The cool water lapped at the edges of the brook, on such a hot day it was a welcomed retreat from the blazing stare of the sun. The branches of the trees offered shelter from wondering eyes, it was calm and quiet here. In the shallows of the water bathed the strangest creature, yet her beauty was unquestionable.

Her tiny body was covered in a russet gold fur, bright purple eyes stared out at the world, blazing with intelligence. Standing upon four legs, body similar to that of a lynx, the creature flicked her two tails. After a moment she approached the structure, and moved to stand in the centre. The dazzling colours from the glass stained roof danced along her back, painting her in a stunning display of greens, purples, blues and pinks.

Curling up into a small ball the creature began to hum softly and happily. It was the hymn of a love story, one so beautiful yet broken. It’s ending could be considered happy she supposed but that was a tale for a different time. Once the song ended the Lynx simply began to softly purr, her eyes trained upon the entrance of the structure. Today should be that day that she would come.

So the Lynx waited, tails twitching from time to time.

You see, she wanted to explore. Pregnant as she was, she wanted to explore. Sure, Quilyan might frown down upon her for this, but she still wanted to. She had taken it slow, very slow, considering how each step was more of a waddle then her usual graceful strides. But, she had also learned how to pace herself, and with Valiance watching above, she moved carefully along different paths to avoid having to deal with others. The glitter that radiated off of her coat now, pooled around her feet, leaving a small trail that would be blown away quickly where she went.

Even with the heat, though, she was completely at ease. There was sweat, yes, but the glitter was also glowing the radiant light pink of her coat and Valiance's markings. It was only when she finally made it toward the Rotunda that Valiance swooped back down and tugged on her hair a little to urge her back toward the brook's edge. "Drink," he commanded, and so she listened. Her frame waddled carefully toward the brook's edge, stepping in a little bit and allowing the water to lap at her pasterns while she took in all the water that she possibly could. Then, while she replenished herself, Valiance began to search to area around - drawn to the sound of a song. He swooped down, calling to Resplendence through the bond, before landing just outside the structure. And then, Resplendence made her way over.

At the time of her arrival the song had ended and there was only a light, soft purr radiating from the lynx-like creature covered in gold. Gold eyes met those of the purple ones, creature curled up in a ball with her tails twitching. "Gorgeous," Valiance purred, clicking a few times in joy as he took in the site of the animal. He puffed out his chest - an attempt to show off, no doubt - only to hear a snort from Res and stop, moving back toward his bonded's side and wrapping his long tail around her right forelimb (and now standing in the pool of maroon glitter).

Alas, all Res could do was agree with Valiance, and from her position a few yards away she whispered in awe, "Gorgeous…"

But, just what was it doing out here? And why had it let someone stumble across it so easily?

When the dragon appears a smile dances upon her lips, she can see the bond weaved around their souls, connecting them. As her song dies and she beings to purr, finally she can see the one who she seeks. From her place upon the ground she watches as the dragon settles with the beautiful mare, impressed by their closeness and the brightness of their bond. Uncurling herself the creature stood and offered a sweet smile before moving closer towards the one she had been waiting for.

"Resplendence," her voice is deep with a hint of a growl, yet there is a mystical sense in her voice. The magic is woven into her voice and the purple in her eyes sparkle as she speaks. Ears swivel, searching for any other sounds, always alert. The lynx was not a fan of the masses, she preferred to stay invisible unless meeting with those whom she had business with. But no, there is nothing and no one. Not quite, anyway. Her massive eyes continue to peer curiously at the gorgeous mare who is much larger than herself. The circumstances of their meeting was rather strange; magic had entertained their destinies together, even if the mare did not know it yet.

After a moment she turns back to look out of the structure, scanning the brook then the forest around them. It felt as if fate itself was watching them at the moment. After watching history being written, the lynx felt as if she had a right to judge who was worthy of what. And judge she had. Turning back, the creature tilts her head to the side - once again staring at Resplendence. "The tales do not do you justice it would seem." She breathes faintly and contemplatively. Stopping to think, the lynx closing her eyes against the brightness of the world.

"I have been waiting for you." Still with her eyes closed the creature's voice is calm and quiet and she begins speaking. She is small and not even slightly intimidating, yet today she is serving fate and so speaks with confidence. Opening her eyes and turning them upon the mare, she pauses before beginning their journey together. "How do feel about love and life?" Such a simple question, yet it was a personal one. Hopefully it would not scare away the mare, the lynx wanted her to open up and expose her soul.

The lynx moved easily, uncurling herself as Valiance curled around Resplendence in a form of support. Though, before the mare even had a chance to offer her name, the deep voice of the golden lynx spoke Resplendence's name. It hung in the air, causing Res to shuffle back a step, ear falling to the side in confusion. Glitter was pooled around her feet now, though it didn't carry the dim glow that only emerged when she was comfortable. After all, something had to be off… Creatures like this didn't just speak, and they most definitely did not know names.

Silence is what takes the air, holding Resplendence and Valiance in place and choking the questions she wanted to spill. No, she didn't quite have the courage yet to ask all of them. Then, the lynx tilting her head back to the side, saying that the tails did not do Resplendence justice. She goes to speak, but when she can the lynx speaks once more, saying that he had been waiting for Res.

Resplendence stumbles over words, now able to actually form sounds. "What… How did you? My name? What tales?" She whispers, broken, awkward questions spilling from her mouth as Valiance sends calming vibes through their bond. And then, she is asked about how she feels of love and life. Res shudders a little, body trembling for a few moments as she blinks in confusion at the creature before her. She swallows, taking in a deep breath. "I-I don't even k-know your name… yet you know mine…" a break as she glances around - trying to figure out if this creature was bonded to someone else that knew her. "And you're asking about love and life?"

She's confused, very confused. "Just answer - don't look like bond. Find no scare," Valiance insists and so Res finally allows her mind to begin reeling over the question. Had she been asked this but two seasons prior, she would have answered that love was not something she was capable of receiving outside of Valiance's bond. Had it been two seasons prior she would have said that the only reason she was still alive was to keep Valiance from suffering more pain. Had it been two seasons prior she would have said that she wasn't sure she could still feel love, or feel alive. But now? Now it was different…

Another swallow, ear flickering back and forth as she watched this golden lynx. Perhaps it was a bit too long of silence, but finally she attempted to string some words together. "Love… it should be unconditional… It should come with trust, a-and everyone d-deserves it, from someone." A pause, as she nods (as if she needed to confirm what she said to herself; to confirm she was strong enough to continue). She builds strength. "Life is precious. It-it's something too easily taken… too easily broken. Life should be fought for, by everyone. It should not end violently, but peacefully. Every l-life should be h-honoured…." Her voice breaks, mind instantly racing toward her lost twins, toward Rowan's death, toward those missing in the darkness. "Life with love… it's a gift, and a goal to strive for… it… it forms a purpose, for everyone…"

Then, she flickers her tail as Valiance offers a few clicks of encouragement. "W-why?" Why does all of this matter? Why do this lynx know Resplendence? Why can this lynx talk? Just… why?

The light sound of laughter falls from the Lynx's mouth- a gentle sound that seems to float with the breeze. "Indeed, this must be strange for you." Perhaps she should not have been so abrupt, a gentler approach may have been more favourable. Yet there was so much to do! Time ought not to be wasted, surely the mare would understand this. The creature’s gaze shows her placid nature, there is no judgement or worry, just a tranquil smile upon the creature’s lips. "My friends whisper to me, they tell me of your service to your herd." A tilt of her small head. "Your kind nature." The mare shuddered a little, and a few startled blinks causes another laugh to fall from the creature’s lips. Delightful, the reactions of mortals were always a source of amusement. It reminded her just how precious life truly was. "I go by many names." A thoughtful tone hinders her normally amicable voice. "I like the name Cairde, you may call me this." This was the name her mother had blessed her with, it remained close to her heart and perhaps it always would. Time had unsuccessfully lessened her love for this name.

Confusion crosses the beautiful creature’s face as Resplendence seems to worry, a break comes to their conversation as the stunning mare glances around. "Well of course." Cairde good heartily teases Resplendence. "Love is the foundation of life and what is anything without life itself?" The creature hums a single note, it is highpiched yet lovely. Magic laces the very strands of Cairde's voice, causing the note to echo. Then another. This note is deeper than the previous, yet they form a simple and quick melody as they softly echo around the structure. At different times the lynx adds another note until a complete and beautiful harmony is sounding around the structure. Eventually the notes fade into the wind. "One can not exist without the other…or the other elements of life."

Waiting for the mare to gather her thoughts, Cairde simply watches both Resplendence and Valiance. Another swallow from he mare, the lynx smirks as her pale ear flickers back and forth- they watched each other. Silence had settles between them, but the creature was okay with this, comfortable and content to wait for the gorgeous mare.
Unconditional, trusting, deserving. So far the creature likes what she is hearing and agrees. Resplendence nods and then her voice builds strength, Cairde smiles her encouragement. Listening to the words the creature closes her eyes, the memories stimulating these words must be beautiful, bright and vibrant. They are also dark, hollow and empty. Sensing the sadness and pain within Resplendence's memories Cairde's smile stiffens slightly. The pain of the past never really faded for some, it suffocated them, drowning them underneath the pressing pain that is life. "Life's experiences change us all, the pain can be good. The pain can be too much for the rest." Respectfully the lynx bows her head, a somber expression painting her face as she opened her eyes and looks upon the one fate had summoned here. "You are strong. You have survived and thrived."

Cairde starts and wonders past Resplendence, her eyes now trained upon nature around them. "You're asking the wrong questions again." Why. That question wastes so much time. A ladybug crawls along a leaf, the creature watches it, waiting until it flys off before she turns to look upon the mare again. Picking a new tune, the lynx beings to hum softly, willing Resplendence closer. Part of her wondered if the mare understood what was truly happening here, perhaps she would leave thinking it had just been luck but it was so much more than that. Turning back to nature, Cairde bent closer to the leaf she had been examining, her eyes running along the branch that connected it to the tree. As she hummed the notes seemed to brand themselves into the tree, lighting up the bark in a bright gold display of the creature's magic. "Come." She waited for the mare to join her at the tree.

Some of her questions were answered. At least she was given a name of this mysterious lynx-creature. Cairde, it was a beautiful name. She said that she had heard of Resplendence by friends? Friends who had spoken of her service and kind nature. One would suppose that such tails would be good to be woven, though it was definitely a surprise to the pink mare. She had done all she could to devote herself to the Edge, to show care and kindness for each of its members, but she had never been sure that anyone had actually noticed all that she had done. Alas, the question of life and love was asked and Resplendence finally scrounged up the nerve to respond and ask why.

A teasing tone came from the lynx's mouth as she spoke of the foundation of life and the existence before casting different notes around the structure and creating an intricate harmony. Res finally managed to string out words of devotion, of deserving, of it always, and answering the question. Soon, though, Cairde spoke of the pain that seemed to always lurk around Resplendence regardless of what she did to break it. But, the lynx said that she was strong and there was a small nod of the mare's head. "T-thank you, Cairde," she says before Cairde moves past her and out into the nature, saying that Res was asking the wrong questions once more. Carefully, Res turns upon her haunches to watch where the lynx went - Valiance bounding after Cairde as Res lingered behind at the Rotunda.

"Then, what questions should I be asking?" she inquires, voice a quiet whisper as the creature asks for her to come. Golden eyes linger upon the gold that shoots up the tree, lighting up the bark in time with Cairde's humming. Then, after a few moments, Res also moves forward. Her steps are slow, and her body seems to waddle with each movement. It is not taxing, yet, but she knows that the walk back toward the Edge definitely will end up taking a few days at the least.

She lines up with Valiance as he stalks in a few steps closer to the lynx, still watching her in admiration. "No stress. Baby good. Cairde nice. Caidre sweet." Valiance insists, wrapping his tail around Resplendence's limb in the process to continue to offer her emotional support.

What questions should she be asking? Yet another useless question that was a waste of everyone’s time! Could she not see?! Perhaps she had not been clear enough with her questions about love and life before. Everything was affected by emotion, the way mortals experienced things, how they felt changed the entire nature of encounters. Both could be changed by someone who had the ability to influence the others. The mare finally comes closer to see what is happening, Cairde smiles at her look of awe while watching the golden marks upon the tree.

Tilting her head the lynx waits for the show to begin, without a doubt this was her favourite moment; glancing between Resplendence and the tree it is clear that the creature is expecting something spectacular to happen. The closer Resplendence moves the brighter the gold becomes, it’s as if the notes shine brighter with excitement. As the mare comes to a stop Cairde smiles and takes more than a few steps back, the golden marks spark and spit out flakes as it peels itself away from the tree. Watching as the gold floats through the air towards Resplendence, the lynx giggles once. The gold begins to surround the lightly shaded mare, spinning around her and picking up speed with every passing second. As it spins each marking blends into another until they become a smooth golden surface. It isn’t long before the mare is fully encased in a spinning gold orb; the magic coming from the orb is beautiful. It is bright and with Resplendence fully concealed within the orb Cairde smiles and closes her eyes listening to the music as it floats through the air. The sounds flow through the woods calling to every passing animal, waking them from slumbers and causing them to pause in their routine. After about thirty seconds Cairde opens her eyes to watch the last bit of the transformation. The orb expands and holds it’s new size for only a moment until it snaps. An almighty CRACK echoes throughout the woods cutting out the music completely while the golden orb has disappeared into Resplendence, binding to her soul.

Laughing at the show of magic the lynx stands and offers Resplendence one last friendly smile, delighted by what she had just seen. That had been the brightest binding yet. Yes, she had chosen well. “There is only one question you should be asking.” Her voice is soft and patient. “How can I be better?” Nodding at mare and dragon alike it is only a moment before she speaks again. "Use my gift well child." With that the creature turns and begins to walk back into the woods. Every step the lynx takes she grows bigger, yet her entire body fades. Eventually she becomes one with the woods, there is no trace of her expect for the faintest of songs still lingering in the air.

Congratulations! Resplendence has won the magic ability:
:: [Magic: LightxDark | Able to create false emotions when she hums]
:: [Restrictions | Emotions that are contrary to the character trait of the character are harder to create. Lasts 20 seconds in battle.]

Resplendence
it's what you feel but can't articulate outloud

The gold. It grew brighter, stronger, with each step that Resplendence took toward it. It was strange, but she tried to focus on Cairde and not the fact that the gold was beginning to peel itself off of the tree. Stunned into silence, her gold orbs soon were forced to focus on the gold as it started to spin around her frame.

Panic. Nothing but panic flooded her veins. My child! she almost screamed, but her voice was caught in her throat - trapped beneath the anxiety as her eyes widened in uncertainty and fear. And then the gold begins to pick up speed. Faster and faster, trapping her in an orb spinning of gold. Her breath catches in her chest and it is all that she can do to keep from crying, thinking that she might die. That she might not get to tell Quilyan goodbye, that she was sorry.

But the music sinks into her soul, it offers some kind of edge of calmness through her panicked haze as the orb expands before SNAPPING and letting out a crack that caused Resplendence to jump and her ear to hide behind her snowy locks. The gold seemed to seep into her, disappearing just as the music had - though she could feel it now.

The lynx laughs as Res tries to gather her ground once more, breath finally falling from her lungs again. There is a smile upon the lynx's face as she said the only question was how she could do better. There was a nod from the creature before she tells Resplendence to use the gift well. Dumbfounded, Resplendence can only stare as the creature starts to walk off (growing larger in the process) before the lynx also fades.

It is only when there is barely a trace of the songs left in the air that Res can even form words. "Thank you, Cairde…. I will do my best," she whispers - voice melding into the air with the songs before it all fades away.

And with that, Resplendence turns to head back towards the Edge - mind slowly piecing together the gift that she was given.
