in the underground caves. Even though more and more underground caverns were being discovered each day, it was surely still not as large as Helovia-upper was.

As Anayis turned to once again address him, calling him big boy, the dun snorted dismissively, turning his crowned skull away from her. "Gaucho know the way. Not you. We go together." He snapped, looking at the unicorn with a nod. There were many in his herd who were wingless; flying such that he remained visible to them was not anything he wasn't used to already.

"We fly below clouds - make sure you see us. Caves are south-west, in Heart. Gaucho put dream-catcher there - it coated in gold. You see that, you in right place."

Ears flattening against his skull, he turned to the golden-painted female, his emotionless gaze washing over her. "We go." He cast a final glance towards the silent four-winged white mare to ensure that she was planning on following. Satisfied, Gaucho took a few long strides forward, before his black wings lifted him into the air. Gaining altitude on flame-kissed wings, Gaucho reached his soaring altitude fairly quickly. He continued below the cover of clouds just as he said he would - headed south west, towards the heart; towards the caves.

All of the sudden it went from just us two girls, to a whole hell of a lot more. I just stared with my orange eyes in shock. I found myself fumbling for words. I could only listen to the banter back and forth and take in what they knew. Caves, and Helovia was not safe.... Well duh when had Helovia ever been safe.... But what were these wraiths that the stallion was going on about? They could infect others? Oh come on! Can't my little family catch a break?! I glance to the sky, barely noticing another was there before a unicorn arrived. Her scent reeked of the Basin. My face surely showed my disapproal. However I was not about to say anything against her home if she knew the way.... Maybe she just was led to the wrong place. Maybe she was one that wasn't racist like the rest.

Wordlessly I looked between the crowd that had now gathered before my gaze settled on the bay. He had this wild look to him.... and smelled of.... oh my he smells of the Throat! I really do have an issue with this. Maybe I should seek help for my obbsession with the Dragon's Throat... Nah! I will live there one day. My family just did not understand. It was WARM there. The bay, Gaucho he called himself, was talking of going to the caves again. He claimed they were safe. "Well then, what are we all standing around for? Let's go." I would leave later on and find my older brother and baby sister if they were not already there. After all, maybe one of our herd had found the way in, or someone from the Throat had come to the Edge to show them. A girl could dream couldn't she?
