The Silver Doe

It was Wynter who lead the way to The Falls, her bright white feathers were blinding whenever she flew under the burning gaze of the sun. After receiving the invitation to visit the crumbled remains of a once mighty mountain range, Arah had taken some time before turning up. The doe ended up traveling through the Deep Forest, past The Threshold and then she even wondered up through the Frozen Arch to pick some wild flowers from her homeland. From day one it had been drilled into her that arriving without a gift was rude, besides she figured Midas had probably never seen these flowers before. In the end it had taken quite some time to finally be approaching the border of Midas' home. She took her time, pausing to study a butterfly or watch a rabbit race across the plains, now that she had finally arrived Arah did not want to appear desperate to explore this land and meet the seemingly rather withdrawn members of this herd.

It was boiling in the heat of the sun, a light sweat covered her body from remaining so long under the sun's intense gaze but Arah wanted to remain visible, trying to convey early on that she was not a threat. No doubt by now if someone had been patrolling they would have spotted her and reported back to the rest of the herd.

From a distance she can hear the waters from what she assumed where ether a bay or lake pouring over the top of the rocks, the water cascaded down to create a series of beautiful water falls; a few she could see even from here. Golden orbs traveled over the sparse forest, the skinnier newer trees that dotted the landscape grew to the front; this past Birdsong had no doubt been good to them. Closer to the border now, her pale hooves brushed along the wild flowers that had sprouted. Wynter had The Basin's flowers clutched in her talons for Midas and his family, but her daughters would probably like these. Arching her neck gracefully she plucked a bunch of them and gently held them between her teeth. Continuing towards the border, her eyes lit up at the sight of a rainbow rising above a pool of clear water. She could almost feel the Earth God embracing her. with this small gesture. Finally her hooves touch the border and the doe comes to a stop.

"Midas?" Her voice is muffled through the flowers though and it sounds more like 'Meradis', with a roll of her eyes she waits for Wynter to come down and assist her. Huffing with frustration Arah throws her head back to stare at Wynter. 'Faigh síos anseo tú imbecile!' Annoyance rang through the bond, both hot and slightly frustrated with each other. Winter did not wish to come, Arah had enough of her bonded whinging. After a few moments Wynter finally did and she was bid, hovering a few centimetres off of the ground the snowy griffin dropped The Basin's flowers so she did not crush them when she landed. Landing beside Arah, her bonded clicked her beak in a show of anger as the doe gently nudged Wynter's wings open and placed the new flowers in the crook of her left wing joint. Gently tucking her wing into her side, Wynter held on to the flowers for Arah, not without giving her a rather fantastic stink eye first. "Ná breathnú ar dom mar sin." The bond remained silent. Brat. Smiling in spite of Wynter's current attitude the doe cleared her throat and looked over The Falls before trying again; "Midas?"
Side by side the doe and griffin waited to be received by who and whatever resided inside this fascinating herd land.

No one crosses into the Falls without my knowledge. At least, I like to think that is the case, although I know that I fail in that aspect more often than I succeed. However, in this case, I just happen to be lucky enough to see a strange mare crossing into our land, and I know that it is one of my duties as Legatus to greet the trespasser guest and see what it is that she - for it is a she, I believe - seeks in the Falls. I wander by the path, up toward the entrance of the Falls. The lovely lady remains there, and I must say lovely for she is. I hear her call for the King, but I do not see his arrival yet. Damaris trails at my feet, but runs ahead to greet the stranger. She approaches the antlered mare at a trot, then sits down in the middle of the path, blocking it until I have joined her. A griffin flutters around her. I have only heard of them before, but never seen them. In the griffin's beak are flowers. Is this some sort of date the lady has with my Czar?

I stand next to Damaris, who has moved over to the side of the path, allowing me more space. I watch the elegant lamb with my pale eyes. She smells of the Basin, and I'm wary of her presence. She certainly doesn't look like a great threat. But what do I know of Basiners, perhaps she is a weapon disguised by innocence. But no, I think not, and who am I to jump to conclusions?

Vitani the Reckless

Today, i've slipped my guard once again. What can I say? I'm getting good at getting away from the annoying mare I call Mom and her thingy Keiran. She's done well since we returned from seeing that... That mare who was laying dead. I could tell she was dead from the way her sides didn't move and the way the others spoke. Ah well. I wonder what happened, but it's not for me to figure out. After all, as i'm constantly reminded... I'm just a baby. Yeah, well. This baby was out exploring my home without you and theres nothin' you can do about it.

Awwww crap. I've gotten to close to the edge of the herdlands. I can see Daddy up ahead stopping some strange mare with antlers. I snort, deciding since it's been awhile since i've seen my Daddy i'm gonna go say hello. I prance my way over, flipping my little stub of a tail as I go. After all, i'm hot stuff don't cha know. Gotta act it if imma be it. "Daddy!" I squeal all happily as I get close. I'm still learning to talk, but for now i'm going to test my skills out on my Daddy and this new antlered girl. I stop just beside him and his thingy... I just don't know what to call it. "Daddy who she? What that with her? Is it like Momma's Keiran thingy?" Oh yeah, i'm cool. I did it without stuttering once. I look up at him, my dual colored eyes shining brightly.

I then look to her, tempted to fire off more questions to her. For now I settle just being near my Daddy. So what if I was heading out to see if I could find Breccan or any others to play with. He didn't need to know that I had planned to leave the safety of the herd.

The Silver Doe

At the arrival of a dog, Arah watched it curiously, amusement sparkling in her eyes. She'd never met one before, apparently they were extremely loyal creatures. Protective of their families as well. The dark beast trots closer to her before promptly planting herself in the middle of the path, presumably blocking Arah's entrance. Beside her pale legs, Wynter clicks her beak in warning, staring down at the creature as though she was dinner; the dog was getting too close and the griffin already was in a bad mood. Lifting her golden orbs up towards the approaching figure of what she assumed was a solider, Arah remained where she was, a placid mask painting her features. His body was think, brutish and scarred and the dull goldish colour of his coat melted down to black around his ankles.
This beast was not attractive.
Yet as he surveyed her doubtfully the doe smirked, his silent demeanour does not worry her.

Before she can speak the noise of movement reaches her pointed ears, they turn to listen. Light footsteps sound, conceivably they where not particularly sturdy or loud. A foal, she guessed. A youngin does indeed appear, and at the sight of her father, the young filly least out a delighted squeal. Winter shies away from the young girl, hissing at the high pitched sounds the girl was babbling off. Even Arah, a mother herself, was taken aback at the carefree way the girl gushed.
Her daughters had been taught politeness from day one as a matter of course, the doe had not allowed them to simply wonder off and go interrupting adult's meetings. Especially if someone had arrived at the borders, when they where young she did her best to keep them well out of harms way.

A kind smile lit up Arah's chops though as she surveyed the boisterous girl. Winter had gone back to watching the dog, daring it to come closer. Arah instead turned to asnwer the young girls questions. "Hello there." Gently picking up a single flower Arah moved closer and went to place it behind the filly's left ear (should the filly not freak out and get her father to attempt to attack the doe). Stepping back she smiled, "these are some flowers from the north," The flowers were a mix of blue, purple and even a dull gold, the light blue had been gifted to the filly. It was the less delicate flower of her bunch and might survive the rambunctious filly longer than the others. The girl was not horned, it was doubtful she would ever travel so far north and see any of these blooms again. Glancing down towards the bristling griffin Arah giggled softly. "This is Wynter. She's a griffin and my bonded companion." The final question she did not bother to attempt answering.
A Keiran thingy? Even she did not know what that was.

Turning away from the girl the doe looked upon her father, sizing him up, watching him for a moment. Her new words were spoken with a gentle hymn. "I was invited to visit the falls by Midas." Looking over his shoulder at the land, Arah found that it was getting harder to conceal her excitement. Carefully the doe bent down and began to collect the rest of her flowers, once again passing them to Wynter. Bored of standing here, Arah looked expectantly at the ugly brute. Clearly she was going to have to give him props. Putting a delicate smile on her lips and widening her eyes ever so slightly she allowed her magic to awaken. As it followed through her warm blood the rest of her body peaked with excitement, she channeled the lightest of touches towards the great brute. She did not want to take over completely, just help him realise that standing here really was counter productive. The magic laced and wove through her words, her hymn calling for his attention. "I'd be ever so appreciative if you'd escort me inside." Wynter was feeling smug at her mistress' abilities, choosing to now ignore the dog, the griffin ruffled her neck and haughtily looked away. "Perhaps straight to Midas?" It appeared he was the only one willing to converse with her at any rate. The magic held throughout her melody and even as she feel silent the lightest trace remained in the air.

To my surprise, Vitani appears in rush of energy behind me. She calls out to me - 'Daddy!' My heart warms at the sound of her voice. My beloved daughter already growing so fast and.. so feisty! 'Watch over her, Damaris. I won't have this stranger harm her.' I murmur to my companion through our bond. Damaris backs up and tags at the heels of the filly, making sure that neither she nor the mare makes any sudden and threatening/stupid movements. I'm sure my vivacious daughter won't appreciate the babysitting, but that is not her decision. She notices the stranger - it is impossible not to - and instantly begins to throw questions out into the open air. I have not even asked any questions myself, and I feel somewhat out of place having my daughter be the primary interrogator here.

The strange vixen seems also a little surprised by the boisterous child. She moves forward to place a flower behind the child's ear, and though I remain still, Damaris makes sure that no funny business happens. Her green eyes flash with warning, but both of us stay silent. The movement is gentle enough, and I should not want to punish a friendly gesture with violence or aggression. The mare introduces the griffin as Wynter. I bow my head politely to the creature. "Yes, child. She is like Keiran."

The mare tells me she has been invited by Midas. That's all fine and well, but she has still not told me her name, which I consider to be a vital piece of 'guard the realm' information. She picks up the remaining flowers by her hooves and gives them to her griffin. When she looks at me next she has a strange look in her eyes. I feel some sort of prodding in my mind, and shake my head with annoyance. 'She's in my brain, Damaris. Telling me things...' Damaris growls at the mare. As I break eye contact my mind clears. I grown at the mare. "Instead of playing with my mind, Miss, I only ask that you provide your name." I huff at her, annoyed at her assumptions. "You could give me a little credit. I am not so defensive as to deny a foreigner a fair chance. But your assumptions make me trust you less." I wait for her to tell me her name, planning to move only once she has done so. I have no desire to prevent her from seeing Midas, only to do my duty. Besides, isn't it polite to introduce yourself? A hypocritical thought, as I realize I have not given my own name. "Let me start -- g'day, I'm Rostislav."

MIDAS
THE POISONED YOUTH
Patrolling. Yar, the task was mundane, redundant, predictable. (On most days.) Say true, I personally enjoyed ensuring that our borders were free of trouble. Tis comforting to know that all was well in the world just beyond our cliffs and waterfalls. But even a steadfast, patrolling king needed a few hours of rest/sleep; which as of late was becoming easier to obtain. Fewer nightmares, and with no recent trouble from Basin...peace seemed just over the horizon. Yet I'm wary, expecting this brief lapse of joy to be fleeting; all too soon dying in a bed of cold ash.

While I slept, Fina takes notice of the trio at our border upon returning from a hunt. She soars over to my cliffside lookout at a leisurely pace, aiming to inform me that a Basin lady stood at our doorstep. "Midas." Heavy lids rise, revealing a sleepy haze that is darkened by the shadow of yon rock under which I'd been dozing. I frown and repeated,"Basin?" Strange how one word could cause such obvious strain to slip into my tone. Neve stirred from a makeshift nest behind my nape, she poked free to peer out.

From on high I lean over the edge to catch a glimpse of our pale visitor and the dark pelt of Fall's Legatus, with his new daughter close at heel. Gems sharpen, recalling the image and name of our visitor. Arah had come to make good on my offer. Honeyed pinions spread from their holster, the muscles flexed fluidly until each feathered appendage began to balloon with air. With practiced grace I abandoned the mountain and glided into the brisk Birdsong air with every intent on sliding down to meet them.

Fina watched me leave, silent and content on remaining perched above and beyond earshot of this gathering. Aye, she wasn't much for company. Neve decided to stick around, she dug those razor sharp talons deeper when I pitched forward and carried us down to the soft turf. The pale Zephry rose, filled with curiosity when I alighted a dozen or so yards away with a welcoming beam already sliding across my face, "Hail, Legatus," gaze slipped to his daughter, softening. Closing the distance between us I returned my attention to the silvery woman and her snowy companion, "Arah," her name glides easily and with fond remembrance, "Welcome to Hidden Falls."

Vitani the Reckless

I watched as the mare and the way she looked at Daddy. I'm not sure I like it. However she speaks sweetly and places a flower behind my ear. I just stare, kinda in awe of the flower. It was beautiful, like the mare. "Thank you." But before I can say anything else Daddy speaks answering my question. So if her Wynter thing was called a bonded companion, and Daddy says Keiran is like Wynter... That must be what Keiran is too. I look around, suddenly seeing the dog thingy that had been near Daddy at my birth. I guess she must be Daddy's bonded companion. In those few moments my little brain just goes BOOM! It's almost an overload of information. I wonder how many others have companions and how one gets a companion.

My attention is caught again by Daddy speaking. "Instead of playing with my mind, Miss, I only ask that you provide your name." He huffs, I think he's mad at her. "You could give me a little credit. I am not so defensive as to deny a foreigner a fair chance. But your assumptions make me trust you less." He waits a minute or two then speaks yet again. Geeze Dad you talk a lot. "Let me start -- g'day, I'm Rostislav." I let it be quiet for a moment before speaking. "I'm Vitani" My voice is kind of sing songy.

About that time, here comes the Czar. I step close to my Daddy. I don't want to say I am scared on him.... But I kinda am. I look to him before my dual colored eyes go back to the Czar.
