It wasn’t so much little by little that the guilt had been weighing on her, more of a constant source since she had made the decision. It had felt so easy, so seamless, that transition - obviously she would do whatever it took to make her friend happy. Had it been right and would he actually be happy? Did he believe her when they nestled up together and she whispered that she loved him too?

Because she did. That was the reason why she had done all this, why she had given him a family, because she loved her dear friend, her oldest friend.

There was a twist in her stomach every time she looked at their daughter, remembering the lies that had given birth to such a beautiful baby girl. Naerys was perfect. She had wanted to be a mother again for so long - and now she had both of her children here with her. Things were finally smoothed over with Arty, would he hate her again if he knew?

It felt like each day that passed, the idea of sharing this burden with someone was more tempting. Could she find someone to help soothe her worries, that could help her figure out whether she had made a good or bad decision? Was that selfish of her? Self-conceited, seeking the approval of someone else to justify her actions.

Hemlock tried to console her however he could, sticking close to her now and only leaving to hunt when he absolutely had to - usually when she was with her family or someone that he trusted. Even Miykael could be counted on for that - he would never let anything happen to her - but the thoughts she had while she thought Naerys had died had alarmed him. Thoughts of taking her own life, thoughts of dying along with her child, they had not left the little owl’s mind.

The pair - Alysanne with Hemlock perched on her head keeping an eye out - were wandering around the Edge. She wanted to go stand on the cliffs, to feel the breeze of the ocean cool her hot skin, but Hemlock wouldn't hear of it. So they stuck to the shade of the pines, the soft sunlight of the early morning dappling the grass with spots of gold whenever the branches did not block it out.

She wasn't entirely sure she knew what she was looking for - a distraction maybe? It would be good to come across someone, a friend. She never seemed to lack the desire to be with her friends lately.

Morning had always been Evangeline's favorite time of day. It was still cool from the night, the birds were just beginning to awaken and fill the air with song, deer and squirrels among other animals foraged. It was something out of a fairytale and made the world seem so much more peaceful than it really was. In the early morning she could lose herself for a while and feel like the world wasn't as bad as it really was. But as the day wore on and the sun grew hotter, when the birds retreated into their nests to rest and shield themselves from the sun, everything began to seem more hostile and less innocent. She wished that the feelings the mornings brought could last forever, that she could keep her rose colored glasses on for the rest of her life and not think about what was hiding in the dark, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Tallis stirred on her back, making the mare turn her head to look at the orange dragon as he lifted his head and yawned. "Sleepy head." She teased lightheartedly, a smile on her lips. Tallis yawned again then lifted his body and stretched, careful not to prick Evangeline with his sharp claws. "Did you sleep well?" 'Yes.' Tallis answered. 'Very well. Eva comfy.' As he spoke he moved from her back to her neck where he draped himself with his head resting between her ears. It was his favorite position, but in light of recent events he had taken to flying and scouting the areas ahead of Evangeline to keep her out of harm's way.

The pair moved in silence, Eva occasionally stopping to graze a bit and Tallis clinging to her so he wouldn't fall on the ground. It continued until she lifted her head and spotted movement among the trees not too far away. Her ears pricked and her head tilted slightly. "Hello?" Tallis disapproved of Evangeline calling out to anyone without knowing who it was, but the black and white coat made her think immediately of Kahlua and it had been some time since she'd seen the queen. 'Silly queen.' Tallis corrected.

The pair were moving along quietly when a voice called out with a tentative greeting. Grasping at the chance for company, Alysanne’s mood instantly warmed up. Hemlock rustled his feathers apprehensively, unsure about who this mysterious voice belonged to. Was there a dragon involved? Would it be someone to upset Aly? But she ignored his apprehension - she didn’t care. Company was company and any distraction was certainly welcome. “Hi there!” Her voice was bright and enthusiastic, overcompensating for the turmoil in her heart. It just wouldn’t do to have anyone catch on that something was wrong, that she wasn’t her usually, blissful self. She could spy a chestnut coat through the trees but it wasn’t until she rounded a couple more that she spied exactly who it was. “Evangeline!”

Quickly, the painted pegasus moved closer and stopped before the chestnut mare. They didn’t know each other well, these two - which was a shame. They had been living together in the same herd for two years now and really the only time Alysanne could think of where they had been in the same vicinity had been at herd meetings. Maybe today would be their chance to forge a new friendship? Alysanne’s manner was warm, a little too warm. She was trying to be calm to focus only on this chance encounter, the anticipation of getting to know the pretty mare before her a little better should be enough of a distraction.

She knew she was thinking too much about everything, she was letting a simple decision get clouded by worry, and a vacation from those thoughts was most welcome.

Hemlock, eyeing the head of the dragon that was resting on Evangeline, shifted in his spot between his own bonded’s ears. Why did everyone have to have a dragon?

“It’s good to see you again, how have you been?”

It was mildly disappointing that the black and white coat that Evangeline had spotted through the trees did not belong to Kahlua. The mare, instead, was one that she did not know nearly as well as she did the queen. Alysanne, she knew from herd meetings, but other than that the mare was a mystery to the Emissary. She seemed nice enough from what she had seen in the meetings and the way she greeted Eva was friendly and warm enough. 'Too friendly.' Tallis scoffed through their mental bond. "Hush." She scolded the dragon. 'Its true. Too friendly is suspicious.' "Hush." Evangeline scolded again, her tail flicking with mild irritation because of the reptile and his refusal to trust anyone.

"Its good to see you again, how have you been?"

"Yes, its good to see you again, too. I've been ..." She paused, thinking back to the arguments with Thor because of her stubbornness and refusal to trust him, the tears that he'd ripped from her, and the healing that had begun and she sighed softly. "Well. I've been well." She smiled and she could feel Tallis' smugness because in his mind he was the one that had pushed her and Thor together and while he had played a big role in it Eva would not admit it. His ego would grow so large that he would no longer fit in the Edge.

"And you? How have you been?" She posed the same question to the mare. "I think this is the first time we've actually spoken outside of a herd meeting." There were quite a few that Evangeline could think of that she knew from meetings but not from actual conversations. "How is Resplendence? ...and her herb garden?" She sought out common ground for them to do some sort of bonding over and Resplendence seemed the logical choice since they both knew the strawberry mare.
