"Where brilliance is good and madness is better..."
Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

Laughter flooded the air around her, and Lakota turned her head over her shoulder as if in a daze. It reminded her of a foal, its intrinsic innocence, and with her mind on babies she swore she could almost imagine it was her own child whose laughter pervaded the air. All she found was a flurry of feathers, descending in droves, kissing her flanks with their tiny filaments. A remnant of what they'd experienced together. The Poisoner gazed down at the bundle on the earth at her hooves, a pillow of feathers, and decidedly did not mourn them. A tiny smile creased her pretty face. Ktulu's words still rang harmoniously in her head, a love that transcended form and conquered future. There was no reason to mourn them.
Turning, she laughed aloud. Muzzle lifted to the taller mare, soft and pink and velvet. Searching for a kiss of celebration in her exaltation. They had finished, they were strong and sure and together. Lakota could handle the rest, no matter what the Earth God threw at her. "We did it!" she cried happily, dancing in her spot as she found herself with a loss of breath that was both sudden and expected in her delirious excitement. Heaving in a breath to calm herself and not embarrass herself even more than normal. She'd already revealed too much of her inner, softer side. Ktulu often brought that out of her, sadly enough as she felt at times, but there was still a long journey to the Veins in their future.
"Let's go get our baby," she whispered, eyes alight with violet fire. Turning, she led the way away from the clearing; the scarred-up tree, the pond, the feather piles. Their history laid out in random things that nobody else would care to wonder about. They'd never know what had occurred, how important it all had been in the lives of another.
Lakota would know.
Days slipped by on the travels, the bears returned to their faithful stead, no longer in danger of a quest neither Ktulu nor Lakota could have prepared for or foreseen. There was no need for loneliness with her mate at her side, and though she was anxious to return to the Veins and therefore pushing her body farther than she normally would have, there was also no reason to not enjoy the time alone she'd finally been given with her mate. Still, the appearance of the Veins was an ecstatic moment, and she rushed to the Earth God's shrine, her past annoyance with him temporarily forgotten in her excitement for the new life just within her reach. Bowing, unable to manage a kneel with how her knees shook and hooves danced, the blue called out to the Lord in a quiet, wavering murmur.
"We have completed your task. Please hold council with us," she begged of the empty, silent shrine. Her blood was like gasoline, prepared to be lit on fire. All her dreams were finally coming true.
God of the Earth! Lakota and Ktulu have completed their quest:
In your original quest here you were told there would be 4 trials, not three ["You shall have to endure 4 trials of this kind, which will test your dedication and commitment and love."].
If Ktulu can post here you can do the fourth trial in the Veins.
Ktulu was not so lighthearted as Lakota as the pair traveled from the forest to the veins. She could not shake the feeling that they had forgotten something, but she could not remember what it was. As the days passed by and their steps brought them farther and farther from the forest and closer to the veins the feeling grew more intense. The Constrictor, however, did not mention her concerns to Lakota. She knew that the pair of them had brought nothing to the forest with them, not even their companions. She glanced down at Eytan, who had returned to her along with Aoduan to Lakota, when they had left the forest. 'You're bothered.' the bear said as he turned his caramel eyes upward. "Yes." She answered, watching Lakota and Aoduan as they moved ahead of them. "I feel we've forgotten something." She just wished that she could remember what it was that they were forgetting.
"We have completed your task. Please hold council with us."
The dark mare was silent as she waited for the Earth God to answer Lakota's call and when he didn't she frowned. There had to be a reason he wasn't answering them. "Lakota." She spoke her mate's name, moving to stand beside her. "How many tasks did we complete?" She questioned. "You were a fish and I was a hawk, that was one. Then you were a tiger and I was a fawn in the second. The third you grew wings and a horn. And the fourth..." Her voice trailed off as she was very nearly slapped in the face as she remembered what they had forgotten. "We forgot the fourth task."
How foolish could the pair of them be to forget part of their quest?
"Eytan." Ktulu turned to her companion as she spoke his name. "You and Aoduan should get to a safe distance and wait." There was no way for the two mares to know if the Earth God would be angry that they had come back early and turn them both into something ridiculously dangerous for their final task, should he even allow it. "We are ready for our final task." She ammended Lakota's previous request.
Although Ktulu would be unable to discern that any changes had been made, one had. She had been displaced from space and time - Lakota could no longer see (the real) Ktulu, and Ktulu could no longer communicate with her mate, even though nothing appeared to have changed.
From Lakota's perspective things were quite different. The veins suddenly were on fire. Lava pooled from somewhere deep in the ground, and exploded upwards smashing apart rocks and shrines. While Lakota stayed on what was now the main section, Ktulu (or at least what certainly looked like Ktulu) was pulled farther apart, set adrift on a rocky island in a sea of fire. The illusion-Ktulu appeared exactly as the real one had before, nothing about her had changed - not even as she cried out for Lakota to turn around and look!
On a rocky island similiar to the one Ktulu was standing on, but on the opposite side of Lakota, stood a small trembling child. It bore a single horn, one that started as black, faded to red and finally white. Its body was dusted with inky blue-black trails, though its legs faded to a brindled white. Tuffs of hair which began in the opposite colours of its horn protruded from its neck and tail. Wide violet eyes focused on Lakota in horror, as the river of lava began to pull the child away.
"MOOOOTTHHEERRRRRR" It screamed, its cries directed at Lakota.
Ktulu was drifting off in one direction, the child in another.
A soft groan of disbelief and embarrassment left the mare's lips as Ktulu spoke. The God had given them four tasks, hadn't he? She felt embarrassed by her own eagerness, her excitement, but she turned and shrugged lightly with a half-hearted smile nonetheless. "Well, now he can just appear right here after we're finished," she stated simply, breezing past their shared mistake. There could be time wasted on ruminating on their mistake, their failure and her own childish excitement, or they could simply move on and tackle the next trial fresh-faced and prepared. Or at least, Lakota hoped so. She turned and watched their bears wander off together, casting a quiet farewell across the bond she held with her beloved. Her heart quaked with arising nerves, but she settled them with a breath that reached into the depths and limits of her lungs. Turning, she sought Ktulu's eyes. A small smile creased her lips, falling into those familiar bloody depths, the kaleidoscopic fissures that Lakota could never hope to memorize. She swore to try, in all her days she had left to love her mate.
The change was invisible to her, even as her eyes never glanced away from the canvas of her beloved's features. The magic was seamless, as crafted by a God it ought to be, and she was unaware of what was happening until it was there upon her. Lava exploded upwards, fountains of the magma that broke apart the rock and earth she was standing upon. Instinctively she spread her legs, searching for a steadier ground, and her head lifted to find Ktulu immediately. It was the most horrible noise she'd ever heard, the earth splitting apart before her, beneath her. The screaming sound of the volcanic substance exploding upwards, the pounding of her heart in her ears, her throat, her chest. And above it all, her beloved, screaming at her. The words made no sense at first, they were white noise in her head, clamoring for attention until her sudden panic receded enough to stop and listen. Because all she could see was the woman she loved most, adrift in a sea of lava, and she was losing her and there was so little time. But she obeyed nonetheless, and as if the Time god himself had stepped into that moment, everything around her seemed to slow as her eyes shifted, her body twisted, and her gaze fell upon the small figure behind her.
Her heart stopped abruptly in her chest.
A baby. Her baby. A dry sob caught in her throat. She had her eyes. The most perfect thing she'd ever seen in her entire life, brought to being right before her. Her and Ktulu, mixed so perfectly, staring right back at her. Except, she was scared. The newly born mother in her bared its fangs, a lion roaring inside her very soul, demanding that she destroy whatever had put that look on her child's face. Because that was her little girl, there was no mistaking it. Lakota's head whipped back to Ktulu, saw the mockery of ice floes that broke apart her world. A decision. A split second to make it.
Except she knew exactly what she'd pick.
Ktulu would never forgive her for letting their little girl go, and Lakota knew her mate well enough to know that they'd both pick their baby time and time again because the other would surely sacrifice themselves to make that decision possible. This was what they had come for, and Lakota would not make it all for naught. Their child was so much bigger than the both of them, as a whole or as individuals. Ktulu would want Lakota to save their little girl. Lakota knew this because Lakota would have wanted Ktulu to do the same, if their positions were reversed. From her side, the child screamed, and it pierced like an arrow straight through her heart. Mother. It was all she had ever wanted to be, her entire world and destiny, and Ktulu had helped to make it. She saw it in the horn on the little filly's brow, the red and black accents that could have only come from her mate. That scream that she could never have ignored, not for all of the world. And Ktulu would murder her the moment she made it to the mare's floe if she chose her mate over their foal. She hoped to catch her beloved's eyes, in that split second, and then ice crackled thick like lightning across the surface of amethyst. There was no time for words, but truly there was no need for them. Lakota knew Ktulu would understand everything she was trying to say in that one, brief look. Turning, she ran to the edge of her own land form, and with the strongest thrust of her legs as she could manage, she kicked off just as her hooves nearly kissed the top of the magma below.
It was a rough landing, knees aching as she skid across the rock. Before she could even stabilize herself, she threw her neck over her child's withers, tugging her close and shielding her with as much of her own body as she could. "Bambino," she breathed, squeezing tight. "I'm here, you're safe." She had made her decision, not just for herself, but for her and Ktulu both. And she knew it was the right one, deep in her heart.
Ktulu touched her muzzle to Lakota's shoulder as the blue mare groaned at the realization that they had not completed their fourth and final task. It was not the end of the world unless the Earth God decided to be a jerk about it. She hoped that he would, instead, see their eagerness at starting a family of their own as steps in the right direction. If they were not so completely set on one another and children they would not have returned, so ready and willing to turn in their quest and begin a new chapter of their lives together. "Everything will be fine." She said not only to assure Lakota, but to assure herself.
The dark mare waited silently for their final task to be handed to them, but was unaware that Lakota had already slipped into some sort of trance. It wasn't until she really looked at Lakota that she could tell something was off. "Kota?" When he mate didn't answer her she knew that there had to be something going on. The Gods had to have given them their final task, but she didn't know what it was. She was left in the dark, waiting for Lakota to snap out of the trance like state that she'd been put in, and wondering what she was going through.
Had Ktulu known exactly what Lakota was seeing and what she was doing she would have been proud of her mate. Their children were more important than either of them would ever be. She would have urged Lakota to go after their child, to rescue their baby and forget about her, and if Lakota hesitated she would have jumped into the lava and ended her own life to make Lakota rescue their child.
But she didn't know and the only thing she could do was wait in silence until Lakota came back to her.
A whirlwind of images suddenly flashed around Ktulu - all that Lakota had seen and experienced were made known to the unicorn. The child, the lava and the fire, Lakota's choice.
For both Lakota and Ktulu to see, the phantom child began to glow. Its body was filled with light, pouring and surging through every opening. Its violet eyes became pure starlight, as its body became beautifully translucent. The light pulsed so brightly that the child became invisible, completely wrapped up within the blinding and binding light. Consumed whole, the light diminished suddenly leaving only a glistening point of starlight. It rose above Lakota, twirling around her for a moment, before doing the same to Ktulu. It wavered for a moment, casting glistening shapes of light onto the Constrictors back, before returning to the blue equine. There it pulsed for a moment, before descending into Lakota, and filling her with the same warm light that the child held only moments before.
