:: FLYING RING COURSE ::
The first round starts by taking off at the HEAVENLY FIELDS, and will last 72 HOURS. Please be sure to note the description of the land, as follows:

Just east of the Foothills lies a narrow, rocky path. This rocky path winds around and up the side of one of the large mountains. The path is mired in fog and clouds, obscuring your vision. Just when you think you cannot walk any further, the cloud breaks and the top of the mountain is visible. Above the clouds is a flat, grassy land of the sweetest taste. Here, you are closest to the sun and the gods.

You will be flying through an intricately arranged course of RINGS, being held in the air by large birds, called in especially by the Moon Goddess. These rings will progress from black to white, with varying shades of gray, as you reach the end of the Heavenly Fields Course. It will also overlap above the airspace of the Threshold, so you are moving SOUTH.

Here are some rules to note:
  • You may only post if you previously signed up to compete in the Flying Race.
  • You must post in every round to gain ground.
  • Failure to post in a round will result in a rank drop of 2 positions, unless you are on a valid absence.
  • The order of the second round will be determined by posting order of this first round!!
  • An RE will be posting a minimum of 2 times in each round, dealing out malevolent or benevolent effects to the person who posted prior. RE post order will be determined by a die roll to ensure fairness.

You may post sabotaging other characters, but this will not affect the official rankings.
HAVE FUN!

How can we win? When fools can be Kings
Such an odd spectacle were these rings with strange birds, Hector tilted his head and wondered where these kind of flying creatures had come from. It all added to the strangeness of this event, called forth by the mysterious Moon Goddess and his task was to fly through these rings that were presumably set up around the regions. Hector looked about himself and wondered briefly what the other competitors may think of such a competition. Was it odd to them too? Or was this normal? Helovia sure was a surprising place to the youthful giant.

Hector shook off his speculating thoughts and turned his attention back to the sky, flexing his wings and bracing his legs. Might as well give it a go chocolate coloured legs rippled as he raced forwards and built enough pace to plunge himself skyward, the wind whipping his leonine tail about franticly. Beautiful wings powered up and down, propelling himself towards the very first ring, horns dangerously protruding from the top to bottom of his white splashed face. Hector anchored himself slightly and twisted as he cleared the first black ring, crying out in joy as he flew southwards towards the next set of rings, pausing to eye the strange birds once more.

What a wonderful place this is. His thoughts echoed his own joy before setting his sights on the Threshold. The next ring before him looked a little greyer than the other and for the first time Hector realized they went paler in colour. Remembering this so not to loose his course, he swung himself higher into the air, planning on diving into the next one. His wings beat upwards before locking themselves closer to his large body which dipped back down and through the greyer ring.

Hector was thoroughly enjoying himself.

BEYOND HERE LIES NOTHING
The goddess of the moon wasn’t an entity he openly worshiped as he did the lord of earth. But as a benevolent being the shinning lady was worthy of all his respect; this race would prove such thinking to be true. Midas had spent the night near the shrine of his lord and awoken early to travel a short distance to the starting line. He was well rested and spiritually full after praying and worshiping his lord. Winged appendages beat with gracefully strength that was allotted to his species, each thrusting updraft sending excited beat into another powerful burst. It was plenty early and the lad arrived in plenty of time. Sleek frame angled toward the grassy meadow that would serve as their point of advancement.

Once body had settled and wings gave fold along his sides, Midas allowed skull to take in features around and inhale all that currently was. Firstly he noted that there were fowl, large and beautiful as they hovered in pairs; grasping within their talons darkened rings? The first set stood out at a sharp contrast against the brightened morning sky. Brows furrowed and left hoof rose to betray sudden wash of nerves; tail lashed against his round thighs. This was going to be interesting. Winged brothers and sisters stood on his right and left.

Suddenly, like a alarm going off in his mind the signal to, 'start' rang true and the semi silence turned into a rush of wings and bodies as each tried to safely make it toward the first black ring. Heartbeat shot up with limbs pumping earth and then thrusting his being skyward. A dusty stud had already made it to the first ring and beyond; but Midas was close behind. Tucking wings in like bullet he shot through and angled toward the next slightly lighter ring.

Midas's wings catch a warm southerly breeze that propels him ahead of the others by 2 individuals.

Leander's golden frame shined as it ascended up into the sky. The grassy field slipped farther and farther away from his feathered limbs. A sheet of blue and white lay before him, dotted with objectives in the form of rings. The tawny stallion was fairly new to Helovia still, and he knew that winning would be essential to getting ahead in this strange world. Despite the myriad of thoughts that plagued his mind, the competition was top priority for now.

Varied draft lineage made his muscled form sometimes harder to maneuver, but the massive breadth of his wings also proved to propel him forward with great force. With careful skill, the brute made his way through the first dark rings. The birds holding them seemed to know their purpose well, but he still took good measure to avoid brushing the circles. Once the routine began, Leander increased his speed and swept more briskly through the course. The floating rings gradually lightened as he passed through them, though they were only brief flashes of silver in the stallion's ivory ringed eyes. Haunting thoughts of the ebon Unicorn girl were pushed away by the thrill of the game, and once more a light-hearted look found his face .

Dark blue eyes eyed the rings that were being held in the air birds. It was a strange spectacle, one he had never experienced in his old home, but his heart raced with excitement. It had to have been the heat of the moment that had him feeling excited over nothing more than a simple race. He only wished that the race would have started in a different location. One that didn't remind him of Janat and his brother, but soon the race would be started and he would be leaving the field behind.

Muscles tensed and bunched under the blueblack hide as the stallion waited for the signal to go. When it was given he sprung forward, legs pumping and hooves thundering against the field before he launched himself in the air. Two sets of wings beat in time and carried him high into the air and through the rings the birds were holding for them. Little attention was paid to those around him as he focused only on flying through the rings and gaining speed.

Breeze beat his wings slowly as he soared through the sky. He was carried by a strong wind towards north and be guessed he was going the right way because in front of him he saw a couple other pegasi. He thought the actual race would go back south, but first they had to get up there, right?

Breeze had never been to the Heavenly fields before, but after he’d signed up to the race he’d simply followed the other contestants and so far everything seemed alright. I least that was what he thought, but he hadn’t seen the ground for a long time because of a thick layer of mist so he didn’t know if he was keeping the right altitude and direction. Maybe they were all flying in a big circle? That would be something!

The cream colored colt than saw how the mist started to clear and beneath him a… well heavenly field… spread out. He noticed the rings and the birds right away and as they all got in line he tried to calculate how to best make his way through the course. When the starting signal was given he launched forward in the air beating his wings as fast as he could. He was beaten to the first ring by four individuals though, but he would not give up just because he got a bad start. The young stallion kept building up his speed, but he was careful to see to that he could still maneuver his body through the rings.

Before him was a black and blue steed with four wings and Breeze followed him closely, hoping for a opportunity to over take him.

Excitement trilled through the blue marked gelding as he lined up alongside the fellow winged horses. Salka had often held festivals and competitions, the society more entrenched in arts of all variety, while as these lands had thus far been dull and war-like. Unlike the normal reminiscing of Salka which brough a great sadness to him, Jaydan could only feel joy as he anticipated this day.

He'd been working hard to practice turns in the folds of the Dragon's Throat and pushing his endurance to even greater lengths. The blue jay horse was definitely of a competitive nature, particularly when it came to fun games among friends. He would be sure not to lose!

Now as he stood in preparation he stretched his limbs and flexed his wings, body dancing on his hooves which felt light as air. Barely able to contain himself the race began in a flurry. Wings and feathers rolled around him like a tidal wave, he among them as haunches shoved and forelimbs climbed.

Higher and higher they all poured into the sky, some proving faster than others, but it would be one's heart that would determine a winner. Leaving behind the sweet grasses of the fields Jaydan shot through a cloud and into the first loop of rings.

Kye led the way and showed her the path. Following the shadow of her charge was Xira, the green roan with the darkening coat and the navy eyes that perpetually brimmed with apathy. She ran now with a speed that was familiar to her and comfortable in its own way. She had run and flown so many times before, what was to make this time any different?

Her cream colored hooves cut deep into the flushed earth of the meadow as she bolted across the ground before spreading her wings, letting them fall, and beginning to take wing. On the ground, with her short, stocky legs, she was not as fast as many of the others. But in the sky, with Kye swirling about her and cutting the air around them as she led the way, Xira stood as much of a chance as any other pegasus there. With ease she maneuvered through the first, bigger rings, ducking and diving to pass through the black hoops that the birds suspended among the clouds. Constantly she whistled back and forth to Kye, keeping in touch with the falcon even when she could not see her.

The air cut and the mist choked and blinded her to the point where the fading rings grew harder and harder to make out. Xira found herself relying on the birdsong of her own companion and those that held up the rings to pinpoint locations. Despite the difficult atmosphere, however, she felt lighter than she ever before had. The flight itself was effortless as she glided on outstretched wings of emerald and chestnut. She saw the other pegasi around her only as shadowy figures through the clouds, and felt peacefully alone.

Golden eyes narrowed as the race begun, and the great steed paused to allow others to clear out the immediate area around him. Then he extended his wings, mindful of others with their smaller bodies and narrower wingspans and thus more fragile bones. A few steps forward were taken at a walk, before he built up speed into faster, thundering strides. Massive wings beat powerfully, and then he was conquering gravity and climbing skyward, trailing after the smaller racers but without a single concern about catching up. He was too big, too bulky, to compete in a speed duel. But endurance? That he had.

So he was content to power higher, aiming for the first ring. His gaze drifted toward the bird clutching the ring, a creature of the Moon Goddess. There was a brief moment where he wondered at the creature's courage, hovering and waiting out the passage of the racers. And then he was arrowing through the ring, tucking his wings closer to avoid bashing the sides of the ring, and directing his flight onward toward the next ring.

Lingering out of the way, the young gryphon waited. Crouched, attentive. It did not seem that very long ago in that moment since last she'd flown against other racers. Only this time she had to compete solely against other winged ones, and none without. And this time she would not suffer the ravages of heat, safely cocooned in her bubble of cold air that forever floated around her.

And then it was time, and she sprung upward. Silvered wings spread up and out before beating downward and sending her higher. Yet she was not the first to the skies, and she hoped to not be the last. Beak gaped slightly in an avian grin as she darted higher and swept through the first of the rings that the racers had to pass through. She did not expect to win, but merely wished to compete for the fun of it. It was thrilling to match herself against the winged equines, no matter the outcome.

Athletics. It was what the stallion thrived on. He was a warrior, a General even, training his body was what had allowed him to survive, what would ensure he continued surviving.

But this wasn't about surviving, or warfare. This was about games. A place to prove his athletic excellence, to pit himself against all others with wings (for it appeared the race was not limited to pegasi, but rather open to any who could fly), and truly test his abilities.

A piaffe of spanish lipizzan quality was performed by the charred stallion, who was itching to begin this race. Wings were lifted from his sides, warmed up and ready for flight, waiting for the starting bell that would give him reason to leap from the edge of the Heavenly Fields and begin the journey south through the rings held by magic above.

Suddenly, it all happened, and in a flurry of feathers and hooves, he was off. Broad wings were built to move with less agility than that of other, smaller winged beings, but over the longer distance the ease at which air was cushioned beneath him would give him the advantage - he hoped. Enormous flaps propelled him into the air, a cry of joy was sounded as he angled himself for the first ring.

Being careful to tuck his legs near his barrel, and fold his wings so that he essentially 'dived' through the ring, he pushed onwards, paying heed to others around him if only to ensure they did no impede his path and he they.

A flock of birds hit Azzuen on the side and cause a disaster in the air! This puts him back one place.
