After the bizarre and confusing events that happened in the region that she knew now to be called Blood Falls, Ophyreia had been led back to her new home. The World's Edge was a beautiful, mystical land. The misted forests provided just the right amount of privacy, while the views of the vast blue seas contributed to a sense of wonder and empowerment. It had only been one season since the grulla had so suddenly lost her herd and appeared in the threshold of Helovia, but she could already feel the optimism rushing through her chest. This would be a good adventure.

At the present moment, however, her nerves were quite frayed from the confusion that had ensued at Blood Falls. After a brief introduction to her new home and herd, the rustic woman had chosen to take her leave, preferring to explore more of this new and intriguing realm for a while of meeting her two new leaders. Ophelia had mentioned Torleik, while whispers in the Edge had given her Mauja's name. Maybe it was apprehension holding her back. After all, she had been a proud Chieftess up to the moment that she had been ripped so abruptly from her herd... and now, she was expected to defer to not one, but two leaders. She would do so graciously, of course, but even the burly woman could admit it was a little disconcerting.

Ophyreia's musings stopped short as she came to the edge of a small cliff overlooking a large basin, her breath catching in her throat. While the Edge was calm and wondrous, this region could only be described as breathtaking. Multiple waterfalls not even one mile away created prismatic mists that rose from the basin below, shrouding the luscious greens of the trees surrounding them. Basking in the allure of this new land, the olive-toned mare trotted forward, a newfound spring in each step. Now alert, she recognized a new and unfamiliar scent of many different bodies, all different and yet the same - the trademark of a herd. This couldn't be the Dragon's Throat that young Ilios had mentioned to her, could it? It seemed much too exotic.

Stopping just short of the start of the trees, making sure she kept those magnificent cascades in her view, Ophyreia let out a low, tentative whinny to announce her presence. This was somebody's turf, and she would abhor starting off as a trespasser.

Hopefully this herd was cordial with strangers.

Spring is reluctant to overtake the greenery that makes the Falls so notable. It thaws with a slow surety, but slow nonetheless. The earth is a giving, gentle thing, but it awakens from its slumber with all the might and laziness of a recalcitrant beast. The sun shines on regardless, stubborn in its rays that melt away layers of snow and ice. It is an amazing thing, for Kaj is on his rounds when one of their frozen waterfalls rails against the solid ice and slams through its restraints. The air fills with the roaring of its success, huge ice floes drifting down the current, breaking into smaller and smaller pieces only to careen off the edge and into the air in opaque, pale colors. The silence that had overtaken the Falls, stifling at the beginning of winter when their waterfalls had been so horrifically stifled, is finally broken. That Kaj is there to see it is exhilarating, and it sends shivers down his spine that make him run wildly to the edges of the land. Throw himself from its balcony of snow and tender grasses and let the rush of freezing spray against his muscled chest awaken him from his own mental hibernation.

The winds rush to greet his outstretched wings, and he rises higher and higher above the scraggly tree tops that shine beneath the sun. They will bloom in time. Everything does. It helps distract him from the chaos of the Blood Falls, the Gods and their machinations that eluded his grasp time and again. He was but a simple, mortal man. He was not meant for their games, and so he was eternally reluctant to play them. Unless he, his family, or Helovia as a whole was put in danger, well...Kaj simply did not have the aspirations to involve himself in such immortal affairs. He was not entirely adventurous, and certainly not to the level where he'd willingly put his nose in the business of the Gods.

He had a job, a singular job that he'd been entrusted to. Rule the Falls. Take care of the land and his family. Everything else? Unless he was called upon to do their bidding, Kaj would stick to his paces. One of which included daily patrols.

Bolstered by having witnessed such an incredible act of nature, and still awake from the cold winds that caressed his damp hide, he set to his rounds early.

The view of his land from overhead, embraced by brisk spring winds, was incredible. His stress melted away, if only for a moment. The world was rough and their ties tenuous, but they struggled against the curse of the land as much as they could. A small but valiant family. Kaj suspected sometimes that they'd be doomed regardless come the future, but he'd do all he could to protect them while he could. So long as he lived as their Czar, he'd fight for them and their ideals.

Whatever haven his mind had found was shattered as he drifted along the borders, eyes catching on an irregularity against the undergrowth. Something he was used to, an equine figure along their markers. However, an unknown one as well. Curiosity and duty mingled in his breast as massive wings folded and twisted to lower him gracefully down through the boughs before her. Landing on the tough ground with a soft thud of noise and weight, he strode forth to meet her. She was a simplistically beautiful sort, like mercury and smoke in contrast to his own sunlight and earthen tones.

"Welcome to the land of the Hidden Falls," he spoke softly, his deep voice warm as it swelled to fill the space between them. Barred wings folded neatly against his sides, chest and shoulders still glistening with water droplets and eyes bright with interest. "My name is Kaj, Czar of these lands. What can I do for you?" Did she have a purpose, a desire? A goal? Or was she merely another wanderer? Perhaps one of the few who'd come through the odd portal during the Time God's battle?
