The roan boy decided to follow him back into the edge, and he was rather pleased with himself. To have saved the life of an arrogant child, who didn’t know any better than leaving his mother at an early age simply to justify the fact he was ‘coming of age’. The crimson eyes of the obsidian stallion fell upon the foal that was at his side, as they moved into the clearing of the world’s edge, caution filtering through his movements as soldiers pivot upon his skull acting as radar for potential dangers. He would be thrilled, that now Quinn had joined the edge with him, and her mention of starting a family, how he desired to have children again, to raise a true warrior with hopes of not messing it up this time. And then, there was this child, this young cowboy that had the slang from unknown origin. Perhaps should the colt desire it, he could mentor if not father him for the time being. The chance to push some spunk into him when the time has come, and he is of age; the thought wasn’t a burden, but more so hopeful.

His motions slowed, pools glinting from the shards of shattered glass that cut against the gray skies. What was left of our defenses, our glass wall had fallen to darkness, its sharp crystal edges decorated with powder and ice. It was a depressing thing to witness, and the looming thought that danger still existed within these lands never left his mind. Not after that day, not after he watched his daughter become that thing, that thing he had to beat within the final breaths of its life to save her, unsure if it would work or not. And now, we were back. We are here again. I pause, hoping the colt wouldn’t advance without him into the open meadow, his voice deep and heavy poured from his lips in a cry of announcement, the arrival of someone new, that they weren’t dangerous.

"This, is the Words Edge." It wasn’t much to look at was it? The broken shards of glass, the dead timber in the distance, it wasn’t has he left it. But the child had to understand, it was still dangerous. "The darkness has changed it, but we are rebuilding." His voice regal, laced with power and determination, after all this is where his future family, his last generation was to grow up- it had to be perfect. "There are many here." Muzzle lowered as his neck arched, leaning down to gaze upon the boy, his serious gaze meaning life or death. "Just remember Cowboy, the land is not yet safe." It was a warning, perhaps for the foal to look out for himself. The serious motion of his gaze turned more soft as he smiled, massive cranium pressing against his side as he pushed the roan speckled boy in front of him, playfully, daring him to walk into the unknown.

The black and white unicorn had kept up a stiff pace the colt was rather proud of himself that he had managed to trot easily along side him. He had done good for a young stallion, but as they neared their final stop he had grown weary. His head and tail were not quite as high, despite doing his best to hid the fact. He noticed the stallion stiffen ever so slightly and turned his two toned eyes upon Nato curiously. He took the cue up himself and allowed his dishes to rotate and set his tiny nostrils quivering drawing in the scents around him. The roan colt could smell a faintly familiar scent that Nato himself carried; he assumed that was the scent of this herd. Hope flared deep within the boy's tiny chest, maybe this was the home he had been searching for. Would the others here allow the adventurous colt to be himself? If not he would stay until he had learned what he could from the strange unicorn beside him and set out again.

As they slowed a sigh heaved from the colt as he turned his gaze to settle on the strange land. Something shinny was towering before him, broken and glinting against the snow. Cowboy quivered with curiosity as he longed to investigate the strange sight, but Nato's cautious air held him back. He snorted lightly as his curiosity grew almost unbearably so. Pulling his different colored eyes from the scene the turned to the horned one beside him watching him for another cue. As the older stallion neighed into the day, announcing their arrival he guessed, the colt took up a relaxed posture cocking his left hind-leg. He turned his full attention to Nato as he spoke, and nodded softly. Between the snow, broken glinting thing, and the dead trees, Cowboy wasn't sure how it could be safer than the thick woods the black paint had found him it. He grimaced slightly, but it diapered almost as soon as it appeared.

Dismay and worry wasn't his thing he was more likely to laugh at danger than cower and run. He was interested as the stallion's tone changed dramatically. The colt was just about to ask what he meant, but the look in the scarlet eyes stopped him quickly. His ears pricked towards the stallion and he shifted his weight evenly to all four of his legs again. He might be a clown, and play almost everything off, but he always took looks and tones like Nato's seriously. Not safe the words echoed darkly in his head.He could hold his tongue no longer, "What do ya mean darkness? What do I haveta watch out fer?" His draw was as thick as ever, and was likely to never fade away. he titled his head with interest waiting for the reply.

The colt could not help but return the smile he was given, but he was not expecting this massive horned stallion to playfully push him. He took this as a challenge and flicked his tail up hoping to playfully slap the other's cheek before bouncing into the clearing past the tempting sparkling stuff. He squealed playfully as he sprinted into the strange land that was now his home. For all his adult dreams and questions he could not help but be a spunky playful colt as he ran. He kicked up his heels twisting in the air to land at a stand still facing Nato his head lowered; a crooked grin on his maw. His brown and blue muted eyes blazing in a playful challenge.

The king surveys his new land proudly. It is odd to call it his, but the crown on his cranium, no matter how weightless and devoid of matter it may be, is very real. The Goddess of Night herself had granted it to him. So without hesitation he took up the mantle and tried to do his best in the role he'd been so gifted to receive. But it does not mean old habits do not die hard. He still patrols regularly, accompanying his soldiers, mingling among them. He will not be a ruler that parades as a divine, for he is their equal in so many ways. It is not his desire to rule those who do not know him, nor boss about the unwilling and create a rift between the herd. Kaj knew all too well what could happen in such a situation, as he'd been the cause of it when Lace had been appointed WeyrLeader. But their titles had been abolished. All was new, a fresh slate to make their marks upon, and it was more of a burden off his shoulders than he cared to admit. Perhaps he would make fewer mistakes that way.

Speaking of his brethren...

One wing tilts, a flash of tawny in his peripherals as he peers down at the two at the borders, intrigued. Nato is hard to miss, one of the sole unicorns in his flock, but the youth at his side is not someone he knows. Perhaps a new recruit? But as he watches, the colt flicks up his heels and prances into the new land. Kaj quirks a brow, not sure how to feel about his behavior, but deciding if Nato had recruited him that he was not too much of a threat. It didn't mean he couldn't emphasize his abilities of flight, however, and maybe introduce himself to the energetic stag as well. Humming softly to himself, he smiled wistfully and tilted a wing. The air rushed over the tops of his wings as he spiraled, careful to keep the frisky fellow in his sights beneath the boughs of the trees still bare with Frostfall's bite. As the branches kissed his hooves he spotted the next open area, tucked in his wings tight like a sparrow, and dove down into it. Immediately they opened again beneath the canopy, safe from the twigs above, and he landed with a solid thump before the gallivanting youth. Turning he shuffled his wings and rolled his large shoulders, a curious but guarded look upon his face, a distant smile curling his lips.

"Hello, young one," his voice rumbled like thunder, true to his title, but the smile was opposing the rather intimidating depth of his vocals. "Welcome to the World's Edge. I'm Kaj, the King of these lands. I assume Nato brought you?" Golden aurals flicked curiously, and he peered around the exuberant child to look for the Protector himself. The old warrior was a familiar face, and Kaj's softened in response, a warm smile stretching his lips as he moved closer to the wise fellow. "Ah, Nato," he greeted warmly, extending a muzzle in his direction, at his leisure to decide whether to return the gesture or not.

"You've done a fine job. Thank you." Icy blue eyes turned back to Cowboy, and he chuckled softly in the depths of his chest as he moved to return to the child's side. "Tell me young one, what is your name, now that I have told you mine?"

The obsidian knight elevated his head once more as the copper colt, cowboy inquired against his statement of darkness. Not wanting to scare the boy, he rolled his shoulders and rested a hoof behind him, his tail delicately fluttering against the breeze. "Just stay out of the shadows, and into the light." He grinned, the playful motions of the colt as he danced away with a rather impressive leap. Crimson eyes watched the motions of the colt as his springy stepped bounded around with his stride, and his sudden turn of playful challenge.

The beast grinned, his crown lowered in a powerful stance, hooves kicking into motion has he gave chance to the child with a deep rumbling laugh. He… the demon in black, was laughing for the first time in years. Hooves thundered against the earth, lips parting as he nipped playfully against the colts rump. His movements halted however when the sound of beating wings thundered through the silent air. Crimson pools turned to rest upon their king, their leader fluttering down upon the cold barren earth. It was he, who had welcomed him into these lands alongside his companion Lace. And now, he had moved to the head of the heard, perhaps.. he wouldn’t fail as his friend did.

Lobes lazed back as his stance constricted into a more respective stance, his voice clearing as he listened to Kaj address the colt. A presenting bow was given to the storm bringer, as he looked down upon the colt, giving a look of warning not to do anything stupid in the presence of royalty. A general nod was given to Kaj as he praised the black knight for a job well done. "Good ‘eve Kaj." He breathed, his tone deep but respectful. What would the Pegasus king think of a unicorn taking in a equine colt? Perhaps it would be rather weird. He couldn’t help he had a soft spot for children. He watched, and said nothing as the king questioned the name of the child. He would let him speak for himself. It was all a part of the learning process.

COWBOY
I pray that God will give me courage
To carry on 'til we meet again

The colt was very confused as to what the much older stud meant, but he would take his words to heart and follow them. A squeal of laughter ripped from his lunges as the stud accepted the challenge. He grumbled jokingly bucking his head towards the horned stud. It was very odd how this adult was playing, in his homeland the adults had never played or even joked with the youngsters. He shrugged mentally and watched the stud carefully with his two toned eyes.

A sudden sound made the colt look around, what in the world could be making a sound like that? As he glanced around a massive shadow fell over the pair and the next thing he knew a new winged stud pounded the ground behind him. He spun quickly sides heaving he stood with his long legs spread out in a ready to run stance. His orbs roved slowly up the tan stud's thick set frame. Cowboy straightened up head held high as he gazed cautiously up at the newcomer. His deep voice grumbled, but something told the young colt he was not a threat. He cast a glance at Nato, searching for a sign of danger.

At the mention of king the young stallion dropped to a low respectful bow for a moment before rising again. He nodded softly and spoke in this squeaking foal voice, "Yes sir, Mister Nato brought me here." He listened curiously as Kaj spoke to the black splashed stallion. Bright eyes followed the male's movement, bringing him closer to his own side. Dipping his red head low he spoke again, "I'm Cowboy, it's a pleasure sir." He paused turning his head to look at the king, "I was hopin' to make a home here, if you would allow me to, Sir Kaj." He bowed again as he awaited the stallion's decision.
