Proceeding over the longest distance, with rest, repose, and respite placed between (for Lena feared the journey would be long for little Mirabella and recently-foaled Sialia), the group eventually reached the dunes, the sands, and the setting sun of the Dragon’s Throat. Truthfully, it was the sovereign the Mender knew the littlest of, with no information transcribed or gathered (for they hadn’t tread to these warm lairs to discuss treaties or peace), and she felt the hindrance of ignorance tie and tether across the back of her mind, like a noose of barbs, like a crown of thorns. Perhaps the last time she’d journeyed to the southern regions had been to grasp and clutch those snatched and nabbed from the shadows, staunch, mighty Aurelius, mysterious, enigmatic Elizabeth, and many seasons had passed, trickled by, since those instances. She furrowed her brow briefly, considered the change in their horizon, land bridges and trickling oasis water, an ichor-ready tree rising towards the skies, the overwhelming sensation of fire, of infernos, of brewing, blazing potency. The fairy didn’t even know who lead the stalwart tribe now, who remained in the stead of darkness and pestilence, and thought to perhaps remedy the situation at a later date. It wouldn’t due to stew in incomprehension and unfamiliarity; they should be aware of the worlds, the kingdoms, the sovereigns and palisades surrounding them. With a gentle, withering sigh, a warm breath, she glanced to her traveling companions, who had graciously sojourned beside her on their enticing expedition. A harmonic interlude ghosted from her lips, a steady wink extended towards the growing Mirabella, an encouraging song for those winded and tired. “Our last herd – perhaps, on the way back, we can give some invitations to the open lands?”

With that, she released several coaxing wares into the sultry air, watched as they swam about in the scintillating twilight, another adventure for scion sketches and tracings, and she pondered if they realized how far their tiny etchings had gone, from waterfalls to misty walls, to shoaled sanctions and bridges – and she hoped, prayed, dreamed the world would see the miniature convictions steeped in silly, foolish drawings, be immersed in the idea, in the notion, that the Basin held far more than delusions of grandeur. They too, like so many empires and realms before them, aspired and renewed with each swindled step, tried new things and wiled away fantasies, rejoiced at the notion of peace and goodwill. Maybe their efforts would pay off, and the rest of the provinces, nations, would not be so blinded by the peak architecture and rugged, persevering spirits. She grinned at the last notion, turned to her cherished colleagues, and offered them the journey back to their blessed home.

The mouse was quick and it twisted with agile precisions, tail trailed behind like a tiny whip that did little to discourage eager paws that ate up the dry ground with practised ease. His sly gaze traced its slender, tiny body and he tried his best to match its every move, its every turn, until finally the inevitable happened and the vulpine cornered it. It's tiny pink paws jumped at the hard, canyon wall until the predator wrapped his jaw around his prey, the cruel circle of life continued on and Inari had bagged himself a light lunch. Though after running so much, the mouse did little to ease his hunger, so the fox padded off to find berries and the like. His stomach temporarily satisfied on mouse for the time being. It was on his forage that Inari found himself nearing the Dragons Throat border and his button black nose touched the surface of an odd looking leaf. The kit sat back on his haunches and stared at it for a while, trying to make on the pictures until finally he realised the message it was trying to convey. With extreme excitement, Inari grabbed the leaf in his mouth and ran for his life across the dry landscape, his hunger forgotten for the moment as he carried important news.

It was a while before his little legs carried him to where Sacre was, grazing in the Oasis, and the fox came flying in. Leaf in mouth and himself was rife with a buzz. The stained colt frowned at his fox who ran circles around him, leaping about before discarding a leaf before him. Sacre gave his bonded a confused frown and questioned the young kits meaning in leaving him the remnants of a tree until his bright orange friend sat before the leaf and pointed his nose directly at.

On closer inspection, the young spy finally noted the markings on it and he stared at the pictures in fascination. He made out mountains, unicorns and a moon symbol that looked very much like something for Orangemoon, it was then it all clicked. It was an invitation! Or a summons?! But who cared, Sacre was alive with elation as he thought of returning to his birth home. Of seeing old friends, family and Roux! The world was a big ball of warm happiness in the colts eyes as he jigged with enthusiasm, Inari pressing the leaf into a neat and tight roll, jumping onto his bonded's rump and shoved it in his tail. Nestled next to the beloved red arrow.

There was a part of him that wondered if his herd mates would disagree with him going or would they give him blessing? He wondered also, if Sikeax would go too? They were all questions that could be answered later as Sacre and Inari continued their little dance of joy at the prospect of seeing old faces.

A pale cloud had been drifting over the desert for the better part of the day, lazily riding the cool breeze while basking in the light of the sun. It had watched everything that went on below, the wanderings of the patrols, the coming and going of strangers and the thrilling hunt of a small, red fox down on the ground. A few times the cloud had felt a twitch of longing tug at it as it followed the chase, an itch in ivory talons and teeth that tempted it to join in on the race, but coming for something bigger... and more filling. Alas, this particular cloud had already sated itself on the cadaver of a washed up sea monster off by the shore, and while she could always eat more it would be more for the thrill of the chase than any real need to sate herself.

Far more interesting was the things the fox was doing. In certain ways it was a very natural thing to do, to stop and sit down after consuming a meal, but not many usually spent their time staring at leaves, as though trying to scion the future from it. Fewer foxes still usually picked up said leaf to run off with; this was a decidedly curious thing to do, and the cloud - who by now had stopped pretending to be a cloud and simply reverted into a very intrigued, very nosy dragon - followed along as the little canine sped across the desert.

Things grew decidedly more interesting when she realized that the course was set not only for the center of the desert where arid ground pregnant with red sand gave way to lush emerald grasses, swaying palm trees and the deep blue waters of the Oasis, but for a shiny black four-leg-with-horn. It sort of explained things - if the fox was bonded it was bound to act strangely every now and then, seeing as it shared mind with the decidedly odd equids.
What was perhaps most curious of all these peculiar events, was that she thought herself able to recognize this particular four-leg. It was a memory from some time ago, but since her mind was much clearer and more flexible than those of the younger species, she easily sought out the one she needed. A day on a meadow with Silverthorn, a small runaway fledgling had stopped to talk and she had SWOOPED DOWN and scared him.

If dragons could grin, Fajira would have been smiling ear to ear. It was the same fledgling as that time, only bigger and less cute. She felt a pang of excitement shoot through her, and after a sharp demand to her bonded to "COME!" the white dragon shot down from her high vantage point in the air, let out a blood-curdling shriek and dived down towards Sacre with flames licking the open maw and excitement blazing in the pale blue eyes; hoping that she'd be able to make him flinch this time too.

The day was bright and warm. The Sun glinted off the sands in streaks of gold, casting a yellow hue upon those who walked the dunes. A gentle breeze flowed in from the East, from somewhere across the sea; one day, perhaps, the Sultana would find out what lay behind the azure waters. For now, though, the Dragon's Throat was enough: it was her home, and really, who needed more than that?

The dove was resting in the shade of her favorite tree. It was a rather large date palm near the lake, its leaves stretching wide to provide cover from the Sun's brilliance, and somehow the grass always seemed greener beneath its branches. The water was particularly blue today, reflecting a cloudless sky, and she gazed dreamily across the waves, lost in some errant thought or other.

Her lightning-bird interrupted her wandering thoughts with a gentle call before landing upon her withers. His talons pressed small indentations into her shoulders, though he was careful not to break the skin. Sparks and currents ran over his shimmering feathers, cascading down her sides and onto the grass below. Oddly, it had no effect on the plant life, for it was harmless unless he meant to maim or kill his target. He had grown larger, her darling zephyr, and had surprised her not long ago with his first bit of mind-speech. She had grown so attuned to him that she had first assumed that his were her own thoughts; but then she had realized that it was his voice inside her head. She had been overjoyed and gleeful, squealing aloud with her excitement. No doubt whoever was around had thought her quite mad, but she hadn't cared a whit.

Spy-stallion find something, he informed her now, preening himself as he did so. He sent her an image - a location, to be exact - and she set out immediately at an easy trot, navigating to her Sleuth with little difficulty. Dragon, came his voice again, and the Sultana immediately looked to the skies; sure enough, a white dragon soared above, though she quickly disappeared in a sudden dive. What in the world...?
