The mare's head was still spinning with all that had happened to her and poor Ilios the day before. She had been tormented by her herd, until she could not take living with them any longer. She was just done with always looking over her shoulder to make sure she was going to be safe. Now she had her sweet foal to look after was well as herself, she had left. Tears rolled slowly down her face as she walked on. Leaving the heard had not been all good, she had been forced to separate from her mate. Pain ripped at her heart as she thought of the silver dappled knight. Even though they were separated now he was still and always would be her only love. She vaguely understood why he had staid behind, his new position in the Falls had been a great triumph for him. "But we're his family..." She sobbed softly making a light choking sound.

Her new hybrid foal had not wondered far at all. He could sense his mother's depressed state and refused to leave her, much like Penna. The falcon had been hoovering mere inches from the cremello painted mare's head. He had long given up the attempt of trying to console his bonded. His own heart was broken, he had grown to enjoy the stallion's company and trust him. That trust had been broken, and Penna as well as Parelia felt betrayed.

They had stopped often allowing the young buckskin and teal colt to rest and eat, as well as time for the mare to think. "We have to find a new home my dear Ilios." She spoke softly as the foal tucked himself under her warm belly to suckle. Where they going to go? A thought hit her, well more like two names: Africa and Alysanne. Africa was the ruler of the Dragon's Throat, but Parelia could not see herself living in the desert. She would try the World's Edge, if that didn't go well, she would go to the Throat. The mare figured it would be best if they took a short nap with Penna keeping watch above their heads before heading off.

After what seemed like forever they reached the outskirts of the wooded herd-lands. She gazed in awe up at the shattered glass wall before them. "Stay close sweetheart, we're in someone else's land." She turned her head towards the handsome foal her honey orbs were puffy from crying on and off for two days. Sighing she lifted her gaze up towards the sky. The sun was almost at it's highest and the day was growing very hot. Lifting her head she let out a loud whinny calling for someone to come, and quickly. She needed to get Ilios somewhere cool and safe before he became to hot.

Growing season was Alysanne’s favourite, and with Birdsong growing old there was plenty of growth to occur! Now that the herb garden was back on track, she had been spending a little bit of time every morning standing in it – using her little magic trick to give the herbs a bit of help. It felt a little counterproductive, standing in the garden and using magic that wasn’t immediately visible, but hopefully with time they would see a difference! And besides, she was always careful not to tread on the plants that were already there.

All the while, she chatted happily to Hemlock who was snoozing – or pretending to snooze – in his favoured spot in between her ears. As the day grew older, they left the herb garden and were just thinking of what they could do next when a call sounded across the Edge that brought any half-baked plans to a stop. Though Alysanne was sure that she recognized the voice she had some difficulty placing it to a face. She knew it, that much she knew, but not well enough to suspect that it was one of her herd mates. Perhaps one of her friends that she had made in the caves? Or elsewhere? In fact, it wasn’t until she actually saw the pretty little pegasus that Alysanne placed it properly. Parelia! She remembered the mare fondly from their meeting not long after they were all able to return from the caves. Her little hawk would be grown up a fair bit now! Hopefully he was doing well.

After giving Hemlock fair warning to cling on tight, Alysanne picked up a canter that ate up the distance between them. “Parelia! Penna!” She called out to them both, knowing the hawk would not be far and wondering whether he was doing well. Between her ears, Hemlock ruffled his down feathers with what could be best described as ‘distaste’ as he examined the group that they were meeting with. She could feel him dig in slightly tighter with his talons before loosening them once more. He better be careful, or she’d be missing chunks of her hair before long!

As she drew closer she realized there was a little colt by her friend’s side. Oh how delightful! Alysanne had a soft spot leagues wide for foals, especially the foals of her friends! “And who is this handsome fellow?” Bright was her smile as she asked the question, coming to a stop before them, but as the rest was completed her summer-green eyes turned to Parelia and the smile faded. The signs that the mare she had met once, but considered a friend, had been crying were plain to her. “Oh, my dear, are you alright? Are you hurt?” Concern softened her voice as she took another half step forward – looking over the pair for anything obvious.

Voices awoke the grey mare from her less than comfortable nap beneath a couple trees, it was impossible to get comfy when you had a difficult time moving any particular way from side to side. Opening her blue orbs she glanced over to her side knowing it was becoming all too hard to deny the fact that with each passing day she was growing larger. In the beginning she had hoped that it was just a figment of her imagination but this time she couldn't pass it off as nothing. Groaning she stretched her forefeet out before her before heaving herself back to her feet once more. She would have to tell her friends about her predicament before they found out for themselves, granted since she had spent so much time away from the herd it would be quite noticeable already on her small frame. How hard was it to miss her swollen belly unless you were blind, alas more things she had to cope with.

Pricking her ears she again tuned into the voices only to recognize one without a doubt as Alysanne and the second as another she could not place her name. Snorting she tuned towards the pair curious to figure out why the second mares voice was so familiar. As the pair came into view she finally figured it out bringing a smile to her face, Parelia! It had been quite awhile since she had seen the mare but she was happy that she was here at last and with a baby! Walking up she was about to greet her friends happily but the greeting died on her lips as Parelia's saddened expression registered, oh no what was wrong? " Parelia? what happened, whats wrong?" She asked casting a sideways glance at Aly to see the same worry as she felt, what was going on?

Ilios soon had his fill and stood quietly beside his mother gazing around with his bright silver eyes taking in everything around them. The sound of hoof beats brought the trios attention towards a swiftly moving figure. Parelia and Penna both recognized the mare instantly. The cremello mare struggled to pull her mask on, trying to hide her feelings, but she didn't have the strength to do so. Her heartbroken state was very clear, in her puffy eyes, her drooping ears, and lowered head. She let out a soft nicker in greeting to the black painted mare. Her voice was dripping with the pain that leaving Ciceron had made, "This is my son, Ilios." A small smile covered her maw as she gazed down at the buckskin and teal colt. He was looking curiously at the new mare and took a slow step forward wanting to meet the new person. His tiny ears pricked forward as he watched her. He wondered as he looked at his mother for guidance. Parelia dipped her head towards the mare, telling him it was safe to meet her. The hybrid pranced forward clumsily his tiny horned head tilting up towards the black and white face. Sniffing softly he extended his muzzle towards her.

Alysanne's voice drew her eyes back towards her friend. her voice was soft but audible, "Not in any physical way Alysanne..." She was just about to speak again, when another mare appeared. She also knew this mare, she had helped draw help to her, after she had been attacked. Ilios came scampering back to his mother, almost falling in the process. Parelia spoke once again, "Brisa it's nice to see you again. No I'm not physically hurt. I had to leave my mate, Ciceron, so I could feel safe..." She sighed heavily her head lowering even more reaching out to touch her son, trying to draw comfort from him.

Penna wheeled over head for a moment before landing softly on his bonded's withers. He drew his beak softly through her short mane, trying his hardest to ease her pain. Forcing her eyes to lift towards the two mares she spoke again her voice desperate, "I've brought us here to find a new home. I... I can't live with those crazy creatures anymore." She gazed helplessly up at them fear pulsing through her veins. The colt peered around his mother looking at the strangers with wonder plain in his silver eyes. She didn't think Ilios could manage the trip to the Dragons Throat safely if they turned them away. ’Oh Gods please show me the way...' She thought her wings sliding from her sides to brush the ground. The poor mare felt as if she had been defeated.

When the little colt moved forward to greet her, Alysanne’s eyes simply shone. Foals would always bright a light to her unlike anything else - she remembered her own son at this age with fondness. And a brave colt this Ilios was to be commended! She lowered her head, using slow movements so as to not spook him, and reached out her muzzle to bump softly against his. “Hello Ilios.” She managed to whisper softly before their company was joined by another – before their attention returned to Parelia.

As always, it was wonderful to see Brisa but both of their attentions were clearly clouded with worry about the softly coloured pegasus and her son before them. Something was just not right and she was glad to see that she wasn’t the only one picking up on it. Luckily, it was confirmed that nothing physical was wrong with the pair before them. Still, Alysanne knew well that not all wounds were physical and she worried about what else was happening with them.

Though Parelia does not offer specifics, her distress is obvious enough that Alysanne would not ask for details. What mattered that she was here and if they could ease her burden just a little bit perhaps that would help. “Oh I’m so sorry Parelia. But of course you’re welcome to stay here. The Edge is open to you! We’re a peaceful herd and any that keep with that philosophy are welcome.” She did not imagine that Parelia would have any issue with that – she had no impression of the mare that made her question whether she’d fit in well here at the Edge.

Still, a glance was cast at Brisa to ensure that her friend thought the same. And then a renewed smile appeared in those bright green eyes when she looked back to the trio of mother, companion, and son. “Come on, let’s go inside. You’ll be safe here.”

Watching the sweet pegasus and her son was heartbreaking, they clearly had been through much in their short time together and didn't know where to turn next. There had been a time in her life where she had felt similar and it was not a good feeling, others had swept her into Helovia making her feel welcome and safe this was the time to return the favor to another pair in need. How dare the stupid stallion leaving them or making them leave for that matter, it was his loss if he did not see what was right in front of him. Anger flashed in her mind in detest for the situation, maybe she should go give him a piece of her mind that would teach him. As the thought crossed her mind she was surprised by such a thought considering she would never be the one to do something like that, but then there was that one instant with Ampere maybe she did have a side she did not know much about unless... her thought drifted to the creature deep inside her womb, no it couldn't be could it?

"Well it is his loss, you will both stay here with us." She commented chiming in after Aly had finished speaking with a very similar conclusion. Stepping forward she gently reached out nudging Parelia's shoulder with a smile motioning the direction deeper into their land. "Ilios will be happy here and so will you."

Her gaze swept over to Aly for a moment hoping she was saying the right things, she wanted to make the pair feel comfortable here as much as possible. In the past she did have a rather glitchy reputation of not explaining things the way she intended them often confusing herself and everyone around her, she hopefully had gotten much better at that now. Watching Ilios out of the corner of her eye she still felt weirdly awkward around the colt, would this be how she would react when her own child was born? Was she just incapable of being a mother and feeling the way she should? Everything seemed to come so easy to the other two mares with her why couldn't she seem to find the proper frame of mind when it came to young foals.

The small mare was starting to feel a little better, more hollow now than sad. She watched her foal as Alysanne touched his muzzle. He squealed with delight and sniffed at her face. The appearance of Brisa sent him ducking under his mother though. As the three mares talked he cautiously crept back out wanting to meet the silvery mare now. He cocked his head as he look in her rather plain looks. She had no horn or wings, was something wrong with her? Pushing the thought aside he stepped towards her and waited. If she ignored him he would just go back to the black painted mare, she was friendly enough. As both of the taller mares before her agreed she could live within their herd Parelia felt weak with relief. Ilios, Penna, and herself had a home they could feel safe in; with friends for them as well. There was a nagging thought in her head and she voiced it, "Do I have to meet a leader before I will truly be accepted though?" How long would the mother and foal pair have to wait before they could really call the Worlds Edge home?

She sighed softly and gazed at first Alysanne then Brisa searching the pair for any misgivings. They both invited her in and she reached for Ilios as he looked back and forth between the two mares, he jumped slightly when his mother's warm muzzle touched his rump. "Come on love, we're going to see our new home." She smiled and bumped her chiseled head against his already rounding hindquarters. He was going to grow into a fine stallion, just as his father. The broken pieces of her heart twitched with renewed sorrow. How was she ever going to be herself again with her silver knight somewhere else? Pausing to shake her short teal streaked mane she lifted her head and wings up striding towards her friends. She stopped between them and reached out to Alysanne first hoping to touch her shinning black neck, before turning back to Brisa attempting to do the same. Her voice was soft, as she tried to gather her dignity, "Thank you both for welcoming me into your home. I'll do anything the herd needs me to do to be a good member." She smiled softly meaning every word of what she had just said. Ilios pranced to his mother side in an awkward way still not used to his long spider like legs.

As she might have expected, Brisa spoke to the same effect as she had - welcoming the family before them into the Edge with a bright openness. When she met the white mare’s gaze, picking up on the question there, she reassured her with a bright smile. She had spoken the truth! This land was bountiful with fun for a young colt, and with the season he would be sure to find many friends his age.

But then there was another question, spoken aloud this time and by Parelia, that took her attention before they could move on past the crumbling glass wall. It was a good question and showed how well the pegasus mare was used to the customs of Helovia and the herds that resided here. “Not unless you want to. I’m one of the council members here so I can officially accept you into our herd.” This would be the first time Alysanne was able to welcome someone officially into the herd herself! Her smile remained bright and her tone was humble - this was not a mare used to having a position in a herd. “Perhaps once you’ve rested we can see if we can find our Kaj or Kahlua - they’re our king and queen - just so you can meet them.” They were a delightful pair, their king and queen, and Alysanne felt sure that they would welcome Parelia and her son into the herd. They were not the type to turn away anyone that needed help!

There would be time for such introductions later, however. She imagined there must be a incredible weariness on their minds. With Brisa and Alysanne each on one side of Parelia, the group moved across the border - easily navigating through the ruins of the wall. She accepted the touch from the dear mare with a smile and moved aside a little after to make room for Ilios if he wanted to catch up. Before them stretched the beauty of the Edge, the tall evergreen trees stretching straight to the sky - the rolling slopes dappled with rocks and lush spring grass. “You are most welcome! I think you’ll all fit in here quite wonderfully. You don’t have to worry about anything quite yet, of course, but I imagine it’s all set up quite a bit like the other herds with different jobs and areas for everyone. Brisa and I are both part of the healers, for example.” Before they launched into any in-depth sort of explanation, best to wait and see whether Parelia was interested in hearing about them all right now.

It could always be saved for another time, after all!

One of the things she had admired about the pegasus mare and co-healer buddy right from the very beginning was her ability to say exactly what was needed. Nodding in agreement she couldn't help the friendly smile that spread across her face. She was glad that Parelia had decided to come to the Edge instead of travelling to any of the other herds, she was well suited for how everything was right here with them. Who knows maybe over time she would become the fourth musketeer of their little trio, the thought made her chuckle softly.

Turning her head in the direction of Parelia's colt as he approached cautiously she nickered softly to him extending her muzzle towards him in greeting. His markings were unusual but very pretty on him, if only she had something other than plain old white to make herself unique. "Hi Ilios." She commented gently with a smile in his direction hoping to encourage him that she was no threat to him. She may not be the best at knowing how to interact with foals but she would have to learn and soon considering her own impending motherhood that still scared her half to death. Maybe Ilios could help her to learn what to expect for her own baby, it was a thought.

"I'm sure you will find something you will enjoy here very quickly." She commented agreeing with Alysanne once again. " Ilios will make friends here easily as well, he is a very handsome colt. I'm expecting a baby soon as well so I am sure they could become buddies as they will be of similar age, only if your ok with that though." She figured she had better add the last part into her sentence so Parelia didn't think that she was demanding it. They had both been through a lot and would never dream of forcing them to do something neither of them wanted to do.

It had been a long hard trip for the trio; the young foal was quickly tiring physical, while is mother and her bonded were drained mentally. The falcon had tried his best to push away the heartbroken mare's feelings, but her pain was so deep it even made his skeptical heart twinge with pain. His dark eyes moved slowly over her defeated soul-mate and her new son. Penna knew he had to help and that was that, but how? The image of a white cat trying to pounce on him swam through his mind. That was it Ciceron's cat, surely he was just as upset and that meant the cat would be hurting too. Maybe he could try to figure out a way to explain they needed to get the two horses back together. He made up his mind then he would have to find that creature and figure something out.

The mare smiled softly as she struggled to regain her composure fighting to pull her mask of emotionless back on. It was futile though, the best she could do was straighten up and smile weakly. She tucked the names Kaj and Kahlua into her memory bank so she could show the proper respect for her leaders when she ran into them. Ilios nickered his own greeting up at Brisa as she smiled at him. He swished his tail happily before scampering off in search of trouble to get into.

The glass walls made her think of someone and a deal she had made a long time again, when she had still be heavy with Ilios. She cocked her head slightly as she walked between the two mare Ilios racing past herself and Alysanne to trot ahead sniffing at everything. Her voice was firm but loving, "Sweetheart leave that glass alone! It might hurt you Ilios." The foal stopped short of the sharp glittering glass and turned his handsome buckskin and teal face towards here. It was clear he hadn't understood everything she had said, but if she had spoken in that tone mother was serious. He nickered softly before trotting off again through the shattered glass. Parelia was already feeling better as she strode between her two friends into her new home. The tall trees gave off a welcoming warm scent and she felt safe here. This would be her forever home from now on that was very clear to her.

As honey orbs fell on her colt's ivy markings the image of her knight flashed into her head. it took all of her self-control not to fell to the ground with a scream of pain how could he have just let them walk away? 'Fine if he really doesn't want to be with us, we'll be fine on our own.' She thought stubbornly, but a small chirp from Penna drew reminded her she would never be the same. Shoving the thoughts away she listened to Alysanne then to Brisa and addressed Brisa first. "Are there many foals here for him to play with?" She hoped so, maybe he could make a life long friend so he would never truly have to be alone, even when she was gone. For the first time she noticed how her white sides were stretched wider than they had once been. Bright eyes twinkled as she spoke warmly, "I can see he is going to have a younger playmate, am I right?" She smiled softly and flicked her tail playfully towards the white rump beside her.

After Brisa replied she turned her attention back to Alysanne's earlier words and thought only for a second of becoming a healer. She would love to learn how to ease pain and fix broken and bleeding bodies, but the roar of battle called her name. Her mother had named her "fighter" for a reason. Her voice tinkled from her soft lips, "I think I would like to be a warrior. I know you said this was a peaceful herd, but surely you have an army?" She looked from one face to the other before adding, "I would love if you two could teach me a little bit about healing herbs though. I made a deal with a very tall stud one time that I would bring him herbs in exchange for some glass work." She thought back to that day in the caves while Penna soared easily over head and Ilios slowed to a tired walk his tail and head slowly drooping.

Not for the first time and certainly not for the last, Alysanne marvelled at how wonderful a mother Brisa would make when it was her time. She knew the sweet, snow-coated mare had her doubts and concerns that were well founded given her history but Alysanne had faith in her. She looked at her proudly when she mentioned that she would be having a foal as well, someone that little Ilios could have as a friend when they arrived. To see foals playing and hear their sweet laughter again! It was something that the pegasus had been missing sorely from her life.

She looked forward to it being that season, when the world was bright with light and joy.

Though ‘warrior’ might not have been her first guess for Parelia, the fact that she showed interest in it was incredibly impressive. It was not for Alysanne, though she had recently taken up lessons so that she might be prepared to defend her home and her family, and she had respect for anyone that chose to follow that line of work. “Yes! We do have an army. If only the world were kind enough that we would not need one. I don’t know who is in charge right now, I think there was going to be a competition?” Here she looked to Brisa, wondering if the white mare was perhaps a little better informed than her. The last she had heard of it was at the herd meeting. “But Kaj used to be among them so he would be able to give you a bit better direction on how to get involved. We can definitely help you with the herbs though! Whenever you’re ready, you can find either one of us. I’ll even be happy to watch Ilios while Brisa shows you all that she knows.”

Green eyes followed Ilios and his movements - picking up on his tired looks. “I think someone needs a nap. There’s a nice little spot not too far in, among the pines. We’ll show you there and you can all rest up.” It is an offer, not a definitive command, and if Parelia had other plans of course it was up to her. They had all had such a long day, Alysanne just wanted their arrival in the Edge to be as smooth as possible.

Feeling her face flush as attention was momentarily switched over to the fact that she was pregnant, she nodded in confirmation chuckling softly. There were times such as this where things felt right, times where she could manage to get a little bit excited about her looming baby. The feeling lasted for a moment or two before it faded away as the conversation changed back to its original context. Hearing Parelia suggest that she wanted to become a warrior she was surprised given the fact that Ilios was with her still and would be for quite awhile. It would never be an option that would pass over her mind, she was the farthest thing from a violent or courageous type. Then again there were those random times that she had felt like it as of lately but she pinned it all down to hormones messing with her head.

The picture of her trying to live up to a warriors duties was actually quite entertaining. All she could imagine was trying to march into battle should the need ever arise, she would be a basket case jumping out of her skin at the smallest thing. She wouldn't be able to fight any battles unless it was one made up of hiding from everyone and running away. Chuckling silently she turned her head over to Alysanne as she spoke. The thought of the latest challenge left a bad taste in her mouth. Out of the warriors that fought for the title her attention had been more or less focused on one, Note. Not only was he a likely candidate for being the father of her child he was also disappearing as if nothing had happened between them. With everything going on she had not even told him that she was pregnant in the first place. If he cared he would have been able to notice by now or at least have the decency to ask. Hmmpf stupid stallions.. she thought bitterly.

"I don't know what came of the challenge either, surely Kaj would be able to point you in the right direction though." She commented gently with a nod. Following Aly's gaze over to Parelia's colt she only faintly noticed the exhaustion written over his face and over his mothers. Well that was fail number one for her at attempted mothering, how did Alysanne become so good at knowing this just by gazing over at him? Great just another skill she would have to pick up before her own baby came into the world, she was already doomed to failure.
