Every time I almost die, I feel so alive. Why would I ever want to be more careful?
stand still. But that seemed like a far off memory, or perhaps a dream. There was much she was unsure of, especially with the fever from this horrid black virus running through her veins. She let out a hoarse cough, the black hidden in the shadows as it splattered onto the floor.

The starry girl believed that shying from the sun and going somewhere cooler may help calm the fever. So she edged deeper and deeper into the caverns, looking for nothing, but enjoying the dampness. It seemed as though there were many halls and rooms nestled deep below the surface of the earth. Glowing flora washed the walls with eerie blues. It was like nothing the girl had ever seen. When she was feeling better, this may be a good place to visit and enjoy.

Every few paces she would need to rest, coughing up black and catching her breath. Like a bad rendition of Hansel and Gretel, she marked her trail with the black ooze that had been leaking from her eyes and nose. Soon she found herself deep in the caves, much deeper than she should have wandered. But something called to her, something glowing and pure and purposeful. Soon a cave appeared to her left, which left her breathless.

Steep walls of crystal rose from the ground. Soft glowing colors glowed and ebbed, bringing life to this forgotten place. Silver eyes opened wide as she took in the place, looking around like an awe-struck child. For a moment, all of the symptoms of her virus subsided as she enjoyed the beauty that bloomed around her. Sparkling white blossoms grew from the walls, and seemed to emit light all of their own. All the colors and light reflected off of the mirror that covered the ground. For a moment she believed she had died, and this may have been the other side.

A harsh coughing fit broke her from her dilusion, and she remembered she was still alive, and suffering. She sneezed, splattering black onto the reflective floor. She stepped backwards, and a long looped vine studded with the glowing flowers brushed against her. It surprised her, sending a rush of adrenaline to course through her weakened body. She bucked, kicking out with all the strength she could muster. Her coiled muscles released plenty of force. Perhaps the tiny warrior still had it in her, despite this sickness. Her hooves made hard impact on a hanging crystal stalactite. A sickening crack echoed through the cave. The blue girl, more startled now than ever, lunged forward, tripping over unsteady hooves. She ploughed forward, racing from the cave to the safety of a pseudo hallway. She slid to a rough halt, coughing and sneezing and trembling. Her ears lay flat to her skull, and white crescents stood stark around her sterling eyes. She gasped for air, trying to fill drowning lungs with freshness. It took several minutes, but finally the blue girl composed herself. On shaking legs, she slowly wobbled back to the glowing crystal cave.

Walking in, she looked around at the damage she had caused. The stalactite had fallen, shattering into millions of sharp and jagged pieces. They seemed to catch the light, and a soft glow still pulsed within the larger fragments. She slowly approached, looking at the pieces. Who knew something so beautiful could be so dangerous? Stepping closer, she saw three pieces that caught her eye. She pulled one close with her hoof, then leaned all of her weight onto the crystal. It was sturdy, and held her weight nicely, other than a small piece that sheared off, leaving a dangerously sharp edge. Tipping her head to the side, inquisitive, she pulled the other two pieces close, and chipped at them with her hooves. She was meticulous in her work, and patiently toiled until she had three perfect blades before her. Each crystal blade had two sharp edges, and maintained milky cloudy veins that prevented the crystal from looking like glass. The blades were imperfect, sure, and had no hilts, but they could be worked with. She knew just the unicorn who could assist her.

Reaching up, she plucked the vine that had caused her to create these weapons. Some glittering flowers still clung to the vine, and though she didn’t expect them to thrive in the land above, she was sure they would dry beautifully. She wrapped the three blades in the vine to protect them for travel, and looped the remaining vine around her neck. With that, she was off, working her way out of the caves, following the trail of putrid sickness she had left coming in. Soon she would return to the Basin, and find help with one a bit more creative than she.
