The ashen brute walked daintily on his leaden daggers, thudding softly against the hard earth of the Steppe. It was much cooler up here, a little respite from the heat of the Tallsun. Andash hadn't quite made up his mind about what the Goddess of the Moon had planned to be his companion, but her words still rang clear in mind of her understanding for flight. He had been afraid that it would be too upsetting to be land-locked whilst he may be able to fly in the future. With a shake of his alabaster and sapphire silks, he rose into a slight trot until he came to a stunted tree, close to where the water rippled, tempting him to drink. The coolness of the water would be refreshing for his slowly burning mass.

The ashen beast stretched his muscular neck to allow his handsome crown a drink from the water, before lifting back up to take in the scenery. Whilst he investigated the horizon with his ice azure pools, he wondered to himself what it was he would find here. The quest was not going to be easy, perhaps, but he was willing to do anything for what he longed for. With a sigh, he waited for some sign from the Goddess.

Cold wind whipped past Andash, carrying on it the scent of blood. In the distance a mother puffin was slain and three of her eggs smashed. Only one egg remains and an arctic fox stands near it, licking his bloody maw for he was the one that had killed the puffin and smashed her eggs.

He sits, continuously licking his fur to clean the blood from it and make it pristine once again. Once finished he stands and inches his way toward the final egg, sniffing it. His maw opens and he closes it around the egg, intent on carrying it away and burying it until he feels the pangs of hunger rise again later.

The winds were chilly on his sturdy frame, but the ashen brute did not wither in its wake. It was actually refreshing to feel the cold against his thick pelt. But soon he sensed something that was neither refreshing nor welcome. Blood. Whipping his crown around to the location of the scent, pools growing wide, he stepped quick on his leaden daggers. The direction of the winds increased the difficulty as he pranced intently to where the scent derived, attempting to unbalance him. But with a determination written all over his crown, he did not succumb to being toppled over.

Soon he came to the site. On the cold ground lay a puffin, lifeless - slain. A pang of sorrow washed over Andash as he also witnessed three eggs smashed. Four lives lost. Rising his crown over the devastation and looking back round over the terra firma, he saw nothing. Yet closer to where he stood, he saw an arctic fox, moving swiftly towards the one remaining egg. One still lived! Intelligence told him that the creature was going in again to claim yet another life. Not if I have anything to say about it...

Andash moved swiftly with the dame determination towards the fox, his ears pinned back and daggers ready to pounce on the creature. The ashen pelt glowed with ferociousness in the light of the sun that was growing old and waning underneath the cold. With a deep, bellowing voice he attempted to scare away the foul creature from its next victim,
"Be gone, you have done enough damage!"

Oblivious to the pale horse's approach, the fox is startled by the bellowing voice. The egg that is held in his jaws falls from his grasp into the snow, sinking in a few inches. The fox spins around, his golden eyes finding the horse that has frightened him enough to make him drop what would have been in dinner in the near future.

Boldly, the fox snarls, his pearly teeth glinting in the sunlight. He is no fool, however. He knows that he cannot win against a horse that is intent on saving an egg. The fox snarls again then turns to retreat, but not before stopping at the body of the puffin and taking it with him.

Congratulations!
You have received a Puffin egg. You must hunt to provide the puffin with food upon hatching.

With the fox startled and rushing away on its paws, a moment of triumph overcame Andash as he realised that he just saved a life. Yet as the egg tumbled away into the snow, he soon came to terms with the fact that it had no one to care for. A small moment of genius surprised even himself. I could take care of it! Without thinking of it as a ludicrous idea, the ashen brute set about thinking about what it was the puffling would need when it hatched. Fish... Worms...

With a shake of his bleached and sapphire silks, he slowly closed in on the egg, paying attention not to harm it as he began to sniff to make sure that the egg was actually alive. Snorting, he turned away to find food for it when it was to hatch, if it would.

[OOC: Andash is off to search for food for the little puffling ^^]
