Ashamin waited because he was always waiting. He had nothing on his mind except, well, everything, and he wished very much to cease talking with all others about the matter. But he knew better than most that it was no good to deal with things on one's own, and he knew too that this was his job, now. Somehow and antisocial misanthropic sort had become the one that was supposed to talk to and meet with the entire herd for some reason or another.

He loved his role, he really did. But it was beginning to take a toll.

Tonight, at least, he knew the gathering would be intimate. Only the Basin's leads and Emissary would be present--if they were lucky, maybe a God would be too. He still had filed away his Lords' and lady's requests from the previous season. Should the God of the spark appear, he knew what he would need to ask.

But now that he had seen the God in all his glory, he felt even more insecure. He had watched the God greet so many others and pass over his kneeling haruspex. Though Ashamin was not hungry for the spotlight by any means, he had begun to fear he was forgotten.

Then again, could you really been forgotten if you had never been known? Perhaps the lightning at the meeting had been a divine accident, a mass misinterpretation. Perhaps he should never have gone.

But it was too late now, and as he stood in the chilled and unlit cave, Lochan standing quietly at his side, he could do nothing but wait for his company.

Everything was waiting.

THRANDUIL

Good gods the hell was just lovely. It had been a while since the battle for the new world was fought, but not long enough to ease pain and wounds. Tight and taunt pink scars still splashed painfully along his neck and right foreleg. It was healing, slowly, with much of his own effort to that fact. But it was still tender. For once the golden found his bonded a comfort, not that he would reveal it to him. The black deer had been horrified to see the golden return home in such a state. His concern was a nuisance. The golden, still a bit dazed had only wanted peace. Yet over the days the deer had shown he was no longer a high footed fawn.
Even now the deer reached over and pulled the golden shimmering cloak gently over his bonded’s shoulder, trying to ignore the wince as it ran over a few sores. For once though the gold was very patient, surprising Haldir. Never did he snip or growl though the strain was clearly there. The deer latched the cloak best he could and the golden sighed with relief it was done. The golden cloth masked the worse of the wounds, and if he look care there would be little questioning or pitied faces. That was the last thing he wanted here. Tonight they were communing before the mirror again. A near wasted effort the last time, but this, with the new world dawning was more promising.
Keeping to the shadows of the falling evening as much as possible the golden makes his way to the Haruspex’s cave. He still bore a slight limp, which he tried his best to hide, but considering it also took his best not to wince at the cloth hiding the worst of his wounds, that did very little. Haldir at first was concerned, but as soon as he realized where they were headed his gait picked up a bit. He hadn’t seen his friend in a while, and was most excited to play after all the long worrisome days lately.
The Laurelin slips in best he can, with as much of his usual swagger as he can remember to play forward. He manages well, but for the lower head set and the still slightly noticeable limp. Haldir though quickly forms a distraction. He rushes in with a short call of his adult kind, and trots right up to the little mirror of himself. In elvish the phrase slips through, ”Behave.” The golden did not need the stag kicking up his heels like a fawn in this company. The deer though listened little.
So the golden comes to a halt in the same place as before, with a worn face. He angles himself best he could to hide his right side from the cool light of the cave and others. He wanted no questions, just to get this over with and move back to his own cave to rest.

SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP
GO BACK TO SLEEP
SLEEP SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP SLEEP

He stood obediently by the Haruspex. Whatever odd relationship they had, or lack there of; whatever Öde felt for the stallion at any given moment (admiration, jealousy, anger, devotion...). None of it mattered in this moment, because in this moment rank and respect were far more important than any of Öde's trivial mortal notions. So he loomed, stoic and stalwart in the vicinity of the blessed mirror. He felt that familiar anxiety as he always did when dealing with gods and their like. It was an excited energy that hummed through him, often upsetting his sleep the night prior and slacking his appetite as the desire for the moment overwhelmed all other basic needs.

Even now Öde had a strong urge to urinate, but kept his pink tickler tucked up tight, too afraid he might miss an amazing moment if he pissed any second of it away, literally. Still, there was a wiggle of doubt, like a little worm burrowing through his mind; apple flesh and grey matter. What if the god didn't show again. What if he really did dislike Ashamin (despite other signs - unfortunately Öde was not aware of Ashamin's neglect in the Falls). A plus for Öde perhaps, though the more he witnessed the work Ashamin did for his role and the herd, the more the young stud respected the decision and the man behind the title. Still, selfish and greedy, he thirsted for it himself.

Mostly he thirsted for the god. He had seen him at the Falls, though he hadn't been nearly as captivating to the black stag as the bear god. Would Time be too preoccupied with these wars in other lands, or was his battle over, and his rest started (in which case was he equally unlikely to show?). Trying to reason out the god's likelihood of arriving was complex, and revealed to Öde just how very mortal and insignificantly ignorant he was.

best to wait, he thought, though his tongue itched to speak with these other religious sorts about what the fuck had happened in the Falls. Not only had two gods been present, but one had been killed (himself along with it... beautiful dual climax). Didn't anyone want to talk about that crazy shit?

THRANDUIL

He was waiting for the other slackers to get here, and get this over with this. And in reality he wasn’t expecting much. The god hadn’t appeared last time, and judging by the last time the golden saw him, torn, battered, and wounded, it was unlikely he would join them again. But then, he wouldn’t miss out on it he did. So here he was, pained by his wound and all.

Of course something interesting did happen, but not in the mirror. A dark shadow moves by Ashamin, and earth eyes glance into the shadow piercing into the darkness to see a familiar face. That face though was still gazed upon with great concern. They were private thoughts though, as the gold looked over this creature. It was Ode, he had seen him before, and even spoke to him. Why was it so shocking? Because he was supposed to be dead. Harks lean back, and then back forward. On the battlefield the stallion had been dead. Right? He wanted to shake his head and forget he was looking, but he was trapped in his discomfort.

Then it clicked. Perhaps he hadn’t been dead? Only playing? Or was he immortal? The last seemed so unlikely, but magic in these parts was so strange. Regardless, he did let one line slip out. “Ode, you’re looking much better.” Well, not exactly, the shadows couldn’t hide all of his rough shape. But regardless, the golden finally snorts in amusement of his new knowledge and releases the creature from his gaze to look back at the mirror, waiting.

She had sworn not to be late a second time. Not go, Alice stated primly, and Hotaru spared a moment to make an unhappy face at her. Okay, so she hadn't been able to make it at all last time due to her patrols going overtime, but according to the others it wasn't like she'd missed much either. Except...well, last time the Mirror had told Ashamin to look to the East. The new lands, the God battle...it had been right after all, she thought to herself grimly. Vague though it may have been, it was the purpose of the Haruspex to try and discern the meaning of the messages. Hotaru did not envy Ashamin the job, the weight it undoubtedly left upon his shoulders.

She was nervous to see him again, after her completely embarrassing meltdown in his cavern not long ago. Ashamin was a quiet, gentle soul, and she did not believe him the sort to hold it against her or even reveal such private business to anyone else. But Hotaru was at heart a very secretive being, and she worried nonetheless. Her business was hers and hers alone, and though the weight grew too great sometimes - as seen by her breakdown - she'd never willingly share her internal thoughts or feelings.

Which is why as she entered the cave at the designated time, her heart caught in her throat a little to see Thranduil aside Ashamin and their Emissary whom Hotaru had yet to formally meet. Of course he'd be there, she scolded herself. He was a fucking Lord. And she was a Lady, and she needed to keep her title safe and unquestioned. Striding elegantly into the cavern, she sent a graceful smile towards Ashamin, eyes twinkling with perhaps a little more warmth than normal. She considered him friend, after all, which was a rare but not often coveted position when regarding Hotaru.

Eyes drifted over their Emissary - gods she really needed to learn his name - and then over to settle on Thranduil once more. She forced herself to hold her gaze as long as she had the others, but her mind was a tangled web of confusion. He was so regal standing there, but she could still see him destroying his cavern and his coveted artifacts, furious and raging against the earth only to turn his spitting words against her. Confusing her, arousing her, turning her into a knot of emotions she had no real experience with. That he had that kind of power over her was unthinkable, and she had cast it away with disgust. He knew that she did not need him. But what did it mean if she wanted him instead? Alice whined softly beside her, clearly feeling the influence of her conflicted emotions, staring with cocked head at Thranduil as if unsure why he was important enough to have caused such a stir in her mistress' breast. Hotaru ignored her, embarrassed by that train of thought of her companion.

She hated that she couldn't explain how she was feeling regarding him, and so instead she dipped her head in acknowledgment and let her eyes fall to the Mirror, praying for some sort of guidance to appear this time.

The winter Lord refused to be tied to any mirror, any piece reflecting hints, mysteries, and enigmas, to Gods who smirked and laughed and taunted, but there he was again, entombed and endeavored to watch the sparks fall and the divination hark about their next plays and plans. To the East had been the last outcry, shattering some hopes and some indulgences, giggling at them like fools and puppets, marionettes pulled and glided upon strings. Which direction lain the promised land this time, at this hour, at this intersection? He maneuvered his way towards the back of the crowd, choosing not to stuff himself so rigidly, so tightly, so confined into the space, taking only minute moments to stare and anoint a nod towards the gathered. He didn’t know what to say towards any of them: Thranduil, with whom he hadn’t conversed with in such a time that their standing was beyond thought, Hotaru, whom he hadn’t spoken to since their meeting amongst the Dragon’s sands, Ode, who remained more than a conundrum, and the Haruspex, who’d attempted to touch him and fall apart in the arms of death. While Ignatius’s notions churned over his mind, while the advice gleamed and bit and tore through his skull, he didn’t know how to manage or acquire the ability to express it, couldn’t fathom what they meant to him, how to entrust his damned, nefarious arts to them, except through action, except through vigilance. He stranded himself along the opening and indulged in looking towards the glass for answers (a rare circumstance, because the God usually only gave him strife and ridicule), a way to reach beyond the threshold, beyond the tethers, of the power they’d already acquired and displayed for all the world to see, to touch, to fathom. Would the realm realize his devotion to them, then? Or would they always perceive him as the beast, the Reaper, the intangible force beyond reckoning, beyond speaking to, leaving him to his desolation, to his forsaken vows, to the dreaded arts of devastation?

The night remained quiet. Ashamin stood, left fore a striking red and dark eyes the same pit as always. He did not reach out to touch any who came inside the cave. He did not expect any to reciprocate the gesture.

Perhaps Hotaru would have. Perhaps she would have touched her cheek to his and assured him that the pain from the battle he'd fought would go away. Perhaps she would offer him a gentleness this fleet of stallions would not. And he thought this only because of that night they had met in his cave and she had told him secrets to never share.

Thranduil hadn't ever done that. And Ashamin had considered the golden to be one of his first friends here. Ode was a mystery wrapped in an enigma, either showing up silent or showing up silent and looking half dead. Apparently he was in good health, however, tonight.

And then there was Deimos. The reaper. The lord, the one who despite all attempts at stressing equal rule seemed o stand above and apart from the others.

The one who had almost killed him.

Ashamin's expression remained hanging and dull. He nodded to each of the four, but said nothing else. All he betrayed upon Deimos' arrival was a shiver, one that his companion echoed. Lochan was seeking Haldir's eyes, but knowing better than to play. The cerndyr was learning quickly what the duties of a Haruspex were, and was falling quickly in line.

It was Lochan that led them all towards the back of the cave, then, with Ashamin close behind.

There, the mirror awaited. And so too, perhaps, did the counsel they all so desperately sought.

The face of a very angry Time God appeared in the mirror, blue eyes glaring out at the faces surrounding him. He snorted, fogging up the mirror while shaking his head. "Why are you still up here hiding in the mountains like fools?" he growled. "We are fighting GODS for fuck's sake!"

Static hummed in the air as he fumed. "I will give you one damn piece of advice. Run south now and pray you'll make it in time." He mused on smiting them all.

With that, he disappeared, leaving the mirror empty.

SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP
GO BACK TO SLEEP
SLEEP SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP GO BACK TO SLEEP SLEEP

Everyone entered in silence, and the heaviness of it all pressed down upon Öde who felt afraid to breathe too loudly less he shatter this prominent moment. Only one dared break the glass coffins each had stepped into, and his words were so meaningless as they drifted through the air Öde couldn't help but release a hiss of annoyance as his ears twitched to the sound and his gaze slithered to the speaker. It came as no surprise that it was the Laurelin that had spoken, but it still bothered him. What was the point of saying something like that? Was there more meaning to it? All that Öde offered in response was a heavy look, though despite himself a smile hitched the corner of his mouth.

Before he could ponder over it any further the mirror finally started to respond. With bated breathe Öde watched, unnoticeabley leaning in closer, his anticipation strung out. What came was the God, at last, or his reflection anyway which was still better than sparks like last time - or maybe anyway. The features were furious, and the words harsh as they barked through the glass. Then, he was gone, his advice and his discipline like the after echo fo a gunshot beside your ear.

Öde stumbled back, shaking his head. "Gods," he remarked quietly, red eyes flicking up to stare at the gathered, lingering on his uncle. "There will be more than, more than just the bear."

We have to hurry he thought gleefully.
