Htar
a wandering soul

The rain fell in great torrents from the sky, catching on the leaves that the trees had not yet shed. Thunder rumbled in the distance, promising to illuminate the dark storm clouds with lightning.
Htar stumbled through the dense underbrush, seeking shelter from the unrelenting onslaught of water. The rain turned his thick mane into a heavy curtain that tangled in his antlers, stung his eyes and dripped into his nose. He paused to shake some of the water from his coat, but it seemed to cling like a second skin.
The rain was collecting in puddles covered in needles and leaves that hid the depth of the water beneath. Twice now he'd misjudged and his ivory belly and forelegs were now soiled with mud. Htar was not the vain sort, but he could feel incredibly uncomfortable sensation of the tiny particles dragging at the fine hairs on his chest.
His gaze fell upon a small outcropping of rock. There was an inlet that looked large enough to cover his bulk if he ducked his head.
But of course, the cave being the only shelter he'd seen for at least an hour, it was occupied. Birds could seek cover in whatever was left of the canopy, but the rabbits would have had to seek higher ground when their den had flooded.
There was a pair of soaked rabbits huddled back against the rock, cautiously watching his approach.
He hesitated at the mouth of the cave. He glanced back into the rain, but he was reluctant to go back out into it when there was plenty of room for all three of them.
"It's alright," he called, stepping inside. "I won't hurt you."
The rabbits only stared at him with their wide, blank eyes and scooted farther away from him.
Sighing, Htar arranged himself as far from them as he could get, and settled in to wait. How long could the storm last, anyway?

Laughter gurgled forth as the storm made it's way into Helovia. It had the power to chase all manner of creatures from it's rumbling perch. Yet, the antlered girl was gleeful! Long slender legs drove her forward towards the thundering black mass. Feathers waved as if they were chasing her as well, as they swung behind her towering horns. Ducking her head the girl kicked her heels up laughing her sweet tune. There was something about storms that drove the mare wild. She adored racing into the tempest. Loved the feeling of rain racing pounding her flesh as it darted it's way to give it's life for the plants.

Before long she reached the down pour and embraced it like an old friend. Skidding in the wet grass and earth the mare closed silver orbs as water ran in rivets down her rosy pelt. Thoroughly soaked orbs peeled open once more to gaze through the sheets of rain. A white and brown hide slipping through the trees caught her attention. She allowed the creature to move passed before picking her way through the trees after it. Apparently he didn't enjoy the life giving water as much as she did. Smiling brightly she moved towards him. Dainty ears picked up his words; which only spurred her curiosity. Calling out softly she paused out side of the small cave and peaked in. Silver lanterns looked over the scared rabbits before turning back to him.

"Hello are you new here?" Her lyrics were sweet, tinted with her Scottish accent. Sticking her head in careful not to make the to other feel uncomfortable. Nostrils quivered drawing in the warm masculine scent before speaking again. "I am Tiva, it's a pleasure." She smirked softly, now that she knew he was a male, it was hard to be polite and not... Seductive. "Quite a storm we're having here, eh?" Tilting her feather and bead donned dome playfully.

Htar
swimming through the ashes of another life

Htar was watching water drip from the rock overhead when a figure emerged from the tree line. He watched her prance about, completely unperturbed by the cascading rainfall. She even seemed to enjoy it.
A small sound came from behind him, his ear flicked back from the filly to catch it. The rabbits had reluctantly accepted his nonthreatening presence, but the young newcomer was frightening them once more. He arched his neck and drew himself to his full height, while sweeping the damp fan of his tail back to shield the little creatures from the filly's prying eyes.
But as she drew closer, the sight of her halted the challenge in his throat. She looked like him. Her antlers were tipped in bright cerulean, matched by a handful of feathers tied to them. Her coat was soaked, but the color of a newborn fawn splashed with white.
She was speaking to him, but he barely heard her. He hadn't seen another antlered horse since leaving his herd, years ago, and he couldn't stop staring. The rabbits were long forgotten behind him. Surely they wouldn’t need protecting from someone so like him.
Tiva, she said.
He bent a knee formally and offered, "My name is Htar."
Htar hesitated drawing himself back up, realizing her wide eyes were silvery and blank. Was she blind? He couldn't imagine that she was, the way she'd woven through the trees without hesitation, even in the lowered visibility brought by the storm.
He thought it too rude to bring it up, and pressed onward with a more pertinent line of questioning. "What is this place? Are there other horses like us here?"
His eagerness was too apparent, and he had to physically draw himself back and take a calming breath. She'd said something polite and neutral, commenting on the weather like it was normal. Perhaps it was here.
"Yes, I've never seen it's equal. I hope the lightning strikes don’t come too near the forest. There are many tall trees that would attract the electricity."

OOC: Oh thank you!

Laughter bubbled from soft kissers as she watched him take a stance. 'Oh dear, whatever shall I do?' She mocked the stallion silently eyes dancing playfully in the flash of lightning. Silver did not miss gold staring so openly at her teal tipped antlers. Raising her head proudly the mare smirked as she lazily looked over his own horns. "May i ask why you are defending those wee rabbits? I mean non of the Earth God's creatures harm, sir." Lowering her muzzle towards the brown creatures she smiled kindly, careful not to flash porcelain teeth. It didn't really bother her if the white butted creatures liked her or not, just that she tried.

Dome and ears pricked curiously at his name and manners. Gracefully the girl lowered her own frame sweeping the rocks with her long flaxen mane. Rising once more a smile still painted kindly upon her gentle face she takes in his appearance carefully examining him. He was very handsome with the black blaze, black streaks in his tail, not to mention his muscles. 'Today could be even more entertaining than I imagined.' His query brought forth another tilt of her head. She thought quietly for a moment before answering, "This land is dubbed Helovia the home for four herds and four Gods; Earth, Sun, Time, and Moon. I've come across winged horses, and other unicorns. I'm sure there are normal horses here was well, but I have yet to meet any."

Curiously she watched his reaction, was he a born loner like herself, or did he long for a herd? By the way he leaned towards her she assumed he was the later. She smiled gleefully up at the golden eyed stallion as he spoke of the storm as well. "Yes that would be... terrifying if a tree just burst into flame. But there isn't anything better than a good rain, thunder and lightning just drive me crazy." Feeling sheepish the girl smiled glancing up at him before turning to look behind her. She was sure this strapping male would warn her of any danger, but you never really know about a male.

The air was changing around him. Birds quaked and fluttered in their trees, some darting over branches and vines to find their sanctuary before the storm hit. Clouds that brought the storm were now above the leafy canopy overhead and a light patter began to spit at his hide from the heavens. Tilney really didn't mind the rain, but the temperature had dropped quite dramatically; it was quite cold. He wished he had not ditched his cloak in its usual tree hollow when he left his icy home for the day.
With each passing day he explored more of his new home and the surrounding territories. The Threshold was quite a trek, but he wondered how far he could walk through it until he was not of Helovia any longer but back in the land he had come from. The prospect though of leaving and perhaps not being able to find his way back scared him profusely. Sometimes he wished he was not born so curious.

The storm was among him now and the last of the forest life were dashing for shelter. He fret for the hares an rabbits, mice and other creatures of the earth whos homes were soon to be flooded and made into mud. Tilney quickened his pace, determined to find shelter. A strange weight clung to his tail and turning his head, he noticed a small field mouse clinging desperately to the flaxen locks. A smile crossed the bronzed stags maw "hold on!" he whispered; It was time to clamber to higher ground.

Swiftly pacing his way through trees he began his journey double-back to his northern home. Over hills he began to climb, only stopping when voices were caught in his audits.
Verdent gaze searching, his emerald eyes found their way to a pair of crowned creatures like himself taking refuge in a cave. A laugh escaped his maw and he thundered over, not even taking into consideration that these two may not be very friendly. "Lovely weather" Tilney smirked as he entered the cave, shaking the rain form his hide. Glancing past his fetlocks he watched his small companion clamber from his tail and make a run for the warm depths of the cave.

Taking a closer look at the caves other visitors he noted that they too posessed large bony crowns. So far he had only met one other antlered folk since his arrival in Helovia; his friend Arah, who this ivory stallion closely resembled. The other, smaller doe was clad in an interesting collar and beautiful feathers hung from her headdress just like an lantern was strung to his. The male had a porcelain coat with black interruptions in his mane while the fae owned haunting silver eyes and an ashy cream coat. They were an interesting pair, and he wondered if they were new to Helovia just like he had been when he first crossed the threshhold. Had they come here together? Did they need a place to stay? Surely there was room at the basin.
"You look far from home" He noted to the white stag. There was a tiredness to his demenor, as if he'd been walking a very long time.
His gold ears twitched when they caught the soft scratches the shy rabbits made from behind the brutes tail. "Friends of yours?" He quizzed him, his viridescent gaze shifting to the spotted doe.

Htar
i wish you never told me, i wish i never knew

The filly took on a distinctly mocking attitude as she copied his polite bow of greeting. He could ignore the silliness of foals, he'd been young once, after all. Her colorless eyes seemed to sweep over him, so perhaps she wasn't as blind as they implied.
She gave a brief explanation of the lands, speaking of strange wonders like gods and horses with wings. Such a thing didn't seem right to him. A horse was a creature of the earth, not the sky. He'd watched many a bird float weightlessly through the updrafts but found himself unable to apply the vision to the bulk of a horse. Even one as slight as Tiva.
The filly glanced away from him as she mentioned the prospect of a tree catching fire in such a storm. Perhaps he was out of practice speaking to other horses, but he could not tell if the idea frightened her and she was simply putting on a brave face, or if she would find it as thrilling as the storm itself.
"The ground is far too wet for the forest to catch fire," he assured her, in case it was indeed the former. "The noise would echo for miles and possibly even a few branches would fall from the canopy, but little else."
A laugh drifted from the trees, much deeper than the filly's had been when she'd danced in the rain. Htar's ears automatically flattened themselves against his skull, but the newcomer seemed perfectly oblivious to his objections. He only saw a flash of golden hide and caught a whiff of drenched stallion before the creature had inserted himself beside Htar in the cave.
His hipbone struck the rocks beside him as he pulled back, annoyed at the complete disregard for his personal space. Even the bold filly had shown more care in approaching a stranger.
He opened his mouth to demand the stallion find other shelter, when he was arrested by the sight of antlers for the second time that day. Htar settled for curling his lip into a sneer as the gold stallion spoke. The comment seemed casual, but cut deep. He was indeed far from home. There was no home for him anymore.
His tail had flagged with the distractions of the horses before him, but at the golden stallion's comment he glanced back at the two reasons he was in this mess at all. He turned a haughty glare on the other horse.
"Is it not the duty of the strong to protect the weak?"
His gaze dared the horse to challenge him. He believed his words deeply, and let them rule whatever was left of his life. There had been no one to protect him when he was weak, and he would not stand by now that he was strong.

Silver orbs sparkled curiously as he looked her over and took in the information. "This land is also full of magic, and companions. They are animals of all sorts that are bound to one equine's soul. They are like family, only stronger I guess. I saw one up close when I first arrived here." She thought back to the light colored mare and her odd bird thoughtfully. "Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not even a little worried about the storm or what it might bring. I adore all of Father Earth's mighty things." She smiled softly at him before titling her head. The doe didn't mind the rain still pounding down on her back an rump, but she was grateful for her head to be within the shelter. His words brightened her smile. 'Looks and brains, how clever.'

The sound of laughter drew her neck to the left as another approached. He two had antlers, which drew a soft giggle from her own rosy kissers. Dainty head followed the other's movement into the cave, as eyes flicked to watch Htar. She saw the ears, the hip kiss the wall and the clear dislike written upon his face. Sharp eyes also caught sight of the drenched mouse scurrying away into the cave. Clearly it was rare of her to actually enjoy storms. Coking her hip she allowed the two stallions to fight it out. Ears pricked to catch the exchange searching for the tones behind the words. Htar was not happy about this at all, but the other seemed to be blissfully unaware. Feathers swished softly in the moist air as the alabaster spoke of protecting the weak.

Another batch of warm giggles tickled the cool air before she spoke, "Do not make the weaker of us protect the others. There is no need for harsh words or actions. Do we not all wish to be out of this gale?" She smiled looking between the two for a moment before continuing. "Sir, is it not rude to ask questions before even giving your own name?" The smile now upon her face was that of a patient mother gently reprimanding a naughty child. "I am Tiva and this stallion, you have shoved, is Htar." Blinking softly she watched the golden tree marked stud. How would he take her words? Would there be a fight here after all? It didn't matter, not to her anyway.

From the moment Tilney made his entry to the hollow he knew that some of the grottos party did not welcome him. The stallion had tensed on his arrival, audits flattening against his skull. It was a face Tilney was not unfamiliar with; the nose-screwing, hoof-scraping look of general displease. And so the bronze gent felt the slightest bit hurt. I am only trying to get out of the rain! Was his thought. It soon changed to an emotion this stag did not feel very often; defensive. It's not your cave anyway. The doe though seemed much more pleasant, and so Tilney took to ignoring the scowling facial expressions from the ivory stallion beside him.
The alabaster spoke and even his voice challenged tilneys strings. Is it not the duty of the strong to protect the weak?.
"Surely it is" The golden stag began "That is why you have escorted these wet rabbits to safety is it not? Soon their warren will be a flood, mess of mud and new burrows will have to be dug. It is why I carried that field mouse to this cavern also; what was she to do when her hollow filled with the gale?".

Tilney was not a fighting stallion. He used his words to fight his battles and it was not something he was ashamed of. He accepted that his combat skills were not flash and he knew his strengths were very much in other areas. He was a compassionate and creative stag, not a fearless, emotionless warrior like so many a brute wished to be. "In fact, is it not the reason you are in this cave? Us mere mortals cannot stay out in such a flurry. This cave is stronger then a thousand of you, you seek its refuge because you are weaker then father earths magnificent swell outside of it" He paused and looked to the spotted doe and still she was cheerful. She reminded him of himself a little; a little positive light. "It is why I am here. If a tree fell on my back it would break my spine in two. If I was caught in a landslide I would be burried and not found for a thousand years. I am certainly not the strongest of brutes either unlike you who is so strong; I dont think I would last long in such a gale before i froze" He was also un afraid to admit it. He was not some fight-happy stag who got his worth from challenging every male in sight. Tilneys worth came from honesty.

He wondered where such an intense question came from in the first place. He had only asked if the rabbits were his friends.
Then music filled the air. It was a pretty little laugh from the rosy filly and a smile etched its way back to tilneys face. She accused him of being rude to ask questions before giving them his name and a soft laugh of his own hummed from his maw.
"Very rude indeed, you must forgive me" Was his gentle hum. Tiva was her name and the grouchy stag was Htar. "Tiva and Htar! Its a pleasure to meet you, I am Tilney. Sorry for shoving you Htar I never meant to uh, shove"
because I just wanted to get out of the rain!

Htar
i am hiding from some beast, but the beast was always here

Tiva seemed to take the arrival of the stallion in stride, scolding the larger horse like he was her own colt. She even dismissed his own words, like they meant very little to her. It was clear to him that Tiva had faced little hardship in her short life. He felt momentarily torn between curing her of the notion that life was kind to its subjects and allowing her to continue on as the sweet, fearless filly that she was.
Looking into her kind silver eyes, the choice was simple. He only hoped that her eventual teacher was not unnecessarily cruel.
The other stallion, in Htar's distraction, had begun to rant and ramble in response to his and Tiva's words. He seemed quite distressed at Htar's statement in particular. Curiously, he seemed to want to group himself with the rabbits and mouse he'd brought. Htar cast a skeptical eye over the horse. He didn't seem sickly or small, in fact he was of a similar size to Htar himself. Could it be that the stallion simply did not like to fight?
Htar had never met a stallion that didn't like to fight. They fought over everything. Mares, grazing rights, any words that could be construed as a slight against their honor. Htar didn't enjoy fighting, that was true, but he had learned out of sheer self preservation.
Something in his chest eased. There would be no locking horns today.
He listened to the rest of the horse's speech, and realized that the horse was trying to tell him that they were all weak in the face of nature, of the gods. The cave protected all that needed shelter, and it did not discriminate. He had to agree. The storm had even driven him to find cover. He was not above nature's wrath.
The stallion introduced himself as Tilney, and even offered an apology to Htar. It sounded sincere, though there was a hint of exasperation in his tone.
"Things were… different where I came from." He said, in way of explanation. "I suppose we should wait this out together."
He gave a tentative smile to the other two horses.

Silver eyes twinkled softly as the doe watched the boys argue. Stallions could be so... difficult sometimes. The dancer had to fight laughter as she pricked ears and attentive eyes caught everything. They always seemed to butt heads, males. Htar looked in her direction and cause a twinge of some strange emotion to ripple through her young heart. 'How odd...' Antlered head tilted curiously for a moment trying to figure out what her own emotions were, as well as the alabaster's. He still seemed upset, but not at her. Most of the tree painted stag's words were lost to her as she hunted how to name the feelings flowing through her. Words of trees snapping bones drew the girl out of her shell once more.

Feathers ruffled softly as her dainty head tilted to the right this time. How horrible a death falling to a tree, humiliating and painful. A shiver passed through her body at the horrific thoughts. Tiva was sure the others would assume she was shaking from the chilly rain. 'Hmmm maybe I'll let them think that, see who offers up their cozy spot first.' In all honesty she wasn't even slightly bothered by her coat of water. Her damp muzzle twitched as she sampled the newcomer's scent once more. 'How curious.' Lips upturned slightly before tinted tones were sung, "Good sir, if you were to fall in such a terrible way, would your herd not search for you?" it wasn't hard, once she tried, to smell the others upon his coat. Maybe not direct contact, but enough to leave a trace.

She smiled and bowed slightly towards the golden stud as he gave his name, Tilney. Turning back to Htar she smiled softly, "In all my travels I have learned how hard it can be to learn new customs. I'm sure a smart stud like yourself will pick up on it quickly." There was no teasing note, nothing to show that she wasn't serious. It would be a shame for either of the males to think she was being rude. "It shouldn't take to long for this storm to blow over, with the wind the way it is." She smiled softly silver gaze flashing between the two before her.
