When the cloaked mare had turned to head south, Meh had almost been tempted to force her to find her own way. She wasn’t entirely sure she liked the mares commanding attitude, but sighed, remembering that she must have made an even worse first impression with her own aggression all those years ago. “I’ll take you, then, it’s a fair way south from here.” She had said, feet shoving her body forward to catch up with her new acquaintance. “You’d better tell me your own name, then. We’ve quite a walk ahead of us.”

It was a long way to the Throat from the threshold, and even longer on foot. As hours passed, the impatient warrior grew weary of being bound to the earth. At several points she had left her new acquaintance for brief period to take to the air and scout ahead from above the trees. The short excursions had served to keep her patience in check and little Gwaihir entertained. Every time they had returned to rejoin the walk the chick had chirped insistently at his bonded, wanting her to approach the other mare so he could investigate, but Megaera hadn’t indulged this. Eurybe, didn’t seem like to sort to tolerate a curious youngster and the protective Meg was not about to let any harsh hoof or word touch her little friend. It had been easy for her to distract him though, a quick pause to snatch up a twig or a leaf or flower from this new terrain and place it next to him had kept his curiosity sated.

When they reached the grasslands of the Heart, Meg breathed a sigh of relief to be out of the trees and in no time at all they had come to the break in the land, ocean churning in front of them. “We’ll have to wait for someone to let you across. You’ll be given your own key if you choose to stay.” She said it in her normal jovial manner, quite enjoying not explaining about the Sun God’s bridge right away. “I’ll call, you may want to close your eyes for a moment….” The bay sent a warning to Gwaihir as well, who immediately tucked his head under his own stubby wing to shield his eyes. A moment later, Megaera was alight, a bright beam of sunlight engulfing her and shooting into the sky. The beacon lasted several seconds before receding back into the mare, leaving a sheen of sweat across her back and a tired heft to her breathing.

"Talk talk talk talk."

Note: Liquid timing this one a bit to continue from ash & dust. This is before the rescue/adoption of Mordecai.
