The arid temperature, despite on coming winter was a great pleasure to the palomino stallion. No longer was he lost and wandering in foreign lands he was stowed away in. He was back home, feeling great yet with an underlying hint of anxiety. Phoenix hoped with a heavy heart that the horses here wouldn't think of him as the coward who ran away. The reality was, he would never do such a pathetic thing when it came to the protection of the herd. In the distance, a tiny speck of green stood out in the vast land of beige colored sand. Deciding to get a good run out of today before arriving back, led by Godiva, Phoenix slowly tilted towards the ground, landing with a thud.

Legs pumping faster, wings tucked in neatly to heaving flanks, the taut brute freely ran to an extent. The familiar scent of the Throat wafted to his nose, the smell of a lush oasis. A smile played upon his maw as he forced himself to get as close as possible, to meet one of his herd mates, or several if they wished. Phoenix was struggling to battle with prolonged anxiety and whimpering away when he faced new horses, but he didn't want to be like that anymore. The stallion wanted to halt being so confident and almost arrogant and then shying away like a leaf strewn away in the wind. Gradually diminuendo to a halt, the panting stallion let out a booming nicker.

He wished to find someone, and have some company. His resolution was to be more sociable, and interact with the herd that was almost like family to him.

High above, Gaucho soared with a few members of the Throat in tow. Only moments ago, they had learned that a real and true threat was upon their borders. Africa, their Oracle, spoke of a warning given to her by the Sun God himself. That story, combined with her interactions with a possessed creature within the Throat, made the decision to leave all too easy. Although it was a burden that Gaucho would forever have to carry - fleeing instead of fighting, the Sun God's words could not be ignored: ...it cannot be fought. Even a creature war such as Gaucho, knew when to loose a battle, to win the war.

As he flew towards the caves that Midas and He had just decided would serve as a haven, if only for a short time, he heard the nicker of the stallion below. He thought he recognized the brute....but from some time past, perhaps when Gaucho was merely a soldier, and not a Sultan. Not slowing, Gaucho returned the call with a booming neigh of his own.

"THROAT NOT SAFE" He bellowed. "Come now. Follow to caves."

Gaucho would not risk the safety of those who trailed behind him. If the stallion did not hear his words, perhaps he would be collected by Gaucho's spirits, or perhaps by Fina. If not, he might be lost to the darkness. Loose the battle, win the war. Sacrifice one, save the rest.

Beating his dark wings, Gaucho moved swiftly in the direction of the caves - which was an opening near Helovia's heart. He could only hope that the palomino stallion below had heard his words, and was wise enough to follow.

[Gaucho and Midas are mobilizing the herd to try and get them to the caves. Gaucho didn't stop - it's up to you if you decide to follow him, or stay here! :3]

On the ground, the aura of the normal day seemed to be strange. Pelt prickled, it started to become evident to Phoenix that something was wrong. The familiar buzz of muffled speaking was cut off. The Oasis seemed to sound vacant, with no life within it. The powerful beats of wings suddenly sounded over head, and the gruff voice of a male rang out, catching Phoenix's attention. What he told him confirmed the worst of the stallion's fears. Something was seriously off. Turning his body around in the different direction, a nagging thought bugged Phoenix. What if there were herd mates left behind in the Throat. But by the organized position these horses were flying in, he had a feeling that the others were safe.

Breaking into a spring, he leaped into the air, beating powerful wings harshly in order to catch up to the swift flying group. Craning his palomino head back once more to catch a glimpse of his home, he glided gracefully besides the brute (but not too close, for their wings would hit each other). Phoenix swore he recognized the man from somewhere, of course they were herd mates. "What's the trouble?" Vocals were worried, and he wondered if Godiva and Africa were protected with the rest of the Throat. Their pace continued briskly as they flew farther and farther away from the arid desert. Curiousity was burning, as the stallion seriously wanted to know what was the threat to the Throat.

They were heading in the familiar direction of the fabled Helovia's heart, a place where Phoenix had never been to. Well, there was always room for first times.
