Coming and going had become the bane of her existence, but never staying. Essetia belonged in the Throat and yet she couldn’t manage to stay in any one place for too long. It was something she’d acquired from her father and something she would never be proud of despite her willfulness to remain loyal to the south and the desert. However, when the urge to wander struck hard and unhindered, the Sleuth knew it was time to fight back… she needed to earn her position just as much as she’d needed to take it. Bucephalus had been right about one thing in Essetia’s life and it was that she needed to find out exactly what creatures she served and what creatures served her. If she had gleaned anything of intelligence from the haughty stranger, it was that.

With Romul just a breath’s distance from her shoulder, more in tune with her needs than even Essetia herself, the young sneak roamed the borders of her home. She wasn’t yet sure what she was looking for or what she would find, but there was still something –something deeply ingrained in her soul- that told her to stay when all else begged for her to go.

I won’t be like my father, she pressed inwardly. Romul sighed, now too accustomed to her inner battles and how quickly they burned out. You never were, he assured halfheartedly. Too many times he had comforted her and too many times she had denied his good sense. Perhaps that was why the wolf had regarded her more as ‘sister’ than ‘friend’.

All around them, the snow was a constant fixture that they’d wished would end. Spring could not come fast enough and yet their hoping did little to change the seasons or stir the Gods to hear their prayers. That was partly because Essetia had been born damned… she had been born to a king who was not a king and not a father and not a protector like Romul. Silently, the mare thanked her companion for his persistence as they meandered only further along the borders of the Throat. Together they could circle the vast dunes of snow-dazzled sand and find nothing to make them stop… Together, it didn’t matter where they ended up so long as they were side by side.

Traveling, all the damn time. It was a never-ending loop for Misael, but yet he hadn't done anything to find the hole in his cycle of repetition. Perhaps he felt as if he had no purpose, and that was why he wondered the new lands far and wide. Perhaps he was unknowingly searching for something, or someone. How could he know? These thoughts frustrated him as he let out a loud huff as he entered the dragon's throat. He had yet to return to these lands, the last time he was here had been his first. Misael decided that he needed to find that purpose in his life, what would make him useful and plant his roots for his future. There would be no more waiting, meandering about wishing for something to just pop out of nowhere and explain his destiny. No, Misael needed to chase the rabbit down the rabbit hole and see what laid in store for him then, this wasn't going to be an easy task.

Tresses dragged along side of him as he walked, the throat was chilled by the frostfall but his large body and massive amounts of hair had no problem keeping warm. Golden flecs of sand stirred beneath sun colored nails, the wind was creating little sand tornados. He let himself stand for a moment, taking in all what the throat had to offer. He hadn't really looked at the terrain but it was a wonderful establishment that Gaucho ran, he was delighted to call it his home (even if 'home' was a mere word instead of an actual home.)

As the striped stag continued on, golden caramel lanterns caught sight of a furry tail, but the belonging body disappeared behind a large blanketed dune. Curious, Misael picked up a trot, his knees lifting to his chest with every step, allowing him to 'float' across the shifting sands. He was proud of his gaits, he knew that they were a sight to behold just as he was. Snapping out of his self absorption, orbs floated upon two figures. One, the belonging body, was a wolf and it's master was a lovely bay mare. Her face was draped with a thin white line, an interesting marking. He always wondered if strange markings had a story behind them, or perhaps a history through family, he never asked though, knowing it could be just a strange marking and that was it. "Hello" He spoke, chords cascading from midnight lips with a beautiful darkness. "Am I interrupting your travels?" He questioned, his bold stare upon her face.

Today represented change, and although change was a bitter word in his mouth, only those who accepted it and welcomed the force were to be successful. And oh how he would be. Change is good.

They had wandered for quite some time, weaving between both dune and bramble, before finally settling along the shoreline that overlooked the vast ocean beyond their home. To them, The Dragon’s Throat was exactly what they’d been needing… exactly what they’d been looking for. To them, it represented family, stability, and safety. Yet, as always, memories of the invasion and how they’d come to accept their role in the Throat hung heavy over two bleeding hearts.

It had been quite some time now since Essetia had been freed from captivity in the Basin, but the name still left a bitter taste on her tongue. Even as she mulled over the experience in the comfort of the South, ugly thoughts of winter and the mounting snow felt all too consuming. She’d tried to escape… and failed. She’d tried to forgive… and couldn’t. Perhaps that’s why even the thought of Ulrik –the only man willing to allow her a reprieve from her prison— made her lips curl. It was with such distaste that she regarded memories of the past and it was with such distaste that she was motivated to move forward.

She needed to forget.

Someone follows,” Romul warned as they paused at the mouth of the shoreline. The mare didn’t turn to welcome their visitor but instead continued along the beach while Romul lingered behind. If they had something they needed to say, then they were invited to do so… at her convenience. The wolf however thought differently of the vibrant knight trailing in their wake and offered him a wolfish scowl that pressed his black lips into a grim, serious line. “Pretty boy,” he seethed through their mental bond.

Essetia chuckled at his frustrations, but continued her descent across the sands. However, she stopped when at last the man announced himself, a confident hello. The spy nearly turned to inspect her pursuer, but again refused him the return. “And what if you were? Would it stop you from approaching?” she called from ahead. There was a gentle jest in the way she spoke to him and she shuffled toward the sea to allow him a spot alongside her shoulder, even if her pace remained uninterrupted. Her neck was bent forward and her eyes were cast before them unmoving, but Essetia was not a malevolent creature, even if she was amused by her joking exchanges. Surely the stallion would understand that if he were given a moment or two of her time… and that was exactly what he was about to get, like it not.

It was with surprise when the bay did not turn to face him. But it did not scare away the chromed beast, Miseal did not mind the chase, it made things interesting. Striding forward, it only took him seconds to catch up with the mare who had yet to face his golden stare. He turned his head to glance at the trailing wolf, eyeing it so that the creature did not make any advances. It just wasn't the type of day that Miseal wanted claws sinking into his skin. Nearing her side, he let his steps fall with her own, the two leaving pairs of hoof prints in the moist sands."I'm afraid that your travels would have to be interrupted, I do not turn away so easily." He chuckled, chest vibrating with the lowly sounds.

Turning his eyes away from the colors of the setting sun, her turned to face her, hoping that this time she would turn to look at him. He did not like not being able to see the colors within the window of the soul. Such simple things like eye contact meant a lot to the informant, because out of all the bodily features an equine possessed, the eyes were the most expressive. "Tell me what brings you to the sands? I love a good story." He asked then, forgetting that he had yet to reveal his name. "I'm Miseal, informant of the Throat."

The mare was unsurprised that her antics were well-met, if not equally so, by the strange and persistent stallion whose name she knew not. Even when he approached her shoulder, presumably desiring the kind of eye contact shared between friends or admirers, Essetia was careful to remain as blasé as one in her situation could be. However, his frankness and unwillingness to be deterred by her coy behaviors fascinated her and so she turned one pale eye toward him. He was indeed a wonderful specimen, a man painted in shades of the moon and the earth, but still just a man by all accounts. She studied his eyes as they met her own, a vibrant gold, and she smiled despite herself when he spoke. It appeared that Essetia herself was not the only creature capable of speaking and acting on her demands.

The rumbling of his laughter forced the spy to change pace in order to accommodate him, a gesture made out of politeness alone. He’d given her no reason yet to respect him or his intentions. “Is that so? What reason do you have to follow me then? Have I captivated you, young prince?” she questioned boldly, a slight smirk spoiling her façade.

She followed his gaze as it stretched out across the sea and she hummed slightly to the sound of the waves, clearly unperturbed by his company. Essetia had always been too unaffected, too severe in her judgements of others, to notice the sun amongst the clouds of grey. Perhaps it was time to enjoy another’s willingness to tolerate her. Or at least try.

When he spoke again, the spy titled her face toward him, her gaze finally landing wholly between the two horns that reached back toward his withers. She’d never seen anything like them on an equine of any sort and delighted in the way they curved away from his skull. However, she’d never been one to remark on appearances and simply let her fascination fall by the wayside. Besides, Essetia was distracted by the childish nature of the stallion and his need to prod her for conversation where she felt none was needed. But instead of avoiding the question, she nodded, thoughtful.

His name was Misael- an informant of the Dragon’s Throat. Was it any wonder that he resided here, given that they were in fact wandering along its shores? “It is good to know you then Misael. I’m Essetia and he is Romul,” she answered while gesturing toward the white wolf trailing just behind them. “To answer your question, I’ve come here to enjoy the sun and the waves… Is that not something that folks do these days? Surely it wouldn’t make for a good tale…”
