Resplendence
and your light brought me back again
She was near her garden, taking up bed rest for the most part. But today she had started to move off, back toward the center of the herd land. Boredom, really, had been the main cause of her moving. Still, though, she inched closer and closer in.

It seemed like a normal day, for the most part. Though, it was definitely becoming harder and harder to move. Each step was more of a shuffle, slide, and wiggle then an actual step. But, she was covering ground quickly (as quickly as a pregnant mare could).

Alas, she just barely made it toward where the campfires used to be before she began to feel the overwhelming waves of contractions. Her body shuddered, limbs bending awkwardly in an attempt to start to lay down with each contractions. Valiance instantly emerges from the trees as Res lowers herself down by the nearest tree, breathing heavily in the process. "Quilyan, please…." she cries through the bond, in pain and uncomfortable as the contractions took over her frame.

Alas, she doesn’t whine, she doesn't cry out in pain - she simply lays there, rolled completely onto her side and concentrates on breathing. She knew the process, having had to go through it with twins. The intense pressure and pain. It would be shorter this time, thank the Gods (or so she hoped because she assumed it was only one child due to the amount of weight she had gained) and she would be able to get through this. But, still. She wanted Quil there. So, Valiance took off in a hurry searching for Quilyan, Kaj, Kahlua… anyone, really, that he knew cared for the Doctor and would protect her during this time.

Please, just please, let Quilyan get here in time.

Res has not yet given birth, but will in the next post, so Rue will post next round. Danke!

But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride...
Quilyan
...he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

The stallion had been standing by a stream, cloaked by the mists that were so prevalent in their homeland. He had tried to stay as close to his mate as he could in these last few weeks, knowing that her time had to be close (isn't that how it works with mares in foal?), but on this particular day, he had tried to allow her space so as not to suffocate her with his presence. Of course, he would pick today, of all days.

Zarina alerts him to Valiance before he sees the crimson dragon soaring above; before his lover's bonded can reach him, he is already moving, knowing that if the dragon has left Resplendence, it can only mean one thing.

It is time.

He crashes through brush, barely noticing the brambles that scratch at his pelt as he pushes past; and when he emerges from the trees beside his beloved, he pauses in momentary fear and nerves, for he has never done this before, never imagined what this moment will be like. He is about to become a father, and it terrifies him and enthralls him in equal measure. Will he be a good father? Or will he merely be passable, as his own had been, caught up more in his duty than in true love for his child(ren?) - will he ever know the difference?

The one thing he does know how to do is be there for Resplendence, and so he goes to her quickly, greeting her gently with a stroke of his maw. "I am here," he tells her softly. "I am here, Resplendence." It is all he can do, and he knows that, but still he shudders at the contractions wracking her tiny frame, so fragile in comparison to himself. How can she give birth without breaking? Even in this way, she amazes him.

It felt like it had been ages since she had been in her beloved home. As the mists curled around her slender limbs she only smiled, landing delicately over the glass wall that surrounded the thick evergreen borders. She had finally found some time back in here again, savoring the feeling of home underhoof as she made her way deeper into the forest. She had taken her time, letting hazel eyes drink in the expanse and familiarity of the Edge as her tired muscles began to finally feel strain. Letting a slight frown grace her maw she paused, stretching one ink and spotted limb at a time before shaking her entire body. With a flutter of her silken wings she was off again, walking at a slower pace in search of a decent place to rest.

What she didn't expect was the distant figure upon her side. Tilting spotted crown curiously, it was upon closer inspection she realized that the figure was a mare, belly swollen and full, rippling slightly from some unknown force. Pricking her receptors forward and letting black nares take in her scent, Myrrine slowly stepped forward, her steps tentative as she let out a soft nicker to announce her arrival. Only when a painted pegasus broke through the brush abruptly did she step back, slightly startled. She was silent as he spoke his calm words, reassuring her that he was indeed there. Resplendence, that was her name, and quite a pretty one at that. Stepping to the left she slowly walked around the duo, coming to face the maiden with hazel eyes warm and inquisitive," Miss Resplendence, are you alright? My name is Myrrine, if there's any way I can assist you I'll be happy to oblige." She didn't know what was happening, or what exactly made the stallion look so worried, but she only smiled, trying to keep a positive yet calm energy, so as not to bring anymore panic about the two.

Slowly she moved forward, offering a tender nuzzle upon the white and rose mare's cheek should she accept, before looking to the painted brute with that same, calm and gentle smile," What's your name Sir? Do you know what's wrong with her? Again, if there's anything that needs to be fetched I can get it so you don't have to leave her side." That smile never left, remaining pleasantly and gracefully upon her dainty maw as she patiently awaited for an answer, for anything that would signal a command so she could go and perform her duty. She wanted to help, it didn't seem right to simply leave the two alone in their time of need, especially since they needed someone now more than they probably ever would.

KAJ
everyone thinks we're perfect, please don't let them look through the curtains

There was something weird about knowing your sister was pregnant by your best friend.

Like, knowing that they had sex.

Kaj was no prude, but it still made him feel like a damn right creep most days when that thought crossed his mind. It was also difficult to figure out which one he wanted to bluster at more; his sister for being grown up (purposefully forgetting that she'd already had foals once before) or his best friend for knocking her up.

Still, in the end, Kaj was happy. Deliriously so. Resplendence glowed (quite literally, but still) with happiness as of late. It seemed exploding at him, and then Quilyan returning as Kaj had tentatively dared to promise, had finally helped seal up the broken structures in her mind and soul. It was beautiful to see, and it had helped lift the darkness from the king's soul, to see her so happy at last. She deserved it beyond measure, truly. It was about time she found her happily ever after, and every time Kaj laid eyes upon her swollen sides he found himself unbelievably giddy.

Would his relationship with Resplendence make him an uncle? He never dared to ask, not desiring to be presumptuous, but in his heart he secretly yearned for the day of the birth. Somewhere in his design, the Gods had placed inside his heart a fatherly yearning that could not be extinguished. Foals were his weakness, and sometimes he wondered if he really could have made that compromise he'd mentioned when he'd fought with Kahlua. To see their big eyes look up at him, so fragile and new, Kaj would do anything he could to protect them from the horrors of the world. The ones that had left him tainted and scarred in too many ways, the ones that had hounded his sister to her early grave and made him suffer the loss of her love and light.

The king had no companion to keep track of Resplendence, no way of knowing when her labor was close. It prickled his skin the longer her pregnancy wore on, not sure what the proper Helovian time span for pregnancies was. His own time in the womb had been terrifyingly short, with how magic had influenced him from the start of his life. It was weird to see her grow with each day, and yet happily go about her business. It was perplexing, but Kaj had long learned to accept that some things in Helovia he simply would never understand. Even if it hurt to realize that.

Luckily, though he didn't personally have a companion with which to alert him when Resplendence went into labor, the brindled sister did. Valiance was a familiar shape in the sky, but Kaj glanced twice when the dragon's urgency shone through like a beacon. The anxious noises chittering between his teeth was just as worrisome, and without a second thought Kaj turned from whatever useless task he'd been doing and raced towards the winged companion.

He was so scared. What if she was hurt? What if she couldn't handle the birth? She seemed so impossibly small, so breakable in comparison to the mares Kaj knew of olde. Though she had an iron will beneath all her tears and ruination, he feared for her safety and well-being nonetheless. It was his job after all. So instead of sparing any time, the king thundered through the forest on heavy hooves, carelessly shoving aside foliage that impeded his progress, uncaring how they tugged at his hardened outer feathers and caught in his slowly growing mane. He had to get to Resplendence. He couldn't let her be alone, not again.

The fires were a distant warmth that flickered cheerily in the distance, helping to calm the sudden pounding of his heart as he came upon the scene. Quilyan was already knelt at the Doctor's side, and though Kaj had many misgivings regarding the painted stag, those would have to be overlooked in favor of his sister laying prone and prostrate on the ground. The king was swollen to his fullest size in his worry for her, nares wide and colorful as he heaved to regain his breath. He moved to go to her side, but a spotted youth with the oddest wings interrupted his progress, and just like that he was melting.

A gentle smile spread on his lips, impressed both by her extensive vocabulary and professional atmosphere. She'd make a good nurse or diplomat someday, should her passions drive her down those paths. Instead of allowing Quilyan to answer, he stepped in to do so, allowing his once-brother to take his time with his mate, console both her and himself while he handled the young spotted fae. "She is going to give birth, child," he informed succinctly, but with a warmth to his tone that was unmistakable. As for her question, his mind whirred with all those lessons he'd attended with Alysanne and Resplendence. Oh Gods, what was the herb for labor, again? It wouldn't be fair to have Resplendence answer, Gods knew she had enough on her mind in that exact moment, so Kaj struggled until he brought the name stubbornly to his reluctant lips. "Angelica. We need angelica. It's in the garden, but it grows in the Edge naturally. Could you fetch some please? It's a very tall plant, long leaves, it's summer so it should have pale flowers. If the garden is too far, look near the little rivers and springs." He prayed she'd retain the information and fetch it for them, she was far faster than Kaj's hulking form after all.

Finally he turned to Resplendence, taking vigil on her empty side and easing to his knees beside her. "Hello aardbei," he whispered fondly. "What are you hoping for? A son or a daughter?" He hoped she'd see it clearly for what it was - a distraction from the pain of the contractions, a way to find safe haven in her mind to overcome the ordeal, even if she'd experienced it once before.

Ugh, that was really bad for some reason?? I'm sorry it'll get better.

resplendence ,
hold me now and leave me never

Aye, it was a few hours till dark - till she could give birth in the safety of the shadows and shrouded mists. Her contractions, though far apart, were more painful than the first time. It is all she can do to concentrate on pushing her pain to the edges of her mind and to keep the contractions at bay. She could go for a few more hours - that much she knew, she had done it before in times such as these. Yes, she would wait for Quilyan. She had to wait for Quilyan.

Her teeth gritted, jaw locking as another contraction wove in just as Quil appeared. He says that he is here, stroking his maw across her flesh as she holds her breath ,ear flickering back in the pain. Then, she lets out a snort, nostrils flaring wide to take in as much oxygen as she could. She had time before the next one, time to pull herself back together. "Quilyan," she breathes, joy on her breath even though one would assume there to be nothing but pain.

Alas, Valiance was not back when the young one appeared. He had gone back off, Res could only assume, to find Kaj as well. The young one's muzzle pressed up against Res' cheek in a comforting manner, most of the words having been lost upon the laboring mare's mind who could only concentrate on the scent of Quilyan and the calming vibes being radiated through her and Valiance's bond.

But Kaj came quickly, tearing through the trees just as Quilyan had a few seconds prior. He seemed to take care of the young one, nostrils also wide as he tried to gather back the oxygen. And then, pride radiated through her body with the next contraction - ear trained upon Kaj as he spoke of the Angelica plant, describing it perfectly. Gritting teeth, she snorted once more, twisting a little in her place before Kaj took his position by her other side.

Once her jaw unlocked she reached out, trying to grasp Kaj's wing, to pull it closer to her and then, to rest her maw against Quil's limbs - pleading for him to take a place near her head, to offer her a warm heart to concentrate on without the tight hold of usual. But know, really, that she was not afraid. No. She just wanted the comfort as the glitter pooled around her - probably being blown onto Quil and Kaj's coats. A few breaths, eyes flickering toward Kaj. "Y-you remembered…" A shudder as she felt another warning for the contraction. "You remembered some of the herbs, I'm so proud," she whispered to Kaj, before turning back toward his question. "A daughter, a daughter who won't be afraid…" she says before grimacing with yet another contraction.

She held it off for a few hours, equine bodies meant to stop it in case of danger. And, only when the darkness officially took over the forest did the hardest of contractions take over. Still, she was definitely feeling weaker, and as the foal began to be pushed out she let out a groan of a warning, "If I pass out, before the foal's chest is out… someone needs to get Alysanne." She doubted it would happen, but she had to be sure someone did something other than stare and think it would all be fine. Valiance had also gone when Kaj spoke of the Angelica and brought back a few, which Res had eaten quickly, and it was helping a little bit now. Thank the Gods. "Quilyan… what do you hope for?" she said, voice strained with more contractions.

About an hour later, the filly was finally out - curled up on the ground behind Res, who was now shakily pulling herself to her feet. Muscles weak, head pounding. She wanted to go and sleep, but she knew she couldn't yet. Instantly, she begins to start cleaning the embryonic sac off of the child, only stopping when she knew the foal could breathe and move without risking injuring herself. "What do you all think of… Rue?" she whispered, mind already racing to find a name for the child - something Quil and she hadn't covered in depth. Yes, it was an herb, and it started with an R, like the other females in her family. But… was it right?"

Still, she was starting to sway in place - but being too stubborn to start to lay back down. She had no doubt Quil or Kaj (even both of them) would chide her for pushing herself too hard, but… she didn't want to lay on the ground anymore. So, if she couldn't press against either of them for support, she would make due and press against a tree.

Yep, still had the mild stubborn streak. Go Resplendence! "More like, lay down, Resplendence," complained Valiance, who was now circling around the foal in a protective manner - carefully using his talons to tear at the sac that Res had stopped licking off while she stopped the world from spinning.

"If I Leave My Grin Behind
Remind Me That We're All Mad Here
And It's Okay"

It felt like she would float in that abyss for eternity. It grew more and more cramped, more tight, more... wrong, and she kept twisting, trying to find some way to get comfortable, like how she used to be. Yet it only got worse, and the child couldn't help the panic that had begun to settle into her soft body.

And then

IT happens.

There is a pressure, something moving her around against her will, and it goes on...and on...and on. She is being pushed somewhere, to something, and she can't tell what it is, yet she is helpless to it all. Deep down she is afraid(and kind of pissed) that this would go on and on as her captivity had, however that proves false. In a few, rapid shoves, she is dropped onto... well hell what was it? She didn't exactly care, instead opting to just flop onto her side and

S T R E T C H

Oh, she couldn't begin to describe the joy she felt at being able to unfurl her limbs and not hit anything. Something begins licking and nudging her, and as good as it felt all she could do was try and push the thingy away vainly with a hind foot, and miracle after miracle...it does! And when it goes, so does something else.

Rue takes her first breath, and immediately let out a sneezing cough hard enough to nearly roll her onto her back. It startles her(because she couldn't possibly have done that!) enough that her head jerks up, eyes opening(yay another first!) to see...

The hell?

Something kinda reddish is moving around her, cutting at the sticky stuff and further freeing her. Was this the nudgy-licky thing from before? She stretches her nose out towards it, somehow incredibly doubtful before she flops back onto her side, content to let the hoppy-thing serve her.

New life so far? Perfect.

But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride...
Quilyan
...he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

The prince is barely aware of the appearance of the youngling or the words that she speaks, though her voice is calming and reassuring. He notes that Kaj appears and is immediately filled with guilt that he has not sought his brother out sooner to explain his absence, but he is grateful that the king has sufficiently distracted Myrrine. His attention, however, is unwaveringly on his beloved, who remains prone on the ground. He glances to Kaj only when the stallion approaches, and is momentarily irritated by their lack of privacy; but then he remembers that Kaj is his king, and was likely there for Resplendence when he could not be, and he swallows his anger and offers a half-hearted smile. The worry in his eyes betrays his concern for Resplendence, and he doubts the king will hold it against him.

She wants a daughter, and he immediately realizes that that is his wish, too. Why should he want a boy, a son to take after him and learn his mistakes? A daughter would be as Resplendence is: a perfect, unwavering presence, a brilliant addition to their little family. He smiles, for real this time. "The child will have no reason to be afraid, my love. Why, look at all of us who already love him or her!" He nuzzles her affectionately.

The hours pass, nearly driving him mad. He finds time, as he waits impatiently, to consider his family - all that he has left and all that he has created for himself. Resplendence, his mate; Nasreen, his sister by blood; Kaj, who he considers his brother; Destrier and Kahlua and Alysanne, who have all done right by Resplendence and, therefore, earned his respect and adoration. There are others, aren't there, many others who have passed through their lives and earned a lasting place. But only Kaj has come to welcome their child, Kaj, who has always been there, for both of them. He is family, but the prince has the sudden urge to make it more official. "Kaj," he says, knowing that Resplendence won't mind, "Be a godfather to our child. If something should happen to me -" he halts abruptly, overwhelmed by the strange need for Kaj's acceptance of the role. His eyes plead with the stallion silently as Resplendence's contractions grow longer and more painful.

He is distracted by her voice, which asks what he hopes for. "A daughter, of course," he answers without pause. "I want him or her to be healthy, of course, but if I could choose - a daughter to take after her mother. Gods know we don't need a son to follow in my hoofprints," he tries a sorry attempt at a joke. "A girl would be perfect - just like her mother." He stays by her, refusing to move but allowing her space, standing with his maw gently pressed to her cheek.

After, as their daughter lies quietly on the ground and his beloved pulls herself shakily to her feet, the prince immediately wraps a wing around her to support her. He questions her decision to leap immediately to her feet, but she has been through childbirth before and obviously has the knowledge to make intelligent decisions of her own accord. "She's beautiful," he whispers in an almost worshipful tone. It is quite obvious that he is going to adore his daughter, that she will have him wrapped around her tail. "Rue," he agreed. "It's perfect." He lowers his head to greet his daughter, whose head has broken through the birthing sac. "Hello, little Rue."

Suddenly another man is in their presence, walking with a swift urgency towards the stressed mare and fretful mate at her side. She could only assume they were mates, by the tender look in both of their expressions when they saw each other, and she suddenly had her attention on the creamy pegasus who was not explaining what was happening. Eyes widening at the realization she blinked, mouth slightly opening in awe and swallowing hard, before slowly looking around, wonder what she could find to help the poor mare in the process of birthing. She didn't need to go any further for the man was instructing her to find a certain herb, one that caused her ears to flick towards him, nodding obediently. Only thing is, she couldn't fully remember where the garden was. She began to turn herself in a circle, wondering which direction to begin, when the red dragon shot off in one direction, and without thinking she followed him.

Using her own wings she soared, keeping pace with the serpentine and watching where he descended, watching him grab the Angelica and begin to return to his bonded. She was about to follow, when something else caught her eye. A certain plant caught her attention, the leaves a deep green and shaped slightly like a spearhead, rounded more near the bottom than at the top. Borage was the word that suddenly popped into her mind; something Mother had eaten when she had been nursing Myrrine when she was still a newborn. Mother had explained it helped with milk flow, and Mother always had plenty of it because of the stuff. Perhaps Resplendence would need some too. Without another thought she plucked a few of the stems, holding the foliage firmly yet gently as she took off in the direction the dragon had gone.

Before she knew it she was back on the scene, landing down at the as the climax of the entire event was occurring. Her eyes widened as she watched the foal make its way into the world, face heating up as she wondered if it was polite of her to watch. Shouldn't she be looking away, not looking at the woman's um... places. She looked away abruptly, eyes looking anywhere but her before she deemed that she had... concluded. At this time she politely stepped forward, dipping her head politely and dropping the leaves before the mare who seemed so eager to stand. She had already named the filly: Rue. How beautiful a name it was.

" That's a beautiful name Miss Resplendence," she began in a hushed tone, not wanting to raise it in case she startled the newborn, gentle eyes only on the lady as she continued," If I may suggest you eat these, these Borage leaves will help encourage milk production. Mother always ate it when she had begun nursing me." That polite and genuine smile graced her ebony velveteen, eyes searching to her, and then the proud-looking father who she believed they were calling Quilyan. She dipped her head to him, congratulating him on his newest member, before finally turning to the other male. Upon realizing what his name actually was her eyes widened, and she bowed briefly, slightly panicked that she hadn't done so earlier. Despite Queen Kahlua insisting she didn't need to bow, she didn't know how the other royalties felt, and so she would make sure she had the utmost respect around them until given permission otherwise about it.

" Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier your Highness. My name is Myrrine, it's an honor to make your acquaintance. If you would like me to leave please do tell me and I will assure that the new parents shall have their alone time." She was so embarrassed, how could she have been so rude! Acting so casually around him and them, not even realizing that they might not have wanted her present. Though she cherished the moment of experiencing the miracle of birth, it didn't mean they would simply let her join because she was offering help. Perhaps Miss Resplendence and Quilyan were rather important, and this was supposed to be a special, private affair between higher ranks. If so then she was surprised they hadn't reprimanded her sooner! If they would though she wouldn't defy them, she would accept any punishment they offered for being so inconsiderate of their situations and desires. She was a stupid girl... stupid stupid stupid!

KAJ
everyone thinks we're perfect, please don't let them look through the curtains

Children are eager, even the calm youth that stands askance the birthing area, her odd wings aflutter and nigh dancing with her desire to help. When Kaj addresses her, she skitters away after Valiance with nary a word, and the King heaved a colossal sigh of relief that she had done so in such an orderly fashion. He'd attended many births, but they never failed to hasten the beating of his heart or bring a drop of sweat to his brow. With Myrrine fetching the Angelica, he dropped gracelessly beside Resplendence, for she'd seen almost every side of him and would never deign to judge him for his worry. Her teeth clasped onto his wing gently, and he obeyed her silent desires with a loving smile, patient as always. Barred wings lifted and spread to shield her, both in an act of affection and one of privacy, sure that Myrrine would return. Kaj had no doubts that Quilyan, too, likely desired a birth with far more solitude than was fairly given to them. Still, a portion of the king was fiercely stubborn, he never would have abandoned Resplendence's side, not like the patched prince had he bitterly ruminated.

Shaking away the oddly hateful thoughts, he turned ear to the soft words uttered by the brindled Doctor, and Kaj laughed a little wetly. "Would it be embarrassing for us both if I admitted that I asked Alysanne to renew our old lessons, knowing this day was near?" Kaj loved Resplendence unconditionally, likely had since she'd sought shelter so long ago beneath the canopy of his feathers, and he had been feverishly prepping for the foal's birth ever since he'd noticed the tell-tale swelling of her sides. And her chiming voice heralded a hope, one echoed by Quilyan, and Kaj's heart squeezed. For a moment he felt unfairly abandoned, sitting broken and hollowed on the sidelines as those around him settled down, formed families, found joy and purpose in their lives. And what was he left with?

As if sensing his despair, Quilyan spoke, his voice tremulous but certain. Shocked blues lifted to stare senselessly at the stag he called brother, even after his absence, even after his arrival back in the Edge with not a word to the King in passing. So Kaj choked on his own answer, eyes moist and throat thick with emotion, with gratitude. "It would be my honor," he assured, reaching for Quilyan over Resplendence, seeking his touch. All could be forgiven. There were no grudges to be held, no sour feelings to curdle in their lack of communication. Forgiveness had always been an easy thing for the King, and bridging the gap he hoped to offer it once more in that precious moment.

The event is over, just as Myrrine returned with Valiance overhead, herbs clutched in talons and teeth alike. A grateful smile spread across his face, wing retracting to allow Resplendence free movement to stand. Though the instinct to coddle and support was there, he shoved it away, knowing it was not his place but rather Quilyan's. "Thank you, child," he spoke earnestly as he swayed to his hooves, turning to hear the naming of the tiny thing still blinking on the ground, overwhelmed and as precious as any other. Kaj nearly swallowed his heart, enchanted to see her tiny face peering up from the earth. To know that she was his, in some way, that he had the right to care for her. It filled the loss inside his heart, even as it ached to remind him of Aniela's birth.

"Rue," he whispered, already knowing she'd have him wrapped around her tiny hoof from that moment forth. He allows them their moment, the new parents, and turns to find Myrrine bowing almost anxiously before him. An easy smile spread on golden lips, eyes fond as they regarded the peppered fae with amusement.

"Be calm, young Myrrine. You've done nothing wrong. I cannot thank you enough for your help, you are a level-headed young mare, you should be very proud of yourself." Pale eyes sought to pin her own, to press upon her this vital truth and show her how much he appreciated her efforts. Kaj did not want her to mistake him for a strict or unforgiving king, for he was perhaps the kindest next to Kahlua out of the triumvirate in power. "Births are quite an experience, are they not?" eyes twinkled fondly, using the question as an opening to his response, sliding easily into his acceptance of her and hoping to set her at ease in her skin. "I doubt they will mind much if you remain, so long as you are quiet and respectful. I certainly will not chase you away," Kaj clarified, eyes shining with a regal sort of amusement, wings clutched easily close as he shifted his mountainous shoulders. At least she helped distract him, gave him a reason to offer further privacy and time to themselves for the mated pair nearby. Otherwise he'd likely be desperate to nuzzle the new babe, too.

resplendence ,
hold me now and leave me never

Kaj takes his place next to Resplendence, heeding her silent plea of his touch and care. His wing spread over her, a blanket of protection as she pressed her haed against her mate's flesh. Quilyan says that the child will have no reason to be afraid, that it already has so many that would love the foal regardless. Resplendence said that she was proud of Kaj, for remembering the herbs and he could only laugh. "No, it means you care." she says, reaching out to press her maw against his chest in order to remind him that she would be there for him in turn.

Though, during the hours that they lay there (Myrinne and Valiance looking for herbs, Quilyan and Kaj standing watch over the pregnant mare), Quilyan turned to Kaj and asked for him to be the godfather of the child. Kaj accepts, saying that it would be an honour. "Kaj, it's our honour - to have someone like you in our lives," she says in return, happiness curling around the few tones of pain from he contractions that were wracking her body.

This young filly was definitely already being pampered. You see, not only was Valiance peeling off the birthing sac, but she was stretching out as if she were sunbathing. Rue moves her head toward Valiance, who in turns gives a few clicks of discontent and then flutters back to Res' side.

Alas, Resplendence collapsed into Quilyan's weight, running through all of the thoughts in her head and trying to push them out of her mind. Quilyan said that he like the name of Rue, that it was perfect and that their child was beautiful. She knows that she shouldn't stay upon the ground for long - that it isn't safe for mother and child (at least when out in the wilds - here she was definitely safe), and it would help urge the child onto its feet as well.

Kaj spoke to the other young filly, though - telling her that it was fine so long as she was quiet and respectful. It was amusing, to Res, that a young one could remember the names of the herbs her mother was given to assist in milk production. You see, she had never heard of these 'borage' leaves. She glances to each of them, Kaj and Quil, before carefully snagging a few of them and beginning to munch on them. Valiance takes to the sky, Rue having been cleaned off when he had left her side, and then tries to rest upon Kaj's back - a sign of support, happiness, and love for the stag who was most definitely ingrained as a part of their family now.

Res carefully peers towards Myrinne - having gathered some from the foal and Kaj's conversation, and from Valiance letting her know through the bond. "You are fine, young one. How old are you? What interests you the most?" There was a bit of intrigue in her voice as she looked at the filly, watched her movements, before she carefully started to edge back toward Rue and started to urge her to stand. Gentle pushes of her maw against her baby's back to try and roll her onto her limbs. "Let's try to stand, my love." she whispers encouragingly. Yes, it would take some time for the foal to clamber to her feet, but she would manag soon enough.

Oh, but Res was so glad that most of her family was actually present.

The filly raised her head as the red thing flew away, ears pricking forward before she flopped her head back down, letting out a huff. Voices filled the air, but she paid them little mind; not like they would make sense anyway. No, the golden child was focused upon a strange red dot thing that was crawling up a blade of grass.

So engrossed was she that she missed the first nudge from her dam, and only lifted her head back up at the second. She pinned her ears back, annoyance flashing through her with the startling sharpness of infancy, turning the buds scattered through her mane and tail a bright orange before they settled back to grey, the emotion gone as quick as it came. She felt another nudge, and this time it rolled her onto her stomach.

Startled and a little bit irked, the filly slapped a hoof on the ground... then paused and blinked. She did it again, then flicked an ear towards her dam, blue eyes drawn upward. Words were coming from her mother, her rosy lips making odd movements. Rue mimicked these movements, though no sound escaped her.

However something did happen. There was a sort of...well surge of something, and everything screamed for her to get up. Her limbs splayed out, and every attempt at getting up was foiled by her own clumsiness.

Buds a deep red in anger, she tossed her head with a snort, ears back before she tried again, letting out a downright-pissed squeal before, suddenly, she was standing, swaying on wobbly legs that threatened to collapse at the faintest touch. Red turned to brilliant white in pride, and she flashed a gummy grin up at her dam, eyes wide and bright.

See? She was just like Mamma!

Another sense had Rue stumbling towards her mother, neck stretching out, seeking for the source that would give her strength, give her life. She found it quickly, and her tail was a blur against her cheeks as she suckled, happy little grunts escaping her.
