Today Isopia was focused. Her focus was more intense than ever before, because now there was something she wanted. Rarely did the girl feel a need for anything - even the pangs of hunger and sleep feel distant to her elevated mind. Her body needed those things, but her mind did not. It was not often that the girl's mind coveted anything other than knowledge. Physical trinkets and baubles meant little to her.

Until now.

The demi-child cantered on the well worn paths of the Falls, winding and collecting when the trails were condensed and narrow, and extending and racing when they opened up. Her body was growing like a weed, and it felt good to run and exercise her rapidly growing muscles and frame. Deeper and deeper into the Falls she went. The path she tracked down became far less worn as she continued, even appearing to be merely animal paths in certain places. Isopia had traveled this way a few times since she had come to live here, and was confident that not many ventured this far in. It was to her advantage that they didn't, for the girl preferred solitude. In fact, that was why she was doing this.

Solitude. A place to call her own.

Eventually the path fell away all together; lost in a grove of trees. Isopia continued through, until she came to a small clearing. It was quite small - enough for perhaps 10 or so horses. Enclosed on all sides by trees, the clearing held grasses that were chest high, as well as a small stream that bubbled up through the ground and continued on to empty into one of the larger waterfalls.

Breathing deeply, the demi-girl nodded. It was here that she would build her hut.

The girl closed her eyes and concentrated. Never before had she tried to construct the sort of structure that she had in her mind. She wanted a hut - a round but enclosed structure that would become part of the earth. She would create the foundation out of stone, and the rest out of compact earth. Her hope was that over time it would simply be encompassed by the nature which surrounded it: tree roots would grow through it, plants would grow on it. Besides, she was the daughter of the earth God after all. She was sure she could help it along.

In her mind she pictured the foundation: four pillars placed equidistant from each other would provide support for the walls. They would connect in an arch - about 10ft tall so there would be ample head room inside. It would only be large enough to fit 3 or 4 horses in total - perhaps fewer depending on their size. The foundation was also imbued with magic which would keep it warm, which would likely prove useful in the oncoming FrostFall. The girl had never lived through the Winter before, but she would not be unprepared.

Calling upon her other magic, the girl began to slowly shape the walls and rough. It was exhausting, and she had to stop several times. Still, the girl was diligent and even stubborn in her resolve. As she worked, her appearance became ragged and unkempt. Dirt smeared her blood-painted body, while stains of sweat and mud tracked down her death-marked face. Her mane and tail were thick with brambles, yet the girl didn't seem to mind. She ignored the strains and cries of pain from her muscles and continued to work.

The world seemed happier today than it had in a long time. The queen- though she was not really a queen any longer- did not feel the blackness of depression draping over her, the crushing weight of sorrow on her soul, the claws of the devil sinking into her very flesh. She was simply Kahlua now- Kahlua the Sunshower, queen of nothing. Years ago she would have frowned at the idea, upset that she no longer held power over others. Now, having realized that such a goal was nothing more than brainwashing from her parents and upbringing, the paint was content with what she had decided. Some roll in the Edge, as of yet to be determined, but not leadership. Not the stress and responsibility, the expectations, the need of others. She could just be herself…

The earth around her sang.

Physically, the Sunshower was strangely unburdened as well. Only a pair of necklaces were on her- one key, one vial of water. The rest of her belongings- basket, music box, scorpion, and so on- were nestled safely back in the Edge after she had taken the glass cart back there. It would be needed to transport Resplendence’s box anyways. Truly, the queen was sorry that she had to separate herself from her sister, but they both had different needs. Right now, the paint’s needs were in the Edge and, perhaps equally as important, they were not in the Falls. At least, most days they weren’t.

Today, the Sunshower came back to the Falls with purpose. Striding over the border confidently, for she hadn’t told anyone her plan to abandon her leadership position, Kahlua found a well-traveled path and passed over the field where so much bloodshed had occurred at her will. Resisting the urge to stop and look for blood, to relive those memories in all their vivid horror, the paint carried on. She had come here to find her daughter. It only took her a moment to decide where she should look.

Where Kahlua was vivacious and outgoing, the demigoddess was self-isolating and introspective. She would not be at the front of the herd land where all could see. She would be hidden in the forest, down some winding path, behind a waterfall, or somewhere similar. Sending Khan to search farther off, the paint searched the treetops for a raven form. Did her daughter dance as one with nature today?

It was a long time before Khan was finally able to locate the girl, but when he did he swooped gently down around her and cawed, his call (and mental instructions) dragging Kahlua ever-deeper into the forest. Though he could tell the demi-goddess was working, the icedrake did not mind causing a disruption or two. Perhaps showing off for the growing girl, the blue let a blast of his ice breath freeze a piece of the hut she was building before he finally settled onto a branch to await his bonded. She arrived shortly thereafter.

As Kahlua made her way through the thick grasses in the clearing, she watched her daughter work and could not help but smile. She said nothing, for she knew that look- the concentration it took for her to build the glass wall at the Edge had been monumental and, eyes dancing over the sweaty body of the young child, the paint absently wished that she had her magic still- for selfish reasons, but also because she found herself wanting to take some of the burden from the demigoddess. Great feats were so difficult to accomplish on one’s own.

Stopping a ways off, eyes dancing over the structure as it grew and came to life, the Sunshower murmured softly, “good job,”but otherwise did not approach or distract. It seemed, she noted, that Khan had done enough of that.

Originally the girl had thought that perhaps she wanted a dragon. There were so many in the Edge, and their strength and beauty was obvious. Some could breathe fire, others ice or sparks. Now however, she wasn't so sure.

As Khan appeared in the clear - her clearing - her golden eyes tracked his movements. As he let a cry escape his lips, the girl knew that her Mother couldn't be too far behind. Likely the dragon was both mentally and verbally signalling that he had found her child. And Kaj said she didn't want the responsibility ... so why is she tracking me? However her thoughts were displaced as the dragon breathed ice on her foundation. Isopia's ears pinned against her skull, and her death-marked face shot upwards towards the dragon.

She definitely didn't want one if they were going to cause so much trouble.

With a snort, the mud-smeared child trotted forward to inspect her hut. In truth, she didn't really mind. Frostfall was going to come down on them soon enough, and if her hut couldn't withstand some ice, it wouldn't last through the winter. In a way, the dragon was merely testing her structure for soundness. Nevertheless, she didn't appreciate the disruption.

As Kahlua arrived, bringing a symphony of sounds with her, the girl cast a look over her shoulder. Her mane was dread locked against her neck, and her forelock was smeared with mud and plastered back around her ears. Sweat coated her ever growing body, hungrily attracting dirt whenever possible.

good job

The praise felt awkward, and perhaps even a little strained. Did her Mother even know what she was doing? Worse, was she going to offer to help? Silently, the girl pivoted around to face the Queen, her amber eyes wide and emotionless. Questions raced through her mind: Were things all tied up in the Edge? Was her Mother here to stay? Would she have to admit that while she wouldn't let her mother give her a name, she had let a whale? And even worse, it didn't begin with K? Should she tell her that she had gone to see her Father? That he had given her a quest?

Maybe she would start with something simpler.

"I'm building a hut." She offered, voicing the obvious. "The foundation is complete. I will have to wait before making the rest of the sides and so forth ... This type of magic is really draining." As she admitted her weaknesses, she felt her face flush. To try and compensate, she continued talking. "The rocks give off heat, so I'll be warm in the winter. You won't have to worry about me." She concluded. Since Kahlua had seemed so worried about the responsibility of having a child, Isopia assumed that this tidbit of information regarding the temperature of the rocks might put her mind at ease.

"Are you and Khan staying with the rest of the herd?"
