But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?

She was drawn to this border. The sheer fact that wings of fire would wrap around her own, would close up the hole in her wing… it made her feel free. The border that had made her worry about being trapped, about being isolated, when she had come toward it. That border was doing the complete opposite now. Ardere floated near her companion's frame, body doing twists and turns. Ardere was interested enough in the actual water, and didn't even bother to care that it seemed as though they would be stationed at this border for a while.

Laedere carefully began to move back toward the border. Her limbs pausing a few steps away only to break into a full out run. Her wings snapped out as the key pounded against her chest - a reminder that she would have lift-off today at this border. And, as the downbeat of her wings slaps against the ground the fire erupts around the feathered appendages and catches the air beneath her. Instantly, she arrows her body back toward the other side, wings easily moving back in time - building up some of the loss muscles that made them look weak. Aye, if she kept this up, perhaps she wouldn't feel as weak anymore.

A few loops in the air and then a soft landing. Kicking up the sand and shuffling back and forth she spins her frame after moving forward just enough distance to give her adequate space to take off again. She continues to repeat this process, hopping back and forth across the border until the sun began to reach high in the sky. She landed once more and finally settled back inside the border. Her limbs still moving back and forth, wings spread out to stretch, and eyes scanning the horizon line.

Aye. It was a lovely day, even if it was beginning to get rather hot.

For a character of Zuno's and maybe one other if someone's interested?

THERE'S A STORM WARNING JUST FOR YOU

Ampere watched the bridge light up and and over as she patrolled. The first time had drawn her attention, but before she had made it over, the bridge lit up again, but a figure was retreating. Ampere swooped around high, wanting to watch the figure to make sure it reached the other side, and it did... but then it came back, again. Puzzled, Ampere stayed around to watch the exchange happen a few more times. By now it was clear this was not a threat. Although the traveler seemed to be winged, they obviously had a key and were traveling alone. The though of them bringing over an invisible army one by one did cross Ampere's mind, but with how obvious the bridge was she doubted such tact. Still... she drifted closer with each circle, searching for the familiar thrum of electricity that existed in all life, groping with her magic to seize them, but there was no one besides the the traveler.

"Guess no one taught you not to play with fire!" Ampere called jokingly as Laedere was traveling back across to the Throat sands, where Ampere had come to settle after finishing her investigation. This was not a horse she had met before, but the key marked her as a friend, as did her wings. The fact she had wings she wasn't using still puzzled Ampere, until she got close enough to see those bandages. "Practicing for wh-" As realization dawned on Ampere (surely Laedere was practicing flying to easily slip back into it after recovery), her train of thought an subsequent speech was abruptly cut off as she noticed the horse's companion. Although, Ampere didn't realize that's what it was, because all she saw was a DOLPHIN.

"W-what," Ampere stammered at first, though she was quickly swept into anger and panic. "What the fuck are you doing with that dolphin!?" Now it became clear. Laedere was torturing the poor thing by forcing it to fly in FIRE of all things, "YOU SICK FUCK!" Ampere reached out with that same magic again, searching for the electrical pulses that operated the dolphin's body, and reaching out to pluck on them like the strong of an instrument, to take control of all the body functions the signals sent out. Her attempt was to guide the dolphin's body, much like gripping the string of a balloon, and take it back fast as she could to the shore near by. "It needs water of it'll DIE!" she wailed as she did so, already starting to the run hysterically towards the shore.

❈ when you go home everything looks different ❈
Laedere flickered her ears at the sound of another voice. At first, she didn't even realize that there was someone else there, thinking she had been imagining it. But, when the second sentence came she spun instantly - wings flared in a panic. Ardere circled to float above Laedere when she turned before the other mare stopped mid-sentence and her tone changed completely.

Without a second's hesitation, Laedere snapped her wings back to her side, ears starting to pin in fear, in anxiety. Had she done something wrong? Her mind was racing - trying to understand the words that were tumbling out of the blue one's mouth. Ardere, awkwardly feeling a pull, moved along with it. Her body moving back toward the shore line. Then, realizing she could go back into the water she swam immediately into it. Splashing into it before emerging again after a few seconds to take her place at Laedere's side. The last screech of water from the black and blue mare managed to ring some sort of connection in Laedere's mind, which had her move after the one who was already shooting off to the shore.

"What dost thine mean by 'sick fuck'?" Laedere inquired, Ardere doing a couple of flips in the air and letting out happy clicks. "Ardere dost not require water to subsist. Thine God of Earth granted mineself with her. Endowed her with thine abilities to live out of water…" Laedere shuffled, awkwardly explaining and not daring to meet the black and blue one's gaze. You see, it was a sign of disrespect and at this moment she did not want to fight. No, especially not when the black and blue one was angry… angry and could fly.

THERE'S A STORM WARNING JUST FOR YOU

The dolphin went willingly enough, seemed to slip into the water with newfound glee and survival. Ampere relaxed marginally, her magical grip loosening with her concentration and her panic. It was safe now all was well... or at least, better, because there was still the demented horse to be dealt with and- Ampere's thoughts abruptly ran blank as she lifted her head, her nose trailing after the flying dolphin.

All the feathers on Ampere's body bristled up at once, flaring her size. Sparks leapt into life, blue and angry beside her, as she was quickly swept into an undertow of emotion. "WHAT!?" was all she managed to bluster out as she spun to face the duo, trying once more to tug on the dolphin with her electrical threads, desperate but eventually seeing the way the creature flipped and spun and happily squealed in the sky. She'd thought perhaps Leadere was pulling the creature out and levitating it, but the animal didn't seem in any distress, and yet..

"Thine God of Earth granted mineself with her." There were so many things wrong with that one statement that Ampere wasn't even sure where to start. Still, she dropped her magic, in all forms, but the rage remained, simmering just beneath her skin in the form of a deep frown on tight lips and taut muscles coiled beneath sleek hide.
"Of course he did," Ampere seethed, silently cursing the Earth God. If she had talked to a different diety that day so long ago, she wondered if she would have gotten different answers. The dumb mountain was certainly skilled at feigning care for all living things, and yet he willingly chained most of them up. Sick fuck she thought bitterly.

"She isn't yours though," Ampere snapped after a moment of thinking terrible things about the Earth. Impatiently she switched her weight from foot to foot, wings rustling with agitation. "She is her own self, and she belongs to no one but herself - or at least she should. I suppose you don't mind enslaving other creatures so long as you benefit from it though huh?"

Even if Leadere wasn't looking for a fight, Ampere had a hard time backing down, especially on this matter. The meek mare did nothing to calm her frayed nerves, except perhaps help keep this from getting physical.

Confusion. Yep. That just about explained everything that was happening. The scream of 'what!?', the awkward way that the creature seemed to have her emotions sparking with different words. Laedere tried to explain that she gained Ardere from the Earth God, only to get some kind of heated, annoyed response from the black and blue mare. Eyes, warily moving across her frame - still not daring to meet her eyes

The mare  snaps. Seems to talk about Laedere owning Ardere.  Talking about how Ardere was her own person, thing, creature (whatever the heck you wanted to call it). She kept shifting her weight, ruffling her wings, and then accused Laedere of enslaving creatures to benefit her own gain.

Laedere's ears pinned ever so slightly, jaw slacking as she stared aghast. "Ardere tis her own being. Mineself shan't ever enslave another creature!" she almost snorts, eyes still lingering low - afraid to meet  the other's gaze. "Thine God of Earth asked for mineself to care for tis creature. Tis what mineself hath been attempting to accomplish."

She was so confused. How was she enslaving this creature who so willingly followed her? How was she doing anything except helping? Fig and she had been told to care for the eggs. She had cared for the egg. She had cared for the creature that had emerged from it. She had tried to give the creature food, to ensure that nothing hurt it. She didn't quite understand it- but she knew when it was in distress and she tried to avoid causing any of that. Why did this black and blue thing believe that she was enslaving it? She thought she had been doing this right… whatever this was.

"YOU ALREADY HAVE!" Ampere retorted hotly, annoyed at the strange accent and ignorance the girl displayed. Her apparent innocence in this ordeal only further enraged Ampere because how in the hell had the gods managed to arrange the enslavement of another creature without even making the slaver responsible? That Leadere was so unaware, and so many others with her, infuriated the Mother of Companions who's fight seemed to only be with the gods then, and thus was just as impossible as the fight between the beach and the water. Damn it all she swore.

"She is chained to your soul, her life never her own so long as yours is there to change her and influence her...she is forced but doesn't know it because it's all she's known since hatching." Ampere practically sobbed out this answer, her anger fading and dulling into perceptible sorrow for this poor life and unfortunate bond that they both wore so unknowingly. "Put in charge of creatures you know nothing about, sending them into battles they can't hope to win and would never fight..."

"There's no fix...no cure, no stopping it..." she was just muttering now, her thoughts churning with her tongue, not even bothering to look at the new mare any longer. In fact, Ampere soon stretched her wings and took the skies, forgetting the dolphin and the mare all together as she went to the veins to curse the gods some more.
