Snow crunched underhoof, the chill of winter's early bite beginning to fill the air the further North the pair went. For most of the trip Carnassial kept his silence, but he did not look about their surroundings with wonder, nor did he watch the Gold. He merely watched ahead, curled ears swiveling with the ease of one well-used to keeping a steady, constant vigil for danger. Their female companion had not accompanied them, something the tiger-painted stallion was thankful for. He was unsure of how long he would be able to stand the innuendos that had dripped from the Golden One's lips during their time with Neschume.

Eventually, however, he did break the silence of snow and wind and walking. "Tell me of your Basin. Is a soldier welcomed and needed?" He asked, words clipped, business-like, formal in their deliverance. It was not with ill-will that he held this formality to his demeanor, no, it was out of a polite respect to one who currently ranked above him(if he but knew how high above him... his demeanor wouldn't change.), who sought to guide him and bring him to a place he may call home.

He rather enjoyed the life of a soldier; blood spilt and scars earned were things he could stand by with pride. Even though his own hide bore few scars, he attributed it to luck and a measure of skill in evasion, although that never meant he escaped unscathed... healers did take care of the worst, after all. Silent once more, Carnassial, or 'Sial' as he had told the golden Thranduil, awaited his better's confirmation or denial to his request.

At least that damning venture had been only half unsuccessful. The golden, walking with the tiger hybrid did not do much to interrupt the silence. He needed the moments to think. The troubling moments with Ophelia took most of this thoughts. The sources of his anger still twisted over her, dead locked in their tossing and turnings on her words. He was not certain whether she lied or if she had simply said to for politics considering she had for some reason made her way to the Edge. Shaking his crowned head on his walk. At least Haldir had calmed down. Though the deer still kept closer than usual to the gold, and watched the tiger colored male from usually the other side of the golden if he could help it, he did not show as much panic. The creature had at least seemed, well, not hungry.

Up the mountains they walked, and the golden almost made it through the journey without having to hold a conversation. Almost. Nearing the Arch the stallions words speak out. Harks turn to him and the golden glances back in his pace. He was most surprised to meet a male so formal and direct. Course it just meant he would fit in all the more here. In fact, given his few words the creature actually reminded him of Deimos. So the suggestion hidden in his question was not surprising. “Indeed we do. Strong hearts and blades are always welcomed, and trained well by the mountain’s unforgiving life.” Bit flowery but he liked it. He always was proud to turn a phrase, and he never promised to be one of short words like Deimos.

At last the pair came to the Arch, stopping the gold looks back and nods, before stepping in. The icy bottom had frozen back in the coming cold and once again slick and dangerous. Cloven hooves found well remembered paths, but no warning did he give to the one behind. The usual last kindness was skipped, on such a serious creature it seemed more useful to tell the warning to the ice walls themselves. At last they come to the other side and the golden steps through to the valley. Winter already greeted them with a cold wind sweeping off the mountains. Turning back he looks at the tiger male. “Make yourself at home, you’ll find everything you need. You’ll find the caves and hot springs warm against the coming winter, and I’m sure seasonal spars will be picking up soon.” Then a smile breaks his lips, he had waited for this moment. “As Lord, I’ll be sure your recognition with our sentinels will be arranged.” Was that actually a thing? He didn’t know, but it sure was a nice way to throw it in. Now he pauses for a moment though, waiting to see if all was in order, or if there were any other to come and visit this strange new comer.

There was something about Frostfall in the Basin that seemed to make things quiet. More quiet and peaceful than normal. It seemed a bit strange to the gold toned vixen, to see such a silent environment at this point in time. Back home, winter was a time of celebration. Everyone had a place to be and things to do; celebrations took place nearly every day. It was something that helped turn the season of nature’s death into happiness to make the time fly by faster. Either Rexanna didn’t know if there were celebrations here, or if she was just missing out on all the fun. It was hard to say. The mare had a slight hope that regardless of being in the Basin, that if there were to be events, that it would be across all herds. She needed another excuse to be able to see Tembovu; oh how she missed that mammoth creature.

It was at this point that Rexanna found herself aimlessly wandering again, itching to go explore like she always did when she couldn’t stand being cooped up in the Basin. She needed to meet more friends instead of being such a recluse. She didn’t know very many beasts here, but that wasn’t an excuse for her to be so hidden all the time. As she approached the arch to head off in another random direction as she so often did, she noticed her golden superior bringing in a new tiger striped equine. Curiously, and in an attempt to meet new creatures, the vixen changed her mind from exploring to greeting. As the mare stepped in closer, she heard mumbling between the two, and judging by the brief threshold scent she began to know all too well, she could tell that the striped creature was definitely a stag.

As she got within speaking distance, she offered a gentle hello bow to the two of them. The bow for Thranduil was noticeably lower than the one for the other creature, due to it being her superior. Ah, but he would figure that out wouldn’t he? Clearing her throat, the mare offered the two a serene smile. ”Hello Thranduil.” The mare nods to Thranduil gently before turning her attention to the creature that smelled entirely of threshold. ”And hello to you, welcome to the Basin.” Her eyes danced across the striped beast. His coat having a base of a white cream color much like her own. How interesting. He towered her with his height, but with Thran there she didn’t seem to fear the size difference nearly as much. The wind raked across Rex’s pelt, twisting her dual colored mane and causing the chain attached to her golden horn to dance and wriggle with the chill in the air. Turning her attention back to the new stag after passing a glance to Thran, she spoke once more. ”I am Rexanna.”

The golden man answered the tiger stallion's query with such flowery eloquence that Sial half expected the man to burst into this Basin's anthem. The image amused Sial, shown only in the barest twitch of his lips. "Good. Although this does not mean I am disinterested in the other positions. Will you summarize them for me?" He questioned, moving with ease through the Arch with Thranduil; it was clear he was born on ice and stone.

Then came the 'surprise', the golden creature revealing himself as the Lord of the Basin, an assumed leader, however if he was expecting shock or such he would be sorely disappointed. Sial hardly spenr energy towards such useless emotions, and was far too good at disguising his expressions as a solemn mask. Yet there was respect there now as well, it showed in the slightly deeper bow of his neck Carnassial gave as acknowledgement to the gold's words.

Another creature soon appeared, a mare this time, of white and gold, rather fair in appearance. Sial returned her bow, making sure the point of his horn was directed away from her, a traditional greeting for peace. As he raised his head she spoke, and he glanced down out of the corner of his eyes at Thranduil, waiting for his words before he turned to the mare, Rexanna as she introduced herself. "Greetings. You may call me Sial." The words were clipped, but lacked hostility and instead held a sort of polite friendliness, albeit with short bluntness. She was kin nw after all, as was the flower-worded man beside him.

Though even he had to wonder....

Were they all short?

Well that was a disappointment. The creature’s lack of surprise was just another not to add to the growing list of disappointments this day. The golden was growing rather tired of them. The quiet cave above this heights was sounding better by the moment, yet he had asked a question. Preparing to answer it, the golden sees a figure coming. So he speaks before she arrives. “Of course, there are the thieves, healers, storytellers, and crafters as well. You may explore them first or join whichever you wish.” Now comes Rexanna over the rise and the gold turns from his conversation with the stern, no fun tiger unicorn to the girl. He remembered well the day he had recruited her, and she stood by him here. It had been a much better day, and indeed much more fun. It wasn’t that the golden sought juvenile games, that was Haldir’s department, but some sort of outwards reactions are what the gold thrived on. A motivation to play nice if you will.

As the mare came forward, and began her bows, Haldir came forward slightly, emboldened by her. He too remembered this mare, and his small bright face lite up to see her. He still glances to the tiger stripped creature, but certainly now, he was more at ease. The gold noted the change, but as usual said nothing of it. Instead he returns Rexanna’s nod and watches as she speaks to the newcomer. When the stern tiger speaks the golden at last breaks his silence. His tone though less energetic than before. “Rexanna is a phantom, one our thieves, perhaps she can tell you more of the rank.” The golden had been the head of thieves not long ago, but he was more curious to learn what the pale mare had been learning. A smirk of a smile looks to her, waiting if she would tell. He was though growing dull of the conversation. It was always at this point he did. While always curious to know about newcomers, it was clear this Sial, wasn’t much of a talker, and certainly was not showing his weakness now. Perhaps another day, but for now this was just regular old tea time chit chat, and the golden would mind taking a rain check.

Patience was virtue. She kept her eyes dancing between the two creatures, awaiting her turn once more. She was polite in this aspect. Not only for the fact that Thranduil was here, but it was a recruit as well. They needed to keep that glorious mask on the faces of all that gripped those that visited the Basin into actually becoming part of the costume. It almost always worked, for that Rexanna was pleased. At the moment, however, she had been unsuccessful in recruiting, but that didn’t mean she didn’t try. The girl worked hard to try and prove herself in her rank.

She nodded to Carnassial as he spoke his name to her as well as a hello. Eyes travelling to Thranduil as he returned her nod and spoke to the group but generalized in aiming her to speak of what she knew of the rank. She didn’t entirely know much, but she could guess the type of work they did based off of things she had heard around as well as learned. ”Ah, yes. The rank is made up of a few of us that gather information from others. We are also capable of having spies around to gather more of that information.” Her smile was gentle, kind. Almost confusing in the fact that she was this Phantom of the Sneak ranking with a face such as hers. Lifting her head slightly, her chain dancing with movement as well as her dual colored mane swishing against her neck, her eyes stayed on the tiger stag. ”We’re basically spies with a bit more power.” Her voice was gentle but sounded well informed, when in reality she felt as though she pulled half of that out of her ass.

Her eyes traveled to Thranduil, almost curious if she had explained it correctly, but refraining from asking and ruining the placebo he had built in place of her.
