From almost the moment the soldier touched down upon the edge of the floating isle, she knew something must be wrong. A crowd stood, all intent on the same thing, and the hush upon the assembly seemed unnaturally grim. Eager to investigate, Meg picked her way through the crowd, scared legs moving her deftly around to the front. It was had to say what was more astonishing: the body of the mare laid out before the spectators, or the collection of mighty beings that surveyed the scene... Holy hell! seemed to sum it up quite well.

Meg was sure she recognized one of them: the flaming figure of the Sun God could not be mistaken, and three others who had the same otherworldly aura must surely be the Earth, Moon and Spark that completed the quartet of Ancients. Four more there were, the looked on beside the Gods but Meg could not account for their involvement. So transfixed was she, that had any other spoken, she might not have realized, but the mighty rumble of the massive ancient, surely the God of Earth, broke her reverie when he issued his call to action. From all around came answers and she lifted her own voice to join them “As the Gods charge, these actions will not go unpunished in Helovia.”

The floating isle still teemed with nervous energy. Following the God’s address to the crown, the fire-scarred mare had retreated a more secluded spot beneath one of the blooming trees, and had since began to scar the soft ground beneath her with a restless pacing. She had stood proudly and answered the gods and her first instinct had been to take off, to fly, to fight, to do…..something! But what? Meg’s mind was just as agitated as her feet as she tried to marshal her thoughts into line; she had only just returned to Helovia, was not even sure if she would still have a home back at the Throat, an now this? A stranger lay murdered and she had to do SOMETHING!

A harsh huffing sound escaped her as she turned her head back towards the scene of the grizzly crime. Someone had to pay! But where to start… Meg had no knowledge of the deceased, no thought towards how or why she had been left so gruesomely, but turning her back on the situation did not even enter into her thoughts. She’d abandoned Helovia once, had been to cowardly to come back and face the hopeless Darkness for five changes of the season. Now that she had returned, there was no backing out now. Meg would help Helovia, she would fight with everything she had to make it safe, to keep it whole and here and home. She just had to figure out how to start.

get up, get out, get away from these liars
'cause they don't get your soul
or your fire

Mesec had watched as the crowd formed around them, focused upon the death that lay before them. No longer was this a charge placed on the shoulders of the four demi-gods, but all of Helovia. Surely with everyone working together, working towards the same goal, they would find out what happened before there was another death. He remained still as his mother spat out her scorn for the concern showed by the general population but his heart soared. How likely was it that any of them knew this pegasus? But they still took on the charge laid on them by the Gods to seek out the murderer.

Some spoke and others didn’t but the general consensus seemed to be that they were all going to try and find out what happened. Was one of them the murderer? Or was there a new monster, a new creature, that was out on the loose in Helovia?

There were too many questions building up and they weren’t going to be going anywhere anytime soon.

--

After saying goodbye to his mother, the charming Goddess that she was, he had returned to the Veins for a proper-ish reunion with Roskuld but now he was back. Now he had to get back on track with the task that had just been handed out to all of Helovia. Find the murderer.

Like everyone else, he hoped, he was having trouble figuring out just where to start. Everyone with black hair was a suspect but that did not exactly narrow it down. He had black hair, a good number of his friends had black hair – that bay pegasus had black hair. Maybe his mother had been right.

No, he would at least try. He could start with the pegasus, an unfamiliar mare. Maybe she wasn’t the murderer but she was someone that he could talk to. “Hello there, I’m Mesec.” A pause, he really did not know how to start this conversation. Maybe she noticed him standing with his mother but maybe not. It didn’t really matter. “Did you…” Okay he wasn’t going to ask if she killed the mare but once those first two words were out he realized that it really sounded like that was what he was going to ask. Maybe he should try again. Accusing everyone with black hair of murder wasn’t exactly going to be the best method.

“Pretty terrible, isn’t it?”

Having heard tales of an island above the earth the girl's curiosity insisted that she see this spectacle for herself. It had taken a little bit of searching before she managed to spot it but there was no missing the lumbering landmass floating..yes floating in the sky. How in the hell... Cutting herself off at that she just shook her head figuring it was easier to not come up with a plausible solution as to how this hunk of rock was floating up here with her. There are just some things in this lifetime that are better left unexplained. Beating her massive wings against the wind as she climbed higher the scent of darkness lingered in the air. Inhaling a deep breath to confirm her identification there was no doubt in her mind about what the strange odor was. Blood and quite a lot of it. From above majority of the landmass appeared to be tranquil and peaceful but she knew all too well that things were never as perfect as they appeared. Hidden deep beneath the layers there was always someone who dared to test the boundaries between light and dark world.

It did not take long to discover where the bloody scene lay stained against the earth like an infection. Death always seemed to draw a crowd regardless of the cause be natural or an act of sin. Landing carefully amongst the growing crowd the hybrid wandered forward to see who the victim might be. It was doubtful that she would know the beast but perhaps she might be able to deduct what had happened to this poor soul. She was not frightened of death unlike many of those around her with their terrified expressions and stressed postures. She accepted it as a part of life but respected that there was always a time and a place for it and this definitely was not the place for it. Whoever had left the lifeless pegasus here had wanted the body to be discovered but why?

Listening silently as the gods spoke of the hideous crime she attempted to pull what she could from the nervous words of the bystanders. She always loved a good mystery and what better than tracking down a murderer. Turning away once the talk had ceased to turn up much useful information the mare felt inclined to see what she could add to the investigation. Perhaps in her process she might just discover the perfect way to get away with murder without anyone suspecting a thing. That would make things much easier when she would take down her brother and strip him of the crown that was rightfully hers. So where did the black hairs fit into all of this she mused silently. Surely they could easily figure out who killed the mare if they could only find their owner. Anyone got a bloodhound?

Lost in her thoughts she wandered without much thought as to where she was going. Wait a minute.. she was going about this the wrong way. Pausing mid step to glance around her she spotted a pair chatting nearby. If she was going to figure this out it might be good to see what others might know given her lacking knowledge about the lands here. Wickering a soft greeting to the two she approached them cautiously. "Hello, I'm Rhea. I do apologize if i'm interrupting something. " She introduced politely figuring she would win more flies with sugar than vinegar. "I just don't know how someone could do that to that poor mare? Its just..just wrong." Frowning with a shake of her head she allowed the softer side of her personality to show through for once.

Sacre;
It seemed no matter where he went there was a corpse just around the corner these days. The foreboding in his heart told him to keep an eye behind him and take extra care no matter where he went. Perhaps it was just coincidence, but the concern that rippled through the crowd of gathered earlier told him to treat this as something out of the norm. Sacre had arrived late and watched as many dispersed into pairs or teams, some wandered off by themselves and Sacre too walked away from the awful scene. There was a haunted and frail look to his eyes, he’d seen far too much over the past few days and this may only be the beginning to a long, dark time. He hoped he was wrong, that he was just being melodramatic because of the situation and this was just a rough patch. Yes just a rough patch.

With a sigh, the boy and his fox moved off towards two strangers stood beside a familiar looking figure. It was Mesec! The hybrid colt he had met on the odd occasion, their meetings had always been brief and enjoyable. Sacre wished he knew the lad more, he imagined they could be good friends if given the chance. A friendly smile wove onto his lips and he joined the little group with a gracious dip of his head. Maybe they would know more about the troubling situation of the pegasus mare who had died. Would they suspect him? He did have rather a lot of black hair after all and he was hailing from the Dragons Throat. Sacre might even suspect himself if he was in their shoes. Yet, he put on a brave face and reminded himself that there was a mystery to solve and he should make himself useful.

”Mesec” he greeted the silver splashed male first fondly and then turned to the rest of them, offering each a friendly glance before he became more solemn. ”I wonder what exactly happened to her” he concurred with the white faced unicorn mare. ”Sorry to intrude also, I’m Sacre and this is Inari” he nodded to the fox who yipped his introduction once.

He wondered what they had seen, did they know more than he did? Were there even more corpses that he didn’t know about? Either way, he decided to share his own information with the small group that had gathered all for the same cause. Surely it’d be easier to figure it out when there was more than one mind on the job. ”There’s another body too, in the Deep Forest. An equine mare covered in gashes, like she’d been in a fight, there was sand left on her body and her name was Ailith” his voice was monotone, nothing like his usual bright tones. There was nothing happy about this and he hoped they found the answers soon.

It felt wrong to stand still. Megaera was one for action and would often leap before looking, it was a failing that she worked to correct within herself. The scars upon her front legs and nose were a permanent reminder of her hasty nature and she wasn’t in to mood for more without working out a strategy first. Still, she had nowhere to start. She didn’t know this mare that lay dead, didn’t know the place she found herself, and after a long absence, she didn’t even know Helovia. So focused were her thoughts upon the long list of things she didn’t know, Meg barely noticed the approach of the white-eyed colt. His greeting brought her out of her reverie with a bit of a jolt and it took her the length of the pause in his speech to realize that we had been one of the four standing with the Gods when all had been assembled around the scene. The colt, Mesec he’d said, started a question, and trailed off, from the sound of it, it might have been a bit accusatory and Meg’s eyes narrowed for an instant. As he changed tack she relaxed her expression, he seemed more like he was trying to work out what to say at all more than refine an accusation.

“Well met, Mesec. I am Megaera of Dragon’s Throat.” Or at least she hoped she would still be welcome in the desert herd, she’d been away a long while. She considered his last words a bit before answering. If he knew the Gods, perhaps he knew more of what had happened. ”Terrible indeed, and something should be done about it, the culprit found.” Her words were solemn enough, but laced with a bit of impatience. She tried to settle herself, action might feel better, but it would be useless until she could put purpose to it. She angled herself towards her black companion and adopted a more amiable manner. ”Did the gods have any other information? A few black hairs on a body isn’t much to be going on with.”

Another mare approached then, one bearing both horn and wings alike, and black as well. Black is entirely too common of a color. thought Meg with a smidge of sardonic mirth. The newcomer seemed a sweet one, surely sweeter than Meg eve could be, as she politely introduced herself. ”Megaera.” She responded with a short dip of her head. "It is certainly unsettling. I did not know her, but in any case it seems strange that she was left in such a public space. Did no one see this crime?”

Another set of forms came upon the small gathering, another young male, with horn and red instead of wings and silver, but he seemed to know Mesec already. She greeted the new addition as she had the other two, and even bent her head low to give a friendly snort to the quick little creature that accompanied him. Along with his delightful little companion, the blood and black unicorn brought news of another body and that quickly sobered the young soldier again. “Sand? That would seem as though someone from the Throat was involved, or from the coast to the west.” That as a bitter pill to swallow, the thought that those from her old home might be involved in the grizzly happenings. “Do Ailith and this mare hear have any connections that you know of?” she asked Sacre, gesturing to the nearby victim. ”It seems hardly likely that these are unconnected.”
