DRAGOMIR
hoping for the best, just hoping nothing happens

He stands quite disinterested in the ongoing events until Resplendence’s dragon hatches in the middle of Kaj and Kahlua’s meeting. It was all going as he expected, anyway; Kahlua was all laughter and sunshine and the others were as strange and foreign as they had always been, though he did recognize a face here and there and nodded his hellos when it was appropriate.

Even after a year in the land, he is still as uncomfortable as a baby bird in a pool of ice water among all these faces and voices.

A passing thought drifts across his mind when the pegasus known as Quilyan vows his life for those standing in the clearing with him, the young stallions pale blue eyes flashing towards him with a hesitancy to believe the words. Any of us? he thinks, but I do not know you.

Perhaps he has much further to go on his path of honor than he has once believed. A soft sigh escapes him at the thought, mind drifting back to the flow of voices and the progression of the minutes.

He lifts his eyes and ears to watch the birth of the hatchling with avid interest, however, all awkwardness forgotten in his excitement to witness the birth of something he has admired his whole life; its not that he hasn’t seen it before, just that it never seems to loose the wonder that accompanies it, the excitement of admiring whatever color it was born as.

This one is red, and quite fine. He smiles happily at the gardener for her new friend, though a pang of loneliness enters his heart that he too does not have one of his own. At least his parents can’t see him here, accomplishing nothing but stuffing quite a gruesome skeleton in his closet alongside a glimmering affection for a certain mare that he believed to be quite different than she truly was.

He feels an obligation to tell the gardener that she should find food for the hatchling, but he knows she has another companion already – surely she understands this. Instead, he’s left smiling stupidly at the cute lizard until Kahlua’s voice enters the subject of the crafters, a subject he finds interesting beyond belief (and not just because the Sunshower once worked the field herself), and later standing with his mouth slightly agape and an overwhelmed gleam to his eyes.

And I didn’t even bring her the palm leaves… he thinks, more sadly than he ever thought he would have when first approached about the task of exchanging a harness for treasures from the Throat. It had been the mare from the Grove that they’d gone to save… and they hadn’t done a very good job of it.

His soul was still black and there was no woman any longer to forgive him so that it might be clean.

Can’t she see it when she looks at me?

"Th-thank you," he finally manages to stammer, his head reeling and his heart aching in the wake of the stirred memory, only managing words because he figures others are looking at him and it is only proper to respond when such things as monumental career changes happen.

After her and with her, there were so many more that came – each familiar face greeted warmly (an especially happy whicker sent out to Brisa). Although Alysanne had sought out to join the Ferraden herd ranks, the only meetings she had ever been two had been here in Nocturne. A lot of it she still didn’t quite understand, why alliances were being abandoned for the time for example, and she made a mental note to try to get more involved with the politics. This was home, after all.

It didn’t take long for her to feel a little out of place, with all the greetings being passed between those that knew each other and yet she did not know them. There was the black and white unicorn standing near the edge of the group that was familiar – she had seen him briefly the last time she was in the Edge. Some offered up introductions which she happily took note of. Whether she knew them before now or not, they were all here for a single purpose and she loved them for that, loved the support that was being shown here.

There was some small commotion around Resplendence, and it would seem that there was a new companion! Although Ampere’s logic rang in her mind, how could this be nothing but a happy occasion? A new life, a new connection.

But all greetings and chatter amongst the group died when Kaj began to speak and her smile didn’t fade. Though she did not know him well, he spoke with a kind authority that she could respect – reintroducing them to the herd. Well, her smile did falter a little at the mention of fighting for their family. Of course Alysanne would do so, but if she had learned anything in the events that occurred since her return to Helovia it was that she was woefully unprepared to defend anyone. There were no instincts driving her to attack, no lessons from growing up that she could recall (all those she missed with her mother in favour of wandering the woods with her father).

How could she be a part of the herd if she would not be able to help them, to defend them?

But these were her thoughts, and they would later reach the decision that she would try to learn at least something, so she could be whatever the Edge and her friends needed her to be. Now, however, they were interrupted by the mention of her name from Kahlua – she was to be a healer! The others that had received higher ranks, Quilyan and Dragomir, accepted them with grace (even stammered grace) and yet all Alysanne managed in that soft voice of hers was “Are you sure?” But of course she was not ungrateful! This was an amazing opportunity. Perhaps she better elaborate. “I mean I’d be honoured, of course I’d be honoured and I’d love to, but… you did say Alysanne right? You’re sure?” This place felt like home to her, it had from the moment Kahlua placed on her the glass headband she still wore with pride, but it felt like she had only just arrived.

And only after the words were out did she consider how Kahlua would not have announced it if she wasn’t sure, if she didn’t have faith in her friend, but the Pegasus was a little out of her element. She had never received a promotion before!

have you seen that girl?

Gentle, shy steps are taken, hesitant to allow sunlight to shine through the glass of her frame. How long had it been? She could not recall the last time she saw the sky being so grey yet so beautiful, clouds letting loose drops of intricate flakes. Temperatures plummet as she trudges towards her home. Home, she plays with this foreign word, having not thought of a home for so long. She tosses the word around more, trying to figure out what this word meant— home.

Home meant a place where you were accepted, where no one rejected you, where you were all the same, all equal. Home is where your heart is, ubi sedes est cor tuum, as they say in her native land. At least, that's what she thinks they said. Home is where warm smiles greeted you every time you pass, a place that is open to your differences, and does not think they matter. Home is where one can blossom and bloom, grow along their own path.

She walks swiftly, not wanting to wait another second to see her family, the familiar fog that blanketed the snow covered woods, dropping down off the cliff face that leads into brilliant blue yet rocky waters. She stumbles forth, tripping over the roots of towering pines, excitement coursing through her soul as the sight of fog woven between great pines reaches her. Her [i]Lior[/], he is larger now, a dark being of night, pale silver moons twinkling as he struggles to stay on her back, leaving scratches upon her back from his sharp talons. During the last few days he had been gliding around her head, often leaving her side in the night to practice his flight. He screeches, flapping his wings to balance himself out as she jumps gracefully over a large root.

She hears voices, muffled by the amount of fog that lingers. Perking her fragile auds she wanders closer to them, eager to reunite with her herd. She can tell she is coming to the meeting late, but does not mind. She sees familiar faces that bring warmth to her heart, yet finds herself feeling an outcast, out of her place. She wanders aimlessly through the crowd, spotting the familiars. Nato, Nasreen, Resplendence, the panicked palomino from the caves— and Kahlua. Her heart skips a beat as she stares at the black and white beauty, standing so elegantly. A small ripple runs down her bodice, a rigid unease crawling through her hollow frame. She felt fear regain hold on her, talons digging into her pulsing heart. Lior brings himself upward, circling once around the gathered horses. Nodding her head, she brings him back with a simple nudge, an unspoken command that brings him back to her, perching on her quarters. She stands in silence while all those around her babble, greeting one another and exchanging words.
[so sorry this is so late]

the one with the fragile laugh and killer smile?
