déodat,

The morning was shifting to noon, and Déodat had already found himself tired and worn. As was typical, he awoke well before dawn and began his first patrol and then began his personal training. Then there was finding food for Odette when she joined him some time well after dawn. He then again went out and patrolled simply for the sake of having something to do. Upon returning back to the safety of the Basin he found himself tired and ready to rest.

He occupied some time by seeking out small meals and a drink from the lake. Now that his stomach was filled and thirst quenched he decided perhaps a bath would be wise. Déodat slipped to the hot springs, and much to his pleasure, found it unoccupied. Odette followed alongside him and she stared at the water and then looked up at him. Curiosity sparked in her mind and he smiled down at her mischievously. He pressed is nose to the pup’s side and gave her one good shove and she fell into the water with a loud yelp. She paddled along and managed to make it back to the side of the spring and Déodat grasped her scruff and dropped her onto the ground at his feet. He was laughing softly all the while.

He stepped into the waters and gave out a long sigh. The heat relaxed his tense muscles and washed the sweat from his sides. Déodat dove his neck down into the pools below and closed his eyes as the hot waters washed over his body. Really he needed to give himself more time to relax. Moments like this were a treasure in his mind. Anyone that truly knew the beast that was Déodat, they would know pure bliss was a rarity, but in that moment he was completely at peace. The expression on his face was tranquil and his body language told of just how relaxed he was.

Of course, his bliss had to be broken by the loud yapping of Odette. He lifted his neck out of the water and glared at the pup as she barked, but it registered in his mind she sensed another. “Oh shut up Odette,” Déodat snapped. “Whoever it is, their one of us so they won’t mean any harm.” He turned away from the pup and eased himself back into the water, trying to find his previous relaxation to no avail.

The warmth of the springs called too her, the journey back into The Basin had been treacherous. Even Wynter was feeling the bite of the cold, the griffin was curled up on Arah's back desperately trying to share Arah's body heat. Working her way to the back of The Basin she only stopped by the cave to peep in on the sleeping forms of her twin daughters. They were both resting peacefully for now and the hot springs was an extremely desirable destination. The noon sun was only a slight improvement from the morning's freezing and grasping hands, yet the sliver doe could not quite shake the morning's ice from her bones. As they got closer to the hot springs, Wynter's excitement peaked. There was a first time for everything she supposed, the golden tipped griffin was more excited about the promise of warmth compared to the wonder that was the hot springs. Gliding as silently as a ghost through The Basin, Arah sighed a breath of relief the moment their destination was in view. "Tá sé an gheimhridh." The griffin perked up at the sound of Arah's gentle voice, her blue eyes studed the rocks and forms that made up the hot springs with an eager anticipation. As a general rule, Wynter did not swim unless hunting so both the doe and the griffin hoped the steam would be enough to warm her.

Growls reached her ivory ears causing Arah to give pause in her journey. A gruff and frustrated sounding voice floated back to the hovering duo. Something about that voice was familiar...she had heard it before in a rather unpleasant meeting. Moving into where the voice her come from, her golden hued eyes studied the form of Deodat under an indifferent mask. His blood coloured body was covered by the heated water of the springs, but every now and then she would catch a glimpse of his built body underneath the ripples. The white patches on his body hadn't changed...in fact nothing had other than his standing within the herd. Narrowing her eyes with distrust, the doe watched the blood bay for a while longer before finally speaking up. "I hope we are not intruding Deodat?" Wynter was bored of remaining in one spot, spreading her wings and giving Odette a wide berth, the griffin came to rest in her own warm space of the cave, completely ignoring the blood shaded stallion and his bonded. Arah however kept her eyes trained on the stallion who had only ever been rude to her before his disappearance.

déodat,

Déodat glanced over at the familiar face of Arah. Even if they hadn’t met previously upon his first return, he would’ve known her from the recent drama related to her children. Poor mare, he could only imagine the pain of her heart. Any monster that would harm his own daughter wouldn’t live to see another day, and so, he could only imagine what her own heart was like. No mother should ever see her children tormented like the doe had.

His gaze flickered to the young companion that came with her, that had caught Odette’s interest. Of course the pup sought to get the griffin to play and he watched her for a brief moment before turning his gaze to Arah as she asked him a question. In response he gave a simple shake of his head. How could one intrude upon him in a public place? If he had desired solitude he could’ve slipped away to the isolation of his cave.

“No,” he said finally. “I'm simply relaxing.” He walked over to the right side of the pool, giving Arah room to enter should she desire. His eyes flickered over to Odette, who was simply sitting and staring at the griffin, her tail wagging a mile an hour. “Pardon Odette, she thinks anything that moves is her friend. She won’t harm your companion, only try and get them to play with her.” He glanced back at Arah, curious how the mare would react to the presence of the pup. Of course if it made her uncomfortable to have a predator near her own young companion, he’d drag the white pup to the other side of the pool where she could simply admire the griffin rather than harm it. “How have you been faring?” It was a weak attempt at conversation, but if the mare was to inhabit the waters with him, he might as well be cordial.
