The sun was setting fast over the horizon by the time that Andash had arrived at the the Heart of Helovia. The egg nestled inside a a makeshift hamper of badly woven twigs that made up a little nesting bag for the egg. The alabaster brute was certain that to keep it safe and well, it had to be stored somewhere warm until it hatched. The warmth of a mother would keep an egg alive, and he figured so could he.

He lay down the egg some way from the heat; better to be safe than sorry. Even though Orangemoon was settling in well, the sun still raged on in this area. The heat closer to the flames inside the mammoth hole was a torment for any beast, or any living thing for that matter. The only things that lay beside the heat were rocks, most charred and stained with damage. No herbage resided by it,
"Any living creature would be a fool to..." He remarked to himself knowingly. The sweat pouring off his now sodden pelt, the burly brute began to make his way back to unhatched egg, the orange and yellow hues of the flames casting a fiery silhouette around his frame as he turned his back on it. In the still area he could hear the small rumbles of flames crackling and the odd bird on the horizon, but he merely shrugged them off. Determination was one thing that was driving him now.

Priorities.

Carefully picking the egg back up in the twig hamper, he edged ever so slightly closer to the Heart, expertly skirting past the rocky obstacles. His pillars were tainted with dust from the driest part of Helovia, emitting a crimson glow. His orbs shone brightly, a mixture of azure and scarlet. Dancing cautiously to the left of him, he found a spot adequate enough for an egg to incubate. He lay down the egg. With his crown he pushed the egg on top of the makeshift twig bag for comfort, before laying down rather uncomfortably and keeping watch on the precious.
"I wonder when, if you will hatch, little one..."

Keeping one pool on the egg, the rest of his mind was free to wander and dwell. He wondered if this little puffling would live, and if he could show it to Xira. Not that she would care, he scolded himself. But there was no one that Andash had felt a connection with, and the bleached brute sighed with minor elation at her image. A true friend, and he could not deny this. He hoped that he would perhaps get to introduce the little baby to her. With this in mind he lay quiet and undetectable in the heat, waiting.

Hours passed. Hours led to days and days led to a week. Inside the shell life stirred as the baby puffin grew and became stronger thanks to the heat that was being provided by its caretaker.

The time came and the baby puffin began his escape from the shell that was becoming far too small for it. It's beak pecked at the smooth surface of the shell. A crack formed and spider webbed over the surface of it and continued to spread as the baby continued his attempt at escape.

A hole became visible in the surface of the egg. Finally, the puffin's beak broke through and the cracked eggshell began to crumble away. As its head poked out it began to chirp and squawk as it took its first breaths and began to demand food.

Andash waited. His endurance and patience soon paid off when the little egg began to crack and evolved into a little puffling. The life that lay before him made his azure pools open wide with bewilderment. He had saved it's life! He began to investigate the little baby, making note of it's scent and the way it acted. Everything was so new to the ashen brute, and being fatherless he had no real idea about what sort of care a newborn needed.

The puffling's chirps and squawks pierced his ears, but he did not feel the need to close his hearing from it. It was almost a comfort to know that the newborn was a fighter. It's cries prompted food. Andash began to scroll through all the options in his mind that a bird needed for sustenance. Worms? Fish? These were the only two ideas that actually made sense.
"Is that what you'd like, little one?" He mused quietly, not potentially aiming it at the little puffling that he had incubated for so long.

[OOC: Do I go about searching for food, not too sure, oops... Might sound like a stupid question but am I able to decide the gender and when do I suggest the name for the little companion?]

Andash's voice soothed the little puffling, momentarily quieting its cries for food. Its small body wriggled as if fought to free itself from the rest of the eggshell that was encasing it. The eggshell continued to crumble away as the puffling wriggled against it and pecked at it.

Finally, it gave way completely and the puffling rolled out and onto the warm ground. It stood, its large webbed feet looking much too big for its small body. The baby puffin waddled closer to Andash and cuddled itself close to the pegasus stallion's foreleg before looking up at him and squawking again.

Congratulations:
The puffin is now yours to play. You may choose its name and gender. You may also play out feeding it if you wish. Enjoy your Puffin!

[OOC: I'd like for the puffin to be a girl, and to be called Cenny, thanks!]
