'I've stumbled upon a jewel!' the skinny mare thought with delight as
warmth enveloped here like a blanket - soft like velveteen as it
pulled tantalizingly at her subconscious. Slip into me, it pleaded
her, but she couldn't. There was a certain haunting merriment on her
angular face as she carried on deeper into the unknown terrain. Her
luminescent rosy eyes seemed to glow with the fever of delight as she
breathed in the pungent aroma of sulphur. The rock way beneath her
groaned in a manner of agony as the lava brushed its' surfaces again
and again. It dragged a little more of it with it each visit. It
captivated her as she watched the strong stature of the rock melt away
by its' gentle touch.

For a moment the lithe mare could only stare below her as she walked.
A flicker of light, a shining beacon ahead of her, was enough for her
to reluctantly peel her attention away from the lava to sit
attentively on three proud monuments. Were there unicorns of royal
blood here? What did this mean? Ever-so-curiously she crept forward
with her instincts on high alert. Closer, and closer she tip-toed
until she could gently brush her muzzle across one of the shrines.
"Nothing?" A sigh hissed from her lips as Umbra seemed rather puzzled
by the lack of reaction by the monument. She felt foolish. Just
because the place felt ethereal, divine even, didn't mean there was
anything special about it.

Warmth suddenly surrounded the shrine that Umbra scoffed at, as though
they were not impressive. A glowing light encapsulated the area for a
few, blinding moments. When pupils adjusted, a golden body stepped out
from the light, and the world returned to normal. Surrounding this
lithe figure, however, was an aura of warm glow, but the liquid eyes
which peered out at the dark mare were cold.

"Foolish," he says, his voice a hiss at her that matched her
disappointed voice. "There is nothing here for disrespectful rats like
you." The dark maiden with purple eyes, much like his sibling. She was
probably as cunning and tricksy too, which made a growl seem to grow
in his throat as he stared at her. An angry tension in his features as
the God stared downward at those purple eyes. Then, just as suddenly
as he had appeared, his anger evaporated.

Was she really worth it? Perhaps this dark gal was not sent to him by
his sister. Perhaps he could turn this charcoal beauty against the
night she so mimicked. A gentle smile pulled over soft, warm lips.
"But you did not know any better, Umbra of the World's Edge." His two
spiraled horns gleamed in his self-made sunlight, black pupils
dilating slightly as he looked at her more closely. The hum of magic
did not fall from her frame, so she was not yet tainted, though she
lived in the land of his sister.

"What have you come for, daughter?"
