The sweet smell of summer wind filled her nostrils and the soft thump of her hooves traveled to her in turned ears. A soft trot that was just brisk enough to cause the wind to ruffle her tail. For days and nights she had been traveling this way, in the beginning she had been running. Running and only stopping for short times, it didn't take too long for her to come to the decision that she was not going to get far traveling this way, that in the end it might just destroy her chances at a new home. Her pace then slowed, as the trees became denser near a pathway that she had been following, just to the left of it. She didn't dare walk on the path, it would mean she'd be too exposed. And in a new land she'd rather hold the element of surprise than another. Her soft thumping hooves turned to carefully chosen steps, causing just the undergrowth that tangled in her tail and reached for her legs to ruffle gently. It was then that she noticed a bird hopping from tree to tree to follow her. Pausing she frowned and glowered at the bird before speaking. "It's not nice to stare at strangers." The words got a twittering response that she assumed to be a 'why.' Shaking her head she couldn't help but crack something of a smile "Because sometimes strangers aren't nice." The bird looked a bit confused and she snorted before moving on, ignoring the animal that was still jumping around. It didn't take long though for it to abandon it's mission of annoying her. Keeping to the left of what she believed to a pathway she couldn't help but stand still and admire the sky above. The colouring told her the day was coming to an end, cherry pink, orange, red, and blue streaked the sky with their brilliance. A soft breeze brought her back to the world, the sweet smell had struck her nostrils again and reminded her of her goal. To find a home. Someplace to belong in a harsh world that thrived on inflicting pain upon the innocent.

He traipsed north to the Threshold, another stone left unturned in his endless quest to find Shadow.

Butterflies scattered, startled to life by the thrust of skinny questing limbs, and their wing-flutter filled the air about his passing face. I haven’t the time for this... the little colt muttered barely, his voice more an exasperated sign then any speech. Pools as deep and dark as the murky blue southern ocean glanced, by the brilliant display of colourful movement if only a second; indulging them to his audience if that was what they wished. He didn’t pause though, the bright afternoon sky was dulling and he knew that evening would soon sweep darkness across Helovia- and Kari had not meant to be so long away from the Throat.

His stride hastened as the soft, warm breeze swept the cloud of insects from his path and his broke from trot into a smooth, leggy canter. The old gnarled trees of the Threshold forest rose like a wall before him, and he prayed (to whoever wanted to hear), that the onyx mare would be hidden therein. Please! he practically begged, though a hopelessness had already began to quash that dream. It had been months, seasons already, and he began to think less and less about her.

The shadow cast ahead of him as the sun sank to the west was one that pleased him none too much. His horns were still brittle, weak, and for the moment he wore only one and a half. With gritted teeth though, he held his roused temper and broke through the tree line. Kari thought to sing out, to call her or beg, but there was an eerie stillness as he slowed to walk- not even the birds were chattering above. Is someone here? he asked them silently, stretching his throat awkwardly so that his eyes might find better access to the sparse, ugly canopy above. HELLO BIRDS? There was no answer to his mind’s plea, mind due, And the colt’s little face plunged begrudgingly back to its normal stance.

"Hello!" he called instead out loud, lungs gasping afterwards in effort to recover, "Shadow! I’m looking for you!" Tiny hooves pulled his frail frame forward once more has he continued still deeper between the trees, not following any path particularly, while the dimming shade of sunset broke around him.

Standing within the shade of a couple of the threshold's trees the grey watched with amusement as his companion lazed around under the sun's rays trying to enjoy the heat. This would be considered an easy task if not for the two small birds who seemed intent on preventing the feline from getting any peace. Kiara lay stretched out upon a rock absorbing the sun's rays a little ways off while the devious pair of birds dared get close enough to pick at pieces of her long fur. They would only linger long enough to get the feline's attention before fluttering just out of reach as either a tail or paw would swing in their direction. Chucking softly he shook his head thinking that these two must have some sort of death wish to try and provoke a creature who could easily eat them for breakfast in two seconds flat.

A disturbance echoed through the peace causing the stallion's silver gaze to snap towards the direction of the voice they all had just heard. Trailing his tail over his flank with mild annoyance he grumbled under his breath something about no one ever being able to enjoy a quiet moment. Scanning over the greenery lazily the subject of the voice could not be found but something of interest did happen to appear off to his left. Raising his head the scent of the mare wafted towards him giving him an excuse to do something more than just stand here watching birds annoy his companion relentlessly. Pivoting around to face the painted fae as she approached he nickered softly in greeting to catch her attention.

"Hello miss, my name is Ciceron. Are you searching for something? Perhaps I might be able to help you out?" He commented with his smooth friendly tone, dipping his cranium slightly as he acknowledged her presence. Maybe this girl was new to the area and in search of somewhere to rest after such a long journey? He could definitely be of help with that should she wish to come back to the Hidden Falls with him. It was a nice peaceful place to recuperate and even potentially call home if she wanted. He was hopeful that she might agree considering most of the others he had met lately had decided to go elsewhere. There was nothing wrong with the Falls and they would all welcome anyone who wished to join them. They were all a family, well not by blood but by association at least.

Angi's in turned ears twitched in annoyance at the shouting that filled the air. Breaking the peace she had been enjoying. If you were any louder you could fell a tree. Snarling the words in her head she snorted. Picking up her legs she began to walk towards the screaming, even if they destroyed the precious silence they might know a proper place for her. Searching the general area she hadn't gotten very far before being noticed by another, and she was sure this hadn't been the one screaming. The voices didn't sound the same. His question made her left ear twitch with displeasure. No, I'm here for fun. Angi of course knew better than to say this, but thinking it wasn't wrong. Her mind dug deep for the only advice Celia had ever given her that was helpful. She couldn't exactly remember it, but she knew it had to do with being polite and manners. "Angiogram. Angi if you wish, and yes. I'm looking for two things actually; a proper home -where I hopefully won't cause problems- And the screaming. Her pale eyes then found the cat and she couldn't help but stare at her, even though she had just scolded a bird for staring at her. Realizing this she blinked a few times and smiled kindly. "I'm sorry, I've never seen a cat of your kind." Angi's head turned towards where she had suspected the scream to have come from, yes she was aggressive but that didn't mean that she was heartless. And the idea that perhaps they were in more distress than they let on caused her brow to furrow."Ciceron? Do you think perhaps you could help me now?"

She isn’t here... he sighed, breathless, and feeling the weight of fatigue set down across his little shoulders as the daylight dimmed around him. Kari was thirsty, and hungry; and generally unhappy. For a moment he paused, dark eyes scanning the timber around him, convinced that there’d been a murmur of voices; but even as flickering ears searched, there was no trace to follow. He shook, and a cloud of red sand-dust plumed around him. Promptly the breeze swept through and stole it, and the little disgruntled colt swivelled in vain across twisting, knobbly knees.

Lately, it seemed, Helovia had become more of a thief than a landscape. Monsters had stolen his mother, darkness had taken the light, oblivion had eaten his other mothers, vines had robbed him of his horn (the better half, he moaned), and... why can’t everything just be like it was. Ears pinned as he mourned the simplicity of his early life, and Kari started forward again, neck slouched between hunching shoulders, long bony tail dragging like a limp piece of rope along the leaf-littered forest floor.

Then, suddenly, he heard the low drone of voices again. Perhaps he knew the hopelessness of his endeavour, maybe this was all just to convince himself that all avenues had been exhausted- he wasn’t truly expecting company, was he? The little bleak coated colt stopped, neat cloven hoof suspended, breath bated. He might have looked like a spooked quail, certainly nothing fancier; definitely not anything sporting a full, magnificent crown...

Don’t you want to be found?

Kari bit his tongue, hard, NO!

His head cocked pensively, lips frowning, pouting. Dancing ears roved between the sudden outburst of roosting-bird banter to find the direction of the others. “I’m trying to listen!” the colt’s irrational voice shrieked, and instantly the wild, blissful chorus fell silent. It wasn’t that he was an angry child; Kari was generally a quiet, reserved boy who much preferred his own company. He found little comfort in words (especially those issued by any other), and feared always the visions and memories that fractured his mind erratically.

How are you going to get home? It’s dark now... Little hooves shuffled around, and he stared for some time back the way he (thought) he had come. There was no trail, print or grazed earth, to betray the course he’d taken. Warped shadows crept closer, intimidating, wicked, and Kari stumbled backwards in a bid to escape their crooked reaching fingers. They seemed to blend together, to form one enormous mass of hungry blackness- like the darkness that had turned his mother unrecognisable and utterly detestable. He had fled that strange, sickening night, and he turned now to run again.

Waiting patiently for the painted fae to speak he wondered where she could have traveled from. While he did not know of too many of the surrounding areas he had once upon a time come here from a different lands as well. A shred of regret still existed for leaving his family behind but with the revelations he had discovered was it really such a bad choice after all? Perhaps the question should have been why had he not tried to save his mother and take her with him? Magic had kept his true memories from him for all these years making him think that his past was not as horrible as it really was but somehow he still felt responsible for abandoning his mother and leaving her behind. Somehow he should have been able to break the magic his mother had placed upon his mind to make him forget yet he had failed.

As the mare's vocals broke the silence he raised his gaze to hers briefly acknowledging her words. "Very nice to meet you Angi. I can help you out with a home should you wish. I reside from the Hidden Falls and we would be more than happy to welcome you into our family." Finishing his offer with a kind smile he turned to gaze down to Kiara who sat calmly by his side listening to the conversation with gauged interest. It wasn't until Angiogram spoke of something relating to her did she raise her blue eyes over to fix upon the mare curiously. " There is nothing to worry about with Kiara here, she is practically harmless unless you happen to be a rabbit. She is a Siberian Tiger, a larger version of something like a Lynx or Wildcat." He commented, chuckling softly as Kiara rolled her eyes at his lame comparison to a species so much less than herself.

Flicking his ears back as the persistent screaming came again he too twisted his head in the direction it was coming from. What in the world was going on over there? Hearing the mare's final comment he nodded in response before answering vocally. " We will help you in anyway possible. Shall we?" He asked motioning towards the screaming voice with a bob of his head. "Kiara see what you can find but be careful." Feeling her mind touch his in response he watched as Kiara bounded off before them into the brush heading towards the last known location of the screaming. "Kiara is going up ahead of us to see if she can find anything before we do." He explained unsure if Angi knew what his bonded was doing, last thing he wanted was for her to think she was going to kill whatever it was in distress. Stepping forward without hesitation he shot a glance over his shoulder to see if Angi would follow.

Angi smiled, thankful for the offer. "Thank you, it is nice to meet you as well." Though kindness did not come to her easily, Celia's lessons of manners stuck with Angi, and she knew that returning his kindness with her own would get her farther than the rudeness that ran so clearly in her family. His words concerning his friend named Kiara caught her attention and she nodded, this explained why she had never seen this kind of big cat. Her pale eyes looked to the tiger and she bowed her head in greeting. "Well then, please let me say it has been a pleasure to meet you. For even your distant kinds are rare in my homeland, and to meet you is a great joy for me." The kindness that Angi rarely showed to others but family came easier to her with the large animal, cats had always fascinated her. They were independent animals that chose to live with others and bond to their friends. Her ears twitched when Ciceron spoke again, agreeing to help her and then explaining Kiara's reasoning for leaving. Nodding to show her understanding a thought entered her head What is the Hidden Fall he mentioned? "Ciceron, would you mind telling me of the Hidden Falls?" The idea of a home was of great interest and pressing concern for her, even if she would never admit it she knew her bitterness towards the world was no way to live and horrible company for herself. After all, who really enjoyed living with the feeling of hate towards everyone and having to pretend company of strangers was a welcoming sensation? She doubted anyone actually reveled in the feeling of their hopes dwindling and turning into a festering infection in their chest.
