"Ah!" Thump.

A whine escaped the caramel painted colt as he landed, tangled among his own legs and wings. It hurt every time he fell, but luckily his wings could save him from most trips to meet the ground. This time he hadn't been so lucky. Cera had long legs for his age, betraying how tall he would be once he'd aged into adolescence and adulthood. They were great for running, able to cover long distances, but not so great as he couldn't control them very well, and more often than not ended up toppling hoof over tail onto whatever surface he tread on. Glancing around and seeing that nobody was around to notice his spill, Cera untangled his legs and pushed himself up, swaying to and fro until he righted himself with a quick push of his wings. Emerald eyes glanced around once again. Where was Midas?

Cera had stuck almost completely to the side of the painted pegasus, but he also knew that Midas needed some time to himself. Cera had also wanted to explore. Tossing his head he set out once again, and having no knowledge of borders was moving wherever he wanted so long as he wasn't lost. Even should he become lost, he'd cry for someone to come and get him. After experiencing the companionship of Midas, Cera wanted to make even more friends. Calling out as loudly as he dared, skipping all over and beatings his wings with jovial whinnies. "Hello! Hello!" Unsure if anyone would answer, but having too much fun either way. Cera didn't know how to fly, but he liked to lengthen his jumping and play with his wings. Tumbling about the land as he continued his happy call, waiting perhaps for someone to answer.

Thump.

Or...perhaps for that to happen again.

Lullaby was starting to familiarize herself with the oasis, it was a fairly easy task from the sky. The problem was knowing the distance on the ground from one point to another. Making sure to continue to heal herself properly, she too learned the layout by using hooves. Why walk when she could fly? Weeks passing the old injury was healed, and she knew she needed to keep her wings strong. She took pride in being fit, and going long lengths with them alone. The white mare was getting a bit lonely for company, and wanted to properly meet other members of the herd. Maybe then she could decide what it was she wanted to do.

A frustrated sigh, she roughly pushed her wings up, and down against the currents. Rising high she took one last glimpse of the clouds, before letting herself glide back down to the earth. How lucky she was, spying a figure beneath her.

Slowly losing height she began to notice important details, him trying to fly, falling, and getting up quickly. Poor dear. Learning to fly was not exactly easy breezy. The youth continued on as if nothing had happened, and she was close enough to hear him call out. A smile to her lips, she hovered a little longer, before circling. She saw him attempt to well she wasn't sure what, before crashing down again. The lady landed steadily upon her pillars in front of the lad. Stormy wings were first stretched out as she tested them before tucking them to her barrel. "Goodness, what long legs you have!" She said as if in shock, as a bit of her was. "Need some help or you got it?" She would ask, not wanting to hurt the boy's pride any further. Her brother's had taught her both boys and men liked to hold onto that pride.

"You know I could show you some pointers."

From his tangled position on the ground, the gangly colt heard the steady beating of wings from above. Big green eyes peered up from under a fluffy mess of forelock. A few yards from him a pretty white mare landed before him. The markings upon her muzzle intrigued him, and he made no move to untangle himself. She smelled like Midas, something that he would understand later on was simply the smell of the Dragon's Throat members. Tilting his head to the side and laughing along with her, whinnying softly as he lurched up onto his hooves once again. Patterned bittern wings shaking out and curling back in neatly by his sides.

He regarded her with a quiet, happy smile. Her voice was feminine, one he had never encountered before. Midas had been his only company so far, and he had almost never met a female that was so kind."I know! They are hard to walk. But see? I used to it!" Chirping happily, not bothered at all that he fell a lot. He tripped quite a lot, and hadn't quite grown enough to experience or understand humility or pride. Therefore he had no issue admitting that he wasn't very good on his legs yet.

How kind she was, to offer pointers! This thought crossed Cera's mind and he bounced in place happily, wings extending and prancing happily if unsteadily. "Could you? Could you?" Remembering how she had been flying and soon stilling his happy movements, ears flicking as he thought it over. Eyeing her wings curiously. "We fly with these?" He had never tried to actually lift himself off the ground, easily occupied with using them for balance or giving him a little boost when running or playing.

There was little that did not excite Azeen. She was a small, mostly white filly with spots of grey on her legs and a darker nose, as the hair thinned and showed her black skin. She had the dip in her nose that was customary to Arabians, giving her a strange appearance compared to most horses, particularly young ones.

It was her blue eye that gave her the most excitable appearance, particularly since both blue and brown were very big. Being mostly white, she was usually spotted immediately. At the moment, however, she was crouched awkwardly beneath a bush, watching something very pretty. It was a butterfly. She hadn't seen one with such deep colors of blue and black, and the way the wings looked like felt, before. Mouth partially open, she gazed at it. Then something crashed through the brush, and both Azeen and the butterfly was startled. In the moment that Azeen turned to look and see what long-legged creature had caused such a commotion, the butterfly had flown off, and Azeen drew a heavy sigh.

While she was wanting to wiggle her way out from the underbrush, a shadow made her duck instinctively. Being alone made her given to being in danger. While she was not wary of a young foal, she did not know what large, flying beast was here. She had heard there was more than just simple Pegasi. However, what she saw was another Pegasus. It was a female, by the looks of it, and she was very friendly, and so Azeen wiggled her way out of the brush. She tried standing once she thought she was clear, but a step forward revealed that she had a hind leg still tangled in a branch. After pulling too hard, her leg came free, and she rolled forward, clear for both the Pegasi to see. There she lay for a bit, huffing unhappily before looking up with her eyes, one brown, one blue. Then she smiled, forgetting about her own shortcomings for a moment.

"Hi! Sorry to, uh, fall in." And she giggled.

The boy untangled himself, probably a talent to match those long legs of his. There was no shame wrapping his fawn colored face, his face was the essence of care free youth. A quiet chuckle would quietly roll from her throat at his sentence. "I see, you're very good at getting back up, quite necessary I say in this life," she would comment, expecting half of it to go over his head. The same time Lullaby didn't believe in talking down to young ones. Words no matter what they collected were never a waste.

What a happy little fella he was, she wished she had half his energy, and enthusiasm. "Well yeah, what's a fellow flyer for?" She said, with a bright smile of her own. She saw his eyes upon her wings, studying them. It surprised her to hear he did not know what they were for. She nodded, pleasantly adding a "Uh huh," in certainty. Slowly she lifted her wings, before closing them to her sides again. He must be a lot younger than she had gauged. She began to question where his mother was, surely near by? Cobalt eyes would look about uncertainly. Before she could ask a sound caught to her side, and she jerked her head to see a white filly. She was tangled, and tugged too quick, becoming a white lump on the ground. Blue and brown eyes were easy tell it was not exactly what she had wanted. With grace she collected a more happy smile, and came over to greet them with a merry giggle."Welcome to the party," she said warmly. Where was this ones mother?

The mare merely laughed, a pleasant sound that had Cera's smile growing ever wider. She didn't laugh at him or mock him for falling, and actually complimented him on his ability of untangling himself. Glowing with simple pride, Cera chirped happily. "Thank you!" Though he still looked rather lost, not understanding what she meant about it being necessary in life. Would he still be tripping when he was an adult? The idea didn't seem very appealing to him at all, and he hoped that wasn't what she meant. Adults confused him.

How kind she was, he found himself thinking again as she cemented her offer to help him. "Yay!" Still not quite grasping what she meant by fellow flyer until she continued speaking, answering his question concerning her wings. And the rather frightening landing she had done in front of him. They could fly? He watched her move her wings in awe, slowly moving his own the same way and glancing to the side to stare at them with a concentrated face. It seemed she wanted to say something, but a crash from the bushes directed their attention to the white filly on the ground.

Cera bounced happily once she was up, quickly excusing her apologies. "You fall too? I do lots! I Cera, who're you?" Amazed and beyond happy to find another pegasus, and one his age! So badly he wished to be friends with the little white filly, and he had only been in her presence for a few small moments! She spoke better than him, but he'd been almost completely alone and his language was still rather spotty, running of the little he heard as members of the Throat passed him by.

The mare greeted Azeen, welcoming her to the party. Azeen didn't quite understand how this qualified as a party, but she laughed to mirror the mare's own laugh. It was nice to see another Pegasus. In fact, Azeen hadn't seen anything but Pegasi since she had gotten to this strange, new land.

Then she turned to the colt. She stared for a moment at his strange grammar. Perhaps she should not judge. As with most things, she was uncertain how she had gained such good language at her age, especially without an adult to teach her. Perhaps she had just listened, instead of being taught.

"Well, I guess I fall a lot. I mostly trip, though..."

For a moment she sat there, frowning a bit. She was thinking, wondering whether falling and tripping were the same, or if they were different. Perhaps tripping was the cause, and falling the effect? Yeah, that sounded right.

"I'm Azeen! Pleased to meet you, Cera!" She chirped chipperly. And... Who are you?"

Azeen turned to the mare, staring wonderingly with her odd-colored eyes. She wasn't certain if the mare had given her name before, and therefore she didn't know whether or not she was being rude. Regardless, she wondered. She had been so preoccupied with trying to get out of that bush once Cera had scared away the butterfly, that she probably didn't hear any earlier introductions.

"No problem," she answered, seeing he wasn't entirely sure about the rest of the statement. "One day you'll know," she added. The mare didn't stop to elaborate, not wanting to confuse the boy more. It was one of those things to live and learn. What she thought were the greatest of teachers.

The flying had his attention, and she pondered how to even start. Any she had taught had least known what they were capable of, but he mirrored her movements and that would probably be the first lesson. Strengthening his wings, and helping him find balance. She began to wonder if there was a softer place to begin, or even a marked spot where little flyers started. No one was around, and she kept her white mask still despite the frown that wanted to form. While company of the foals was nice, she still wished someone else was around. Maybe, they could answer her questions.

Attention to the white filly, the boy did not hold back greeting the girl. Luckily she was not scared by her surrounded company, but remained friendly and open. Smiling more assuredly, the white mare looked to her. "Nice to meet you Azeen, I'm Lullaby," she would answer, not feeling her impolite at all. A swish of her silver tail strands, she lifted her head, letting her eyes take in the horizons. What to do. "We were just talking about flying, you want to join us? Or am I going to have two mothers looking for you two?"

Lullaby didn't explain what she meant, which created even more confusion within the patched colt, but if she meant no harm or viciousness in her words then he didn't mind. Easily he let it slip away, intrigued by her talk of flying. At his questioning she seemed unsure how to explain, but before she did their attention was turned once again to the little white filly that had appeared. She stared at him for awhile, and he self consciously lowered his ears and wings. Was something wrong with him? Yet when she spoke she remained friendly, and Cera tried to shake it off. She introduced herself as Azeen, and Cera smiled. "Hi Azeen!" Stumbling shyly over her name, a little troubled by it.

Cera politely let Lullaby speak to Azeen, but couldn't help but have his attention pulled into the conversation at the mentioning of mothers. When he had met Midas he had spoken of parents. Were mothers part of that? "Mothers? Are they part of parents? I no have any. Do you?" Turning curiously to Azeen, as she was closest to him in age. Where all young equines and Pegasi left without parents? Was it just him? Or did Azeen share this experience?

*cheers for you* Go faithfulness! Lol. :)

"Lullaby..." Azeen repeated, so as to remember it better. She wondered briefly at something, and then they were talking again, and she forgot to think.

First it was Lullaby, and Cera chorused right in. There was the mention of parents again, and Azeen couldn't stifle her confusion. Were parents really that important? She felt a little indignant, although she had to admit that she did want larger company now and again...

"Yes, I think mothers are the... female? portion of parents. Sohalia was explaining this to me... The mother is the female, who usually births the baby, and the father is the male. I'm not sure what the male has to do with it all, though..."

Really, she was just quoting Sohalia as she looked up at the sky with her mismatched eyes, trying to think. She didn't know what 'birthing' was. And what was the male there for, anyways? Sohalia did just fine taking care of Azeen on her own, although they weren't related.

"And no, I don't have any parents. Not real ones, anyway."

Truth be told, she had faint memories of parents. But they were inconsequential, and so it was best to say they didn't exist. Sohalia took it upon herself to fill in the gap, and although Azeen didn't really understand the complexities of how Sohalia felt about the whole thing, she accepted the presence. Between the male, Leander, and Sohalia, it seemed Azeen had no choice but to choose one of them.

"Oh, wait, this is the Dragon's Throat, right?"

Her eyes popped out wide, and she looked about her. This place wasn't at all how she had originally imagined it. Leander had been right- the herd didn't actually live inside the throat of a gigantic, fire-breathing beast! Although she was beginning to like her first frightening theory better, she still liked this place. It had strange colors, but it was really quite beautiful once you added in the oasis.

I am sorry I'm terribly slow. You can feel free to skip me if need be.

Both children were bright, eager to learn, and quick to listen. Except, they both seem puzzled by her statement of mothers. Lullaby having for part of her life a loving mother, and fairly decent father was shocked that not one foal, but two had no idea about parents. Where had they come from? Had they been born, and deserted? What a horrible, thing to behold, that even if their mother's did not leave them by choice, they were still orphans. Someone should be looking after them. No longer was her facade at eased, but creased here and there with worry lines, she listened to little Azeen talk of what she had heard of mothers, feeling unknown to the part of father. A close of her eyes, she tried to hold her thoughts still, and took a step closer, looking from one child to the other. "Yes, parents can be where you came from, and how you got here. But more so they could be someone or two someones who take care of you, and love you," she explained hoping that may help. Maybe, they had a guardian.

She would be have her answer, that Azeen least did not. "Really? Neither of you have someone who looks after you?" She asked, keeping a sweet lull to her tone, not wanting the sadness, worry to creep out of her.

A swish of her tail to help the idea, she once more raised her head, looking to the rocky outcrops. What kind of place was this? The filly asked a question, and Lullaby turned to face her. "Yes, this is the Dragon's Throat. Did someone tell you about it?"

The concept of mothers hadn't been explained to Cera yet and he listened carefully to the white filly. Though she understood mothers, Cera was inclined towards fathers considering the role Midas played in his life. He loved his daddy. "Strange...parents no stay long." Cera wasn't bothered by the fact his mother had deserted him. After all he could hardly remember her, and didn't know that it was an unusual and almost cruel thing to do. Lullaby seemed quite distraught that they spoke so casually of not having parents and Cera too frowned. Not wanting the pretty mare to be sad at all.

Azeen was quick to say she had no parents. Cera only hesitated a little before answering in kind both to her and Lullaby's concerned question. "Midas my daddy. He found me. Not real daddy but that okay. He gone a lot though...works for the herd." Midas had a job to do and Cera understood that. But without supervision he wandered quite a lot. Yet he never missed the time Midas would return, always waiting under their tree for him. The idea of a mother however was completely foreign to him. Peacefully retreating into his thoughts as Lullaby and Azeen conversed. Midas tried his hardest to raise Cera well, and he loved him more than words could express. Though he got awful lonely when he had to leave, and found himself rather scared of being abandoned once again. Was that the hole a mother was supposed to fill? Face scrunched slightly, a tad confused and unhappy.

"Someone who looks after? Oh, I have that. Sohalia looks after me, but I don't think she counts as a parent. She didn't... er... I mean, she wasn't there at the beginning of my memories."

Azeen wrinkled her nose as she tried to explain exactly what she meant. She wasn't quite sure what made a mother and father special, except they were supposed to be there from the start. Azeen had no such memories, so she did not believe she had parents. Although Azeen's beliefs on parents were skewed, she did at least consider Sohalia her protector and caretaker. In fact, she had grown quite fond of Sohalia, despite how much Azeen liked to run off.

Cera's voice drew Azeen's attention, and her mismatched eyes watched him with interest. So Cera had a father? She was uncertain where the differences lay, although she was certainly interested.

"So... your daddy takes care of you?" She asked, trying to understand better the concept of fathers, compared to mothers.

Then Lullaby responded to her question, and Azeen drank in the Pegasus' words eagerly. So this was the Dragon's Throat! At least Leander had been correct, and this was not, indeed, inside a dragon's throat. She had worried, somewhat, that he was lying to her when he had said it, in order to calm her imagination.

"Oh, so this is it! Yeah, Leander told me about it. I think he's a... a warrior here? He invited Sohalia and I here, since... what did he call it? Since Frostfall is here!"

Being entirely unaware of a group animal's tendencies to keep out strangers, Azeen was not fully aware of the political situation that she might induce elsewhere. She was open, happy, and extremely naive, but it tended to work in her favor. As luck would have it, she has met very nice Pegasi here, and not a one wasn't influenced by her open and innocent behavior. This was yet another thing that went right over her head. Not that that was difficult, considering her height.

Nefertari

walk walk walk
"talk talk talk"

Nefertari was playing around as usual when she spotted a mare, a colt, and a filly. She pranced over gracefully, long little legs carrying her with elegance. "Hello!" Her soft tones carried easily to the three as she made her way to them. "I'm Nefertari." She looked curiously at Azeen. "You spoke of my father, Leander. Do you know him well?" Amenhotep trotted after his sister quickly, wary of the others. He was bigger, being a year older than Nefertari, and he was afraid for her constantly. He nudged her flank, a warning to be careful, to be cautious, and she acknowledged the touch with a rustle of her wings. Her large blue eyes shone with kindness and gentleness. She was innocent still, a little yearling unknowing of many cruelties of the world.

Sighing, she nodded her head sadly. She did not understand why anyone would leave a child to fend for themselves. Her attention returned to the white filly when she spoke up again. "She's like a mom then," Lullaby offered, hoping now they might understand what she was trying to say. Parents did not necessarily have to be the ones who brought you into this world.

With a small smile it grewe at mention of Midas. The one soul she knew here."Midas? I know him, see you do have a parent." Lullaby smiled more assured, the gloom from her face gone. Someone was taking care of Cera, especially someone she knew. It was understandable the painted stallion was busy with his herd tasks, it seemed he was a loya solider. It mlust leave the boy lonely, but he did stay in the Throat at least.

A thoughtful look she had to divert her attention, Leander did not ring any bells. Lullaby hadn't made the greatest effort to seek others out. "I have not met him. Maybe we could call for him?" She wasn't sure if he was around, or what he looked like. Of all things two more young ones came, looking a bit older, one speaking of this Leander to be her father. Lullaby blinked, hiding her bewildered mind with the action. She was not a baby magnet!

"How do you do?" She asked the pair politely, adding "We were thinking about calling Leander, would you care to?" If Azeen was thinking about staying perhaps Leander would like to welcome them. He could possibly accept them.

Azeen, too, seemed to be struggling with how to explain her relationship with Sohalia. Just like Midas, Sohalia was not her real mother and clearly wasn't the one to abandon her. Cera nodded to her words, finding they fit his explanation of Midas perfectly. It was a comfort to know that the other foal was like him in this way; confused, the both of them, by the workings of parents. If it weren't for Midas, Cera would be helpless and most likely grow up a sociopath of sorts. He loved the painted warrior and was grateful to be taken under his wing.

Azeen turned her separately colored orbs to rest on him, both of them trying to puzzle their way through this. Nodding at her words, a more serious and confused face replacing the normal cheer and smiles. "Mhm. Sorta. When he goes I take care myself." A little saddened by this. Cera didn't like Midas leaving, and although yes he knows too much at his age in order to take care of himself, it was nice to let someone else do it for him.

Lullaby was clearly in acquaintance of Midas, and Cera smiled at her. "You know daddy?" Excited by the prospect of possibly meeting Lullaby again in the Throat. Then again he rarely left Midas' side when he wasn't working, so it would have to be another time. Maybe all three of them? Cera liked her kind personality and how she explained things well like his father.

He was growing used to sinking back and waiting, watching as the girls talked. Because of this he spotted the newcomers quickly. Disheartened when the other mare was only interested in the unknown Leander. Watching instead the stallion beside her, seeing his worried gaze. Why was he worried? Trotting a little closer, wings shifting naturally. Peering up at him curiously. "Hello!" Smiling brightly at him, letting the made talk with Lullaby and Azeen since she didn't seem interested in his presence. Cera hadn't met another colt before, only the occasional filly, and though the newcomer was a yearling Cera was ecstatic to meet someone else that wasn't an adult.
