DALIBOR
I will fail you, of that I'm sure

A new season, a new place to patrol. Dalibor wasn't there yet. He decided since he hadn't been up north until now, he would explore a little bit. Maybe run into a few unicorns. Maybe kick their assess.

He was in a good mood. For once.

It seemed he would be paired once more with Andromeda for this patrol, and this pleased him greatly. His unannounced and likely foolish affection for Africa was likely to go nowhere; he wasn't idiotic enough to think the leader of the Dragon's Throat would take to him. She was too busy, had too many responsibilities, too many other admirers, he was sure. The starry pegasus, on the other hand, struck him as a less social type given that she barely spoke to him the last they were together.

That was fine. He liked that. She hadn't judged him or run from him - right now, that was all he wanted. Someone who wouldn't be horrified in his presence and who he could feel...normal around. Around another equine being, those who didn't hate him were few and far between.

Those who wanted his presence, even fewer. Only Africa and that addled unicorn...Oxy...had ever asked him to be a part of something. Oxy hadn't specified his herd. Did he live here, up north, in the Basin? Dalibor didn't know. The air was colder here, the vegetation different. Less seasonal and more perennial.

More aware of regions and boundaries than one might assume, Dalibor knew he was not yet in the Basin lands, so he was not trespassing - but the figure of a unicorn approaching in the distance still made him tense, ready for battle.

The snort that escaped his maw when he saw it was the very druggie bastard he'd been thinking about was deeply amused. "You. Do you remember me?" he called out, announcing himself unceremoniously. The unicorn hadn't been very smooth at their first meeting, and had set a precedent, the pegasus believed.

OOC: Setting this after Oxy meets Torleik and wanders away; figured it was a decent enough place since the Oxy/Torleik thread was sorta near the end of Birdsong and whatever just accept. lol.

How did you end up in the snow anyways? You snort your disapproval at the endless ice and smash one of your shodden hooves down into the frozen ground, expecting it to give way to your might and sorely disappointed when it does not. Maybe you would have remembered that the earth doesn't give way to you just because you demand it if you hadn't been busy getting so resoundingly high in the presence of that rabicano general of the Basin. But, as your hoof is no worse for the wear, you guess that if you had to choose between being sober and making the earth move or being high and having it resist your force that you would choose the second one. What good is being able to put a dent in the earth anyway?

Of course, nobody is ever really left alone for long in Helovia. If you actually believed that the Gods cared enough about the lives of mortals to interfere, you might think that they purposefully (for the sake of pure amusement) force antisocial creatures into situations they do not want to be in. Your obviously important musings on the cost-benefit analysis of being high vs. moving the earth is interrupted by a voice that is... distantly familiar. You angle yourself towards the sound and continue to walk.

Did he remember. There were very few things he remembered with clarity, but meeting this strangely colored brute of a pegasus was actually a moment that was fairly easy to picture. It had nothing to do with the pegasus, of course. It actually had everything to do with one idiotic blue mare, who Oxy now knew to be Ampere, falling from a tree and electrifying all plant life within a 20 foot radius. Idiot. The curiosity of your companion compels you to give her a quick rundown of the scene from start to finish, brief flashes of hazy images that she's grown more than accustomed to looking at. Of course, this means you've taken quite a long time to answer and so your companion decides to answer for you. As you stop somewhere near the pegasus, the boggart shifts down beside you and turns into the image of crackling electricity, bursting outwards in a harmless display before returning to her naturally invisible state. “What.” is your rather intelligent addition to her greeting. Eloquent as ever, obviously.

Dalibor hadn't the slightest inkling of how close he'd just come to meeting someone who would have attempted to murder him on the spot - not that he would have cared all that much. He'd have welcomed the challenge and embraced an honorable warrior's death if it was his time. Staying alive wasn't something he would put too much effort into if the death that welcomed him was a worthy one. He still loved his former mate and wanted to make her proud of him, somehow, to make up for his sins, but the life of a lonely, bereft fighter wasn't one to pour yourself into keeping.

Had Dalibor been privy to Oxy's self-important musings he might have agreed about the nature of the gods. He wasn't too fond of them. But he wasn't, so he spoke and demanded some attention from the larger brute, watching the addled beast turn and creak towards him. Oxy'd heard him, then, even if he neglected to speak. That was fine with the pegasus. Hawkish eyes caught sight of something shifting into blue electricity near the unicorn and he tensed, noticing, however, that Oxy seemed unaffected by this display. Magic, maybe? A visible memory? Ampere was also one he wished to speak to, but she had utterly disappeared - and after taking rule of the Dragon's Throat, no less.

Coward.

The brusque greeting deterred the rusty roan little. "I wanted to speak with you, if you're coherent enough for that," Dalibor returned succinctly, waiting to see if this was even worth his pause on the way to his patrol.

The biting wind blows feverishly across the vast, open expanse that you and this other stand upon and, absently, you remind yourself to stay the fuck away from this place from now on. You're no stranger to cold, no stranger to the elements, and yet... Why freeze your ass off when you don't have to? You've got a better place to go, for sure. The inhabitants of your home aren't the most inviting in the world, but the greenery is good enough. Besides, you suppose that enough of the crazies have figured out by now that you don't care to interact with them and they've taken to leaving you well enough alone.

But this man... You snort softly. This man has clearly not learned to let you be. If you're sober enough? You cock your head slightly. Even at your highest of moments, you're perfectly capable of holding an almost coherent conversation. At least for a moment or two. And your companion, as useless as she tends to be, is rather good at helping you along.

You consider just repeating your brusque 'what' from before in response to his statement, instead of putting any real work into this conversation, but then, you must consider other options. This beast was quick enough to jump to fight the last time you met him. Perhaps... just perhaps he will be useful in joining your small crusade against the tyranical herd leaders that you oppose. “What do you need?” you finally decide on, not much less curt then before, but at least proving yourself open to a little bit of conversation.
