Last one. Coming round the unfrozen lake the golden’s head was swinging heavily. Fighting through the snow, even with his siesta in the hot springs was hard labor, and the day was only growing colder under the waning sun. It was time to head in, to tuck up and keep warm for the long night. Haldir, who still loyally trudged behind him, barely kept up. This was the last stop, and for that, the golden kept going. Though he would be sure, if chance ever arose to give Deimos the same ills for pressing this upon him.

Coming to the haurspex’s caves the golden saw what was perhaps the most beautiful sight this side of the Heart Caves. A fire. Head jerks up and pace quickens to its warm reach. To have its heat flourish his cold wet coat and relieve the chill. This beautiful fire. This warm hot fire. This—near dead fire. Coming to a halt by the blaze it was clear the thing had been lite long time ago. The ashes scattered about and only a few logs still flickered listlessly.

The golden thinks for a moment, and looks to the trees not far. The snow had bent them to near down the earth, and a few lay cracked and broken, defeated by the weight. A grin comes on the gold’s face and he jogs to the branches, breaking off two, and dragging them to the dull fire. For a while it did not take, but slowly, with more wood and time it was crackling alive once more.

So content in its warm light was the gold, he nearly forgot why he was here. Shaking awake he calls out once more. “Öde!” It slipped away into the mountains, and the golden could care less if the other answered. After a long day, the fire was all he could think about while unbothered.

Life in a cave had been something of an adjustment to the young stud, who'd grown up under star-lit skies on the wide open tundra. It was simply not natural for their kind, just on the nature of hooves and the power of their legs to run, much less the risk of catching your horn in a crook in the dark and the dim of the damp dwellings of stone and ice.

He'd quickly started to sing a different tune come Frostfall though. The snow and the wind was so brutal here in the north, that the cave was often the only respite the stallion could find from the elements. Even if it did little to warm him, at the least it sheltered him, and for that he was thankful, if still a bit wary.

He stood against one wall now, head down and legs locked as he drifted in and out of short, dream-less sleep. Sloth had taken over him, as if the frost had actually crept inside of him and slowed the mechanisms of his body. He tried to conserve his energy with laziness, and sought to escape the gnawing of hunger with slumber. It worked, until it came time to actually churn his muscles into heat, to actually graze and eat, and then he ricketed and he rocked, creaked and groaned with the bitterness of the winter that had latched onto his joints and his ambition.
"Öde!"

The sound of his name drove him from his frosted spell, head jerking up so suddenly that his horns did catch on the wall, and awkwardly so, bracing his neck and sending a line of fiery pain down the left side of it. Öde swore loudly, the sound echoing around the cage as he maneuver himself out of the crooked fold against the rock, his horns grating against the surface agonizingly as he did so. Along the way he managed to cut a decent gash against one of his legs as it snagged on a sharp side not yet worn down with time - the unfortunate reality of being a young and new member of the herd meant you got the shit hole to live in.

"WHAT!?" he yelled out as he stopped from his hidey hole, cow's tail lashing the irritation at his flanks while his neck throbbed and his right cannon scabbed over (the one upside to the cold). He might have caught his manners upon realizing it was his lord that had summoned him, but grumpy, hungry, and now hurting, Öde was in too foul of a mood and settled for a demure grumbled instead, averting his red gaze as some form of apology.

The fire tickled at his golden coat, pricking dead nerves to its warmth. A sigh slides out as he leans into its warmth. Haldir too had come close to the flames, turning in circles to heat every cold, wet surface. It wasn’t until a shout barks over the trance of warmth that the golden wakes and looks about. Harks were flipped back, but here by the flames he was in a rather non-irritated mood. At least, for this second by the warm fire, and to have his day nearly done, he was in a better mood. He turns to look at the creature he had called, never having really seen this dark son up close. Haldir come from the other side of the gold, standing beside him, with as always for new creatures he met, a curious look.

The gold was less curious, more amused. Certainly the other was a bit frazzled, and considering his mood, and love of a bit of mischief, he couldn’t help himself. He find the red on the creature cut and considering the creature lowering his head the golden lets humor slide out instead of retort, his laughter underwriting his breath maliciously. Shaking his crowned head the golden moves on to get this over with. As entertaining as the kid was, the gold did want to be through. “You have much to gain from your new promotion, but we require something special of you.” Tasseled tail begins to flick at his sides, this same speech given three times already it truly was more of a drag now. “There are tales you know a great deal of the world at your young age, and have seen many faces, and events. Yet there is much more to know. You are tasked to discover or craft three pieces of lore, yours or the herds, to add to the records.” The gold shifts, watching the dark son. “When you have them finalized, return to me.” The golden nods, a grin slides on his lips again, looking back to the small hole the creature had crawled from. “And on an added note, find a larger cave.” Another laugh echoes through his voice. There were few caves to go around this time of year, the golden knew well (he having to choose one well above the valley), but the tease couldn’t be missed.

OOC :: @[Öde] is to create or discover three pieces of lore, be it of his past or the herds. You can ‘source’ these through discussing them with others, or thinking of them in threads. If they are about the herd, you could tie this to an ooc rank task of writing them out for the secret room and posterity. Unlimited timeline, though two seasons is suggested. When completed, return to a lead with just a quick summary of each. Have fun and good luck!
