Kiva glides along the clouds, the wind swishing under her unique wings and blowing her black mane into even more tangles. She curves down, swooping through a small hole in the canopy of trees over the deep forest, landing softly among the fallen leaves. She shakes out her mane, to no result, her curls staying as tangled as ever. Her purple eyes dart around the foreign place nervously, here only because the Sun God had required her to go. Nervous hooves plod along the greenery and her ears flick back and forth in paranoia. The trunks of the trees look like they have endured many a battle, with hoof marks embedded in the bark, as well as the sharp slices of horns. She trembles as she walks along the wooded road, the sun sinisterly gleaming on the marks in the pines surrounding her. She halts suddenly, coming upon a towering fir, looking much older than the mare, much older than Helovia. She glances up at the tree, searching along the bark and branches for a sign of anything that the Sun God sent her here for. A clear pool of water rests under the tall trunk; Kiva rushes towards it, thirsty after her flight, only to find it lined with blood-red rocks. She backs away, the sight of the color making her stomach sick, wishing for a sign from the god so she could leave as soon as possible.

The quiet, ever present chatter of the forest came to an abrupt end as the mare landed among the trees and began to wander. Slowly, it returned until it was full force, booming with exuberance. Crickets chirped, frogs croaked, and songbirds sang sweetly to the mare that had come.

Far too quickly the melody ended again and the birds that had been visible took to their nests. A shadow passed over the mare from above. A gap in the tree branches revealed an eagle circling overhead. It let out a deafening cry before diving through the trees.

Its gaze was set on a small flying squirrel that had not heeded the warning of the songbirds and hidden. It sat on a branch peering down curiously, entranced by the mare. By the time the squirrel finally looked skyward it was too late. The eagle was already upon it, its talloned feet wrapping tightly around the small, squealing squirrel.

The peaceful antics of the forest cease almost immediately, startling the small mare. Her purple eyes follow the birds flitting back into their nests at the sudden silence, wondering what had caused it. Kiva catches sight of a small furry animal perching on a branch, recognizing it to be a flying squirrel, a creature with wings just like hers. Her face lights up at the young furry thing and it stares back curiously at her. She giggles at its twitchy little nose, thinking it a beautiful creature with glorious red fur. Out of nowhere comes the eagle, snatching the little thing from its perch and grasping it in sharp talons. The mare is shaken by the sudden turn of events, but knows she cannot let this bird destroy her potential companion. Mustering all the courage she has, she yells, “Put it down, you great ugly vulture!” Her velvety ears twitch with fright for the little guy, and she hopes this eagle is not much of a threat.

The eagle's wings beat powerfully through the air as he carried his dinner away, clutched in his powerful feet. The shouting of the mare drew little more than a passing glance as the eagle flew away from her. It would take more than shouts from a pitiful, grounded mare to make him release his dinner.

Startled purple eyes watch as the bird of prey swoops higher, completely out of reach of the mare. Angrily, and with more fire she’d shone in a long time, she bounds across the forest floor jumping against the trunk of a tree, and springing off, while folding her front legs under herself. Her membranous wings extend from her sides and she soars high, following after the eagle. Slightly flapping, she increases her speed, closing the distance between herself and the pair, determined not to watch one more thing die. She comes right behind the eagle, her jaws approaching his wing, trying to pull the thing to the ground.

[OOC: Kiva’s wings don’t allow her to fly extremely well, so if this could carry down to the ground it may be better. But I am up for the challenge!]

An angry cry was torn from the eagle's throat when the mare grabbed hold of his wing. His large body turned in midair, one of his talloned feet releasing the squirrel while the other still held fast. That talloned foot clawed at the mare's face, neck, and throat while his free wing tried to beat her in the face. They were going down, it seemed, back to where the mare belonged. He screeched angrily again and began to bite at her face.

Kiva gasps as the eagle's talons rip at her face, small spots of blood dripping slightly in her eyes. She whinnies, frightened at the stench of blood she knows so well. She ducks as the wing flaps into her face and the beak snaps with malicious intent, still getting hit every so often. Gliding to the forest floor, she angrily spits out the eagle's wing, knowing it would twinge just enough for him not to fly away. Violet fire erupts in her eyes, watching the one taloned foot attached to the innocent creature. She would save it, no matter what it took.

They hit the ground and his wing was released from the wretched mare's jaws. Little twinges of pain shot through the wing and a glance at it revealed that she had damaged several of his feathers. Another angry screech was torn from him as he hopped and continued to try and beat the mare with his wings and claw at her with his one free foot. What the hell was her problem? He had done nothing to the mare. He'd only been hunting for his dinner and she had to attack him.

The bird looks frightened now, and angry at losing its food. Kiva feels guilty, wanting to help the bird find something to eat if it is hungry, but knowing she has to save the little red squirrel. Purple orbs dart nervously, her ears flicking back and forth, searching for sound.

For once, her paranoia comes in handy, picking up the scuffling sound of a field mouse by her hooves. The poor thing looks injured, not ready to hang on for much longer. The mare stoops to pick up the mouse by its tail in her teeth, staring at the eagle. “I’m so sorry I had to take your food. It’s just…this little squirrel is so young and healthy, while this mouse is ready to leave this earth anyway. You would be doing this little guy a favor by taking his life and ending his pain. This squirrel deserves to live. I am terribly sorry.” Kiva blinks at the bird, earnestly hoping he will understand.

The eagle's beak snapped together with an audible click! when the mare began to back away, only to come back to him with a mouse dangling from her lips. His head tilted as the mare spoke of eating the mouse because it had a lesser chance of survival. Eating injured animals just because they were injured was not normally in his nature, but this mare was adamant about it and wouldn't let him go until he had released the squirrel.

Without warning his head shot forward and he snatched the dangling mouse from the mare. It squealed but was silenced quickly by the eagle. Its bones snapped and crunched as he ate it, continuing to glare at the oddle winged horse. Once more the eagle's head shot forward and he snapped his beak at the mare's soft nose before releasing the squirrel and hopping away.

Staring at the bird, the mare watches as its sharp beak closes around the helpless mouse, and she has to turn away. The crunching of small bones still reached her ears, and she winces from the gruesome sound. Timidly, she turns her head back around to look at the mess the eagle has made, to find it gone, the cowering squirrel left behind on the ground, unharmed but shaken. The mare lowers her head, hoping not to appear threatening, and slowly walks closer to the creature. “It’s ok, little one. He’s gone now, there is no one that will hurt you. I’m Kiva. I’m your friend.” She smiles at the small thing, pity clear in her purple eyes, wanting to comfort the lovely animal.

The squirrel, frightened and shaken, looked up at the mare that had rescued it from the clutches of the hungry eagle. It inched toward her nervously. It stood on its hind legs as the mare lowered her head and touched its nose to her muzzle. Moments later the squirrel climbed up the mare's leg and settled itself comfortably on her back.

Congratulations!
The flying squirrel is now yours to play.
