Ktulu

"We're going back?" Eytan's voice was filled with doubt and confusion as he questioned his bonded of her intentions. He had asked about going back to the Foothills several times before but he had always been met with resistance and a touch of hostility from the black and bronze mare. The change of heart she'd had left him confused and happy because he was finally going home. Ktulu, however, wasn't feeling anywhere near as happy as Eytan was. She felt doubtful and apprehensive because she was sure that no one would just accept her with open arms.

But it wasn't everyone else that she was going back for. Lakota and Apollo were the reason that she was finally swallowing her pride and going back.

Ktulu knew the borders of the Foothills better than she knew her way through the dark forest, so when she came to the border she stopped. A soft breeze drifted and with it came the scents of everything she had come to know and the scents of those that had come in her wake. The Constrictor flicked her tail and looked down at the grizzly who stood by her side, waiting for her to either give him a command or cross the border, but Ktulu would not cross the border into a place that she could no longer call her home without permission. She had spent too many long days and nights patrolling the very same borders she was standing on, running off those from other herds that crossed without permission and accepting those that wanted to be part of the Grey.

"Find Lakota." She murmured to the bear as she looked down at him. He gave a nod of his head and set up at a run to find the blue roan and the polar bear that he come to treat as part of his own family. Ktulu watched as the bear gradually faded from sight then sighed and shifted her weight as she waited for him to bring Lakota to her.

They were sparring when they were found. White and black mixed beautifully, an elegant dance as Lakota struck out at her companion, only for it to be returned with fierce snaps and body shoves. Each blow had little to no impact behind it, but it looked dangerous regardless. It was a way for them to release their energy, their frustrations, while improving their skills. Both were panting softly, a light sheen of sweat on the mistress's coat, a shining sapphire and onyx. Aodaun saw him first, and gave a happy bark. Lakota jolted in surprise at the sudden change in behavior, cocking her head at him. Eytan! It was a word inside her head, but it came out as a happy, chirping bark. The polar bear child went running towards the grizzly, lime eyes bright and happy as he spotted his friend. Lakota laughed and turned her violet gaze towards the two, watching them fondly. It took a ridiculously long pause for her to realize what him being there meant. "Ktulu!" she gasped aloud, and her ears flicked up so high they ached, and without a second thought she lunged towards the two bears, scattering them as she ran towards the borders where Eytan had come from. The two companions followed after her, and the glowing smile on her face lit up her entire being as she raced to find her beloved. What was she doing at the Foothills?! No, scratch that, Lakota didn't care what brought her lover back home, she was just so excited over the fact that Ktulu was there at all.

Much like a flustered filly in the face of her crush, Lakota could barely restrain herself, legs lengthening with every step, wanting only to be at the side of her love. It still gave her a rush to think that, to know she could finally say it, call Ktulu beloved, her love, her lover. Cheeks hot she tried not to think about it, she wanted to receive the black cherry dame the right way. As herself, the real Lakota.

In the distance she saw her, pale locks catching the weak sunlight, red-tipped dagger glowing like a conductor of lightning. "Ktulu!" she cried, pushing herself faster, Eytan and Aodaun hot on her heels. Her smile was so wide it nearly hurt, pace hardly slowing as she neared the taller mare. "You're here!" She threw herself at the taller beauty, careening against her chest, throwing her crown up to wrap around Ktulu's back. She stumbled embarrassingly, but she was laughing so happily she could hardly care about appearance. Inhaling her scent, Lakota couldn't help but giggle in relief that she really was there. "You're here, you're here, you're here," she sighed out, eyes wet with happy tears, pressing her face into Ktulu's skin, sharing her tears.

Ktulu had really come. It hadn't been a dream, a brief flash of hope. Ktulu had chosen to come and see her, to seek her out. Ktulu had chosen her. Lakota knew it was assuming a bit much, to say that, but when she was pressed up against the taller mare's chest, safe and protected, she remembered her brother's words. Maybe it was okay to be a little selfish. Maybe it was time. "Ktulu," she breathed, the name sweet and reverent on her tongue, cuddling up to the larger mare like an overly affectionate cat. She didn't want to move away to talk, didn't want to move away at all, so until Ktulu moved back to initiate conversation, Lakota was content to stay wrapped up in her warmth, her scent.

Safe.

Ktulu

It seemed as if a lifetime had passed before she could hear the distant echo of thundering hooves above the joyful shouting of Eytan's voice within her mind. "A'kota! A'kota! A'kota's coming!" It set Ktulu's heart to racing and made her muscles tight with a nervous tension that she hadn't felt in a while. She hated the feeling, but at the same time she adored it because she knew she was about to be face to face with someone who she would lay her life down for. There had been many times when she'd been face to face with Lakota before, they had fought, had argued, flirted, argued some more, and said their goodbyes, but now they were opening up a new chapter of their lives. They would have been able to do so sooner if Ktulu hadn't been such a stubborn ass, but it was one of the many faults that Lakota had come to accept.

Ktulu smiled when she heard her name on Lakota's lips, thinking that the word had never sounded more right. "Lakota." She answered back as the smaller mare came to her and shoved herself against her chest. The Constrictor stumbled back several steps as she hooked her neck over Lakota in a clearly possessive manner, and when she regained her footing held the medic tightly against her chest, amazed at just how well they fit together. "I'm here." She repeated after the mantra that Lakota had been saying over and over again. It really did almost feel like a dream because the last time they had been together they had been arguing and if it hadn't been for the two bears they probably would have ended their friendship right there in the Thistle Meadow.

"You're welcome." Eytan's piped up and when Ktulu looked at him he had leaned his weight against the younger polar bear and was watching the two mares like a proud parent would a foal taking its first steps. "You're growing up." Ktulu rolled her eyes at the bear and squeezed Lakota once more before forcing herself to let go and take a step back.

Lakota had never looked more beautiful, but then again Ktulu had never seen the mare be truly happy and carefree. There was no weight that was dragging her down. No sadness tarnished those beautiful violet eyes and it made Ktulu's heart ache to know that she had been one of the bastards that had made Lakota hurt the way she had. Did she really even deserve to call someone like Lakota her own?

Probably not, but she would.

The dark mare banished the thought from her mind and once more was pulling Lakota against her chest. "I came back for you." She whispered. It had taken her a long time to finally come to her senses and realized that she was being selfish and demanding something from Lakota that she shouldn't have been demanding. What would she have done if she had been in Lakota's place? "If you'll have me." She whispered again, but even if Lakota denied her she would always hold Ktulu's heart.

He walks with confidence, mind and body at ease. Ever since his precious moments with Lakota, he has been feeling happier now than ever before. His wounds had been healed thanks to the sweet blue maiden, and he wanted to thank her with a bouquet of purple, blue and red flowers. With the bundle of life between his jaws, he trots along through the Hills. His pale auds were perked as he swerved off to the side, closer to the borders. A deep inhale, nostrils flared. Her scent grows stronger with each step he takes. But he stops as a fresh, familiar scent devours Lakota's. Eyes widen as he speeds forward, emeralds catching the familiar roan bodice.

Careful to stay downwind, the stallion hastily follows the Medic. A frown is drawn go his pale lips as he spots Ktulu, the mare he once followed when the Grey still exsisted. He watches as Lakota screams her name, rushing to her. It is not like a reunion of mother and daughter, but of long lost lovers. Locket can feel his heart grow weak as Lakota and Ktulu embrace, his chest throbbing with an unknown pain. He felt a rush of cold creep along his spine, needles jabbing at his legs. The flowers he held drop, a few petals swept away in the wind. His heart falls with the flowers, yet not as gracefully. He feels as though someone has pierced his breast with a sword, or maybe a thousand swords. A creeping, crawling numbness inches up to his knees. He wanted to give in to his aching heart, to release the tears he forcefully held back.

The Warrior is not as strong willed as he thinks, his will finally snapping. He releases his few tears, turning his head away. It's not real. He mutters to himself, mind shaking. He presses himself into the shadows so the mares will not see him. He would wait to see what they said to one another. Inside he had worked himself up, in fact, he didn't even know if Lakota actually cared about him. He could just be leading himself into hopeless fantasies for all he knew.

Time seemed to slow down when their eyes met, ruby on amethyst. Lakota felt the world revolve oddly around her, butterflies going wild in her stomach. She simply didn't know how everything could be going so perfectly. Life never went easy on her. What had she done to deserve this? What had she done to show Lady Fate that she was worthy of Ktulu? Of a second chance at love? Her beads clicked harmoniously in her ears, and briefly, she heard Ithrim's voice in her head. Love again. Be free. Her heart swelled, happy tears flowing even faster. Even if it was merely her mind playing tricks on her, she would take it. She would accept it.

Aodaun is happily leaning back against Eytan as he watches the two mares crash into each other, as if the possibility of pain was nothing to them in their moment of bliss and reunion. Kota curled up beneath Ktulu's neck, happily folding beneath the larger mare, finding bliss wrapped in her scent. Ktulu's smile was like a ray of sunshine, it was something so rare to see, she cherished it. Her heart fluttered at the fact that she had put that smile there. She had made Ktulu so happy with her presence that the stoic maiden deigned to give her such a lovely gift.

Ktulu caught her mid-flight, the two of them stumbling, and Lakota didn't even bother to hide the shiver that went through her when the other mare grabbed her body possessively and tugged her closer. It felt delicious, so perfect, it made her melt into her mistress without a second thought. Was this what love felt like? It had been so long, so long, since Lakota had last indulged in its sweet euphoria. Her name was like sugar on Ktulu's lips, and she gave a soft whimper of pleasure at simply hearing her own name. Love did strange things to people, and Lakota hoped that what love did to her wouldn't chase Ktulu away. "I'm here." Lakota gave a soft hiccuping sob among her laughs, happy tears bubbling over. She really was here.

Aodaun was happily dancing about in her thoughts, words beyond him, just pleased that they had finally made up. He reached over to Eytan and tugged on the grizzly's ear gently, playfully. He was but a babe in comparison, snuggling deeper into Eytan's side, wanting attention from his idol. Their bondeds had finally found love. Ao never wanted it to be broken apart.

Lakota made a soft sound of displeasure when Ktulu let go and moved back, tilting her head up to look at her beloved. She felt really shy, doing so, having Ktulu look at her with tears on her face and a nervous smile, wind-messed locks and all. The words that came from the one she loved shocked her, eyes flying open like a startled deer. It took her a few seconds to even get her mouth working right. "W-What?" Back? What did she mean by back? Back as in...as in how she was standing there, visiting her? Or back as in...as in...?

She hardly dared to imagine it, to hope that Ktulu meant in such a way. But the words that came next cemented it for her. Ktulu came back to be a part of the Foothills once more. Came back for her. Once more her tears began to trickle down her face, face scrunching up in a futile effort to combat them. "You idiot," she choked fondly, moving forward to shove her face into Ktulu's marked shoulder, embarrassed by her tears, wanting to hide them. Ktulu pulled her even closer, and Lakota's laughs were pitiful hiccups once again. "Of course I will, stupid!" she mumbled into her shoulder, laughing incredulously.

"I love you, I love you, you came back, oh Ktulu," she cried softly into her skin, eyes shut tight, hidden away from the world in the hold of her loved one.

when your eyes are red and emptiness is all you know

"I came back." Ktulu repeated to Lakota, her crimson eyes studying the roan's tear stained face. Part of her couldn't help but wonder why Lakota cared about her as much as she did and the other part was grateful that she did because it meant that she wasn't alone. She extended her muzzle and brushed it across Lakota's cheeks, wiping away tears before she tugged her to her chest once more and held her there securely. Her own eyes misted and she blinked them several times before the threat of crying had diminished.

"You idiot. Of course I will, stupid!"

At first Ktulu was shocked, then she laughed quietly. Had anyone else called her an idiot there was no doubt that there would have been dire consequences, but this was Lakota. She could have said anything to Ktulu at that moment and the dark mare would have shrugged it off. She could have screamed at her, accused her of any number of horrendous things and no harm would have befallen the medic because Ktulu would sooner throw herself into the heart of Helovia before she deliberately caused Lakota any harm.

"I love you, I love you, you came back, oh Ktulu."

A sense of peaceful bliss befell Ktulu as she listened to Lakota's declaration of love and she found the words forming on her lips. "I love you, too." Her voice was quiet, obviously meant for Lakota's ears only. Of course Eytan had to pop into Ktulu's mind at that moment and make the mare giggle. "A'kota and Tooloo sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G..." The bear let out a bark of laughter and rolled onto his side toward the polar bear that was vying so desperately for his attention. He then clambered to his feet and took off at a run into the Foothills, happy to finally be back home.

Several minutes later Ktulu pulled herself away from Lakota and looked gingerly at the smaller mare. She brushed Lakota's dark forelock from her eyes and placed a gentle 'kiss' on her forehead, much like the one Lakota had given her on the day that Eios had crossed the border into the Foothills. "I've been away from you for far too long." She admitted as she stepped close once more because the desire of feeling Lakota against her was too much to ignore. "I'm sorry."

Ktulu had always been brash and stoic, and Lakota knew for a fact that many took her to be unfeeling and harsh; but with the gentle kisses swept across her cheeks, Lakota didn't know how anyone could ever think that. It was like a testimony to Ktulu's love, that she treated Lakota like a porcelain doll. The poisoner knew that Ktulu was aware of her expertise, and did not truly look down on her like that, but it made her weak in the knees and hot in the face to know that the other mare found her so precious as to protect her so diligently. A squeak of surprise fled her dark lips as the warrior pulled her sharply to her chest once more, as if demanding Lakota be nearer, and not taking no for an answer. Lakota found it endearing, and she reached up to cuddle her cheek against a strong burgundy shoulder, smiling so widely she felt as if she was not herself.

Ktulu's surprise was tangible, and Lakota giggled at the reaction she'd garnered, even if it made her sappily remember how the Constrictor had teased her about her giggles so long ago. It seemed years since that had occurred. Clearly her mistress wasn't used to being called an idiot, endearing as Lakota had said it, but her chuckle made Lakota weak, stomach aflutter at the sound. She could hear that for the rest of her life and never tire of it. They fell into comfortable, nearly ecstatic silence, and Lakota wanted only to be cradled closer, to make her home in Ktulu's chest, to bask in the glow of her love and never want for anything ever again. So long as her Chieftess was at her side, Lakota would never desire anything else in life.

Aodaun on the other hand yelped in surprise as Eytan rolled over onto him, playfully growling in return and leaping to his paws to tear after the grizzly into the surrounding forest. It was time to leave their bondeds to themselves, and Ao was more than happy knowing Eytan could once again call the forests home. Lakota, on the other hand, was positively swooning as Ktulu leaned down to whisper words of love into her ear. After all the dancing around each other they'd done, hearing it said so plainly, so sincerely, was almost more than Lakota could handle. She nearly missed the departure of her ice prince.

Ktulu pulled away, and Lakota gave a rather loud whimper of discontent, which made her face go hot as she hid behind her ebony locks. White decorated eye looked up at Ktulu shyly, suddenly losing all confidence around her and feeling like a nervous filly again. A soft kiss was pressed to her brow, and it relaxed from whatever tension had gathered, eyes fluttering shut and smile curling her lips sweetly in response as she leaned into the touch. Ktulu's sweetness was intoxicating, a promise of more to come, and Lakota was more than prepared to return the attention and affection. And maybe drown in it happily.

The words she spoke were somewhat sad as she stepped closer, and Lakota brushed their cheeks together while she was away from the intoxicating hold of her beloved. "Mia cara, it is all good now. It is in the past. You're here now." She whispered it lovingly, craning her head to press her face into Ktulu's cheek, never wishing to leave her embrace. But she had to, retreating enough to brush their muzzles together shyly, smiling nervously.

"I-I'm sorry for being so clingy I just...I feel safe, like that. It's...good. Really good." Her face was aflame at the end, not knowing how to explain to Ktulu how her knees shook and her stomach warmed, how it was almost erotic with how much she loved it. Had she really been desiring her touch for so long that it was now consuming her? It was deathly embarrassing. "I just...it's you and..." she stuttered, veiling her face, wanting to die from embarrassment. So why couldn't she stop talking?!

The hurt the head forgets, The heart will always remember

The darkness devoured her, and now it threw her forth. The Spider Child was now a wicked incarnate. Her body decaying and it reeked of death. Where a once healthy and sturdy child stood, remained something far from mortal, every feature screamed of malice. Only one thing filled her dark and corrupted mind, flesh. Every essence of her being craved the taste of it. She longed to see the living change and mutate. Let the darkness destroy them all. Oh how afraid she had been when it came, but now she was liberated of fear. No longer did she feel anything. All that remained was an unfathomable hunger.

The sweet scent of flesh filled her nostrils. A grin passed over her lips, she could feel the thin arachnid legs that protruded from her flesh jittering about in excitement. Softly she hummed an eerie tune, as she approached. Darkness rolled in with her. All four of her eyes took in the details of the stallions. Oh which one should she pick? Both were so perfectly ripe and ready for the taking. Ever so slowly she approached the two mares, her eyes drifting between the two of them, completely ignoring the bears. Finally she made her decision, the black one, the one with a crown.

Despite how ragged and sickly she looked, the Spider Child still moved with speed. She bolted forward and released an unearthly loud wail. Once she drew close, she first released a massive wad of spit toward the dark mare. Shortly after, she reared up in hopes of grasping onto the flesh of her right shoulder. The darkness needed to pulsate through this mortal’s veins, and soon she would find himself liberated. The dark shadow lingered at her feet and she would soon turn her attention to the other pile of flesh.

After she had made her first assault she galloped past the two mares and stopped in front of them, she wanted to behold her work. The eight legs that protruded from her sides jittered about and the child watched and waited in wicked excitement. Hysterical giggles passed from her lips. “LET DARKNESS CONSUME YOU!” The shrieks were wild and all four of her eyes widened. Before them wasn’t a child, before them was a malevolent black widow waiting to dine on the flesh of mortals.

No matter how she wanted to remain where she was and hold Lakota against her and just relish the touch that she had been missing for so long there was always something that would ruin it. This something came in the form of something that sounded completely unnatural. Ktulu's head jerked up and her body began to turn, muscles already flexing and tightening beneath her dark coat as she readied herself for a fight, but what she saw both confused and alarmed her. Charging them was something that resembled a foal, but the things jutting from her sides certainly weren't anything any normal foal would have.

Ktulu sidestepped toward Lakota, aiming to jostle the mare with her shoulder as roughly as she could. It ran at them and when it came to stand before them and stare the dark mare began to feel the first inkling of panic tightening in her chest. "Run!" She hissed at Lakota, aiming a sharp bite at her love's neck and rump if she turned and fled like she had instructed her to. Spit from the spiderfoal splattered against her dark hide and the feeling of teeth against her shoulder made the Constrictor lunge at the monster with her mouth open, snapping for anything that was within reach, but the foal was quick and was already some distance away staring. Her ears lay flat against her head as she strode forward.

"LET DARKNESS CONSUME YOU!"

The monster shrieked and Ktulu came to a halt. "Shut up, abomination!" She ground out as she began to focus her dark magic in the attempt to constrict the foal's airways and leave her struggling for breath, if she even breathed. If her magic even worked. Whether or not the magic worked the foal would have to go through her if she intended to get to Lakota.

Locket wanted to fade away, knowing now that his.. interest, was actually in love with his former leader. He was feeling both moved and destroyed knowing the woman he flirted with was now cuddling up with Ktulu, one of the mares he most respected. Swallowing his pride, he hesitantly steps forward, wondering if he should reveal himself now or wait until they broke apart. If, they broke apart. He corrects himself, ears flicked back. Finally something dark falls into his view, an uneasiness clawing at him. Something was off, the way this being brought a horrid rotting stench behind it, with multiple mutilated limbs sprouting from its back.

It lunged.

Locket holds his breath as he leaps down to help, taking no time to climb down to them, instead clearing half the minor hill in a mere leap and bound. His cloven hooves thundered madly as he watches this haunting creature spit goop towards the dark unicorn. He swerves before Lakota, using himself as a shield for her. Ktulu screams for the roan to run, and Locket watches as she reaches to nip her hind and neck. He faces the monster child now, staring at it with an enraged look. How dare it try to hurt what was his... how dare it think it could bring down his family like this. With a deep inhale Locket lunges forward, attempting to bring his hooves upon the small beast. He would not let it leave without snapping each of its legs, without breaking away its horn and making sure it had to stumble home blindly. "Demon! Leave this land and never return!" He hisses, racing to the side of the monster. He does not bite at it, instead he rears up to bring his hooves upon this beasts extra ligaments, wishing to break them from her body. He pays no heed to Ktulu, instead rages onward. He kicks his hind legs in the attempt to crumble the beast's knees by breaking them or merely bending them. Whether this foul thing allowed him dominance or not was for fate to decide.

Their peace was never meant to last. At first, Lakota foolishly thanked the interruption, her embarrassment still tangible and real inside her. But as she turned her head away from the bloody gaze of her mistress, what fell beneath her vision was like a corrupted demon. A foal by any other name, with appendages gruesomely sticking out of her ribcage, stench apparent from their distance. Death and gore. Instinct from long ago in the hearts of her ancestors told her to flee, that this thing was unnatural and heralded nothing but death and destruction. But love kept her rooted, fear for Ktulu and herself all that kept her from running to retrieve her family. This was a demon better fought in numbers.

So consumed with staring in horror at the poor possessed child, Lakota hardly recognized Ktulu moving until the slam of her shoulder made her yelp. The medic was pushed harshly to the side, stumbling wide-eyed away from the other mare, eyes snapping towards her. What was she doing?! The demonic thing ran towards them, and Lakota instinctively took a step closer back towards Ktulu, teeth bared protectively. Ever since they'd first met, it had always been that way- Lakota protecting Ktulu. It seemed this time, though, that Ktulu was having none of it. Lakota gasped as teeth sank into her neck, shoving her away. A single command was hissed into her ear, ivory flashing threateningly towards her. All at once, so dizzying in her realization it nearly made her sick, Lakota recognized what Ktulu was trying to do.

"N-No...Ktulu no, please!" I only just got you back! her mind wailed. But Ktulu was adamant, and the sharp bites got Lakota moving as the child lunged. With how it skittered towards them, it broke them apart as Lakota ran out of its way. Locket came charging in at that moment, but his entrance did nothing to stop Lakota from witnessing the demon attack her beloved. Something inside of her wailed in agony, but Locket was just as determined to get her away from the battle as Ktulu. "Ktulu!" her scream was half-choked, panic swelling in her chest, memories of Ithrim being torn apart in front of her constricting her heart until she could hardly breathe.

It was almost impossible, leaving. But Ktulu's wish couldn't be ignored. If Lakota could do her just this one thing...she knew inside that she would have done the same, asked her dark beauty to run to safety had their roles been reversed. Nearly blinded by tears, the medic could feel her soul breaking into pieces at leaving the one she loved behind to face this poisoned demon. All she could tell herself was that she needed to obey, she needed Ktulu to focus on the fight and not on worrying about keeping her safe.

Clamping her ears down to try and shut out the sounds, she turned towards the borders and began to run. Faster than she ever had, focused only on getting away while the monster was preoccupied. Tried not to think about what she was doing, pushing her body until her legs and lungs ached with fire. She had to find Apollo.
