Birdsong always merited its just rewards, its long-lasting wait for the burdens of Frostfall to crack, to chisel, to fly away into the expanse of merry sparrows and emboldened sunshine, drenching the world with warmth and delight. From gilded ramparts and sodden rainfalls came verdant greenery, arrived tiny bulbs, miniscule, delightful blossoms, little shoots gathering the heartfelt nutrients of spring’s wholesome sonnets. As nymph and kitsune basked in the serenity, in the tranquility, their hearts’ drank and indulged in copse reveries and glade raptures, witnesses to blades and boughs reimagined: tapestries, portraits, compositions of green, of emerald, brightened into luminescent shades. They picked and nestled amongst the beds of roots and moss, they sidled through the tundra forest, the linings of pine and fir, they whistled and caroled amidst the mass of jasmine follies and carnation hopes, tried to forget the woes of deaths, of miseries, and settled across the expanse with a full heart and stalwart endeavors. Lena identified the ample herbs discovered long ago: the rich, sometimes blighted bearberry, the assisting pasque flower, the blades of the diamond-leaf willow, the Labrador tea after she’d explored the ground for further bits and pieces. Imogen, ever the buoyant patriot, laced them amidst her widened mouth (bravely refused to broil them into ash and flames), and followed her sienna mistress as they drifted and traversed, gypsies of the north. The latter smiled, perhaps for the first time in long, beaten segments of time and conjectures, examined and scrutinized the frond and needled bundle, questioned the only other occupant. “Do you think it’s enough?” The ivory vixen was inclined to agree, chirped through her mouthful of herbs, dancing lightly ahead of the Time Mender as she hastened a light aria of laughter, followed the pale beast on their rose-lined path and mission.

They traversed down a familiar passage, crossed their borders and angled southward, past the Frozen Arch and all of its mysterious corridors, down amidst the melting snowfall, and swinging westbound towards the well-known World’s Edge. Though years and seasons collided and corroded, healed and assuaged, the sylph still felt a restless prickle down the fixture of her spine: maybe out of fear, maybe out of humiliation, maybe out of shame for all the actions scalded and concocted there, because she’d fed the fuel and fire with her own anger, because they’d all had brutal, damaged, scarred hands and the perilous, flagging efforts of her kin only masked the hurt they’d withstood ages before. As they rustled and rambled into the mist, into the murk, she listened to the rolling sea crashing against the rocks, she pictured the disastrous outcrops, the beautiful sprawl of merciless steel and moonlit conspiracies, slowed as the chimes of memories echoed, scrawled, ghosted against her senses. Poltergeists of the past: a glass wall deteriorating, spotted Lords and his daughter leaping amongst warrens, mighty warriors sacrificing hearts and minds, control spiraling out of their dignified throngs. A billowing breath cascaded from her follies, and Imogen exalted her concern with an embellished snort; Lena shook her head and continued onward, slinking amidst shadows and sunlight, returning to old elements, enveloped in forest grasps and timber clutches. All at once, before she could be folded back into the murk, into the disastrous claims and ruined glimpses, into haunted spells (for this was to be a jubilant affair, not a crusade back into unrelenting tales), she bellowed a charitable, honey-spun beckoning on their fringes, along their borders: striving to bear gifts instead of demons.

[Lena comes with herbs from the Basin to give to the Edge! ^_^]

It had been a lazy day, so far, and soon they were going to have to get up and make a change. The warmth brought with Birdsong was just so welcome, and the benefits of her funny little magic trick could clearly be seen. The spot where she slept every night was brimming with wildflowers and the grass grew longer there than in the areas nearby – the soil so thoroughly nourished by the nutrients that leaked from her hooves when she stood still. It was a rather pretty looking spot now, it almost looked as though she had a nest!

She was trimming some of the sweet, fresh grass that grew there, when a familiarly sweet voice caught her attention. Rousing from her inactivity of the morning, she moved forward now to seek out the maker of that call.

And before long, the beautiful pair that she had first met in the depths of the cave were within sight, standing where they were on the border of her home. “Lena! Imogen!” Hemlock flew ahead of her as she called out her greeting, circling the pair and hooting with delight – even swooping down with the intention of tugging gently on one of the fox-like creature’s tails as his own way of saying hello. Oh sure, he could be an absolute dear sometimes but then he’d be a terror the next. But at least he was on good behaviour today, proving just how much he approved of when she spoke to certain friends over others.

Especially if those certain friends just happened to not be of the male variety.

Catching up finally, she greeted the pair from the Basin with nothing short of bright smiles, absolutely thrilled to see them again. “Oh it’s so wonderful to see you two again, welcome to the Edge.” She remembered Lena saying that she had been here before, but it seemed right that she should welcome them all the same. Looking down to Imogen, she spotted the bundle of plants held delicately in the creature’s mouth and smiled all the more because of it. Well, if it were possible to smile more.

Such simple things to bring such intense joy!

Alysanne couldn’t help it though, all the more because lately she often searched for things that might cheer another friend of hers. “Are those for Res’s garden? She’ll be so excited!” Hopefully her fellow healer would be along, if not perhaps they could surprise her!

it's what you feel but can't articulate outloud

She was resting, taking her place underneath the canopy she called her home now. It was secluded, protected, and kept - for the most part - her nightmares away. Valiance was wrapped up in her mane, sleeping the day away as he curled back down upon the ground. Her bodice wrapping up near a tree to try and rest even further. She was exhausted, but slowly getting even more sleep that she knew was needed.

Alas, it was a call somewhere near the border that roused the mare from her sleep. Quiet dreams, empty dreams. But dreams that had allowed her to rest. "Valiance, get up, sweetie." Res spoke through the bond before starting to clamber to her feet. Valiance stirred and took to the canopy above, groaning about being woken up when he was actually getting sleep.

Still, she moved forward until she saw both Alysanne and someone else. A horn, and some small fox creature. And, upon closer inspection, she realized that the mare also smelled of snow. However, she arrived late enough to not catch any of the conversation that had fallen. Carefully, she pulled from the shadows and inched towards Alysanne. There was a gentle bob of her head to the new mare and then a bump of her maw against Aly's shoulder as she stood to the side and a little bit behind.

Her meek words fell from her lips. "Hello. I am Resplendence-" she paused as Valiance took to the sky, circling around the two Edge mares as a show of protection, "and this is Valiance," she finished as he settled atop her poll once more.

They’re not tormented or anguished for long on the borders of an old world she used to cherish, used to protect, for no sooner had she bid welcome and salutations did one arrive in the form of a familiar, beloved friend. How oddly time had shorn and frayed the edges of assaults and defeats, carried and caressed, finessed and cradled the promises of renewal and resurgences. Not many seasons ago she wouldn’t have been permitted to wander into these scenic halls and indulge in the sea air she’d once loved so much, and now, she was received with amiability and beneficence. Had they all grown so much? The outcry was a wondrous beam of hope, the fluttering of wings, quite grown since she’d seen them last, and the inky, ivory splashed plumes a way to nurture enlightened smiles and unearthly grins. While Hemlock hooted and trumpeted, played with Imogen who chittered, chattered and batted at him in return, Lena’s heart opened to the delight of Alysanne’s arrival, thrusting away the poltergeists and lingering damnations. Welcomed, despite everything that had occurred there (wars, battles, sieges, lives lost, children stolen, bleating for their mothers), received and greeted by its nurturing arms. Her voice bordered on the serene, on the majestic, on the tranquil, for all the niceties expressed through the Pegasus’ warmth and deliverance, because she was just as thrilled, just as ebullient, to see the pair. “Alysanne! I’m so happy to see you! Have you and Hemlock been well?” Her companion’s keen observations landed upon the carefully kept herbs in Imogen’s maw, and the Time Mender grinned all the more for the astute perusal (noted the ruminations of a garden, for it sounded absolutely divine and heavenly). “We brought some herbs from the Basin. I’m sure some look familiar to you?” Before she could gesture towards the specific plants locked in the vixen’s jaws, another settled before them, companion and equine, and it took her a few moments to rekindle the recognition – the femme with a dragon, not altogether poised, careening through the sky when they’d wandered from the hilltops of ice and snow, trying to connect, trying to establish, a peaceful interlude. All beneficence and nightingale song, the nymph delighted in the draconic figure, now much more composed, much more capable, and the dove settling in whimsical coos. If Resplendence felt any terror or apprehension from her appearance, the sylph tried her best to assuage the sentiments – regal, composed, elegant and refined, bubbling, blossoming ebullience. “Oh! I remember you – from when we offered a truce between the Edge and the Basin. But, I’ll reintroduce myself! Lena, Time Mender of the Basin, and my companion, Imogen.” She paused, glancing skyward to the agile lizard, brandishing a tiny grin. “I’m glad to see your bonded has grown.” Then she winked, as if sharing in a delightful joke (or perhaps pretending the dragon hadn’t tried to scorch Roland once upon a time), continuing the conversation, delving into curiosity and exploits. “I suppose these plants will be for your garden. What a remarkable thing to have in your herd! Was it your idea?”

“We have, thank you!” It was true enough, the pair had been fairing rather well since the last time they spoke. This didn’t feel like the time to bring up or explain the darker of moments that had occurred, but rather to focus on the sunshine. Too much darkness in this world lately, Alysanne did not wish for it to sully the reunion with such talk. Not when there were just so many other things to talk about – that she would greatly prefer to talk about as well! “And I trust the same for you two? I imagine the Basin would be quite beautiful in the spring.” Although she had been there before, the other herd lands remained a tantalizing mystery to Alysanne. What was it like in the northern regions during the spring? Or the winter! Surely inhabitable, but this last winter had been harsh even here in the Edge.

Alysanne’s comment about how there were a couple familiar plants in the collection that were indeed familiar hardly made it past a nod before they were joined by another friend of hers. How perfect that Resplendence should show up! Perhaps her ear was burning or perhaps it was simply good timing. Either way, these were two mares that the pegasus was sure would get along splendidly once they discovered their common interests.

In greeting she whickered softly, accompanied as always by Hemlock’s cheerful hoot toward the mare (though for his part he landed near Imogen so as to stay away from Valiance).

An easy and warm smile took over her features as she relaxed, letting Resplendence take the lead in the conversation about the garden. It was hers, after all! Whether she thought it was useless or not, Lena seemed quite taken with the idea and that seemed like a very good sign indeed.

it's what you feel but can't articulate outloud

She did not hear much of the conversation, she wasn't sure that she wanted to hear the conversation. She probably wasn't needed. But, she was here now and it was going to be rather difficult to tuck tail and run with Alysanne there right beside her. A gentle smile was forced onto her face as the unicorn began to speak, talking about the embarrassing moment when Valiance had tried to attack one of their other members while they came to talk about a truce. A gentle smile that somehow managed to stay because of the whicker given by Alysanne and the hoot from Hemlock.

Res dropped her head, swallowing uncomfortably as she offered her name again and that of her companion. "Pleasure," she whispered, eyes not raising as she was told about how her bonded had grown. There was a huff from him, as well as a few aggravated clicks. Yea. He'd grown, but he still would divebomb anyone who was a threat to his companion. "Talking down," he grumbled through the bond, and Res could only continue to keep her head low, pleading with him to just stay there and not do anything else.

Then, Lena continued to go on, asking about the garden and talking as if it were amazing. But, it wasn't. It wasn't amazing because no one else seemed to use it. It just sat there, being tended by Resplendence and almost no one else. "Y-yes. My garden. I-I started it after the endless night…" a break in her voice as she took in a deep breath. "I had to start it over after these monsters and darkness c-came." she whispered - eyes still trained upon the ground in embarrassment.

She couldn't believe that the mare from the truce was at their borders again and that she had run into them once more.

The presence of friends was a breath of fresh air, curling and coiling in a clean, serene poignancy – here, there were no threats, no murders, no ruin or devastation, just the magnificent essence of affability, of ebullience, of faith and conviction. The Songbird didn’t press the matters of the world controlling, dictating, conspiring against their movements and motions, and caved into the feeling repose and relaxation, sighing, breathing, into the measures and comfort of goodwill. Alysanne’s gestures and thoughts were harmonious, strung together on pleasantries and fortune, the snatches and vestiges of Birdsong and the beauty of the Basin; her smile widened, brightened, and the nightingale was herself all over again before beastly contortions or avaricious claws: honey-spun, sugared, candied. Harmonious vocals, strung together on pieces of taffeta, of silk, of carillon bells and chimes, floated easily through the breeze, alive and renewed. “We’re well! The Basin is thriving once again.” For Imogen’s part, she enjoyed and tumbled about the forest undergrowth, batting towards Hemlock’s long feathers (keeping one eye upon Valiance, because she hadn’t forgotten the lizard’s flight towards Roland either).

The lithe nymph, the sienna sylph, not to leave out the sober, solemn Resplendence, directed her attention upon the whispering femme, wondering if she’d dove a bit too far in her conversation. The femme seemed hesitant, reluctant, gazing at the ground, at the roots and stems and leaves, condemning her soul to another world, another place, and Lena’s brows furrowed for a moment in concern. She arched one brow towards Alysanne in silent, vibrant questioning, and then stoked her calm, ebullient pieces back amidst the softer belle. Her grin wove into kinder, gentler flames, not pressing, not coaxing, but a mere enticement of benevolence, consideration, and affection – the swallow couldn’t possibly know the reasons for her timid behavior, but she certainly didn’t want to be the cause. The garden could be a wondrous conversation, and the Mender was certainly intrigued by the intricacies and techniques required to ensure it remained whole, alive, regrown year-by-year, season-by-season. Perhaps Resplendence was remarkably clever, capable of sustaining life for lengthy periods of time (and wouldn’t they all be blessed to hold such a talent), and Lena longed to compliment the sentiments. Her musings sang in courteous, dulcet riches, smooth and eager, musical and alluring. “It seems like a brilliant notion! What do you grow?” The flames of her curiosity, stoked and kindled, yearned to see, to witness, to examine the mentioned flowerbeds, with its enriched soil, with its vibrant greenery, with its shades of hope, but also didn’t want to invite herself or drag the femme into further regret and penance. Perhaps she could be satisfied by description alone, and imagine the shrubs, the herbs, and the blossoms, springing forth and opening up to the sunlight.

A kinder companion might have invited Valiance to join their tumble, but Hemlock was too wary of the red dragon to give him a kind thought and too enraptured in his game with Imogen to care very much. He alternated running (read: wobbling) along the floor and allowing her to catch up just enough before he took flight and circled around to try to catch at one of her tails as she was trying to catch his.

And the jovial mood did not end there, it wrapped Alysanne right up and she listened to the happy news that the Basin was thriving. “That’s wonderful to hear!” She exclaimed truthfully. She may not know very much about that northern herd but it was where Lena made her home and that was certainly all she needed to know in order to wish them well.

It bothered Alysanne that Resplendence didn’t seem to understand how truly remarkable her garden was, everyone else seemed to be able to! For her part she was absolutely thrilled, and not at all surprised, by Lena’s reaction to the idea. Her unicorn friend had been such a pleasure to go herb-hunting with in the near-frozen Basin and had been able to locate some of the harder to find specimens that Alysanne had set out to look for.

She stayed quiet as an exchange between the other two healers began - Resplendence explaining when she had begun the garden (after the couple stutters, Alysanne reached out with her wing to gently brush a couple feathers against her friend’s side to give her courage, soothe her), and then Lena asking about what was grown there. It was a question that the pegasus could have answered, at least partially, but she would defer to the gardener first and then pipe in if assistance was required. Or maybe if Resplendence just didn’t feel like talking!

Every once in a while, Alysanne remembered that not everyone blossomed under social situations and to let those that didn’t take their time. She tried to remember that, at the very least. Maybe this time, standing as she did feeling completely at-ease and her eyes illuminated with a smile, just keeping shut would be enough for now. Lena was wonderful company after all, and she so hoped the two of them would get along. The garden and the gifts that were brought from up north would surely do wonders to create something between them.

She was not necessarily comfortable. After all, she had done a very good job of embarrassing herself the first time that Lena had come here. And now, she wasn't quite sure how she was going to be received. So, she trained her eyes on the ground for the most part until it was that Alysanne gently pressed her feathers against Res's coat. A sign of support for the timid mare.

She swallowed, as the other mare asked what was grown. Then, she carefully allowed a few words to form and spill from her maw. "The natural herbs that grow in the Edge… some from the Wilds that can thrive in our soil and weather but never actually grew here because they require maintenance . We um…. We also have a few poisons strewn throughout, in the case of their necessity…" she tried to explain, shuffling her limbs as Valiance pressed in closer to her. The garden was huge, hard to explain. She gives out a short cough before looking over toward Lena. "P-perhaps you would l-like to see it?" Broken words, uncertain invitation. The garden was her home, but since Alysanne seemed to be friends with this mare from the Basin, Res would try to be as nice as she could.

Still, though, she did not allow her eyes to linger long in Lena's gaze. A sign of respect, for her, and an easy way to allow her to radiate that she was not quite comfortable in her own skin.

Yea. She didn't like social situations. Obvious much?

Her concern unfolded in soft, dulcet waves, worried and troubled that she perhaps had pressed too far into Resplendence’s comfort, became too bold, too enamored with friendship, with amiable spirits, that she’d forgotten what it was like to be shy, to be tucked too far into one’s self. The Songbird had once drifted beneath canopies and boughs, shunned and disregarded, forsaken and isolated, and never wished those circumstances upon another being. She yearned to pull, to tug, to weave the other femme out of the miseries, out of the melancholies, of her own flesh and mind, but had no ability or right to do so. It had to be Resplendence who wanted to alter, who wanted to change, who wanted to morph from caterpillar and cocoon to beautiful, gracious butterfly, and despite the anxious exterior, despite the pricking of uncomfortable granules, the nightingale still remained, a glowing beacon of serenity and beneficence. Gently, quietly, she extended her nuptials and grandeur into the enchantment of the thicket and cliffsides, murmuring a melodious, mellifluous croon down into the floor, where it peeked and tumbled in golden, gilded ferns and rapacious, hungry violets, beautiful and exuberant. Meant to soothe, meant to radiate peace, happiness, calm compositions and florid, heartfelt wishes, it danced and twirled, delighted and amused, diverted and conjured tranquility; the swallow grinned and winked towards Alysanne as she offered feathers and wings in hand, in comfort, and the Mender drummed reassurance down into the interludes of fronds and friends. Then Resplendence offered what she’d hoped to hear all along, an invitation, a summoning, to the beloved garden, to a grove of herbs and wildlife, to serenity and versatility, and the maiden of the Basin hoped somehow, someway, the pale femme’s pride would rise beside the mounds of dirt and soil, that she could declare satisfaction and achievement at such an undertaking. The grateful, whimsical entity listened, smiled, and embarked into graceful, grateful finesses, obliged and appreciative of the moments given, of instances to be cherished and stored. Lowering her cranium in beholden glows, she delivered an elegant, softened aria, bending and granting reposeful diatribes. “I would love to, if you don’t mind.” She gestured to Imogen, who scampered and chirped alongside, still holding onto the precious herbs from rime and glaciers. It’d be an opportunity to explore what other minds could come up with, what could be shared amongst the Basin whims, what she could embody in her own homeland to ensure their safety; a gift she wouldn’t take for granted.

Every time it was mentioned, it always struck Alysanne as a little bit funny that Resplendence grew poisons in the garden. She didn’t quite agree with the practice (couldn’t a good, caring conversation solve the problem?) and the stuttering, sweet mare who shied from a kind stranger did not seem like the type to poison someone.

But then, Resplendence’s devotion to the Edge would probably cause her to act in all sorts of surprising ways. There was a brilliant amount of strength in the pretty dun, whether she believed it or not, and Alysanne rather expected plenty of surprises from her as their friendship progressed.

Alysanne listened in comfortable silence as the two conversed, watching carefully for signs that Resplendence was too uncomfortable. Luckily, that did not seem to be the case. It was the usual bundle of nerves associated with socializing, something that Alysanne rather wanted to help her with. Socializing did not always have to be such a scary thing - though she had to admit that on occasion she found herself in a situation that she would have much rather avoided.

But without too much hesitation, it was agreed upon that they would visit the herb garden and Alysanne was delighted! Hemlock stopped pestering Imogen and fluttered up to his bonded’s head, aware that they’d be moving along. “Wonderful! You’ll just love it, Lena. Resplendence has done a beautiful job taking care of it. I like to help but she’s the real mastermind.” It was difficult to turn off the complementing-your-friends kick when she started on it and she really didn’t see a reason to not. Turning, she motioned for Lena to join them and allowed for Res to take the lead.

RESPLENDENCE && VALIANCE

Lena agreed to go see the garden rather enthusiastically. Res gave a gentle nod to the mare before she turned on her haunches and began back toward her garden with measured steps. Her audits flickered back and forth as she moved, trying to make sure that both were still following - not getting lost by falling too far behind. And, of course, while they walked, Alysanne continued to talk up Resplendence. She could not quite understand it, why she always got the praise. She never really tended to do anything. It was just… strange. Very, very strange.

When she showed up at the garden's edge she didn't really speak though, instead she clambered toward her canopy area and clung to the outside of it. She wanted to just go and hide back inside of it while Lena inspected the garden - judged how it looked. It still didn't have the greenhouse panels. It was still incomplete, much like Res' soul at this point in time. Yet, all she wanted was for it to be whole - for herself to be whole. Was it even possible? Could something like that just be given out so freely? She wasn't sure anymore - but she craved for her one idea to come to fruition. Was it really so much to ask?

Instead of speaking she gives a small cough as Valiance circles above the garden - giving a puff of smoke to let them know they had arrived - and then simply stood waiting, head low and ear falling to the side. Waiting. Waiting to hear it wasn't good enough.

Infinitely curious, brought up beneath boughs and trees to listen, to discover, to nestle and gather information, the sylph hastened the opportunity extended towards her, became a willing follower towards the heralded garden, draping a smile to each individual. She tried not to forge a steady gaze on the pulsing mist or flick an ear towards the waves crashing into rocks and cliff sides, allowed the memory to burn away as often images do; become little holes to pick apart later. Grateful and obliged, she dipped her head towards the destination, eyes widening, brightening, at the speculative trappings of soil, marvelous, idyllic, chaste and quaint. She loved every bit of it, from the burrowed herbs, neatly lined, to the promise of a greenhouse along the sides; and quirked just a hint of a brow as she noted a trace of poisons within the bed, sleeping soundly with curatives. An impish curve to her lips broadened and expanded with a minute glance towards Alysanne, then a more curious gaze set upon Resplendence, because while the other femme didn’t appear to be one who indulged in toxins or venoms, Lena was elated, delighted, pleased to see there was bite beneath the layers of innocence. Saying nothing of it, raising her head in appreciative gestures, she traced her grin back towards the dun beneath the canopies, draped and lavished in ebullience, in contentment. “What a lovely garden! I’m so thankful you allowed me to see it.” Quickly thereafter, she motioned to Imogen, who chirruped with her mouth full of greenery, skipping over and laying them neatly towards a dry spot in the plot, then stepping back so the wares may be inspected. Lena ran her stare over and over along the lawn, speculating if one day she would be able to administer her own amongst the snowy abyss, if it could survive the constant threat of winter, the enduring taste of Siberia, or if it was already damned before it began its first sprouting. A triumphant, bolder, persistent side of her won out over the claim, however, and firmly intended to ask her sovereigns if she could have a little piece to muse and fuss over. Her aria returned, fresh, mellifluous, bright and charming. “Truly, thank you again. You’ve lent me a lot of ideas.”

They followed Resplendence’s lead, though Aly certainly knew the way. She was happy to let her friend lead, feeling the bliss of being in the company of two healers she respected and loved so much. Hardly mattered what they were doing, they could have been just lying around basking in the sunlight or standing around talking and she would have been thrilled - but the fact that they got this chance to share in a hobby she knew they all loved, well, it was just perfect.

Valiance released a puff of smoke and they arrive, Alysanne stepping aside to allow Lena room to move around and explore as she wished. There was a brief moment of worry when it looked like their host would be retreating beneath her canopy, but instead she stood outside and watched. Was she worried? Alysanne wished she could have soothed her but the praise that came from Lena would hopefully be enough. “A garden in the Basin would be so lovely! Certainly makes it easier to find the herbs when you need them.” Alysanne chuckled, thrilled (and not surprised at all) over Lena’s favourable reaction to the garden. “If you need any help getting it set up don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t forget, I’ve got fertilizing hooves.” She winked at the horned mare, recalling when they had first met - when she had been sharing that little trick with the mosses and the ferns that grew, somehow, beneath the earth in that brilliant cave. It was certainly handy when it came to gardens and the effects would likely be most welcome in the north!

Her attention turned then to her herdmate and she asked with a warm smile. “Do you want help with the herbs Lena brought?” This was always going to be Resplendence’s garden and Alysanne was always careful to ask her permission for any help that she wanted to provide. But if she would rather take care of this on her own, she’d happily walk Lena part of the way back to the Basin and leave Resplendence alone. Not that she wanted to part from her dear friend, of course, but she was starting to learn the signs that socialization might be taking a bit of a toll and was willing to give Resplendence an ‘out’ if she’d prefer to be left alone.

Resplendence
it's what you feel but can't articulate outloud

Lena praised the garden, thanking Resplendence for allowing her to see it. There was a gentle bob of her head as Res swallowed, eyes lingering across the garden and watching as the healer from the Basin inspected what was before them. Still, she was not yet comfortable with sharing all of this with them. She still saw them as a threat, though she hoped that was no longer the case, and it was a hard feeling to shake.

Alas, the Mender's companion bounced along the edge of the garden, placing the plants on a clear and dry spot before moving backwards. Valiance landed on the ground beside, already digging some holes for the plants as Resplendence looked them over. Each of them were new to her, plants she'd never encountered. She tried to look them over, to understand them while the other pair of mare's talked. But, still, she could not figure out what exactly the herbs where, what they might be used for.

When Alysanne asks if she'd like assistance, Res's eyes flickered upward once more and Valiance stopped what he was doing. "I… I actually don't k-know any of t-them…" she whispers, voice low and shaky from the social interaction. "So assistance w-would be lovely…" She moves forward a few inches, separating out the plants by their similarities. She doesn't dare pull out any seeds from them, though. Not yet. She wants to make sure that she could recognize them if she had to in the future, and by pulling out seeds it would make it more difficult to do so.

Guidance and support lifted their wings and spread their plumes, her heart soaring on the rays of delicacy and merit, indulging in warm smiles and sunny dispositions, embarking down the paths lined with edges, stones, and gardens – her voice filtered over the grandeur, swinging along the opulence, emboldened, hastening the tunes of sagacity and wisdom. Her maw touched upon each bestowed plant, singing their credence and benedictions, the first, lined with berries, bore its significant dubbing. “This is bearberry – only use the leaves for any medicinal purposes. They’re said to help with any urinary problems.” The nymph’s stare dropped towards the next, hovering diligently over a group of violet florets, bloomed beneath the Siberian horizon. “The pasque flower has several known remedies, from cataracts, nerves, depression, to asthma, earaches, and even some skin infections.” The third reigned as a willow, soft and limber, lithe, leaves serrated, honed like keen blades, Imogen chirping at its vital contents and towards the flying lizard digging holes. “The diamond-leaf willow contains a large amount of vitamins and nutrients, perhaps even richer than some fruits.” She motioned towards the last, a bundle of evergreen fronds tied and tethered together with delicate, ivory blossoms. “The Labrador tea can be used for skin complaints and colds.” Finally, her head rose back to join the others, winking at Alysanne again, for she so enjoyed her guidance, her company, her easygoing, gentle nature, and continuing to delight in Resplendence’s presence, a keeper of gardens, secrets, and intriguing surprises. “Just be careful with dosages, of course. Sometimes we can have too much of a good thing.” Herein she laughed, blending aria whims with specious, furtive runes, because she’d seen the poisons lingering along the threshold, because they’d fought skirmishes too, because some portion of their lives would always be a fleeting nuance of fairy tales, skimmed and scorned, blighted down into venomous indulgences and frayed ends of bedlam. The sylph’s stare roamed from creature to creature, passing a soft breath between her teeth and tongue, as if a great burden had been lifted, dusting away all the haunting lullabies on one gust of morality. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”

There was a pleasant spur of surprise when Resplendence actually said she would welcome the assistance. Especially from a near-stranger! Perhaps she was starting to relax just a little? Then, it was always hard to tell with her wasn’t it? Still, there was no point in speculating or wondering - not when there was work to be done. Lena happily obliged, explaining what each plant was and the uses for them.

The mention of the herbs that Alysanne had gone to look for in the Basin caused her to smile - returning the look that was cast her way when Lena looked to her. Happy memories of a day spent in the Basin hunting for herbs that were not seen in the Edge. When she had brought the pasque flower and bearberry back last time, they had not taken very well to the different soil - she had planted them somewhere other than the garden so that she could see if they would take before bringing them to Resplendence. She hadn’t even been sure that the other healer would welcome new herbs that she didn’t find himself but perhaps suchs worries had been unfounded. The garden would, after all, be forever Resplendence’s garden - she was just a visitor.

Alysanne was happy to let these two dear friends of hers converse, allowing her own mind to wander between the past and present. She did take a step forward to examine the herbs that Lena had brought that did not ring a bell - the labrador tea and diamond-leaf willow. What splendid plants! The diamond-leaf would be most useful if they could grow it in the greenhouse, keep it for the winter months to combat malnutrition when the variety of food lessened and good, hearty meals were scarce.

There was an easy, bright and warm smile constant on her face when her attention turned back to the other mares. Even though she didn’t have much - anything, really - to add to the conversation she was at complete peace just being in their presence.
