Essetia & Romul
quote quote quote can go here here here; watch the length; stay awesome
Golden light slanted across the meadow creating waves of luminescent figures that shifted with the quivering of the grasses. The Sleuth was watchful as she again made her way toward the heart of the grassland, only this time the icy grip of winter was nowhere to be found. For a time Essetia had been absent the land, preferring to nurture her soul in the depths of her desert oasis over wandering Helovia as she had once been so apt to do. However, the seasons had brought her only closer to her responsibilities… she was aging. Foolish pastimes had been abandoned and turned upon their heads and the daughter of the moon had grown silent during the change. Yet, she had returned to her home outside the desert in hopes of regaining whatever resilience she’d possessed. With Romul at her side, the pair pressed onward into the budding field of wildflowers with nothing more than hope to ride their heels and ideas of death too far gone to be remembered.

A softness had returned to her and the battle-sharpened tongue she’d been known for had all but retired. Alas, the fire was still bright in her pale, unassuming eyes, but alongside it bloomed maturity and wisdom. No longer was the Sleuth plagued by her childlike demeanor and the faint traces of adolescence. She had shed what remained of her youth and was reborn. Her shoulders were no longer so pointed, but sloped. Her hips had grown full and her neck had thickened from winter’s hibernation, but the weight looked appealing on the mare despite her newly adopted bear-like gait. Like her father, Essetia stood tall and somewhat limber alongside smaller breeds, but there was something graceful in the way she carried herself anew. There was a calmness about her that had not been so apparent before and it was a calmness that affected not only the Sleuth, but her bonded as well.

The wolf, though still wild by nature, had grown as well and his slender physique had been changed by the times. Romul had come to embrace their new desert home (with some complaint) and had taken to hunting hares and the occasional lizard when food was scarce. Though he was born for the cold and the ice, his golden stare was unrivaled against the sandy backdrop of the dunes he’d come to master over the past few months. “Have you missed this?” Essetia questioned after the two had come to pause amongst the tall buds and vibrant, green grasses. Romul offered her a small, wolfish smile, but ignored the underlying insult his companion had stitched between her words. Of course he had missed the lands outside the Throat… but the wolf had better reasons to keep Essetia away from the mess and the turmoil roiling throughout Helovia.

He considered his protective nature a gift to the Sleuth and would not soon admit otherwise.

Like the ghostly creature he was, Romul moved forward without reply and lowered his snout to the spongy earth. For too long they had remained a permanent fixture in the Throat and now that they had ventured from the warm sands of the South, it was time to stretch their legs and reacquaint themselves with the place they called home.

They should get a bit better in time. I'm quite rusty!
